great and all peoples on earth will be

blessed through you so Abram went as the

Lord had told him and he took his nephew

lot with him and set out for the land of

Canaan

Lotte increased greatly and their

abundance was so great that the land

could not support both of them and there

were quarrels between the herdsmen of

Abram and the herdsmen of Lotte what God

has given us great abundance the land

can no longer support both of us in one

place and I've heard that there are

quarrels between our herdsmen my men

the plains of Jordan are beautiful and

well watered like the garden of the room

pitched his tents near Sodom now the men

of Sodom were wicked and were sinning

greatly against the Lord so Abram moved

his tents and went to live near the

great trees of Mamre at Hebron where he

built an altar to the Lord

the story of Abraham's reward hits close

to home for me it contrasts the

emptiness of man's greed with the

richness of living by God's wisdom like

lot many times in my life I've made poor

choices simply because I was controlled

by greed and the consequences of those

choices were never good can you count

all the ways that Abram made a good

decision all the times when he chose to

be generous beginning with his

willingness to take his nephew with him

loving others more than ourselves is

always a better choice

Abram allowed lot to choose the best

land it was a choice that could have had

terrible economic consequences because

Abraham's primary assets were his

livestock but he put lot first Abram

took lot into his own care he gave him

his choice of land he rescued him when

he was taken prisoner and he loved him

when he made bad choices and Abram

received the true rewards of life a deep

and abiding relationship with God God is

our true reward and in his economy he

will provide for us even when we make

choices that do not make sense in man's

economy avoid the forces of the world's

economy and seek to always please God

not man like Abram refused to be pulled

into offers to compromise or to settle

for the riches that man can provide your

life choices will indicate which King

you truly serve and like Abram

acknowledge at all times that everything

you have comes from God this will cause

you to be generous towards God's kingdom

just as Abram gave 1/10 to the high

priest Melchizedek remember to choose at

least one practical application to begin

this week you may want to help needy

relative or reevaluate your priorities

or find godly counselors to help you

make better life choices make a decision

to live in God's economy

and say no to the forces of greed and

self-serving attitudes God will be

honored and you will be rewarded with

true riches

I am Abram written about in the Bible

you can learn about me and this true

story in Genesis 13 through 50 what did

you learn from this true story how can

you apply this story to your own life

let me tell you some things that I've

learned from this experience what God

has taught me when God spoke to me and

told me to leave my home for the land of

Canaan I set out by faith I trusted that

God would be faithful to his promise to

make us into a great nation to bless all

the people of the earth through me even

though I did not know how he would do

that of where I was going

have you learned to be faithful to God

even though you do not know how he is

going to be faithful to his promises of

where he may be leading you god bless

both me and luck we prospered prospered

greatly our lives stopped multiplied and

increased so much that we could not care

for them in one place even though I

could have demanded the land that I

wanted I allowed lot to make his choice

first he chose the well watered land now

I was not greedy or covetous because I

knew that everything that was entrusted

to me came from God and I did not have

to fear losing anything after I accepted

the division of land based upon toys God

promised me that I would not lose any

land that he had planned for me as God

called you to let go of anything that

you may

to trust him to provide for your needs

la chose to pitch his tent near Sodom

where the men were wicked and sinning

greatly against the Lord

he was eventually taken captive and lost

all of his possessions I loved a lot and

I risk my life to rescue him have you

seen how important it is to remain

faithful to God

have you been willing to show love and

grace and mercy to others who may have

wronged you have you shown love and

kindness to those who did not deserve it

like I did when I rescued a lot when the

king of Sodom offered to make a deal

with me to keep all the spoils from

battle I refused his offer because I did

not want it to ever said that the king

of Sodom made abram rich again I refuse

to make decisions for my own benefit or

enrichment knowing that God had promised

to be my provider have you been willing

to compromise to gain possessions

knowing that you are not honoring God in

your decisions with money the king of

Salem Melchizedek is a mystery in

Scripture he's both a priest and a king

he said blessed be the Most High God who

has delivered your enemies into your

hand reminding me that it was God not I

who won the battle to rescue lot and all

the possessions that I took so i tithed

gave him a tenth of everything

I was under no law or command to do that

again I chose to be generous not because

I had to but because I wanted to honor

God are you generous with all that God

has given you is he calling you to give

to support his work through what he has

given to you are you faithful to God

even when tempted to compromise after

the choice I made to reject the deal

with the king of Sodom I was afraid that

I too might be attacked and destroyed I

lived in a land surrounded with danger

and hostility and my only allegiance was

to God God rewarded me promising to be

my shield and my defender to be my

exceedingly great reward and to give me

an heir from my own body a son that we

would call Isaac have you turned to God

with your troubles and your cares have

you expressed your needs to him God is

near those who are faithful especially

those faithful with something as small

as money and possessions there is so

much more God wants to teach us our next

story

I have the privilege of introducing you

to the truths that will equip you to

make the most important decision of your

entire life

first God loves you and want you to know

him

the verse that most clearly expresses

this is John 3:16 for God so loved the

world that He gave His only begotten Son

that whoever believes in Him shall not

perish but have eternal life

God wants to have a personal and close

relationship with each of us

unfortunately we're separated from him

by our sin Romans 3:23 says for all have

sinned and fall short of the glory of

God each of us has sinned and this has

created a gap between us and God that

cannot be bridged by our own efforts but

there's good news the gospel Jesus

Christ is God's provision to bridge the

gap he died on the cross to pay the

penalty for our sin Romans 5:8 tells us

but God demonstrates his own love toward

us and that while we were yet sinners

Christ died for us and in John 14:6

Jesus told us that he was the only

bridge when he said I am the way and the

truth and the life no one comes to the

Father but through me this relationship

is a gift from God Ephesians 2:8 and 9

or by grace you've been saved through

faith and that not of yourselves it's

the gift of God not as a result of the

works so that no one may boast we only

have to confess and turn away from our

sins and ask Jesus Christ into our life

to be our Savior and Lord

if you're not certain you have this

relationship I encourage you to turn to

Christ right now I invite you to bow

your head and close your eyes please

pray silently in your heart or out loud

with me if you prefer father god I need

you I confess my sins and turn away from

them

I invite you Jesus to come into my life

as Savior and Lord and make me the

person you want me to be thank you for

forgiving my sins and giving me the gift

of eternal life amen
