Now here's the compressor we're going to be using.

It's a plug in called aardvarks by waves.

Now this plug in is a very simple plug in.

As you can see, we have a gate right here.

A compressor and gain.

Now what we're going to be doing is we're going to be compressing the incoming signal by a few DBS just

to kind of smooth things out.

Now, a lot of times people will mention that it's good to, you know, IQ first and then to compression

or compression first, then do with you.

There's really no right or wrong way to do anything in music.

Everything is just, you know, you go off a field, you go off intuition, how you feel, how the record

feels, how things sound to you.

And if you develop a workflow that works for you, then that's what you want to do.

You know, you want to stick with your workflow and, you know, try new things and just always kind

of expand upon your knowledge and your your techniques and just way of doing things.

So let's go ahead and see what the compressor is doing.

So yeah, as you can see, we're compressing about three DB with the compressor is doing is it's rounding

out the the peaks in the volume of the vocal.

When mixing the vocal, we want to make sure that everything is well with rep vocals.

We kind of want to make sure that that vocal is kind of in place.

You know, we want to make sure that it's not moving all over the place that the peaks are, you know,

that the volume of the vocal is just pretty much up front and clean.

So by introducing this compression at the beginning, we are kind of getting ready to start sculpting

the vocal so that the volume can be consistent.
