I think it could have
ripped me to pieces

if it'd have wanted to,
as big as it was.

It might have wanted
to taste human flesh,
I don't know.

This is by far the scariest
thing that's ever
happened to me.

That night that
I seen that Bigfoot.

Something tragic
and bad happened
to someone at that house.

It was frightening.

One of he most scariest things
that I have ever gone through.

I think it was one of
the scariest moments
of my life

when I heard that voice.

It will stay with me forever.

It's something I'll never,
ever, ever forget.

My name is Jeff Russel.

This story happened
many years ago.

But I still remember just
like it was yesterday.

I grew up in the Midwest
in the Great Plaines area.

It's about eight
to ten miles...

east of Adair, Oklahoma.

I was raised out in the woods.

I used to go squirrel hunting
and rabbit hunting and...

do all kinds of hunting.

I wasn't scared
of being in the woods.

To me, there was
nothing in the woods
that was gonna get me.

At the age of ten, I-- I had

been bitten by
a copperhead snake and died.

And they brought
me back to life.

And then, 13 or 14 years old,
I almost drowned.

Even those
experiences don't...

compare to that night.

By far the scariest thing
that's ever happened to me.

This was in July of 1979
in Northeastern Oklahoma.

There was a place
down the road

about a quarter
of a mile from the house.

It's called the "Gravel Pit."

It was a place to hangout
and you know,
you could have bonfires

and nobody ever bothered
you or anything like that.

My brothers all decided
that we were gonna have
a fire that night.

My mom and my step-dad
went out for the evening.

They'd be back late.

They wasn't gonna leave
me home by myself.

So, I didn't have
much of a choice,
I had to go with them.

I was 11 years old
at the time.

I was the youngest
one out there.

With my brother, Neil
and my step-brother, Jesse.

Yeah, it's yours.

You just snatch
on them all the time.

Exactly.

Why am I even
hanging out with you?

'Cause we need
you to take care of us.

I think so, too.

We were all having
a really good time.

I mean we were...

cutting up, laughing,
telling stories.

Listen, it's not my fault that
she puts me in detention.

- It's mine.
- Yeah, it's yours.

I was just sitting
there, having a good time,

and we were talking
and everything

and my step-brother, Jesse...

just kind of stopped
and he was looking
at something and...

he pointed directly
in my direction

but he said,
you know, behind me.

He said, "What is
that in the tree?"

What the hell is that?

We all,
you know, like, "What?"

And we turned
around kinda looking.

Everybody kind
of just come to a hush.

Then everything got quite.

About that time, it moved.

It just stepped out
from behind the tree.

Took a couple steps.

It was big.

Compared to me, I'd say,
you know it had to have been

three foot taller than me.

I was the closest one to it.

He was probably
20 to 25 feet from me.

I didn't know what it was.

All I knew was there
was a big, hairy, ugly thing.

Kind of like a mixture
between a man and...
a gorilla.

I was in terror, I was...

I was scared to death.

I kind of lost track of time
there for a second.

It was coming
at my direction.

I think I was in shock

because I didn't hear
anything for, I'm not sure
how long it was.

My step-brother, Jesse,
I heard him say something.

Let's go, let's go!

And all of them
were piling in his car.

The car cranked up
and I turned back around

to look to see where
they had all went.

I didn't even
hear them get up.

I didn't hear them take
off running toward the car.

I didn't hear
anybody say, "Run."

And before I could get
to the car, they took off.

They just left me.

I was shocked.
Just left me there.

I was thinking,
"How could they leave me?"

"Wait, y'all forgot me."

I felt like...

"Oh no, I'm fixing to die
and nobody's ever gonna
see me again."

I wasn't
sticking around

to find out if it was gonna
be friend or foe, I mean...

Everybody else had took off.

And so I took off.

I just decided it was time
to get the heck out of dodge.

I ran after the car.

I hollered but they
didn't hear me holler.

The whole time I was thinking,
you know, "They left me.
They left me."

That just kept going
over and over in my head.

From where we
were at the bonfire,

to our house was
a quarter of a mile.

I was running
as fast as I could.

My heart was beating
a million miles an hour.

I thought it was trying
to catch me for sure.

I went to climb the fence
and my shorts got caught.

Ripped my shorts wide open.

I had a big, long scratch
on the inside of my thigh.

I looked back toward
where I had run from.

And the thing
was coming at me.

It was running
upright on two feet.

I think it thought it could
catch me before
I got to the house.

I was crying. I was,
you know, in hysterics.

I don't remember--
I remember talking to myself.

But I can't remember
what I said.

I mean, I mean I was...

I was just freaked out.

It could
rip me to pieces.

But I wasn't going to give
a chance to find out.

I was a pretty quick kid.

I didn't figure this
thing could catch me
if I ran my fastest.

When I looked back
going across the woods,

it seemed like it was
getting a little closer.

And a little closer
each time I looked.

And I was freaking out.

It was definitely
keeping up with me.

I thought I was gonna die.
I really did.

I thought the thing was
gonna catch me and kill me.

I jumped up and took
off running across the woods.

I was just running so fast,
I was running so hard.

And I was talking to myself.

Telling myself to "run faster,
run faster, run faster."

I ran straight
into the trailer.

I had never got across
that woods that fast.

It was maybe
25 feet behind me.

I think I found another gear

because I ran straight
across the yard,
straight to the house.

When I got to the house,

I started beating on the door.

And they didn't answer.

Let me in! Let me in!

And I looked back and the
thing was still coming.

He got to the edge of the yard
and I was beating on the door.

I was so scared.

Let me in, let me in!

Crying and begging
them to let me in the door.

I don't think my heart's
ever beaten that fast.

And there was a tree about
25 feet from our trailer.

And he was still
coming towards the house.

And then the door swung open

and my step-brother grabbed
me and jerked me in the house
and locked the door.

If I would've stayed outside,
that thing would've caught me

and there's no telling
what it would have done.

- Why'd you leave me?
- We didn't hear you.

We're so sorry, Jeff.

You know, they were real
apologetic about it but...

that didn't help me out none.

It's right behind me.

Like the lock
was gonna do any good.

But he locked the door.

And he had gotten my
step-dad's 12-guage shotgun.

And...

he was standing there,
aiming at the door.

The other kids
had run back home.

I was still scared
but I was relieved.

I felt like...

"Okay, it's not gonna come
through that door because

my step-brother was
standing there with a gun."

And I thought, "If it tries
to come in that door,
he's gonna shoot it."

It's in the forest,
right there.

Even when Jesse was
standing there with the gun,

I was terrified
of what would happen.

We went to the window.

I thought if that thing
wanted to come in the house,
it could have.

Then it got dark.

Everybody was scared to death.

We didn't know
where the thing was.

Then it just sounded like it
just run up and hit the side
of the house.

It was just a big boom!

You could feel the jolt

and all the dishes in
the cabinet was like

cranking on each other.

It actually cracked
the inside of the wall.

It's the creature.

It's trying to smash through.

My step-dad had
a collection of plates

hanging up on the wall.

And they were
knocked off the wall.

All the pictures just
about fell off the wall.

And I was maybe 6 to 7 feet

from where it hit
the side of the house.

Everybody just
stopped and then...

all the noise in the house
stopped because Jesse said,
"Shut up!"

Will y'all shut up?

We had
a dog named Buddy.

And he was a mean dog.

He was a trained attack dog.

That dog was
not afraid of nothing.

When the thing comes
to the end of the house,

Buddy's seen it.

And he started
just raising cain.

He was trying to get loose
to get whatever it was.

I'd never seen
him like that. He was...

He was just out of control.

Everybody was scared to death.

Then, he hit the trailer.

The second time.

I think it was just
trying to find a weak spot.

Maybe a way to
knock down the wall
and come in the house.

We waited a few minutes
and there was another
boom about

four, five foot
down on the wall.

They were pretty loud bangings
on the side of the house.

And it was going toward
the front end of the trailer.

So, Jesse goes to
the window to look out of it.

He looked out
and didn't see anything.

Then we heard another voice,
we didn't know what it was.

It was
the aluminum siding

on the house was
actually being crumpled.

We kinda felt something.

Felt like the house
was shook a little bit.

The thing had tried
to get up underneath

and he picked the trailer
up to shake it.

It had actually moved

a few inches on
the cinderblocks

that the house was sitting on.

We could actually feel
like the house shook.

And then everything
just went quite.

Accept for...

Buddy kept barking.

We didn't know
what had happened.

We didn't know
where that thing was.

The dog got quiet,
everything got quiet.

My brother Jesse, he said

"If that thing comes around
here, I'm gonna shoot it."

Then we heard something
coming towards the door.

Jesse, he was standing there,
aiming at the door.

Everybody was scared to death.

And then we heard
another boom.

Beating on the door.

No, stop.

What's going on in there?

My mom and step-dad came home.

My step-dad first
come into the house

and seen his plates
weren't on the wall no more.

You know, he was like,
"What happened here?"

We was all trying
to talk at the same time.

We was all like,
"You wouldn't believe this."

And we all started telling

our step-dad about
what had happened.

The first thing my
step-dad said was...

"Well I ought
to whoop y'alls...

tail end for going out there."

My step-dad went
and got a flashlight

and went out there and looked
where it had beat on
the side of the house.

All of us went out there.

Jesse still had the shotgun.

He said, "If we
was going outside,
he was gonna have a gun."

'Cause he didn't know
where the thing was.

It could be out there
in the bushes somewhere.

And it was plain as day,
you could see

each place where
it had hit the house.

I'd say each dent
was probably about
the size of a dinner plate.

And probably two
to three inches

indented into the side
of the house.

About three foot apart,
you could see...

two indentions in the house.

Like you know where
it had tried to pick it up.

We didn't find any
blood or any hair or...

any evidence other than
the dents and the home.

Guys, over here.

You could see the house
had moved about four inches

on the concrete
blocks it was sitting on.

And so we were all, you know,
like "Wow!" you know--

That had to be strong,
you know, to move
the whole house that far.

If it would have caught me,
I don't have any idea
what it would've done to me

but I don't think it would
have any problems
ripping me apart.

Buddy, you saved us all.

I think my dog
scared it off.

I really do.

I think at some point,

it had had an encounter
with a dog that wasn't good.

If my dog hadn't been there,

I don't think that thing
would have left when it did.

My step-dad,

he told us all to go to bed
and he said, you know,

he would watch
and make sure the thing
didn't come back.

The next day,
I felt kind of...

excited but it...
kinda scared.

Jeff, Jeff, come here.

I was kinda
frightened but...

exhilarated.

You could see,
just as plain as day

there was a footprint
right there in the dirt.

I put my foot down
next to it and it was...

like, twice the size
of my foot.

And I wore a size like
eight or nine shoe.

And it was... It was huge.

You could plainly see
five toes. It was loose dirt.

My step-dad, he took
pictures of the footprint.

And my mom and him divorced.

I don't know what
happened to the pictures.
I guess he kept the pictures.

My mom didn't have them,
I know that much.

I have no doubt
in my mind that

that thing probably
could've caught me
if it really wanted to.

And I often wonder what
it would have done to me
if it would've caught me.

It may have been hungry.
It might have wanted to...
taste human flesh.

It was definitely a...

a life-changing event.

After that at night...

I was always scared
of being outside.

Especially if I didn't
have a gun or...

or some kind of protection.

If my dog was running loose,

I was fine because
my dog wouldn't have let
nothing happen to me.

We didn't hear
anything about it or...

see it any more for...

I guess it was about two
or three months and then

I heard that somebody had
reported seeing the same thing

at a town about 15 miles
from where we live.

I guess it was the same one.

Anybody who has doubts
that Bigfoots are real,

or don't believe,

take my word for it.

They are real.

Something tragic and bad

at that house.

It was frightening.

many locations across

the State of Michigan.

What we like to do
is find obscure places

that maybe have
a haunted reputation
or dark past or history.

So, we can actually be
the first ones maybe

to experience something
different that other
people can't.

I'm always searching
for new locations to go.

I came across Beaver Island.
It's in lake Michigan.

And it's about a two
and half hour ferry ride
to get to the island.

Todd and I decided
to take a little road trip.

We were staying in a cabin.

Todd and Jeff had
heard a lot of stuff
about the island.

About the paranormal activity
and the history itself.

And about
the lighthouse out there.

The lightkeeper's house

has been rumored
to be haunted.

It's very creepy,
it's very remote.

Which is something
that kind of appeals to us.

We felt like we needed to
go check this place out.

The island, it was
beautiful. It was kinda eerie.

We arrive at the cabins
that we were staying at.

I started jumping into
like the history and...

found things out that
just blew me away.

So a lot of tragedy.
A lot of negative history.

There were so many shipwrecks
around that island.

I know that there
were some fatalities.

I believe I heard that one
of the lighthouse keepers

actually had died in one
of those shipwreck
crew recoveries.

People said that,

"Well, you have to check
out the lightkeeper's house
before you leave."

There's rumors that one of
the lighthouse keepers
were murdered.

His whole family was murdered
at the lightkeeper's house.

It could be whoever murdered
that family is still there.

But basically it's been
abandoned since then.

I wanted to find out what
really happened at that house.

We'd been exploring
a lot during the day.

So, by the time that we went
to check out that house,

it was pretty late.

It was probably
around midnight.

We're driving
down this long, dark road.

I started feeling really
nervous and uneasy.

I mean, it was pitch
black. There was nothing.

Just woods, woods,
woods, woods,.

And as we started
to get closer,

even though I didn't know
exactly where it was at,

I could...
My heart started racing.

Something
wasn't right.

I just felt it on
the way there.

We pull up to
the lightkeeper's house.

It was kind of
amazing to see this

structure in the middle
of nowhere,

and the woods cut
all out around it.

The house,
it has a certain feel to it.

Almost like electric.

You could feel
the energy of this building.

I was excited,
you know, but I was still...

in the back
of my mind that like
that fear was there.

And I wasn't-- Still at this
point wasn't sure why.

Woah, creepy!

Yeah.

You okay?

- Guess so. Let's do it.
- All right.

We decided to go,
explore the grounds.
Explore the house.

We would
just take a recorder

and just record
our time there.

And see if we got any
responses or anything

unexplainable on the audio.

Because sometimes,
when the spirit's present,
it might show up on audio.

I had sensed some
energy on the front porch.

That's when I felt nauseous
and kind of sick to
my stomach.

She was warning me

and telling me
that we must go.

That we're not welcome there.

I mean, look,
we've made it this far.
I'm not gonna turn back now.

Let's do this.

Brandy said she thought
maybe it was a woman
that had lived there.

Like it was the lighthouse
keeper's wife or something
like that.

She said that this
woman didn't sound angry,

she sounded like she
was trying to protect us

from something
darker in the house.

You know, Jeff and I,
being the adventurers we are,

decide to push forward,
Brandy would not.

And she stayed, you know,
in the car the whole time
when we were there.

The hair at the back
of my neck stood up.

I had this strange... feeling
but I wanted to explore it.

I like struggled with myself
like, this doesn't seem right,

but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Don't go.

You know, usually,
we always trust our
intuition and our instinct.

This time,

we decided to go against it.

And go against what Brandy
was kind of feeling
and telling us.

She refused to go with us.

But I could tell
she was shook up.

We were
hoping that there was
an open door somewhere

that we can get inside.

We could hear things
moving inside this house.

We can hear footsteps.
We can hear doors closing.

At one point, I can swear
I heard someone talking.

You know you try
to rationalize that stuff.

Maybe it's an animal,
maybe it's the wind.

Then, I don't know if
my mind playing tricks
on me at that point

because everything
was happening.

The energy was rammed up.

The warning that we had got
when we first pulled up there.

We definitely felt
like something was there.

It's just an awareness
of a presence.

The fear that I felt

was just that I knew that this
was something very powerful
and very evil.

I really...

got scared.

Got it.

Finally, we found
a door that was open.

We walked in.

Kind of looked around,
there's some artifacts.

Historical artifacts from
the lightkeeper's house.

What was that?

It was a little
bit excitement
and also a little bit fear

because I felt like something
could possibly happen.

This place had a certain feel,
a certain energy to it.

Look at that.

That's creepy.

The strange
feeling that we both felt

was there was
something watching us.

You try to go every
route possible

to debunk things
that you hear.

So you don't feel like
you're losing your mind.

But there was
no doubt in that room...

we had something happen to us.

I was very nervous.

Very uneasy feeling because
I knew something wasn't right.

Something didn't
want us there.

And all I wanted
to do was just leave.

Woah!

It almost felt like...

I was doing something wrong.

Like I'm coming into someone's
home that doesn't want
me there.

Like I was uninvited.

I still couldn't help myself.
I wanna keep going

'cause I want to find out
what was going on inside
that house if we could.

I was worried
when I left Todd and Jeff
inside the house.

I just felt so sick
to my stomach.

There was just this intense
negative energy there.

There was this door

but the rest of the house
was sealed off.

So, we couldn't get
into any other rooms.

Do you hear that?

Yeah.

We can hear footsteps.

Just like a person
walking inside that house.

To me it sounded
like something literally

slid across the floor.

Like a table or something.

That place was
abandoned for decades.

There was no people there,
there was no
electricity there.

There is no water there.

There is no way no one
can live in that house.

That is when we begin
recording the audio.

We still were
hearing stuff and...

I said...

"What if you turn
that door handle?"

I shook it.

But the door
stayed locked.

Even though all that
stuff was happening,
I still want to push forward.

But at that point,
everything changed.

Like it got really,
really intense.

And the feeling of like dread.

I felt something evil. I don't
think it liked us at all.

If we would have
stayed any longer

I really believe something bad
probably could have happened.

I thought someone was
gonna jump out and grab us.

Todd and I after
we were done taking the audio,

we got back to the vehicle
and Brandy was inside.

She was very ready to leave.

And we definitely felt like
there was something there.

You could definitely feel

the energy of that place

kind of have the feeling sort
of like you're being watched

even though you're very
remote and on this...

island where no one else is.

Let's go, guys!

Yeah, we're going.

Todd and Jeff's
face were kinda shocked.

It was almost like
they were pale white.

We couldn't really believe
what we experienced there.

We started to move
away and it was just a huge

feeling of relief.

And the farther that we
got away from that place,
the better I felt.

There was something there
that didn't want us there.

There was something there
that we probably disturbed.

That we probably
shouldn't have did.

I'll never forget
that terror along with

excitement, there's just so
many emotions that are
rolled into that.

And... It's just
unexplainable. Unexplainable.

When we got
back to the cabin,

Todd and I went into our
cabin where our stuff was.

Todd and Jeff were
going over the recordings

inside of the cabin.

Todd began listening
back to the audio.

I put my headphones on
and I started going over
the audio.

And then, a voice came
across the recording.

Something I've never, ever
heard in my entire life.

Woah!

Woah!

I was trying to figure
out what it said
and to me it says,

"Shipwreck.
I told you to get out."

But the voice
was so evil and dark.

Something I've never
heard before.

I don't know a human
can make that noise.
Or that voice.

Listen.

About the last
five minutes of audio,

was inside the house area.

The voice itself, it doesn't
sound like a human talking.

It sounds like something
other worldly.

I don't wanna say demonic

but honestly, that's
the way the voice sounds.

He said,
"You gotta listen to this."

And he backed the audio up.
And he played it.

How?

I don't know.

This voice that was
captured on the audio

to me sounds like something
from The Exorcist.

It sounds evil and...

to know that it was only
Todd and myself in that room,

and to have just
been in that moment.

I mean, this was
recorded not probably

15-20 minutes prior
to us listening to this.

And the audio was so...

like scary to me, personally
that I didn't even want to
keep listening to it.

That's a very
strong entity.

It was capture right
when I was touching

the door handle, like that
was the breaking point.

The spirit had had enough
of us being there.

And was wanted to...

say and with no uncertain
terms that we needed to
get out of there.

It wasn't even
a questionable thing.

It was loud, it sounded angry,

and it sounded evil.

When that voice said
that, even though we didn't
hear it in the moment,

that's pretty much
when we left.

That's when I said,
"I can't do this anymore."

This was probably
the most scariest

voice on recorder
that we've ever heard
from a spiritual energy, yes.

We were all
legitimately scared
when we heard that audio.

The thing about that island is

there's no way off of it
in the middle of the night.

The ferry comes
I think twice a day.

So, when you're on the island,
you're on the island,
there's nowhere else to go.

I couldn't wait to get home.

I had a dream
about that voice.

Shipwreck.
I told you to get out.

It was sheer terror.

I was the first one up,
I was the first one packed.

I couldn't wait to leave.

I just wanna get home

and get as far away
as I possibly could
from Beaver Island.

After I heard
the voice of the
spiritual energy,

I just wanted off the island,
to be honest with you.

It was just frightening.
It was very frightening.

We end up going
on the ferry and...

we just looked at the island.

It was like, "Okay, good
riddance" and we were done.

We were done
after that weekend.

I think whatever
spirit is in that house

would like to keep
everybody away.

I knew that this was
something very powerful
and very... I would say evil.

And you know, you wanna be
careful anytime you're dealing
with anything like that.

We're still
adventurous we're still...

looking for these

obsolete, obscure places
that no one else has found.

But I think
we're more cautious.

It's a place I don't
ever wanna go back to.

That feeling
of dread and terror.

Yeah, it's shaken me.
It will stay with me forever.

It's something I'll never,
ever, ever forget.
