waiting for this thing

I live in Temple, Texas,
and I'm a disabled vet.

I joined the military
back in 1989.

I got sent overseas to Kuwait
to go fight in Desert Storm.

Fought the Medina
Republican Guard

near the borders
in the Battle of Medina Ridge.

After the military, in 2001,
my son was born.

I moved in to Elms Grove
Estate Park in Killeen, Texas.

Bought a mobile home in there.

I loved the woods
that are nearby there.

It was
very beautiful scenery.

I love Mother Nature.

I believe that what I've seen
in the woods,

that was the most terrifying
experience of my life.

At the time,
me and my husband
had gotten separated,

so Abe and me
decided to move in together.

I never wanna go back
to that house
in the woods again.

I always keep on
looking outside,

At first, things were okay.

just an eerie feeling.

from the back of my neck.

It felt like it was coming
from the trees.

The kids, they weren't there.
There was nobody.

I was scared.
I was worried.

I couldn't find them,
you know?

I'm like, "Where did they go?"

I was searching for 'em
and yelling for 'em,

but they wouldn't
respond to us.

- Tom?

It was scary.

- Tom!
- I was scared, you know?

That's my son, my only son.

Tom!

To me, the military instinct
is just try to find them.

I think I see them.

I ran through the bushes
and the trees over there.

Thank God that we found them.

And I said,
"What are you all doing?"

Tom, I'm glad you're okay.

They were like
kind of hypnotized,

like they were
in a trance-like state.

They wouldn't respond to us.

I finally got
their attention.

The kids did say
that they followed somebody.

They said that a man
in black was calling them

and that the man in black
called them into the woods.

The man in black?

It was kind of creepy,
you know?

Take them.
I'm gonna find him.

Come on, let's go back.

I started searching,
trying to find this person

that lured them in the woods.

I wanted to capture him
to call the police.

I searched everywhere,

trying to see if I could find
this man in black...

But I didn't find nobody.

After that day,
I would get chills.

I would get chills, you know?
Goosebumps.

I tried to
kind of like
ignore the situation.

I'm trying to think
it's not real,

but I was afraid.

A couple of months later,

I was trying to help out
my nephew and his wife,

so they could get
on their feet.

Their son was sleeping
in the living room.

My grandson was a newborn.

He was like a few weeks old.

I was in my room
and I heard

my nephew's son crying,
and he was crying and crying,

and I was trying
to figure out

what was going on with him.

When I open
my bedroom door...

Rick!

I've seen someone over him.

Is that you?

So I thought it was
my nephew changing his diaper.

That's when I knew
it wasn't my nephew.

It took off the front door.

Beatrice!

So I yell out,

"Someone's trying
to take little Rick."

The baby.

So I went running after him.

I just felt worried
and scared.

- Hey!
- I went outside
the front door

- and I started chasing it.
- Hey!

Who are you?

I was yelling at it,

but it kept on going
towards the park.

It was all black.

That was the same figure,

the dark shadow that lured
my son into the woods.

What are you?

It was making fun of me.

And it was one of those laughs

that is, is letting me know
is gonna come back

and mess with me again.

It was something
supernatural.

I'm trying to figure out

what does
this negative entity want.

I believe it wanted
to gain power over me,

and I'm not gonna give it
the power.

I felt that I was getting
spiritually tested.

It was just laughing.

And then...

it just disappears
in thin air.

Not everybody believes
in a higher power,

but I've always believed
in a higher power.

I've seen...

miracles while I was
in the military.

And I believed it worked
for me that day.

Nothing happened to me
for months.

Things were okay till October.

I was lying down
and I was falling asleep,

and I heard a woman screaming.

It sounded so scary to me
and 'cause it's...

It was really super loud.

So, I got up and I went
and told my brother Abe...

Wake up, wake up, wake up!

...that there was
a woman screaming...

We gotta help her! Wake up!

- Wait, help who?
- I don't know!

...that maybe she needed help.

I could hear
this woman yelling for help.

And she's saying,
"Help, help me."

Help me, please.

I grabbed my bat,
walked off the porch.

- Are you coming with me?
- No!

He did ask me
if I wanted to go.
I told him no.

Um, 'cause it sound...

I mean, I got scared,
'cause it sounded so ugly.

Hello?

Somebody help me, please!

You said you needed help?

I was following the voice,

or should I say,
the cry for help.

- Help me.
- Hello?

It was coming
from within the woods.

Please, someone help me.

Hello?

So I go in there
and it's pitch dark,

and I hear the voice
getting closer

and closer and closer.

- Hello?
- Please help!

I seriously thought
that I was gonna be there

and hit somebody with the bat,
then help her to safety.

Please, someone help me!

As I try to get near
to swing my bat,

as soon as I was fixing
of swinging my bat,

I didn't hear the woman
crying for help no more.

I had this feeling over me.

I felt deceived or tricked,

that I got lured
in the woods.

And I felt
something wasn't right.

Is anybody there?

I turned around.
That's when I seen 'em.

There was two of them.

I could only see their
dark silhouettes

with glowing eyes.

I was... terrified.

My mind didn't know
what to think.

They were huge, real tall.

I guess my military instincts
at that time told me,

"Swing the bat!"

But then to myself, I said,

"How am I gonna swing the bat
to something that big?

It's gonna, it's gonna
do something to me."

And I did feel, "I'm not gonna
make it out of these woods."

So, the only thing
I know how to do

is go into prayer.

I started praying
the Our Father.

Our Father,
who art in heaven...

And I started walking.

And for some reason
or another,

that worked
and they stayed away from me.

They stayed away from me
when I went into prayer.

And lead us
not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

So I kept on praying
the Our Father

as I, as I hit the park.

I, I never, never looked back.

I just kept
on walking and praying.

Our Father...

Didn't turn back,
because I was afraid

that if I turned back,
it was gonna be there.

Something was
gonna be behind me.

Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done.

Father, give us this day
our daily bread.

When my brother came back

from after going in the woods,

he tries to be strong
in front of me,

but his face
looked kind of pale.

There was a shadow,
a black shadow.

When I made it home,
I was scared,

and I was just
happy to be alive.

I went to the shower.

I got the scent
of fear off of me,

because I was, I was afraid.

I didn't want nothing
to be attached to me,

like the scent
of whatever was out there.

So I prayed to God
to, to protect me

and to heal me
and to protect my home.

The day after,
me and my nephew

went back into the woods
to see if we can find

any evidence,
maybe a purse or an ID.

They would go out in the woods
and they would take pictures.

He was taking
random pictures.

- You see that?
- I think do.

- Let me get a photo.
- Okay.

You could see...

this beastly creature
standing right here.

What is that?

And then it disappears
in thin air.

And there's the picture
that my nephew took that day.

Okay, did you see?
I think I got it. You see it?

Yeah!

I know what that's
supposed to be.

See? Right over there,

- but I don't see it anymore.
- Yes, yes, yes.

that my nephew

took in the woods when he was
flashing the camera.

You could see something
standing right here,

some kind of creature.

I'm 5'11". The top of my head
is right there by the wood.

So this creature
that's standing right here

is way taller than 5'11".

It was very scary.

I was just blessed
that nothing happened to me.

When they would come back,

my brother Abe showed me
these, these pictures.

Look, look, you see?

It was just, you know,
creepy and scary.

What are we gonna do?

We were both worried,
but the reason I stayed is

I figured I blessed my home,
I protect my home,

that I should be able to be
safe from anything, you know?

Whether it'd be somebody human
or anything supernatural.

One day, I'd gone out
to shoot some pool,

and when it was time to close,

I'd gotten a ride
with my friend.

It was like around 2:30
in the morning.

We parked by the side
of the mobile home.

I'm so glad that I bumped...

Then, not even
two, three minutes
as we parked...

No, seriously,
I really would...

...she said...

What is that behind us?

And I said,
"What are you talking about?"

And then she said,
"Oh, my God,
there's one in front."

There's one to her left
and one to her right.

She was scared, terrified.

What do they want?

They moved really fast.

What I was seeing
was like a brownish shape.

Once again, my spiritual
instinct told me,

"Pray. Go into prayer."

The only way
you're gonna be able

to fight a spiritual war...

You're not gonna be able
to fight it with weapons.

You're not gonna be able
to fight with... physically.

It's gotta
be done spiritually.

I gotta get out of her.

We have to pray.

I told her to start praying
and I started praying.

I rebuke you
in the name of Christ.

I start praying...

and it just disappears
in thin air.

My friend...
She backed out and left.

That's the last time that
I really got to talk to her,

because she told me she would
never come back to that area.

Went back inside the house.

He came in and told me

that there was
a lot of shadow figures.

Not only one, but there were
several that he had seen.

take a look at this?

You've got scratches!

I had scratch marks
on my back.

It was something very...

very scary, very scary.

I was scared, you know?

But I tried to be tough.

I tried not to freak out,
but, yeah, I was terrified,

I was scared.

There's something evil
out there.

You know that saying,
"Whatever happens to you

it makes you stronger"?

Well, what happened
that night

made me stronger spiritually.

I wanted to warn my neighbors

and let them know
what was happening.

- Hi.
- There was a lady

that told me
not to go in those woods.

She told me if I ever heard
what a shapeshifter was.

I said, "I don't know anything
about no shapeshifting."

She told me a shapeshifter
is a spiritual creature.

It's not here in the flesh.

The shapeshifter could take
forms of you, of me.

It can mimic voices,
and not just of you and me,

but of animals or of beasts.

Really?

She said that
I was dealing with

maybe a Native
spirit shapeshifter.

I was just living
in their territory.

That land is very cursed,

and there's a very negative
powerful presence there.

It's very, very scary.

The only way you can
overcome it is spiritually.

My brother,
he would put holy water.

We would pray in every room.

And he would bless
around the house
and everything.

There was a lot of activity

that happened
after those incidents.

For example,
banging on the walls.

There were so many bangings
on the walls at night-time.

They were coming to my home.

And they were not just
banging on the outside,

they were throwing rocks.

I could hear drumbeats
coming out of those woods.

I felt that I was dealing
with something Native.

Like letting me know
we're here.

I just knew that I was
gonna try to fight it.

I figured I bless my home,
I protect my home,

that I should be able
to be safe from anything.

So, what I would do,
I would grab my holy water.

I'd grab some salts.

I would actually go outside
and start praying

around my mobile home,
so they would leave
my property.

Dear Lord...

So I prayed.

...I pray you,
protect this house.

But... it didn't stop.

And I said, "Well,
what am I doing wrong?"

Pray you, protect this house.

I felt that I had
to ask for forgiveness.

And I asked God
for forgiveness

for who I've been in combat,
you know?

Pray...

But it didn't work.

And you could
hear them laughing.

And as I was walking...

...I was getting hit
by an unseen force,

that it would hit me
in the back.

I shook it off and I stand up
with my guard up,
ready to fight.

But it was strong.

I passed out.
Like, my energy got drained.

I don't know how long
I was unconscious.

My son woke me.

Tom.

- Tom.
- What I went through...

Instead of waiting for things
to get worse,

right off the bat,

you should take authority
over it and say,
"You know what?

I'm not believing in you.

I'm taking authority over you.
Leave now!"

We have that power
within us to...

Instead of
something growing,

we can make it disappear
by not believing in it.

After that,
I moved from that area.

I was happy when I left.

It felt totally different.

I stopped seeing things,
hearing things.

Abe!

Come on, let's go!

It just felt...

I wasn't scared anymore.

I've seen so many things,

but that was the most
terrifying experience
of my life

because I got
attacked physically...

by an unseen force.

It wanted for me
to finish my life,

or to get my soul.

And I'm not gonna
give up my soul

to something negative,
because I know that I have

an opportunity
to make it into heaven.

That was not a human being.

were terrified.

I spent over 20 years
in law enforcement

as a police officer
outside Washington DC.

I've had a lot
of weird things happen

in my line of profession.

But what happened to us
out there,

it was
the most terrifying thing

that ever happened to me.

My name is Cindy Dolly.

We didn't go
into the woods very much,

unless we were with adults.

And what happened to me
as a child

has stayed with me
my whole life.

I was around 13 years old
when this happened.

My family lived
outside Washington DC,

in the suburbs.

We usually
took our vacations in June.

And we would take a week
and go to Missouri.

My uncle had a farm,

and he raised cows and pigs
and chickens

and all sorts of animals
on the farm.

When we went to visit,

we would stay with my uncle
with his wife.

My younger sister, Cindy.

We took care of each other.

We played jokes on each other.

I used to play a lot
of jokes on Cindy, a lot.

It was the early '70s.
You didn't have social media.

You didn't have cell phones.

You made
your own entertainment.

We had fun.

I mean, the kids would be
separate from the adults,

running all day and eating.

And everybody sat
around and gossiped,

and you caught up
on everybody's life.

I really missed this place.

It really is
a beautiful place.

My uncle's farm
was pretty far out
in the country.

No mountains,
Missouri's a lot of prairie.

There are patches of woods,

and those woods have
a lot of bluffs and rocks.

There's a lot
of wooded area there,

a lot of low valleys
with caves, old mine shafts.

Things like that.

There were areas
that had never been touched,

because the farm
had been in the family

for well over 100 years.

That evening,
my uncle had left the house

to go to a meeting in town,
which was a few miles away.

At the time there was
no street lights,

so it was dark,
except for the few lights
that we had,

the front door of the house,
and then my uncle

had a light over
where the kerosene was kept.

In the house was myself,
my sister Cindy,

my mother, my aunt.

So it was just us girls
at the house,

relaxing and just chilling.

Okay, girls, time for bed.

- Mom!
- Mom, please.

Can we just finish the puzzle?

Yeah, but it's late, honey.

And my mom at this point
wanted us to go to bed.

The bedroom
that my sister and I

were gonna be staying in
was right off the living room.

I can remember we were
horse playing around.

Then we heard
the first scream.

And...

We... It scared us.

My mom, she'd heard
a lot of the stories

about mountain lions
and bears.

But this was not an animal.

The noise sent chills
up your arm.

What is that?

I don't know.

So they started
turning all the lights off.

And that, to me, I guess
was so that they could see

out of the house
and whatever was out there

couldn't see what was
going on in the house.

When the lights went off,
it became very surreal...

while we were standing
in the dark,

waiting for this thing
to break the window out.

My aunt went
from the living room

into the bedroom
and got a shotgun.

I think it was at that point

the fear set in.

'Cause you could hear it
getting closer to the house.

When I saw my mom screaming,
my aunt holding a gun...

and then I knew, "Oh, God,
something's really bad."

It was pretty close
to the house at this point.

It was in the yard.

There was
a big picture window,

and she had
sheer curtains on it,

so you could just barely see.

And you could tell this thing
was standing at the door.

And it was almost like
it was examining the door.

And that's
when the first bang hit.

When this creature
started hitting the house...

...it felt like our hearts
were gonna explode,

because we were screaming
just as loud as it was.

And it didn't let up.

And this thing came into view

when it got in front
of that picture window.

And it was on two feet
and it was tall.

It had a silhouette
of a human,

a very, very, very
big human being.

My sister and I
were terrified,

because we knew
it was not a man.

Nothing could be that big.

It was like it was
banging and screaming,

banging and screaming,
banging and screaming.

The whole house shook.

I think it really terrified
my mom and my aunt.

I don't know what it is,
but I gotta get it.

No, don't!

You can't!
You can't go out there.

And my aunt
at that point is like,

"That's it.

Enough. That's it. No more."

My aunt went out the door

and I grabbed onto the back
of my mom, just reactionary.

I was scared
and I was holding on to her.

As we were coming out
the door,

this thing
was hitting the wall

as it was going down the side
of the house.

My aunt, she had
a double-barrel shotgun

in her hand
and she cocked it.

And when she cocked it,

this thing got angry
and screamed.

That guttural yell again.

And my mom went,
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God."

What was that?

And I remember seeing
the leg and we froze.

You could see its calf.

- What is that?

It was like a man's leg,

but it was covered
in hair fur.

Come on.

And then it was
complete quiet.

It was silence.

What's that smell?

And the smell.

Ugh. Smells like an animal.

When you go to the zoo

and you go to the ape house,
that smell, a sweaty, sour...

It almost gags you.

Let's go.

There was an embankment

a little ways away.

You could hear it
getting further away.

And another thing
which is really strange,

the animals
were extremely quiet.

Normally,
during the night on a farm,

you can hear the cows
or the pigs.

I didn't hear anything.

I think
the animals went quiet

because of the smell,
the predatory smell.

My aunt called my uncle.

You gotta get home!
There's something out there!

He came home
very fast, very fast.

I remember him going out,

looking for this creature,
whatever it was.

Him being out there
maybe an hour

and not seeing anything
and not hearing anything.

I just think
that it was alarming to him,

because he didn't know
what it was.

It kind of made a mark
on all of us.

I think possibly
that this creature

had been watching us.

It wasn't a chance encounter.

It had to have been watching
when my uncle left.

I think it had intelligence.

It was like it wanted us
to come out of the house.

The easiest way,
make noise and scream.

And to me,
that's the thought pattern.

Being a, a police officer,

I have to see things
to believe it.

That was not a human being.

I think it was Bigfoot.

Sasquatch.

I think it was Bigfoot.

I'm a believer. I was there.

I heard it. I, I know
there's something out there.

And I wish and I hope
that they never find it.
