There was
an old church.

It was terrifying.

I can see this big,
huge shadow figure.

There's nothing you can do.
There's nowhere you can go.

You're at the mercy
of the woods.

I don't know
if it was trying to kill me

or trying to hurt me.

But I was scared as hell.

We have this
large creature behind us.

It was almost like something

out of a horror movie.

- Terror builds
and builds and builds.

There's always that fear
that it's going to attack.

We're not going to outrun
something like that.

At that point,
we were no longer there
as investigators.

I thought we were going
to be someone's lunch.

My name
is Josh Turner.

I have a security company.

I've been doing security
for about 25 years.

I have nightmares
every time I talk about this.

My name is Gary López.

I do security.

I've been friends
and I've worked with Josh

for over 20 years.

This incident that happened
to me at this church

was the scariest thing
that has ever happened to me.

It scares me
to talk about it still,

I still feel...

almost like I did
when I was there.

I was born
and raised in Austin

for most of my life.

Josh hired me, doing security.

And I've always enjoyed
working for him,

because he's
upfront and honest.

I always called Gary up when
I need some people to work.

Gary, I've got a job
on Saturday night.

Are you available?

He's been working
for me for straight like,

I don't know, 14 years?

I was partnered up
in a security company.

We got a contract offer
with a pretty substantial pay

at a building.

But it was 50 or 60 miles
out in the middle of nowhere.

And so, I went out
there to go check it out.

Driving up to it, it was just
like surrounded by trees.

There was one way in,
and one way out.

The church was completely
surrounded by woods.

And I immediately had
a weird feeling in my gut

because it was creepy.

They had been without security
for a couple of days already,

because the last company
had left.

I thought
it was being vandalized.

See what they did here.

They had
ladders broken.

Paint cans tumbled over,

they'd spilled out
all of the paint.

What a mess.

Geez.

It had been empty
for about 20 years.

So I guess they
were in there trying

to turn it
into a church again.

They told us that
some of the crosses were

thrown about or some of them
had been turned upside down

from after they put them up.

Religious pictures,
one of them fell down

and actually, hit one
of the other contractors

in the head.

He said it was like
somebody was trying

to keeping him from
finishing the job.

And then this inside.

It's all broken up.
No respect.

It looked kind of, like,
sacrilege, you know?

So that's why
they needed the security.

Somebody
had taken a power washer

and thrown it
through one of the windows.

But it was
from the inside out.

I'm a pretty strong guy,

I don't know
how I could've lifted that

and thrown it
10 feet in the air

like, through a window.

It just didn't make sense.

I can't say
it was broken into,

but it looked like there
were signs of forced exit,

but not forced entry,

which is odd.

And there were things that
absolutely did not add up.

Well, we took the job,
because the pay was good

and our partner was
on board, he was like,

"Yeah, let's take it
and let's see what happens."

And I talked
to a couple of the guards

that could do it,
and they said yeah,

that they would do it.

The first guard went
up there and had a problem.

If I remember correctly,

he said he was
locked in the church.

Because the door wouldn't open

and he had urinated himself.

And he left
in the middle of his shift.

The second guard claims that
something had touched him,

and he fell over a pew.

And then he left
in the middle of the night.

Third guy,
I asked him point blank,

"Do you believe in ghosts?

At that point,
people were telling me

that they were seeing ghosts
out there,
and he told me, "No."

Claims he didn't believe
in anything like that.

And then he leaves
in the middle of the night.

They were having
the lights in the bathroom

turning off and on.

They had trouble opening
not only the bathroom door,

but the door
of the church itself.

They said that, you know
they were hearing voices,

they were seeing
things in the woods.

Different things
were happening

to these different people
that worked there.

So, I was stuck.

I told Gary
"We need somebody to do it."

And I said "Just give me
a couple of days out there."

I had to give him
a ride out there,

and it's a long drive.

The church was actually about
60 miles outside of town.

Once you get
to the winding road,

the woods were almost
all the way around it.

It was a little creepy,
because I had already heard

the stories
from the other guys.

But because of my history
doing security,

I didn't take it
for to be as bad as it was.

I thought he was
going to be the one that

put a stop
to all the nonsense.

Even if there was
something going on there,

I thought he would
be able to handle it.

Once you got
to the church itself,

it was a little bit eerie.

It's just you and the woods.

Being surrounded
by really thick trees,
you know,

being surrounded by woods
is what made it scarier.

You're just out there
on your own.

It was a little bit weird.

I thought it was
a little bit strange.

I was a little bit
creeped out.

It was an old church.

We found out later
that it was actually

an old Spanish missionary.

Josh made sure once again

that I actually wanted
to go out there.

So I was like, "Yeah,
no, it's no problem."

And I still kind
of held out hope that it was

just a little bit of hysteria.

And Gary was going
to put a stop to it.

You know, this is where
it stops, right here.

There ain't going
to be no more shenanigans,

he's going to do this job.

Josh, he had
his own shift
he had to go work.

So, I went into the church.

We had been told
by the contractor

that they didn't care
if we stayed awake

or went to sleep,

just to make sure
that we locked the doors.

To the right and left
of the main door,

they had the little bowl
where you put holy water,

although they were empty.

And, as well as,
they had another bigger bowl

where they did baptisms too,
but that was also empty.

It was a little bit creepy.

I was in the church
playing my videogame.

It's maybe 12:30,
or 1:00 in the morning.

All of the sudden, I hear
like a crunching outside,

like somebody is walking
on the rocks in the courtyard.

So, I was thinking
maybe I'd caught the vandal.

Hello?

Hello?

So, I went outside
and I looked,

and I could still hear it,
but I couldn't see anything.

And I heard it go all
the way around the church.

So I didn't see anything,
and it just stopped.

After it stopped,

I stood there
and listened to see if maybe

whatever was walking
had gone into the woods

or something.

But I didn't hear
anything else after that.

So I went back
to doing what I was doing.

I had to fight with the door
a little bit to get it open.

And I was like "the hell?"

I heard about it
from another guard,

saying they had
the same problem
trying to get the door open.

A couple hours later,
around 3:00 or 04:00,

I heard a woman
crying outside.

I was thinking
like "what? Who?

"Who is out here?"

I didn't think
anybody'd be out this far.

I caught a glimpse of her.

I'd called out
"Ma'am, are you okay?"

and started following her.
I started walking towards her.

I couldn't really see
her face or anything,

all I saw was, like, a dress.

I had almost caught up to her.

But when I got
around the corner,

there was nothing.
She was gone.

The crying had stopped.

The walking sounds stopped.

So, I was like
"All right, she left."

I was, like, weirded out.

And I was really scared.

The next day,
I told Josh about it.

And asked if I still
wanted to go out there,

and I told him
yeah, I had no problem.

He had a few things happen

that he kinda brushed off,

but he said he was fine.

All I had was just footfall
and a woman crying,

but nothing
really bothering me.

I wasn't trying
to prove a point to anybody,

I was just doing
what I normally do.

That second night,
Josh took me out there.

- See you in the morning?
- Yeah.

Hey, are you sure
you're going to be all right?

I'll be good.

He had to go work
after he dropped me off.

So, I went into the church.

Went and sat down on a pew,
like I always do,

and started playing
my hand-held game.

It was about 11:30,
12:00, maybe.

I went to the bathroom.

The lights started going out.

And I was thinking
either the electricity

wasn't working properly
because they're trying

to refurbish it,

and it's just cutting out.

Then, I heard some,
like, scratching sounds

when I shined my flashlight
around the room.

At the same time,
I was hearing

something slapping
the wall behind me.

I kind of looked
over my shoulder,

but I couldn't see anything.

And that kind of
freaked me out.

I started going to the door.

But whatever was there,
it was still
trying to scare me,

because it wouldn't
let me open the door.

The door wouldn't even budge.

It scared me.

Third time I pulled
a little harder than usual.

And it just opened right up.

I was like weirded out,

but I just went back
and sat down in the pew.

Maybe an hour or so later,

I started getting tired.

So I started falling asleep.

It's maybe 02:30,
3:00 in the morning.

And I'm just about
all the way asleep

when I feel
something grab my ankles.

All I could feel
was something dry,

almost like sandpaper.

Like, dry skin.

Let go!

And then, proceeded to try
pulling me under the pew.

I was scared as hell.

Let me go!

Let me go!

It scared
the crap out of me.

Because I didn't know
what was going to happen.

Let go!

If I let it actually
pull me all the way under.

I grabbed the whole
other pew in front of me,

and started to
pull my feet out.

I was doing whatever I can
to pull myself free.

It was really strong.

I didn't know if it was
going to try to kill me

or just trying to hurt me.

But I was not going
to take a chance and find out.

And as I'm trying
to pull myself out,

I could see
out of the corner of my eye,

this big, huge shadowy figure.

And it was, like, it was
standing there laughing.

Like he was enjoying
what it was looking at.

It looked like
it had a robe on it,

and then it looked
like it had the hood

up on the robe as well.

It took me about 15,
20 minutes to get free.

Once I got free, I jumped out

of the pew area
into the aisle.

- Come on!

When I got to the door,
I grabbed the handle

and it felt
like something pushed it.

And it was like,
I was actually pushing

against something.

I just kept pushing
as hard as I could,

and it opened.
Once I got it opened,

I jumped outside pretty much.

I sat there for a minute,
trying to collect myself

because I was breathing hard.

I was scared.
My heart was racing.

I noticed
my ankle was hurting.

And when I looked down,
I had a bruise

like a handprint
around my ankle.

Once I calmed down enough.

Josh, you gotta
come get me now.

I got on the phone with Josh,
told him what happened,

told him to come
and get me right now.

I didn't want to be there.

Now! Come get me.

When I put
Gary out there,

one of my best people
who had been

in all kind of places
where bad things happen,

and he was never rattled
and never had a problem.

Once he went out there
and then it was,

like, he's reporting
the same thing,

that's when we knew
something was wrong.

While I was sitting there,
waiting for Josh

to show up,

I heard people talking.

I couldn't exactly make out
what they were saying.

But I heard a few words
here and there,

and I heard
Spanish being spoken.

It was a scary thought,
just sitting there

and thinking about what
happened while I was inside,

thinking about what's outside,
hearing the voices.

But I just sat there.
Didn't move.

About 5:00 in the morning,

Josh finally showed up.

When I picked him up,
he was frantic.

He just kept telling me
that he had been attacked.

There's nothing you can do,
there's nowhere you can go,

especially for Gary, because
he didn't have a vehicle.

I asked him. I told him
I'm not going back out there,

I don't want
to be there anymore.

For him, it must've
been a living nightmare,

because you can't escape,
you have nowhere to go.

That's the scariest thing
that's ever happened to me

on any job site or any place
that I've ever been.

It still bothers me
talking about it now.

So then it was up to me

or my two partners, one of us
was going to have to do it.

And it ended up falling on me.

And so, I ended up
having to go out there.

It was a spooky place
and I was not looking
forward to my turn.

The first few hours,
nothing was going on.

I sat in my truck
and I just kind of looked

at the building.

But eventually, I had to...
Nature calls,

I had to go inside
and use the bathroom.

I walked into the church.

Hello?

It sounded like footfall,

like maybe several people
walking through the gravel.

Who's there?

I remember hearing somebody
saying...

which is like,
"What's your name?"

And I was like,
"Did I just hear that?"

I was freaked out.

I was thinking, "Man,
maybe my imagination
is running wild,"

because everything that had
going on up to that point

with the other guards,
it was in my mind.

I propped the door open
with this stone,

and went to the bathroom,

and that's when, you know,
things kind of got weird.

And I got kind of panicky.

I heard the stone move,

I was scared.

I was terrified,
because I was trapped

inside this building
with whatever the heck
is in there.

It felt evil and angry.

I heard the stone move,

and I thought,
"How is this possible?

"It's a pretty heavy stone.
There's no way

"unless somebody
moved that stone."

So I started
announcing my presence.

Hello?

Security.

Hello?

Come on.

And I ended up
having to fumble around

in the darkness, which
was terrifying in of itself,

because with my hands out,
I was thinking

that I was going
to touch something.

I was terrified.

It seemed like the longest
20, 30 seconds in my life.

And then it opened
and I was able to walk out.

All I knew is I had
to get out of there.

When I got out of the bathroom

and I walked into the church,

I did hear what I thought
was like people whispering.

And it was
just kind of like a...

You know, like that.

I did take
some Latin in school.

And I'm pretty sure
that's what it was
that I was hearing.

Come on!

So, when I got to the front
door of the church,

obviously it was closed.

And I was
like "Oh God, here we go."

And I'd known
that three or four guys
before me

had already had
this problem with the door.

And I started panicking.

Please, Lord.
Help me through this.

Come on!

It felt like something
was holding the door closed.

And finally,

it popped open
and I was able to walk out.

So, I went back to my truck.

And the truck wouldn't start,

which was
another odd occurrence,

and I thought "This is crazy."

I was stuck.

So, I grabbed a blanket

and I just kind
of covered myself up.

And I was terrified.

I was scared,
I'm not going to lie.

I'm not a... I'm not a wimp
or anything, but I was scared.

It wasn't like "Oh,

"my guards said a bunch
of stuff so now I'm scared."

No, it was... I was
experiencing it full on,

what was going on.

So I just, like, did my best,
tried to block it out.

There's nothing I can do.
I mean, I was completely

I was trapped.

I mean,
it's like you're just stuck
in the middle of the woods.

About 4:00 in the morning.

It looked like a woman with
part of her face, like, gone,

like, missing.

Her flesh had rotted away.

It was horrifying.

And when I looked
in front of me,

there was people standing
in front of my truck.

I was terrified.

I was trying
to start my truck.

I felt like
whatever was there,

it was draining the battery,
preventing me from leaving.

It felt like my body
was really tired.

I felt I was being drained,

that I was being
pulled out of my body.

You know, like, I was
going to be stuck there,

You know?
That's a horrifying thing.

It was the most helpless
I've probably ever felt

in my life.

I just kept praying,
please, you know,

I just wanted
to get out of there.

And, finally.

My truck started,

I think my prayers
were answered.

I drove out.
I'm going to tell you,

it's the longest ride
getting back to the highway

on that dirt road.

My mind was racing
a thousand miles a minute,

like, "What did I just see?"

And there was
no more question
of was I just being paranoid

and scared because of what
the guards had told me? No.

That was absolutely
something there.

He was shaken up,

because like me, he didn't
finish the shift either.

We found out about
the history of the church.

And it was
a Spanish missionary.

And gradually,
the Spaniards abandoned it

and they used
it as a dumping ground

for people with leprosy.

They burned down the church

with the people there.

And anyone who died
before they burned it down,

we believe was buried
on the property itself.

And this incident that
happened to me at this church

was the scariest thing
that has ever happened to me.

It scares me
to talk about it still.

I still feel

almost like I did
when I was there.

This is something that
I wouldn't wish on anybody.

Whether I liked them or not,
I wouldn't wish this

to happen to anybody else.
It was that scary.

What I would
tell somebody

if they were
in that situation,

there's nothing much
you can do but pray.

I mean, that's it.

Pray to your higher
power that...

...you get out okay.

I mean, there was
nothing I could do.

You know, there was no weapon

I was going to be able to use.

In the middle
of thick Texas woods,

ain't nobody going
to hear you scream.

We have this
large creature behind us.

It was almost like something

no longer there

I thought we were going

My name is Christian McCloud,
and I am a history teacher.

Things couldn't have
been stranger that day.

I felt like it was definitely
a life-or-death situation.

My name is Daniel Hurst.

Currently,
I'm a security guard,

but I have a background
in the medical field.

This experience was
the most terrifying

that has happened
to me my entire life.

I'm very
comfortable in the woods.

And that's kind
of very helpful

with my hobby
as a cryptid investigator.

Christian
and I teamed up

about three or four years ago.

And we've been
in the woods ever since.

I had gotten this tip

from a gentleman that had had

odd experiences
in this area
that he hunted in.

He described the feeling
of being watched.

And there's about
a mile square radius

in that area that

they just won't go.

When we
do an investigation,

we research the area,
we have maps.

Three miles?

Due north.

We bring
a lot of trail cams out.

Just things like that, just
anything to record evidence.

There's definitely
a hotbed of paranormal

and cryptid activity here,

if you know where to look.

- Ready?
- Yep.

That whole
investigation
started off really easy.

But things got
very strange very fast.

Whew!

As we're
hiking in, the path,

there was just
tree clutter everywhere.

It looked like chunks
of wood had been
taken out of branches.

A lot of X formations.

So, we took pictures of those.

And we just kept going on.

It's definitely this way.

One of the things
that I noticed immediately

is the complete lack
of animal sign and sound.

Can you hear anything?

You might hear

some birds way off
in the distance,

but nowhere anywhere near.

Nothing.

It's almost
like everything knows

there's an apex predator
in the area,

and it scatters.

And then, I look down
and there's this footprint.

And it's just massive.
It was 21 and a half by 11.

So we started taking
pictures of that.

And then, about 72
inches away from that one,

there's another one.

The further
in the location that we went,

the eerier it felt.

Two or three miles in,
it changes

and there's
these trees come up
and it just gets dark.

There's
a pathway through it,

but it's all grown over.

The light was
completely different,

it was almost dark in there.

As we're going through,

we're hearing something.

And it sounded like
it might have been pacing us,

but we couldn't really tell.

And we finally came out,

and the area
in which we really wanted

to go investigate
was pretty much right there.

It's almost
like a boundary point.

Like you just stepped into
somebody else's living room.

And I started to feel like
something was watching me.

Behind you.

I'm convinced 100%
that was definitely Dogman.

I was terrified.

Terrified, but I was
in fear of my life, too.

Get behind me.

I see a hand,

a massive hand covered
in hair and claws.

And it was almost
like something out

of a horror movie.

Prior to that,
I had always believed Dogman

was just a myth.

I had never, ever in my life
believed that I would ever see

a walking werewolf,
a real-life werewolf.

I mean,
there it is, right there.

Daniel started
moving back behind me.

Back to the tunnel.

So we very slowly went back.

And then...

By that point,
whatever it was, it was gone.

It had disappeared
behind the tree.

We backed up
into that tunnel.

As we were leaving,

I believe it followed us.

We could hear something,
and it was definitely bipedal.

Go.

There's always that fear
that it's going to attack.

It's terrifying,

because you're not sure
if your next step

is going to be your last.

The terror builds
and builds, and builds.

But you know, before
you know it, it can jump

just right through
and then boom.

If it had
decided we, you know,

looked like lunch
or were easy prey,

we're not going
to outrun something like that,

in the woods especially.

When we came out,

that last footstep
in the tunnel is the scariest,

because you don't know
what's on the other side
waiting for you.

At that point,

we started moving
a little more deliberately.

We still had
that sense of being followed.

- Deer kill.

And then,
right across from that.

There was like
this pyramid structure.

That hunting blind
was made by the Dogman.

They were made with
saplings that were bent over,

and you have
various types of vines

and foliage weaved in.

And then, I look over
and there's another one.

That was a kill spot.
They definitely knew

this would be
a place they could hunt.

There was like a huff,
a growl and a bark,

all put together.

All of the sudden,
I hear this...

That sound.

It'll probably stay with me,

probably the rest of my life.

We heard another grunt.

There was
two of them.

I was terrified.

We see, like,
this black flash.

It was, I would say at least
seven to eight feet tall.

A distinct feature I saw
was a shoulder.

We need to get out of here.

All we could do
is just keep going straight.

We didn't want
to go off-trail,

because it would've
been too easy to get lost.

That would not have been
a good place to be at night.

We have this large
creature behind us.

Every once
in a while,

we'd just keep seeing this
black flash between trees.

At one point,

I saw the outline
of that pointed ear,

and I saw that hand
around a tree branch.

And, you know, you start
realizing how small you are.

We both decided it was
time to get out of there.

It paced us
all the way to the car.

We just jumped in
with our backpacks on,

started up the car and just...

Go! Go! Go!

...got on down the road.

We were incredibly relieved.

I'd never been so terrified
in my entire life.

I did not think I was going
to get out of there alive.

I felt like it was definitely
a life-or-death situation.

It's a life-changing
experience,

when you do come face-to-face
with something like that.

It was probably
going to kill us.

At that point, we were no
longer there as investigators.

I thought we were going
to be someone's lunch.
