This planet has been under surveillance for centuries.

HANSEN: ...containing reports of over 10,000 UFO sightings

where a UFO crashed.

about the government's knowledge of UFOs,

and I think we could be on the verge of uncovering

some very big secrets.

NARRATOR: In April 2020, the Pentagon confirmed that the U.S. military

has been encountering unidentified flying objects

in our airspace.

NARRATOR: These craft move in a manner that defies explanation,

demonstrating technology that is light-years beyond ours.

But according to an explosive report

recently published in The New York Times,

it's possible our government has a plan

to back-engineer this technology from recovered alien craft.

In the article, high-ranking members of the U.S. government

admit there was once a covert program that investigated and,

when possible, retrieved the crashed remains

of unidentified flying objects for study.

And it's still happening today.

Astrophysicist Eric W. Davis stated

he briefed the Department of Defense in March 2020

about the recovery of,

"off-world vehicles not made on this Earth."

HANSEN: Over the past 75 years,

there have been numerous UFO crashes where witnesses claim

the government recovered the wreckage

and took it to an unknown destination.

But two stand head-and-shoulders above the rest --

Roswell, 1947, and Kecksburg, 1965.

If I could somehow determine

where the military is taking these UFOs,

that would go a long way in corroborating the Times article.

It could then, in turn, offer definitive proof of alien life.

So I'm on my way to meet someone I think can help me.

NARRATOR: Tom Carey is a former member of the Air Force

who has written numerous books on the Roswell crash of 1947.

He claims the military recovered a UFO

from both Roswell and Kecksburg,

then took them apart to learn how they worked

with the aim of recreating their technology.

According to Tom, this work has been happening

at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for nearly 80 years.

HANSEN: When it comes to Kecksburg -- the same with Roswell --

when something like this happens, a crash retrieval,

where you have alien craft going to

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base --

what happens at Wright-Patterson?

Anything like that would ultimately wind up

in the Foreign Technology Division.

So, that is the housing for receiving

either foreign Yes. or otherworldly objects.

Exactly.

What happens next?

It would be back-engineered.

Reverse engineering

goes all the way back to World War II.

So, they were already in the back-engineering business

by the time of the Roswell crash in 1947.

So, the foreign technology division,

their mission is to accept aircraft

that we've captured or found.

So, take what is already made,

figure out how it works, back-engineer,

and then use that technology, perhaps, for our own benefit.

And they do this with enemy planes

as well as alien spacecraft.

That's it, in a nutshell.

What types of technology do you think have been developed?

Oh, geez, we got transistors from Roswell, Kevlar, lasers,

and they had this so-called memory metal,

that you could wad it up in your hand

and put it over a flat surface

and it would just float out, unfurl itself,

and just go back to its original shape.

But the thing about it was,

you couldn't cut it, scratch it, burn it,

or permanently deform it in any way.

It was indestructible.

Wow. That's incredible.

We had a witness who was involved in that project,

and he said they're trying to back-engineer this memory metal,

which began -- get this -- in 1948.

[ Laughs ] Right after the Roswell crash.

There was nothing on memory-recovery metal

prior to 1948.

NARRATOR: Years later, after contracting work

to the metallurgical company Battelle,

the government announced a scientific breakthrough.

In 1962, they held a press conference

to announce the discovery of this new amalgam called nitinol

And what does Nitinol do?

Nitinol is like the memory metal.

It's the best we could do.

It's not as good as the original.

It's used medically in heart valves.

It's also used in the space program.

Wow.

What about types of aircraft

you think have been developed?

The idea of stealth came from nitinol.

They covered an aircraft in this memory metal,

and it didn't show up on radar.

The U2s, it was the first one,

and the SR-71 Blackbird Stealth.

NARRATOR: During World War II, the Air Force's best craft

was the heavy bomber biplane.

Not long after, the SR-71 Blackbird Stealth

was blasting through the skies.

And everyone else might just look at that

and say, "Well, that's American ingenuity."

NARRATOR: Many believe this unprecedented leap in aerospace technology

was a direct result of the military's efforts

in reverse-engineering alien technology.

They still haven't figured out how the Roswell UFO flew.

Back in the 50s, they tried to create circular craft,

but it was unstable.

It's like a hovercraft, right? A hovercraft. Yes.

There's a lot of reports of a triangular-shaped craft.

I would say, if they're seen in Nevada,

that would be what they're working on now.

But if they're seen in Sheboygan, Wisconsin,

or Bugtussle, Tennessee, it's one of theirs.

Okay. So, it's possible

that a lot of this back-engineered stuff,

maybe we figured out little bits of it,

but that they -- the originators of it --

are still flying around as well.

What about back-engineering?

Do you think that still happens at Wright-Patterson?

No, they're probably not going to Wright-Patterson.

It's a known quantity, now.

NARRATOR: Tom believes that due to leaks

exposing their reverse- engineering efforts,

the military relocated the program

away from Wright-Patterson.

The current location of the military's top-secret

reverse-engineering division is unknown.

But 50 years ago,

it was housed within Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,

and Ben knows someone who worked at the base at the time --

the last surviving member of Project Blue Book,

operative Jennie Zeidman.

I just met with Tom Carey,

who told me the military back-engineers alien craft

at Wright-Pat.

Jennie, do you know of any research

that was being conducted on UFOs during your time there?

Once a week or so,

a man would arrive at the observatory office...

and he would be carrying the cases

that Hynek was supposed to solve.

And I assumed he was from Wright field,

but he was kind of mysterious.

NARRATOR: Jennie had never seen the man before,

so she asked Hynek whether he was Air Force.

And he told me,

"you're not working directly for the Air Force."

He said, "you're working for a contractor."

NARRATOR: For Jennie, the word "contractor" was a red flag.

Why was an outside organization brought in

to investigate the Kecksburg and Roswell UFOs?

Jennie was determined to find out the contractor's name.

Knowing that something was being kept a secret,

I immediately wanted to solve the problem.

NARRATOR: A few days later, the man showed up with new files.

There was Columbus City directory in those days --

you looked up the name, and it says "secretary."

So it says, like, where he works.

And I got out the directory -- Vern Elzy, Battelle.

Battelle is one of the premier

metallurgical research places on the planet.

Battelle is a private corporation Right.

and a government contractor. Right.

So, you think Battelle took

debris and material from Roswell and Kecksburg,

then figure out how this technology works

and develop it into some useful material for the military?

The evidence indicates very strongly that

Battelle analyzed Roswell artifacts.

If, as you're supposing, there were artifacts from Roswell

and they were sent to Battelle,

what do you think the next logical steps would be?

To back-engineering, from which NASA was born, so to speak.

Many ufologists contend the agency was born

out of what was learned from the UFO recovered at Roswell

just nine years earlier.

Battelle's presence at Wright-Patterson suggests

that the reverse-engineering of UFOs was happening there.

But where is the program today?

Is the military still back-engineering UFOs today?

I have no idea. No idea whatsoever.

Mark Magruder's father, Mack,

worked for the Air Force Special Projects Division.

Before he died in 1997,

he told his son everything he saw and did

as a back engineer working with alien craft.

HANSEN: Renowned World War II hero.

Mark, when did you first learn

about this other career life that your father had?

He ended up going to his grave with so much information.

And it turns out,

he was involved the whole time, on his death bed.

My dad said,

"I have carried this terrible secret all my life.

You have no idea what I've seen and done."

In 1947, my dad was invited to Wright-Patterson...

and they went into the hangar,

and inside the hangar, there was this material.

♪♪

It was so strong, but so lightweight.

You mean a kind of metal?

Yes. And they put two and two together,

and they knew there was the Roswell crash.

Wait, wait, wait.

NARRATOR: Jennie Zeidman claimed

a metallurgical company named Battelle

was interested in the Roswell UFO.

Could this be the material they were analyzing?

There's people that would say that this didn't happen,

and I've got the proof that it did.

I have the declassified Air War College study.

Mark, this is April, '48. So, this was just, let's see --

like, what, eight months after the Roswell crash?

Yes.

We have witnesses who saw the Kecksburg debris

being transported to Wright-Patterson,

but with your father's credentials,

and here, physical proof that your father was there...

This is huge.

It verifies that UFO crash material

was at Wright-Patterson from the Roswell debris.

Yeah. That's correct.

So, I can see this was classified at one time.

NARRATOR: The documents Mark inherited from his father

are a treasure trove of information

regarding the activity at Wright-Patterson.

Some are downright shocking.

Wait a second. What is --

"A lecture in room number one --

alien enemy control and related problems."

They labeled this in the agenda,

"Oh, we're gonna talk about alien control today."

And the fact that we can verify --

this is from a Freedom of Information request

directly from the DOD.

Mark, this is just incredible.

It's information that nobody really knew was out there,

and there's some interesting things that are revealed.

Mack finally told his son what he witnessed

on that haunting trip to Wright-Patterson.

They went into the hangar, and inside the hangar was

all of the things that were definitely alien --

you know, not from this world.

What materials, exactly, did he see?

Well, they had really lightweight pieces of beams

that had what looked like hieroglyphics on them.

NARRATOR: The alien material and hieroglyphic etchings

are similar to those described

by the witnesses of the Kecksburg and Roswell crashes,

as well as by abductees

who claim they were taken aboard UFOs.

And your father had no doubt what he was being shown,

that everyone just took matter of fact

that this was extraterrestrial material.

They could easily see that that was a flying saucer wreckage.

They knew it was outside of this world.

Was there anything else that he saw there at the air base?

Well, along with the wreckage, there were bodies.

They were small in stature.

They had long, skinny, little arms

with long, little fingers, not as many as we had.

Clearly, they were not from this world.

Aliens. So, your father told you

that he saw alien bodies at Wright-Patterson?

Yes, aliens.

NARRATOR: And one of them was alive.

Eight months after Roswell,

they had a live extraterrestrial.

What happened? I mean, is it still alive?

The CIA, they were doing all kinds of experiments on it.

My dad could feel the stress that he was in.

that the experiments the military performed

on the captured alien were so extreme,

they eventually killed the extraterrestrial.

They thought that he was communicating

It did bother him. You could see that.

I don't know that I would have the composure

to keep it together.

reverse-engineering work is done today?

No.

World War II hero, very credible.

He wouldn't lie to his kids, especially, you know,

a couple years leading up to his death.

And he discloses to them

that he was part of the back-engineering that happened

at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

He handled the debris. He saw alien bodies.

My late grandfather, Merlin Hansen,

had a very interesting career.

I know he was an engineer for the Air Force,

He told my dad some things about being part of a secret group,

and my grandpa was pretty tight-lipped,

but my dad says that there's some things he told him

right before his passing that I need to hear.

So, I'm hoping he can shed some light on this

and we can kind of put the puzzle together.

Is it possible my own grandfather

was wrapped up in all of this

reverse-engineering and black project stuff?

NARRATOR: While Ben has long known of his grandfather's involvement

in secret military projects,

this is the first time he and his father will talk about it.

I've only got bits and pieces of the story.

So, what exactly was his title?

He was an industrial engineer.

He was involved in logistics and communication systems,

and helping them troubleshoot unusual problems,

and special project work.

And later, we found out, cryogenics.

I know that when you were young,

he said that he was part of a special group.

What was that about?

He said, "Son, I've accepted an assignment with the government

and I'm not going to be accessible to the family,

but there'll be one phone number

that you will have to call and leave a message,

and I'll try to communicate when I can.

What was the first time you realized

that this assignment was taking place?

It started to unfold in '65.

Did he tell you where he was going?

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

NARRATOR: Ben's grandfather was

an industrial engineer and computer scientist

who was sent to Wright-Patterson

to install an early computing system.

Is it possible he saw the reverse engineering

of the Roswell and Kecksburg UFOs firsthand?

Could he have laid eyes

on the supposed extraterrestrial beings?

They've got letters here that I wrote to him,

and I put together a chronology

and confirmed dates that he was gone.

Here are letters to the motor lodge.

So, this is you writing him. Right?

I'd let him know how the family was, how Mom's health was.

I wasn't sure if Grandpa had actually told you

which specific times he was going to Wright-Patterson

or somewhere else, but here we have exact dates.

So, let's look at the timeline that you've put together.

Wait a second.

December 9th and 10th of '65.

That weekend, are you sure about that?

Absolutely positive.

You know what happened December 9th of '65?

Kecksburg, Pennsylvania UFO crash.

NARRATOR: Ben Hansen is investigating what happened to the debris

of the Roswell and Kecksburg UFOs after they crashed.

He is convinced that they were taken

to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and reverse-engineered.

Turns out, Ben's very own grandfather was right there

after the Kecksburg crash of 1965.

So, Grandpa gets a call the night of the crash,

basically, and he's gone the next morning.

Gone the next morning. They came, picked him up.

NARRATOR: Was Ben's own grandfather

part of the secret crash retrieval team?

What are the chances he gets an emergency call that night,

and leaves for several weeks

if it's not related to something this big?

It turns out many of these letters coincide

with the dates of famous UFO incidents.

February 21st of '64, the Socorro, New Mexico, landing.

March of '67, the Malmstrom UFO flyover in Montana.

March of '66, the Dexter, Michigan flap.

Grandma was in the hospital.

Yes. At the time, the doctor said,

"You better get in touch with your dad."

So I called and left a message,

"Please get in touch with me."

So, what you're telling me is when your mom, grandma,

was at the point of death in March of '66,

that he couldn't even come home from what he was doing

to come back to his own wife.

Yeah.

You're talking about somebody who --

on paper, Grandpa is a technical engineer

who maintains the computer systems.

And so, what's happening in Wright-Patterson then,

is something so important that he can't even come back

to take care of Grandma, who's dying.

Yeah. He came home, and I pushed him on what was so important

and he avoided me.

That was it.

I knew that something else had been happening all along,

and I could never get him to talk to me about it

until the night of September 4th, 1996.

We're at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center,

he's dying, and I'm the only one with him.

And then, out of nowhere -- I'm holding his hand,

and he said, "Dave, we're not alone. We're not alone."

And I knew what he was talking about.

I squeezed his hand and I said, "Thanks, Pop."

NARRATOR: Towards the end of his career,

Merlin Hansen moved his family to Utah,

where he worked at another mysterious Air Force base.

He said, "I've got to go do some work

setting up a lab at Dugway."

Dugway Proving Grounds.

Are you sure of that? Absolutely sure.

He said to me one time,

"Don't you ever go out in the West Desert.

There's nothing in the West Desert

that you ever want to play with.

NARRATOR: Dugway Proving Ground

encompasses over 1,250 square miles

in the Great Salt Lake Desert.

The facility's stated purpose

is the engineering of chemical and biological weaponry,

but it's also home to the highest concentration

of UFO sightings in the western United States.

Countless witnesses claim that UFOs originate

from this secluded location in the West Desert.

Wow, this is amazing.

Was the Wright-Patterson reverse-engineering program

relocated to Dugway Proving Ground?

The base is visible from Ben's father's home.

And in 2015, he and Ben's youngest sister

saw something come from the base

that was so technologically advanced,

it did not appear of this world.

You can see Hill Air Force has got their beacon lit already.

So you and Jenny, youngest sister, saw something.

August 2015, this one was.

We just had a rainstorm, and all of a sudden,

there is this orange beam of light

that is shooting up like this for almost 10 seconds.

Because of how far away that is,

it had to have been larger than two semis.

Her and I said, "Whoa, that couldn't be lightning."

You couldn't see the end of it. So, like a laser, would you say?

Like a laser. But before it stopped,

we noticed these blue dots 'round it,

looked like to us, that are dancing around the beam.

But they had to be pretty large, too.

And then, and all of a sudden, at the very top,

there is a -- it looks like a cigar.

Like a cigar-shaped object?

Object, clearly. And then, when the beam died,

they all went up into the cigar-shaped object,

and then disappeared.

Was this beam alien, man-made, or a combination of both?

I have to say, there's something extremely strange

going on over the West Desert,

and I can't help but think

that maybe Grandpa was part of all this.

I feel the same way, son.

HANSEN: For decades, the Dugway Proving Grounds

has been a hot spot of activity

for UFO sightings and conspiracy theories.

In the past couple months,

there's been a lot of video and photo coming out of there

of what looks like exotic spacecraft.

But the question is,

are these UFOs evidence of extraterrestrials,

maybe, you know, monitoring the military base?

Are they a direct threat to us,

or is there really something else going on?

a highly dedicated and knowledgeable ufologist,

and he's recently seen some strange activity around Dugway

that I can't wait to hear about.

Kind of give me an overview of what's happening at Dugway.

I started getting a lot of correspondence

from military contractors and people that worked at Dugway

that have seen weird stuff out there,

and they want to tell their story.

You get enough of these people coming forward,

you start connecting some dots.

So, I've had a lot of people come forward

that have witnessed the triangular UFOs

that do impossible type of maneuvers --

from almost a dead stop to, you know, Mach 3 or something.

I mean, it was fast.

NARRATOR: Witnesses across the country

have been reporting black triangle sightings

since the 1980s.

They are described as large, silent objects

moving slowly at low altitudes, before blasting out of sight.

Could these triangles be aircraft reverse-engineered

from UFOs like the one recovered at Kecksburg?

Do we have things that defy gravity,

that can turn on a dime, that are silent,

that that people describe as, you know, UFOs?

I do believe we have this technology.

I do believe they're testing it.

There's no noise. They're moving in different formations.

They make a line.

The light shifting and moving, not like a flare.

And then you watch it kind of make a line

How odd.

But as strange as Dave's videos are,

His most compelling piece of evidence may be

some photographs he took while surveilling the base.

Back in May of '15,

I was with a girlfriend

and we were in an area we call UFO Camp.

This is on the south end of the range.

We were at this location, and then...

a beam of light shot out.

It was strange, because when we witnessed this,

we could almost smell, like, static electricity. Uh-huh.

Well, you're pretty far away from it, too, aren't you?

Yes, we were miles away from it.

So, here's the first time it fired,

and then the second time it fired,

these blue lights came down.

[ Buzzing ]

and, like, surrounded this beam,

almost like they were watching.

What do you think it is, though?

Do you think this laser thing is ours?

I think this is some kind of offensive weapon.

This is going through the cloud and into space. Uh-huh.

And I think that's what got the attention of these visitors,

and they're coming in and watching our weaponry.

Wow. That's pretty amazing.

Could this incredible light be a weapon of mass destruction

back-engineered from alien technology?

And if so, what do they intend to do with it?

So, where was this? Where were you when you were filming it?

conducted secret chemical weapons tests

and you violated the boundary,

they'll turn you over to the sheriff to be arrested.

So, a little apprehension. We don't want to draw attention.

We just want to come by and see the lookout.

They are now on the south border of Dugway Proving Ground

and can legally be shot on sight if they cross on to the base.

BEN: This is pretty incredible. DAVE: Isn't it?

Okay, right where that peak is?

At the distance you're seeing it,

the diameter of that beam has got to be huge. It was huge.

I mean, this is incredible by itself, whatever it is,

but yet, we have these visitors.

Coming to watch this test.

And as soon as the test was over,

they flew up into space.

What better place than Dugway

to come do a sky watch with night vision equipment?

Being here is just really cool, and taking in the energy here.

You never know.

Might get lucky, see something I can't explain.

I've brought with me

the top-of-the-line military technology,

and night vision and thermal equipment.

When I go do these sky watches, I'm looking for certain things.

We're looking for objects in the sky

that are non-conventional.

And what I mean is, does it act and behave like an aircraft?

A satellite? Does it move erratically?

We might have a satellite. I'm guessing that's what it is.

It's in a straight line right now.

Does it hover? Does it make a sound?

Is it in an airspace that it shouldn't be?

Is it too low?

And I like to kind of, at that point,

bring out the different cameras, because you never know

which one is gonna pick up on that wavelength of light

that's going to record it best.

What I'm gonna do is, I'm gonna switch over

to color night vision. Here we go.

This camera would be able to see it in those different colors.

Okay, it's a plane. [ Chuckles ]

Just kind of looks like a halo,

but you see there's flashing lights with it.

When I see something that I can't explain,

there's a pretty good chance that it's not conventional,

because I've seen all the other stuff.

I'm going to kick this over to black and white.

There's, like, four lights together in some formation.

of the government's reverse-engineering of UFOs

If I pan across here,

there's like four lights together in some formation.

It's completely gone.

Oh, that was weird. That was really weird.

So, as I'm panning across the mountaintop,

I see, like, four points of light,

and they're in a formation,

and they're cruising across the mountain ridge.

It caught me by surprise, and I legitimately was excited

until I tried moving the camera again

and saw that it did it again.

And I'm disappointed, because it was a lens flare of the camera.

But that's why we do this.

You know, we need to make sure that what we're seeing

is truly unexplained.

searching the skies above Dugway.

HANSEN: Oh, I hear something behind them.

Alright, over the top of the mountain...

Just had it, where'd it go?

NARRATOR: ...the Dugway airspace is quiet tonight.

HANSEN: It gets really quiet around here.

NARRATOR: As the sun rises, Ben decides to end his search.

HANSEN: Now, we may not have seen anything unexplained tonight,

but I do feel that we uncovered a lot of compelling evidence

over the course of this investigation.

I find it quite likely the government has

extraterrestrial spacecraft in their possession.

UFO crash material was at Wright-Patterson?

That's correct.

We have recorded testimony that places the Kecksburg Acorn

at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

We have witnesses who were involved

in the reverse-engineering of memory metal.

They covered an aircraft in this memory metal,

and it didn't show up at all on radar.

We have a World War II hero who, on his deathbed,

told his son he saw not only

the debris from the Roswell crash,

but also a live alien.

They were doing all kinds of experiments on him,

and then killed it.

And we have photo evidence of what looks like

an alien weapon being tested at a U.S. military facility.
