highly classified Air Force base

and convinced me we are not
alone in the universe.

Then I had my own encounter
that changed my life forever.

from Project Blue Book...

This planet has been under
surveillance for centuries.

HANSEN: ...containing reports
of over 10,000 UFO sightings

investigated
by the US government.

We could very well be standing
on the exact place

where a UFO crashed.

My mission is
to uncover the truth.

I'm in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania,

southwestern part of the state.

This is the site of
the 1965 alleged UFO crash,

a very strange occurrence
in this small community.

NARRATOR:
The world has been fascinated
by reports of UFO crashes

since the infamous
Roswell incident of 1947.

But a lesser-known UFO crash

has haunted the little town
of Kecksburg, Pennsylvania,

since 1965.

In this tiny town,

locals claim they saw
a fireball tear across the sky

and crash into a wooded hollow
a few miles away.

At the crash site,
witnesses saw

a large, metallic,
acorn-shaped object

bathed in colorful lights.

The military later claimed
it was simply a meteor,

but those who saw it maintain it
was a craft from another world.

Kecksburg was never the same.

It's heavily wooded.
there's very few houses around.

I can imagine
something happening

in the middle of the night.

The whole town's going to know
about it if you see smoke,

and you're going to go
find out what it was.

The fire station, I hear,
has kind of become

the hub of Kecksburg.

There's not really a downtown.

Here's the fire station.

And here is their monument

to the craft they claim
crashed here -- the giant acorn.

Let's take a look at this.

"Kecksburg UFO.
December 9, 1965."

I think this is the same size,

as much as they could
make a replica,

of what they believed it was.

I can see here there's, like,

strange inscriptions and
writings on the side of it.

[ Camera shutter clicks ]

That was reported
by some of the witnesses.

This probably hasn't
changed much since the '60s.

You can tell just by
the age of the homes

and things here in the woods.

It's very possible
that the woods looked

almost exactly the same in 1965.

It's like the whole town
has been frozen in time

since the day of the incident.

NARRATOR: But recently, there
have been new UFO sightings

that are eerily similar to 1965.

And Ben is meeting with the man

who has been investigating
those sightings.

So, the southwestern part
of Pennsylvania

is truly a hotspot, huh?

MARSH: Yes, it's just rampant
in this area.

They appear to be
observing us.

And they've been coming
for decades.

It's never let up.

And the people that are
reporting are very, very scared.

We have a very good witness
who saw something here.

I'd love to hear what
he has to say, 'cause --Sure.

It's an incredible story.

claims to have seen a UFO

that matches the description
of the 1965 Acorn,

just seven miles from where
the Kecksburg UFO

allegedly crashed 55 years ago.

Could the two UFOs be connected?

So, Andrew, Roger tells me you
had a pretty intense experience.

Can you walk me through
what happened that day?

FRICK: Yeah.

I came over to hang out
with my friends.

[ Video game gunfire]

We were here gaming.

All of a sudden, the TV
starts freeze-framing...

[ Static crackles, TV hums ]

...and the picture started
just going berserk.

[ Electricity buzzes ]

[ Glass rattles ]

But eventually, we just
shut the whole thing down.

[ Electricity buzzing ]

♪♪

And we go outside,
and it's so clear out.

♪♪

I pulled out my phone because I
wanted to try and get a picture.

♪♪

And as I pulled my phone out

and I'm panning the sky,
looking for a good area...

...I see this object in the sky.

[ Warbling ]

It was perfectly still.

It hovered in place?

Right.

We were staring at it
for about 40 seconds,

and I remember
these lights appeared on it.

And all of a sudden,

it meandered
for about 10 seconds...

♪♪

...and it took off.

It was gone.

Like, in a blink of an eye.

♪♪

So, how did this end?

You know, we go back inside,
and of course,

the connection
and the TV are fine,

and everything's normal again.

You know, it was just
the craziest thing,

'cause I've never seen
anything like that in the sky...

especially for it
to not make a noise.

No sound whatsoever?

No sound.

Did you try filming it?

Well, I snapped a picture,
but it was just --

Came up just black.Yeah, it was just black.

That's pretty intense,
it happened right here.

What do you think it was?
Do you think it was from here?

After seeing it,
I remember thinking to myself,

"Did that happen?"

It's definitely, definitely

you know, something from
out of this world.

HANSEN:
Andrew's testimony is amazing.

This acorn-shaped craft
silently hovered over them,

disrupted their electronics,
gave off a red glow,

and disappeared in
a fraction of a second.

NARRATOR:
Could this UFO be linked

to the Kecksburg Crash of 1965?

Ben is headed to meet with
a local reporter

who has been documenting
UFO sightings and testimony

for over 50 years.

It's nice to finally
meet you.

Nice meeting you, too.

So, could you kind of just
take me back to that evening?

As there was news breaking

on the radio and TV station
around Pittsburgh

that this brilliant fireball
had been observed...

[ Door creaking ]

...whatever the object was,

it fell into a water ravine
near Kecksburg

here in
Mount Pleasant Township.

The witnesses who
saw the object locally

said it did not come down at
a high rate of speed

like you would have,
for example,

with a reentry
of space debris or meteor --

that it came down almost like
it made a controlled landing.

GORDON: One of the witnesses,
who was a volunteer fireman --

he had been called out to search
for a possible downed aircraft.

♪♪

So he and his few guys
hurried over,

and there was
a little embankment there.

[ Radio chatter ]

And that's when they come across

this large, metallic,
acorn-shaped object

semi-buried in the ground.

He said this was big enough
for a man to stand inside of,

approximately 10 to 12 feet
in length,

about 8 to 10 feet in diameter.

But on the back of the object,

like the back of the acorn,
there were raised-up markings

that looked more like
symbols than writing.

NARRATOR:
According to eyewitnesses,

the symbols were not from
any recognizable human language.

GORDON:
So, as they're down there...

...two men came down
through the woods,

and right behind them
are soldiers.

Looked at the object,
looked at them, and said,

"This area is now quarantined.

You need to
leave here immediately.

[ Laughs ] Wow.

So what happens after

the military pushes
everybody out of there?

Some of the witnesses back then
were young kids or teenagers,

and some of these teenagers
apparently found a way

through some of
the roadblocks.

And one of the witnesses

saw something interesting,
too...

...while they were down there
hiding in the woods.

And I could see his voice
begin to tremble

and he said,
"I swear to God, sir,

there was something
inside of that thing."

[ Growling, clicking ]

Kecksburg, Pennsylvania,

investigating a string
of UFO sightings...

I've never seen anything
like that in the sky.

NARRATOR: ...that have been
plaguing locals

since a UFO crashed
outside the town in 1965.

STRUBLE: It was an orange streak
that cut across the horizon.

NARRATOR: What did witnesses see
in the woods that night?

"There was something
inside of that thing."[ Creature growling, clicking ]

And he goes on to tell me

how a military officer
jumped on top of the object...

...and he struck the object.

And he said moments later,

this hatch opens from
the front of the object.

[ Growling, clicking ]

He said,
"As a matter of seconds,

I can hear metal on metal
hitting, and it closed."

[ Soldiers screaming ]

And they all start
screaming and yelling,

"Hurry up, hurry up!
We don't have much time!"

And that's when they lift it
onto the flatbed truck

and get it out of there.

[ Laughs ] Wow.

NARRATOR: Stan details countless
eyewitness reports to Ben.

A lot of these people
said,

"I would swear under oath
about what we saw."

Nothing supports
the government's claims

that a meteor crashed here
that night,

leading Ben to believe
the truth has been covered up.

In hopes of discovering what
really happened at Kecksburg,

Ben contacts Jennie Zeidman --

the last remaining member of the
top secret government program

Project Blue Book.

Starting in 1952,

Blue Book investigated
thousands of UFO encounters,

and Jenny kept files
on all of them,

including one on
the 1965 Kecksburg incident.

How do you do?

I just met
with Stan Gordon,

who interviewed
hundreds of witnesses.

They claim a UFO
crashed in the woods

and military personnel
carried something away.

of really good stuff
to share with you.

on the investigation

is UFO historian Mark O'Connell.

People just flocked to this
alleged crash site.

the Blue Book file?

Conclusion -- meteor.

So, this is one of
the news reports --

"Officials state
that a meteorite

was probably
the cause of it all,

but the object was traveling
much too slow for a meteorite.

There is also evidence that it
changed course in flight."

witnesses who say

that this slowed down
and then changed direction.

The idea that
this object was a meteor...

that's about as ludicrous
as I've heard.

Jennie, what's
your overall opinion?

Do you think it's possible
the government covered up

a UFO crash in Kecksburg?

Oh, sure. [ Laughs ]

So, why do you think
that the government seems to

still be hiding these close
calls that we've had with UFOs?

Because that shows
our weakness --

that we can't control
or anticipate.

That is going to mean
that we're the victims.

Do you think we should
prepare for the worst, then?

What could we do?

They're so far ahead
of us technologically.

I'll fly really off the handle
and say we're doomed.

But Jennie has a lead

on the truth behind
the Kecksburg incident.

In 1965, Project Blue Book

interviewed
eyewitness Ron Struble

when he was 22 years old.

STRUBLE: It was an orange streak
that cut across the horizon.

It went disappearing
over the mountains.

♪♪

NARRATOR:
And after 55 years, Struble has
agreed to meet with Ben

and lead him to the crash site.

ZEIDMAN:
If one of these objects crashed,
there would be debris on-site.

And we're relatively
close to Pennsylvania,

so I'm going to
head out that way

and start looking into
some of these possible witnesses

that are still around.

And I'd like to go out
to the site myself.

confirmed it was no meteor

that crashed outside Kecksburg
in 1965.

To help Ben expose
the government cover-up,

she connects him with
two eyewitnesses

who claim they saw a UFO
in the woods that night.

when he was interviewed

by investigators
from Project Blue Book.

There was a smoke
going across the horizon,

and then the object crashed
in the Kecksburg area.

Bill Weaver was 19 at the time.

After hearing reports
of the crash on the radio,

he rushed out to the site,

where he saw an eerie blue light
emanating from the woods.

HANSEN: Thank you so much
for meeting me here.

I've heard a lot about

how you can fill in the blanks
of what happened this night.

By the time I got
out to Kecksburg,

the military
was already here.

They had the roads blocked,
and everybody thought it was,

you know,
an airplane or something

that crashed in the area.

We could just look down
in the hole and see, you know,

guys running back and forth
towards the site.

Where were you, and how
did it all start for you?

WEAVER:
I was just out cruising.

There's people standing
alongside the road.

I look down in there,
and I could see

where something had just
plowed into the ground.

[ Soldiers chattering ]

And there was a light
emanating off of that object.

The military's all
over the place.

State police
is all over the place.

[ Guns cocking ]

At this point, too,
there's a big truck pulls in.

There's four guys gets out
of this truck with a box...

[ Growling ]

...but they were
wearing moon suits.

And they carried that thing
down into the woods,

to that object.

MAN: Sir, you're
going to have to leave.

And the men in the dark suits

seemed to have
the power over everybody.

Now, my father was a foreman
on state highways,

and he was always out
checking the roads,

and he watched them
haul that thing out of here.

But he said it was covered
with a tarp.

Trailer truck
with a tarp over it.Yes.

If they weren't expecting

or had a plan
for this sort of thing,

how does a box truck show up

with four military guys
and a crate?

How does that
make you feel,

regardless of what
this was,

that the official
story is

"We didn't
recover anything"?

For years, we've been told
that the military wasn't there.

Well, that's a falsity.

Whatever branch they were,
they were there.

What do you tell people
who believe that official story

and they say, "No, no, no,
the reports that came out

and everything says
the military weren't there,

so you guys are,
in essence, lying"?

What do you
tell those people?

Somebody's not going to tell me
that it didn't happen,

because I was there.

It landed in our little town,
okay, so something happened.

What you haven't really told me
is what you think it is.

I don't know if it's something
out of this world or not.

Makes me wonder.

It could be something alien.

UFO investigator Ben Hansen

is meeting with witnesses
Ron Struble and Bill Weaver,

who claim to have seen a UFO
fly through the sky

and land in the woods outside
Kecksburg, Pennsylvania,

in 1965.

And they believe

the government has been hiding
the truth ever since.

Our government knows.

They won't tell us.

Give us those reports,
nothing blacked out on them.

Tell us what that was.

That's what all of us want,

but I don't know that
that's ever going to happen.

Well, then it's time to hunt
for proof ourselves.

Ron, Jennie Zeidman says

that you know
where the UFO crashed.

ZEIDMAN:
If one of these objects crashed,
there would be debris on-site.

I would love to go
to the crash site.

Do you remember how
to get to that location?

Yes.

Let's do it!

Ron and Bill's description of
the events of December 9, 1965,

leave little doubt as to what
happened in the woods

that fateful night.

Now Ben will attempt to recover

physical evidence
from the crash site

and validate their claims.

If we can pinpoint the exact
location where this happened,

I plan on doing
a basic field survey,

so metal detecting,
Geiger counters,

looking for any effect

this object may have had
on the vegetation,

anything that looks
out of place.

And it's really not implausible

that we would find that
after all these years.

So, Stan Gordon,
a local researcher,

told me that the fireball
came from this direction,

comes over the town, basically,
comes to this point,

and takes a very drastic turn
in the other direction

before it settles
into the ravine.

Most of the witnesses
watched the recovery effort

from this position.

I'm excited
to get down in there.

NARRATOR: Ron Struble will lead
Ben down to the crash site.

HANSEN: Ron, do you want
to lead me down here?

I imagine it would be
quite a recovery effort.

Yeah, it's getting
pretty thick in here.

You see that clearing down
there? That's where we're going.

It's almost just like
I pictured it.

You know, I had in my mind
that night,

what was going on, and...

I pictured military men
with searchlights

and a big excavation

and maybe a little bit of fear,
'cause they're trying

to hurry and scoop this thing up
and take it out.

We could very well be standing
on the exact place

where a UFO crashed in 1965.

What I'm really interested in
is some of these treetops...

...that seem to be kind of
sheared off at the top...

...similar to what the witnesses
described happened,

that some of the trees
were cut off

as the object came through
and kind of crashed in here.

NARRATOR: And from the air,

one can almost make out
an actual crash site.

So, what I'm thinking is

I'm going to do
a baseline EMF reading,

and then I'd like to start with
a sweep of the general area

using the metal detector.

We've also got
ground-penetrating radar.

Charles should be here
in a minute, and he's got

kind of an all-terrain,
ground-penetrating radar

that we can go over the area
and look for anything.

Can you explain to me
exactly how this works

and what we're going
to be doing?

Going to be
scanning the area,

emits its signal down
into the ground,

pops back up
on the screen.

Can go from 6 inches
to 60, 70 feet.

In 1965, witnesses claim

Shortly after, a military crew
descended on the scene

and cleared the site.

55 years later,

investigator Ben Hansen hopes
to find any traces of a UFO

if they did excavatings
and pulled this wreckage out,

if they left some chunk
that got overlooked,

break this case wide open.

This kind of gives you an idea
of how old this trash is --

it's an old Pepsi can
with the tab you pull back.

The markings on the trees
and the damage to the tops,

not to mention
what appears to be

the scars of an old crash site,

could suggest that a huge object

entered from the direction
described by the eyewitnesses.

What came out of the forest
that night in Kecksburg?

And where did it go?

NARRATOR:
While Ben found no conclusive
evidence of a UFO at the site,

the signs of a crash
are still evident to this day.

So to continue
his investigation,

he heads to the Center
for UFO Studies.

I have a number of documents
here to go through and review,

including the Blue Book files.

Hopefully, some of this is going
to shed some light on Kecksburg.

NARRATOR: The Center
for UFO Studies, or CUFOS,

is a collective of ufologists

who share their findings
on the world's UFO sightings.

Their facility contains
all of Jennie Zeidman's

and J. Allen Hynek's
Blue Book files, as well as

countless other exhaustively
documented encounters.

If there is any proof
of a government-backed cover-up

at Kecksburg,
it's within these walls.

The official story on this case
is quite different

than what the witnesses claim.

The witnesses swear that
it wasn't a meteor that landed.

They know for certain,
after 55 years,

they saw things being removed
by the Air Force.

But where?
Where does it go?

NARRATOR: Finally, he uncovers
a significant lead --

a response from NASA to a 2003
Freedom of Information request

for all federal documents

related to the Kecksburg
UFO incident.

This is like a deep rabbit hole,

because there's been multiple
requests made over the years,

but if I'm following
this correctly...

This is pretty big news.

I mean --

Okay, so, Leslie Kean --

she is a well-known
UFO researcher,

and she kind of
spearheaded this --

it looks like in 2003, she made
her main FOIA request.

NARRATOR:
The Freedom of Information Act
requires the release

of previously confidential files

when requested by members
of the public.

She specifically asked
for two boxes

that belong
to the fragology files.

Now, fragology is, like,
the study of fragments --

space fragments, right?

Supposedly, NASA had collected

some metal materials
related to Kecksburg.

Yet, they said,
"Our records indicate

that the boxes were identified
as missing in 1987

and have not been located
since that date."

Things just kind of disappeared.

NARRATOR:
According to the report,

NASA claimed to have lost or
destroyed all evidence

related to the Kecksburg case,

including a box that contained
metal fragments

recovered from the crash site.

Two boxes of material that NASA
supposedly had of the debris

are missing since 1987,

and they have no idea
where they are.

What were these metal fragments
found at the site?

And why was the box
supposedly lost or destroyed?

This M.O., unfortunately,
is played out so many times

when there's something so big
it seems like

the government just does not
want to talk about.

And it makes you wonder
if we can trust anything

when it comes
to the official narrative.

NARRATOR: The files also reveal
the name of an eyewitness

who lived across the street
from the crash site in 1965.

Ben has located him
and set up a meeting.

Yep. [ Laughs ]Ben.

Pleasure to meet you.

So, you kind of had a front-row
seat to the whole event.

Yep, sure did.

So, how old were you
at the time?

I was 10 years old.

Can you tell me what happened
with you that night?

Where were you, and how did
it all start for you?

Well, we was actually outside
in the yard, playing football,

and we walked in the house,

and Mom and Dad was talking
about something crashing.

HAYS: Mom walked over
to the window.

She's looking out the road
across the hill.

♪♪

[ Knock on door ]

And then got
a knock on the door.

♪♪

And then there was
some guys that came in,

and they was in -- they
looked like black suits.

And they wanted the kids
to go to bed

so we wouldn't hear
what was going on.

They used our house phone.

And then I'm watching out
my bedroom window.

NARRATOR: What he saw
in the hours that followed

are forever etched in his mind.

HAYS: Went down it empty.

They come out with something
on the back of it.

And then there was a guy
who was coming through.

They was carrying this box,

and they was in, like, white
moon suits, is what I call them.

Could this be the box that
contained the metal fragments

that were supposedly lost
or destroyed by the government?

those guys after that.

They knew what they was
coming in to do,

and they got it done
and got out of there.

I could see people
walking down across the field.

out of there,

they didn't want people

We just wanted to see

Because we thought

where this thing went
and who was dealing with things

or what it could have been.

And none of these calls
ever showed up on the phone.

The only calls that was on there
is the ones that wemade.

Whatever they
took out of there,

they didn't want
people to know about it.

Could that box have contained
metal fragments from the UFO?

Or something
even more extraordinary --

the remains of its
extraterrestrial pilot?

According to researcher
Stan Gordon,

eyewitnesses alluded
to the possibility

of an alien inside the box.

the Kecksburg case,

and after talking
to all these witnesses

and being out there at the site,
I have a lot of questions.

fill in the blanks for me.

With Kecksburg,

why would the military,
after all these years,

try to keep something
like this under wraps?

And how were they able
to react so quickly

to retrieve the UFO?

The die was cast back in 1947
because of Roswell.

In that famous case,
a craft was uncovered

outside a ranch
in Roswell, New Mexico,

and immediately covered up
by the military.

They came
into possession

of a downed
nuts-and-bolts craft

from somewhere else.

And they chose
to keep it secret.

Unfortunately, such secrets
get a life of their own.

The Air Force will say
that Roswell was a balloon

and that the bodies were
these dime-store mannequins

that people saw from these
high parachute drops.

However, in Kecksburg,

it seems like they had
a very organized response.

The military shows up,
and then within hours,

the thing is loaded up
to the trailer and taken off.

Yes, this is almost
20 years after Roswell,

so they had this
procedure very well-honed

by the time
of Kecksburg.

And what is it?
"Practice makes perfect."

based on witnesses

who got a brief look
at this thing up close.

any other craft that had
sort of this hieroglyphics?

The only craft I can think of
that had symbology

was the Roswell depictions.

So, what would that mean?

You have two
different events

originating
from the same culture.

The next question would be,
okay, where is that?

In this case, it would be
off the planet.

"What was in that box?"

to take out
something from the UFO.

If the box was smaller
than the craft,

that would be perhaps
biological remains,

Perhaps the pilot.

recovered a downed UFO.

where did they take it?

I received a package
at my hotel from Stan Gordon.

He said he uncovered something
explosive I need to hear.

So, while I was busy
trying to find out

where this Kecksburg UFO
was taken,

Stan Gordon was
also busy at work,

and he turned up a recorded
statement from a truck driver

who says he knows
where the craft was taken.

So, let's give this a listen.

NARRATOR: The man on this tape
delivered a shipment of bricks

to Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base

and saw something
he wasn't meant to see.

MAN: They took it from
the back side

of the Wright-Patterson
Air Base

all the way through the main
part of the base,

out the other side.

The spacecraft looked like a...

a large acorn.

It was about 14 feet to the top
and about 10 to 12 feet wide.

It had writing on the collar.

The anonymous truck driver

watched numerous agents load
the craft into a large hangar.

But that wasn't the only
thing he saw.

I also seen an object laying
on the workbench up there.

And it had dark-green
or brownish skin.

Wow!

We have a witness who places
that UFO from Kecksburg

coming through the back gate

at Wright-Patterson
Air Force Base.

This witness's statement
is very key

to the whole Kecksburg story.

And the description
of the object

is very similar
to what the witnesses said.

It's acorn-shaped,

it has strange writing around
the bottom part of it.

The Air Force
picked up this craft,

they take it
to Wright-Patterson,

and then he said he sees a body.

People described seeing
a large box

that was brought into the woods.

And they carried that thing
down in to that object.

It's believed that possibly
a body was recovered,

Whatever
they took out of there,

they didn't want people
to know about it.

But what happened after that
remains to be seen.

recorded account confirms

that the Air Force recovered
both a UFO and an alien body

and took them
to Wright-Patterson.

But now the question is, why?

what happened at Kecksburg

is still a matter
of national security.

After all these decades,
if it was just a meteor,

if it was just
a downed satellite,

we would have come out
and talked about it now.

But we haven't.

Wright-Patterson.

If the truth is out there,
I'm going to find it.
