This water was actually
teeming with gators.

But if there's a

that pushes us to a vital point
to make it through this challenge.

You know, sometimes the hunt is
the glorious thing when you get the kill,

but it's actually kind
of the easiest thing.

The real difficulty
comes in processing.

We're almost ready to start

'cause the boys have been
having quite a menu of food.

bit of what they've been eaten.

That's all the meat

some optimism and feel better.

the fish aren't doing too much.

They're jumping out
there, not over here.

We need to get it right
on the other side of here.

I saw a couple of little mullet.

Like something swimming
by. Like bigger ones.

When you're out
here with nothing,

you really have to become in tune with
your environment more than ever before.

We're team savage, we have
established such a perfect working order

that is very subtle
to this environment,

We're truly
thriving at this point.

We are living out here.

I feel like there's nothing that's
really gonna stop and get in our way.

bit like worrisome.

Like, what is their
social dynamic?

I mean, what are they bringing to
us into our little corner of the swamp,

which is super peaceful
and super successful.

Tonight, our house
is your house.

- I feel terrible.
- We were like, man we don't wanna go there.

- Firewood and stuff.
- You guys are naked family.

- You gotta come spend the night.
- We could squeeze in.

- We'll squeeze in.
- We were gonna light a tree on fire.

of gator skulls,

I see a nutria
pelt, team savage,

and I think we're gonna
fit in very, very well here.

And, uh, obviously, we would never,
ever tell our guests to sleep outside.

So we're gonna be
cuddling, snug as a bug,

and that the adventures
have just begun.

I have so much respect
for all three of these people.

What a blessing. It has
been a long 48 hours.

Uh, we're exhausted.
They got an incredible place.

It just feels so good to be here

- with our naked family, man.

I've been needing something else
to eat other than fish and snakes.

substantial. Today we got it.

When I get a substantial meal in
my stomach, I feel like a million bucks.

I can feel the protein
run through my veins.

I've got a surge of energy.

Like nine days into these

granted, I'm still humble.

Don't know if I'll
finish this challenge,

but it looks promising
is what I'll say.

I'm working on some tail fat.

We need this guy to

So the weather has been
warm in the last couple of days,

so we're processing as fast
as possible so it won't go bad.

I wanna get the

because the brains

just not big enough, so...

and depending on

because there's always been
somebody that's just thought,

You know, "I'll have other
people supporting me."

I know that I was not someone
that sat around, loafing.

I don't need to confront Jeff

for some comments or
mindsets that he's had.

And there were many.

[Jeff] We are not
here to go pig about.

Naked and Afraid XL
is not a welfare program.

If people cannot
get their own food,

then you should not be out here.

[Rylie] It's not something
that sits well with me.

Well, you know, I know...

nobody likes a fisherman that
fishes in another fisherman's pond.

So, we know those
rules and stuff.

Uh, just make sure to tell us if there's
spots that you don't want us to go,

of if you've got stuff,
'cause we're gonna mess up

your... your gig or your vibe.

fit. We all make sense.

I love our dynamic

and I think, also,
that's why we're all

a little bit hesitant, you know,

about merging with
any other people.

Because we have
such a great dynamic,

it's just like... We
don't wanna mess it up!

that just came together.

And I think we
should probably, um,

join resources
and share big wins.

But, I mean, if one of us catches
a 13-inch fish or something

keep it to that group.

I mean, we would have been
chopping the forest for two days

- just to get all these logs and all these palms...

- And all these crossbeams.

[Steven] To cut down
all those big timbers,

use thousands and
thousands of calories.

To be able to just pick it up...

Those are things you
gotta take advantage of

when you're in a
survival situation like this.

We really, really turned
a shelter into a raft.

And then the
raft into a shelter.

I know where these

Inevitable that nutria
are traveling this thing,

every single day.

It's been two days since I
spring snared the second nutria.

I've been lucky with
only setting two snares.

So, maybe I'll get lucky again.

There might be a
third nutria tomorrow.

You just never know what
the day will bring, out here,

in the Atchafalaya basin.

Perfect.

We have a shelter, we know we're
gonna have a roof over our heads.

So, this afternoon, I'm
setting fishing hooks

while Steven's setting
up the alligator hooks.

different lines,

separated by about 75 yards.

Each fishing line
has two hooks on it.

Uh... we're set, baby.

That's a great, great placement.

It's the evening of night 36.

That sounds like a lot of days.

And today was a busy day.

Today was our first full
day, uh, with team savage.

And, uh, I mean, we're
a team. We're a team,

although we're staying
in two separate shelters.

And we're getting along
great, which is fantastic.

I was reflecting how I
performed well last night.

- [Steven] It did. It did.
- Stayed really warm.

[Jeff] Steven and I have
spent really the last week

building a raft,
travelling for two days,

spending a night at creepy camp.

We haven't had
time to focus on food

because we've been
travelling so many miles.

Yeah. Fishing today.

I'm gonna go and collect, buddy.

This morning, my first task
is to check my fishing lines.

And I'm confident that I
could have something.

Today, I am up bright and early.

I am determined to
have a bountiful day,

and I'm going to fish
for my family today.

to a river full of lilies.

One thing I got to do with
all these lilies in the water.

They kind of dragged
my gator bait around.

So, I'm gonna have
to replace my lines.

So that's part of the
routine out here in the bayou.

is there any room to cast

or is it all lilies there too?

be some, like, couple spots.

I mean, it's pretty
saturated right now.

over a thousand years,

the Chitimacha tribe
traveled and fished

throughout the Atchafalaya basin

on handcrafted dugout canoes.

Using primitive tools to
shape and smooth large logs,

they then used
slow, controlled fires

over several days
to hollow out the hull.

Might be able to get
two people in that,

but definitely one.

When I was in the
Florida ranger camp,

we had cypress
all over the place,

and it's a pretty
buoyant piece of wood.

a potential big loss

in regards to us
burning a lot of calories,

but at the same time,
we're set up right now.

We got that big gator kill.

We got a couple
weeks' worth of food,

and I think we can reap
some massive rewards

if we can get this
done properly.

we push it that way first,

and then we'll throw
it back into its position.

and we still got some
big game to harvest.

This is for making
a real solid spear

with the neck knife
arrows that we got.

and add more calories expended.

I mean, I'm five foot 11,

it's about a six and

wood scratched my side.

[Jeff] Matt is, and always
has been, a legend.

Um, but you know what?

I am the only one here that's ever
done a 60-day challenge before.

And I'm out here now
because I wanna be the best.

Of anybody, in this challenge.

Um, I'm gonna go all in.

[Gary coughing]

[Continues coughing]

[Whimpers]

[Sighs] Oh, man.

[Coughing violently]

[Max] Gary's just
looking really rough.

And it's scary to
see Gary at a point

where he doesn't
have much reserves.

[Gary coughing]

[Whimpering]

- What?
- That's not good.

Why?

[Sighs] Pneumonia.

[Max] We were just talking. He
looked great freaking 20 minutes ago.

And it's just this
perpetual ebb and flow

of him feeling okay

and the next thing you know, he's up
in the jaws of freaking... Almost death.

[Coughing]

[EJ] What's going on, dude?

- [Gary] I'm coughing, I'm hot and...
- [EJ] Oh, no.

[Gary] I got the chills and...

I'm coughing hard.

[Coughing]

I can't be like this on this
challenge, man, it's not right.

- [Exhales]
- [EJ] There.

Not one to do that.

And plus, it's getting
to the point, actually,

when now my health is in danger.

[Medic speaking indistinctly]

His vitals are fine but
he's freaking wrecked.

[Medic] It is a mystery of
what is wrong with Gary.

[Shivering]

Gary's vitals have been within
normal limits the entire time.

And we can tell he's in pain.

But otherwise, we can't pinpoint
anything that would be wrong with him.

[EJ] Yeah.

[Gary sighs]

[Gary] I respect the
challenge too much,

and the people that do it.

I can't do it laying
on the ground

having a medic looking
over me, constantly.

And waste away. It's not right.

[Sighs]

I owe it to the
challenge to tap.

- [Medic] Okay. All right then.
- [Sighs]

-[Groans] -[Medic] Let's
get you... let's get you warm.

[Coughing]

[Gary] I'm tapping out of the
challenge because I'm a broken man.

My body is completely
broken down.

I have the chills.

I'm starting to cough a lot.

And I have a pounding
headache that feels like

someone has slammed me
in the face with a two by four.

I love you guys.

I'm sorry I have to go.

[Sobbing]

I can't do it anymore. I'm
wasting away in my shelter.

And losing all hope rapidly.

Atrophying.

I'm sorry, man. [Groans]

I can't do it like this.

I have too much
respect for the challenge.

I would've definitely been
able to make it 60 days,

if I didn't get sick.
I was on a hot one.

I was on a good path.
Everything was going beautiful.

[Sighs]

It doesn't feel good having to
tap out because of this, but...

I'm not gonna sit there and lay there,
while a medic takes care of me constantly

and my team-mates
feed me constantly.

But I absolutely think I'm
worthy of calling myself a legend.

I've pounded many
beats in this world.

The fact that I was here, was
because that I was a legend.

[Max] Pretty, pretty
distraught man.

Taking me a little bit to,

you know, kind of figure
what just freakin' happened.

I need some space to
kind of mull this over.

It's a tough day,
you know? It's...

It's gonna be tough
sledding without my road dog.

It's been an incredible
journey to be with Gary.

We shared a lot of laughs.

We killed two gators together.

You know? So...

That's uh... that's a bond that I'll
remember for the rest of my life.

You know I got
EJ, EJ is the man.

And, you know? I'm just stoked I'm
not by myself and we got each other.

And um, you know...

So now I really gotta make
it to the end just to represent

for Gary and for
Amber. To keep pushing.

immediately to a local hospital

for further tests and treatment.

[Gary speaking]

[Narrator] After two days of
receiving fluids and anti-biotics,

he made a full recovery...

And returned home.

But the exact
cause of his illness

was never determined.
