continue to strategise

on how to grow the football club.

We would like to compete not only
to secure either third or fourth position,

We should have an ambition
and aspiration to be number one.

We want to be a Real Madrid, a Barcelona,

to get ourselves to that point,
we need to spend money.

We've got a chance of winning the first
trophy the club had for over 54 years.

And what I feel, and I know from all
of ownership is how can we be better?

To do that, obviously, it takes resources.

But we have these rules from UEFA
and from the Premier League

that limits the amount we can spend.

Currently in the Premier League,
you're allowed 105 million of losses

over a three-year period.

You can't just put money in.

It's not like, oh, write us a check
for 200 million.

So, how do you spend money?
You need to earn money.

That's the only way to do it.
Grow the commercial side.

Peter's gonna talk
on commercial revenues,

and that's the area we're
really looking to aggressively grow.

You have to build your
commercial revenues like sponsorship

to be able to spend on the club.

Your biggest expenses are your, you know,
your infrastructure build.

I've been here
for four and a half months.

Previous to Newcastle, I was at Arsenal.

- I was chief commercial officer there.

My realisation in the last few months

is we are a long way behind commercially.

Peter Silverstone is tasked
with raising the club's commercial income.

Top of the agenda is finding a company

to sponsor the team's shirt
for next season.

It's a key piece of business that could
be worth tens of millions of pounds.

It takes a lot of time.

So you can see here
we approached 1,193 companies.

Sixty-five held a first meeting,

and there's still nine
current active conversations.

We don't have time to wait.

We have effectively one month
because of the kit production timelines.

Failure to meet these targets

will necessitate a reduction
in player spend.

front-of-shirt sponsor is so key.

The squad needs a lot of investment.

I was growing up, me and all my friends

First time I came to St James' Park
with me dad were late nineties.

I just remember the atmosphere.

seeing how much people loved them.

nothing short of excellent at times today.

I've always been
a dreamer and a believer

that you dream and you can try
and help achieve things.

where you just try and visualise it.

When you're a manager, you think
of the enormity of what you are doing.

You've got huge support,

Growing up in Brazil, you can watch

He relied on fellow Brazilian teammate,
Joelinton, to help him settle in.

In the beginning, it was hard.
I not speak the language.

I couldn't be myself, I couldn't be Bruno.

We’ve got Bruno
in the middle,

he knows exactly what we need!

But the support of the fans
was unbelievable.

Today I feel, the old Bruno
is really here.

Signing for Newcastle I think,
was the best decision in my life. Really.

regularly visits from Brazil

and has also become a fan's favourite.

I think the last game he took
at least a hundred photos.

How does it make you feel
when you see that?

This just makes me happy.
We can feel the love.

It shows how football is for the people.

This is my first full season.

I think we improve a lot.

But the Premier League
is hard, very, very hard.

Newcastle are in fifth place
in the Premier League.

After a flying start to the season,
they now sit outside

the Champions League places
for the first time since October.

To play Champions League, it's my goal.

There's 40 people in the team.

At Arsenal, it was between 150 and 200.

So, we are going to need
to grow massively.

Bigger clubs have bigger teams.

Newcastle's commercial income
is way below the league's highest earners.

The club have received multiple
offers in their search for a company

to sponsor the front of the shirt.

However, they're holding out
for a higher bid.

This is kit shoot for next year.

The deadline to strike a deal
is fast approaching.

As talks continue, the promotional shoot
for next season's kit is going ahead

without a sponsor on the front.

How long
would a shirt deal take?

A year and a half.

How long are you doing
this one in?

Well, it'll be in five months.

Do you like it?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Good for now.

Because of that lack of capacity,

we entrusted Elite Global Marketing
Agency to support us,

but it's been a very difficult process
because it is the most high profile.

Your front-of-shirt sponsor
is your most important deal.

It's the most valuable asset.

On the very front of your shirt,

it's vital to find the right partner
at the right value

and we don't have time to make mistakes.

This front-of-shirt process,
it's been unusual

in that it's been
a really short timeframe.

But even more unusual for me
or nuance for me

is that when Newcastle was taken over,
new rules were brought into place.

Eighteen Premier League clubs have voted
to impose a temporary ban

on any club signing commercial
and sponsorship deals with businesses

which have links to club owners.

Concerns were raised that Newcastle's
new Saudi Arabian owners

could sign lucrative deals with companies
linked to their owners.

Do you think
the rule changes

were because the other teams
viewed you as a threat?

Yes.

If they were
to artificially inflate the value

of any of those sponsorship deals

by doing it through their own companies,

they could then spend
much more money on the squad,

buy many more big players,
and they wouldn't be in breach

of the Premier League's
financial Fair Play rules.

But I was shocked that we could
buy a club, pay a full price,

and then rules just change.

I think that's what pissed me off.

Because we had so little revenue anyway,

that if you're just going
to ban everything...

We were 20th, we had no nothing.

And I was angry then, yeah.

A month later,
the other clubs agreed

to lift the owner-related sponsorship ban,

but put in its place
strict new financial rules.

New regulations
will now require any deal

to be deemed to represent market value,
and not overinflate it.

We've got to remember,
nobody likes competition.

The Champions League places are tight.
There's only four.

The other clubs do everything they can
to make sure

that those Champions League places
are available

to as few people as possible.

One of the agents
involved in the deal

has found another company wanting
to become Newcastle's new shirt sponsor.

We had a great call this morning
with the marketing director.

over a thousand companies,

the club have two deals on the table
and need to make their choice.

From a financial perspective,
the Sela opportunity

is the one that we should progress.

It's a fantastic deal.
They're experienced in sports marketing,

which I think is really important for us.

But it's more about what it's going to do
for our fan growth in Saudi.

The number one sport in Saudi is football.

It's such an important market
to capitalise on.

I want us to be the most followed,
most supported club in Saudi.

I'm really excited about this.
I believe this is the opportunity

we should pursue.

Having a Saudi brand on the shirt
is going to grow that fan base,

more fans, more commercial revenues
which then can be spent on the football.

That's the circle.

We are in great position
with these two offers.

My question is how we can reflect that
potential to go to Champions League

already next year, which would create
a lot of value for them

with some sort of performance bonus.

We have indicated to all of the parties

what our expectation on uplift is
for Champions League.

But I think overall, Sela is definitely
the choice for all of us.

Let's have a look
at how it looks now.

So, this is what's been sent
now, so it looks great.

Financially, it's a big jump

and it's a jump that we needed to make.

The sponsorship,
that's more funds and more revenue for us.

I mean, we have the ingredients
for success.

Because they are related,
can you just tell us

that you feel comfortable,
we can defend our valuation.

We've been really careful
throughout the whole process.

So we brought on CAA,
biggest sponsorship agency in the world

to help us do a robust process.

From my perspective,
this is a fair market value.

In our progression, where we're going,
this is the best deal on the table.
