might commit murder.

Now, sometimes it's as simple

as being under the influence
of drugs or alcohol.

You wake up hungover
in a jail cell the next morning.

The thought hits you
like a kick to the head.

"Maybe I should've skipped
those last shots

before I got behind the wheel."

Then there's personal
satisfaction.

By that I'm talking about

the Bundys and Gacys
in our society.

Serial killers
who derive the purest

of pleasure in watching someone
take their last breath.

Then, of course,
there's self-defense

and the defense of others.

But let's put those aside and
concentrate on a few juicy ones.

One obvious reason
that we might kill

is for financial gain.

Fattening our pockets
by hollowing out our souls.

It's true. People,
money can't buy you love

but it might get you
a life sentence in San Quentin

for trying to take
what isn't yours

by any violent means necessary.

Who are you listening to?

And then
there's the R-word, revenge.

One who seeks retribution
after being wronged,

whether that slight
is real or imagined.

These are the dishes best
served cold by the icy-hearted,

single-minded individuals.

And then we have
our emotional murderers,

the crimes of passion.

Line them up. We have jealousy,

wrath, lust, hatred.

I think we can all agree
we've all experienced

these heated feelings
at some point in our lives,

but how many of us
will actually go

into the world and act on them?

That's kind of the problem,
isn't it?

How can you tell when

-you're in front of someone--

--centimeters away
from a break with reality,

or you're about to be separated

from your money and your life,

or getting the payback sandwich

for something
you don't even remember doing

in the first place?

Sometimes you think

that person
might have one motive

and it turns out to be another.
