While my family was
busy getting ready

to host the most
lavish Thanksgiving
dinner in Philadelphia,

I turned on the TV and
what I saw changed my life.

It was the first year that
the Rockettes ever performed

at the parade,

and I was absolutely
mesmerized.

I wished so badly that
I could be one of them.

I knew my family
would never approve.

- [Lucy] Why not?

- [Grandma Margaret] Well,

my future was already
all mapped out for me,

and it had nothing
to do with dancing.

(gentle music)

- Is that real gold, Mother?

- Oh, don't be
ridiculous, Margaret.
