pretty scary environment.

You never know what's
gonna be out there.

Whoa! A shark right there.

harshest locations,

six pairs of survivalists

took on the most grueling
and intense survival challenge

ever created, and they did
it with absolutely nothing.

No food...

This is what starving
people are going through.

Narrator: ...No water....

You're dehydrated, your
body starts to shut down.

Narrator: ...And no clothes.

I'm trying to keep warm.
That's my biggest issue.

Narrator: Now with exclusive
behind-the-scenes footage,

Luke: Craziest thing was we
did see leopard tracks around us.

We never saw a leopard, but we
knew there was a leopard around.

from each of the extreme
21-day survival challenges,

this is definitely the hardest
thing I've done in my life.

Narrator: This is...

Tom t.: I was really
taken by the country.

It was just awesome
to see these hills,

to not know exactly
where I was gonna end up.

Cambodia really is beautiful.

I absolutely fell in
love with nicaragua.

The country is beautiful.

Dominica was very
green, very lush.

It was gorgeous.

It really appeared
to be paradise.

All right, this is it.
Time to get naked.

Could you turn around?

I wish I could say having
to strip down for the first time

was like ripping a
band-aid off, but it wasn't.

You wanted to just get naked
and start your adventure already.

All right. Let's do it.

It was a little weird just to
kind of have nothing in between

you and another person.

You feel really exposed,
really vulnerable.

Tom t.: In the moment
when you're told,

"okay, it's time to
take off your clothes,"

it becomes a big
deal really quickly.

Hey, I'm tom. Hey, how are you?

Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.

I was hoping for a
young, good-looking guy.

Yeah, this is way awkward.

I don't know what
I was expecting.

Once my clothes were
off, it was really liberating.

And I kind of just combined
the best of both worlds.

It was a naked chick walking
up, and I'm in the woods.

You know, it's like
one of my dreams.

I'm justin. Hi, justin.

You want a hug? Yeah.

He walked around the corner,

and the first thing
out of his mouth is...

I have to introduce you.

That's elroy.

[ laughs ]

I don't really have
names for mine.

We could name them
now. I'm in so much trouble.

You want to name them? No.

His mama did good.

That's too awkward.

She did. He was a polite boy.

Are you sure? I'm good.

You can name them if you want.

No, that's okay. I'll think of
a name. I'm good at names.

[ laughing ] we'll come
up with names later.

You got to give me a
couple days with you.

Narrator: When the survivalists
first begin their adventures,

a sort of honeymoon
period exists.

Day 1 was great, to be honest.

Whoo!

I dare ya.

To jump in.

"naked and afraid" is...

...The best camping trip ever.

[ chuckling ] awesome.

Shellfish.

I'm just way pumped.

Like, everything just looks like

exactly how you
see it in the movies.

Like, I was just like,
"oh, this is easy."

went by the farmers
market, hit the pharmacy.

Now we're going to the well.

All in a day's work. Yeah.

21 days. Piece of cake.

No problem. No problem.

Narrator: But as the days
go by, the hard, cold reality

of surviving for three
weeks in the wild settles in.

We did not sleep in
the shelter. I didn't.

I just slept on those logs
because the shelter was so cold.

The excitement that I
felt was drowned away.

I was beyond dehydrated.

I was sick.

Hang in there, body.

The sun is scorching, you're
sunburnt, you got bug bites.

You know, add some hunger,

add, you know,
fatigue and all that stuff,

and you're pretty pissed off.

I'd have little teeny
bites around my eyes.

Asked luke if my eye
was swollen, and...

It is.

You don't realize
that they're biting you

or where they're biting you.

Yeah, they get me --
they've just been biting me

from here all the way down
this side, all the way down,

and all around my eye.

It's totally swollen shut.

I look like quasimodo.

There wasn't really
that much you could do,

and especially if you're
trying to get any sort of sleep.

Luke had the advantage
'cause he had a full face of hair.

It's looking better.

Still really swollen.

And shut.

Luke: Clearly, the little
black flies are getting to her.

When it's not sunny, you
know, they come out in full force.

So, this is me this morning.

Day 18.

There were occasional moments

when the sun would
shine through the trees

and you'd actually
have a patch of sunlight,

and you sit there and
be like, "oh, I'm warm."

and then the clouds
would come over the sun

and then the rain would come,
and you'd be cold and wet again.

I'm really, really tired.

I'm really cold.

And I just want to get
through the next 12 hours.

Hypothermia kills and, you
know, something very unique

to our situation was
every single night,

if we didn't have
our act together,

we definitely could've
died from hypothermia,

so that was a huge
concern of mine every day.

Lisa: We both
lost a ton of weight,

and we were just
exhausted a lot of the time.

You just sort of
want to sit down

and not really had any desire,
any interest in doing anything.

Tom t.: When you don't
have fat left on your body

and you are
exhausted, that hurts.

The lack of food and the lack
of sleep had also really kicked in.

[ voice breaking ]
today it was hard for me.

I feel really bad
for being here.

It is much more of a nut
kicker than I had anticipated.

Ah, I knew that was coming.

Fun times.

Narrator: Once
in their new home,

the survivalists not only
have to get to know each other,

they also have to meet and
greet the local animal life.

And I hear this thing
come at me from, like,

right around this spot
in the tent, and I look,

and there's a huge
monitor lizard that runs, like,

two inches away
from my shoulder.

Some sort of antelope
just chilling right there.

It scared the crap out of me.

Hey, buddy.

It's okay. It's okay.

Shh.

[ shudders ]

the survivalists quickly learned

that in these harsh
environments,

animal danger was
always a possibility.

Justin: What's that?

My concerns going
into this were wild pigs.

That is the most
terrifying thing for me.

Justin?

Justin disappeared in
the middle of the night,

and I get up to
go looking for him.

[ grunting ] the hell was that?

I hear something
out in the bushes.

Scared the living daylights
out of me, so I started running.

Oh, [bleep]

[ sniffs ]

yeah, something's
been living here.

Is anybody home?

You know, I tend not to
be a very fearful person,

but, I mean, within 20 yards
of where we were sleeping,

we saw leopard tracks.

There's hair in that, so
that's a predator of some kind.

We knew there was
a leopard around,

but we were kind
of ignorant to the fact

of how much she was around,

and we found out later
there was actually --

she had a baby with her.

So we were really lucky.

I'm very grateful towards
that leopard for giving us room.

You know, she
was checking us out,

but once again, not
really bothering us.

Narrator: In "naked and
afraid's" tropical locations,

there is one creature

that strikes more fear
into the survivalists

than any other -- sharks.

I am really worried
about the sharks.

Once they get the scent of
blood, they go into what's known

as a feeding frenzy, and
they just attack each other.

So, multiple times a year, I
do have fears about sharks,

and where I live,
there's great whites,

and here, I am anticipating
maybe, like, some reef sharks.

I know bull sharks are, like,
the most ferocious of them all.

Oh. Check your foot.

You all right? I can feel it.

Wow.

There was worry.

I mean, we'd seen sharks
throughout the adventure.

What is that?

Oh, [bleep]

oh, my god.

Is that a shark?

Wow. Whoa! Shark right there.

I knew that andros and the
bahamas had a lot of sharks.

I'd punch a shark in the
face to get off that island,

so I didn't really care.

[ howls ]

narrator: "naked and
afraid" continues to bare all.

For the ladies right here. 'sup?

Dani: Were you really prepared
coming into this situation?

Justin: If she's got a
problem, then she can have it.

I'm not gonna play that freaking
head game while I'm out here.

Lisa: Let the other
stuff get warm. It'll dry.

It's soaking wet. I'm
not gonna touch it.

I'm sorry. I know
what I'm doing.

Luke: Your body is constantly
screaming at you, "you're dying.

You're dying. You're
dying. Just quit. Just quit."

Sorry. Give me just one second.

Narrator: During the
"naked and afraid" challenge,

if a couple can forge a
good working relationship,

enduring the hardships
of living in the wild

can be much more bearable.

In nicaragua, jaclyn and
adam were a perfect match.

You're -- or I'm eve.

Oh. And I'm adam?

Technically. Sounds good.

Yeah. That works.

Adam: Jaclyn,
she's a beautiful girl.

She's very attractive,

and I wouldn't say it
made it any less awkward,

but I will say the thought,

you know, certainly
crossed my mind, like,

"what am I getting myself into?
I have a girlfriend back home."

I had some anxiety
about that initially.

I present to you myself.

Jessica: Having adam be
naked with another woman

at first was kind of a shock.

I'd never heard of such a thing,
but it didn't really bother me.

I knew he was out
there to survive,

not there for a hookup.

Jaclyn: Adam has a girlfriend,
and we talked about that a lot.

Adam cares about her
and I cared about adam,

but really, it didn't matter.

We had to just do what
we had to do to survive.

[ grunts ] I'm
turning into a weirdo.

Being out in the middle
of nowhere for 21 days

can make you a little weird.

I really want to
do a head stand.

A head stand? Yeah.

I really want to do one, but...

Dehydrated, dizzy, so
let's do a head stand.

...I'm naked.

One day, I felt really good, so
I decided to do a head stand,

and I didn't want this to
be an x-rated head stand.

I need to make a
leaf diaper. [ laughs ]

That's a new one.

What are the images that

So, I found a big ol'
banana leaf and I put it on.

[ laughs ]

this is a banana leaf.

[ laughs ]

[ laughs ]

and I did my head stand,
and it was really satisfying.

Whoo!

Adam: One of the things I really
liked about jaclyn was her attitude.

You know, she was
a very positive girl.

She's got a great
sense of humor.

That's the first sign of
lack of food and dehydration

when you start doing
circus acrobatics

with banana-leaf diapers
in the middle of the jungle.

Well, I'm having fun.

You know, beyond everything
that I was experiencing,

I was still able to have
fun and be myself out there,

and we had so much down
time, and we became weird.

Jaclyn's gonna howl
to her, um...Her animal.

[ howling ]

[ laughs ]

we were disconnected
from everything.

All we had was each other,

and something
that we talked about

at the very beginning
of this challenge

was to always keep
our sense of humor.

This is what we
do in our cave...

[ growls ]

...When we're bored.

Adam: You know, the relationship
with jaclyn and I was -- it was good.

I can't speak for jaclyn, but it
was a very positive experience,

and I would be willing to
bet she would say the same.

Jaclyn: We worked
really well together,

and we were teammates
the whole time,

and I think that's why we'll be
teammates the rest of our lives.

High five.

Good job. We did it.

Carrie: Do your
feet hurt that bad

that you can't [bleep]
walk from here to there?

Like, do I have
to hold your hand?

No, you most definitely do
not have to hold my hand.

You're [bleep] deluded.

Narrator: Unfortunately, for
every strong survival partnership,

there are just as
many contentious ones.

Case in point -- carrie
and tom in cambodia.

We can both be feeding the fire.

Like, it's going out. I
think it's the [bleep] wind.

I think it's kind of got
too much stuff in it.

Me and tom did not
get along very much

during our entire trip.

I feel like you feel like
this is like a competition.

Like, you can say something.

I felt like he wanted
everyone to capture me

not being able to do something,

and it made me feel, like,

kind of stupid and a
little bit embarrassed,

and I just think, at that point,

I was like, "you know
what? I'm over this."

tom t.: I've come to the conclusion
that I can't change my partner.

I've suggested
ways to do things,

and it's always been
met with negativity,

so why keep driving
my head into a wall

if the wall's not
gonna fall down?

I'm just tired.

Right now.

Tom t.: I don't think
I can change her.

Talking to her hasn't helped.

So...

Narrator: As this
unseen footage reveals,

in spite of all their
personality clashes,

carrie and tom did at least
have a few good moments.

I see mine starting to open.

Yeah?

Yeah, that one's
starting to open.

Tom t.: I think carrie and
I always built camaraderie

when we had food.

When we were eating together,

there's nothing like that
to bring a team together.

I'm pretty pumped.

Just for the entire experience.

You know what you'd say if
I ate the whole thing, right?

What? I'm being shellfish.

[ chuckles ] yeah, I went there.

Carrie: Me and tom did have

some little kodak
moments there for a second.

We had caught all these
clams, we're all, like, pumped.

I think we found, like,
what we thought was a fruit.

High five it!

And he is, like, a swimmer,
so he's out there just swimming.

He's like, "come
on, get in the water."

and I'm like, "no, it's cold."

he's like, "get in the
water." I'm like, "no!"

and then finally I just got in,

and we were just kind
of swimming around,

and it was kind of like one
of those human moments

that we had there.

You're alive now, right?

This was definitely one of
those more, like, you know,

like, when you realize
that we're just people.

narrator: In addition to
the severe physical pain

the survivalists
have had to endure,

another emotional pain
has also plagued them --

missing their loved
ones back home.

Lindsey: Physically,
I know I can do this.

I do. I know I can.

It's just the mental part.

I want to be with my babies.

I want to be with my husband.

So, I'm trying to
take it day by day.

Narrator: For every survivor
we see on "naked and afraid,"

there's someone waiting
for them to return home.

Family members
struggle, as well,

missing and worrying
about their loved ones

from halfway across the globe.

When lindsey first told me

she wanted to go
on "naked and afraid,"

I was a little bit hesitant,

but I always told her that if
she wanted to follow her dreams,

I was gonna back her 100%.

I take it you're my partner.

I'm luke. Lindsey.

Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.

How you feeling?

Nervous. Yes.

I'm not a naked person. Are you?

Oh, yeah. I'm a
naked dude, for sure.

Natalie: My initial thought
about luke being on the show

naked with another woman
was, "I hope she's ugly."

[ laughing ] and...

I really just thought it
was more awkward for him.

All right.

Well, let's check
out our bags first.

But I understood, like,
why he would want to do it

because he's great
at that kind of thing.

So, just for future reference,
all these heart-shaped,

like, runners, we
can roast them,

we can even eat them
raw if we're desperate.

Lindsey: Welcome home,
dear. Dinner's on the table.

Whoo-hoo.

[ john chuckles ] I know
she went through a lot,

but I was going through
a lot back here, too, so...

When I would stop
and think about her,

which was quite often,
I was really scared.

I was afraid that she'd
get bit by something.

I was afraid she'd starve and
be sick and be stuck in a hospital.

I have no contact with her. I
have no idea what's going on.

My worries was obviously that
something would happen to him.

I was in contact with someone

and I was allowed to
ask how he was doing,

but they would give
me very minimal details.

Aah!

Bruno!

So, once I got an e-mail
that said he cut his hand,

and that's all I got.

Pretty badly. It's pretty deep.

That's like luke texting
me "car accident."

like, I'm sorry, what
does that mean?

So, I started freaking
out at one point.

Oh, [bleep]

wait, wait. Let me
move this guy. Hold on.

Bruno: You have a deep
-- you have a deep cut.

It's almost up to the bone.

I knew if it was bad enough,

they would tell
me more, I'm sure.

So, we close that wound
with steri-strips now,

so it's actually
nice and closed.

No bleeding, act of bleeding.

Stitches?

John: Lindsey is such
a wonderful woman.

She made a book of a
bunch of family pictures

of me, her, um --

see, I'm [chuckles]
coming to tears right now

just thinking about it,
but she made me a book,

and she hid it in one
of my clothes drawers.

I didn't know what it
was, and I opened it up

'cause it wasn't
supposed to be in there,

and it was all these
pictures of me and her

and all our little adventures
and stuff like that.

I actually bring it to
work with me every day,

and...It was very tough.

So when she was back
here in reality, it was surreal.

Lindsey: Seeing my
kids was amazing.

As soon as my 4 year
old saw me, he said,

"I didn't even
remember your face,"

and it just broke my heart.

[ laughs ]

we spent the whole
weekend just kind of --

every time we'd see each other,

we'd just kind of touch
each other just to go,

"are you really here? Is
this real? Am I dreaming?"

did you miss me?

50? 50 times?

Mm-hmm.

Did you miss me?

I love you a
billion and trillion!

A billion trillion times.

Even me!

Even you? I missed
you guys so much.

They keep saying, "yeah,
you went away for a long time,

and you're never gonna
do that again, mom."

dani: Hell yeah.

I still tried to sit as
modestly as possible,

but luke was truly
balls to the wall.

Narrator: Who a survivalist
is partnered with is key

on "naked and afraid."

in namibia, lindsey and
luke, like jaclyn and adam,

turned out to be a great team.

We have this large, dead,
open tree here. Pretty open.

Lindsey: Yeah, from the
very beginning, luke and I,

it just seemed very natural

that we were kind of old
friends coming together.

We really genuinely
cared for each other,

wanted to see
each other succeed.

Careful. You all right?

And even today, we're
friends, and we keep in touch,

and I can't wait to
get to see him again.

I was gonna say, I'm just, like,

my junk is pointed
right at the cameras.

[ chuckles ]

you know, it's funny to say

I was always modest when
you're completely naked,

but I still tried to sit

as modestly as
possible with my bag,

but luke was truly
balls to the wall.

The men of "naked and afraid."

He would lay down and he
would get these sexy poses,

and he'd be exposed and...

Aah. My one and true love.

The camera guys constantly
had to tell him, you know,

so we don't have to blur
every single scene out.

kind of look like a heart.

Lindsey: Yeah.

Tom m.: Yeah. Today's the
day it's starting to get to me.

I'm wilting away
a little bit. Day 9.

Narrator: Even a solid partnership
can suffer under the constant stress

of hunger and fatigue.

Um...

You know, it comes and it goes.

You hit your highs and lows,
and I'm just at a low right now.

I'm probably hitting the
lower low that I've ever hit.

Lindsey: I think that might've
been day 12 or day 13

that we were so exhausted
that every time we'd stand up,

it felt like you were zeroing
in to blackness, to darkness.

Okay, so, the tadpoles
are in our cup right now.

Hold on.

Sorry. Give me just one second.

I specifically remember
that ending an interview

that I had for that
day, I had to stop.

I almost passed out,
and I had to sit down.

And luke was
exactly the same way.

Luke: That was
definitely my lowest point.

I knew we were gonna make it,

but your body tells
you you're gonna die.

Like, your body is constantly
screaming at you, "you're dying.

"you're dying. You're
dying. Just quit. Just quit.

You go get food. Just be done."

there are a few moments
like that I remember.

It was especially hard

when you're doing
things like interviews,

but at the same time,
you're making a show,

so you got to do
these interviews.

[ sighs ] okay.

Last question? Okay.

[ chuckles ]

[ sighs ]

the tadpoles are
in our cup right now,

and there's a little
bit of water in them.

Narrator: In beautiful
andros, avid hunter justin

quickly became frustrated in
his failure to capture any prey,

even as his partner,
dani, excelled at it.

I got on something over there.

I believe it was a pig.

It was a four-footed
hoofed creature.

Awesome. But there's no way.

Okay.

[ chuckles ]

I do not like sticking
my hand in walls.

Aah!

[ laughs ]

I got a crab!

One crab. Whatever.

Dani: Yes! Justin,
I got a fish! Ha!

I was babysitting a fire,

and she's out there
walking around in the water,

so maybe she got her a fish.

Not bad for a chick
with a pointy stick.

Looks like a fish.

You said you had
primitive hunting skills.

Yes.

I've not seen a lot of that.

Were you really prepared
coming into this situation?

Justin: If she's got a
problem, then she can have it.

I don't give a [bleep]

I'm not gonna play that freaking
head game while I'm out here.

Octopus! Sushi!

Justin did hunt for food.

He...Did his absolute best.

He killed the octopus,
and it was really rad.

I'll get some water. Hell yeah.

Justin: She tried to call me out

on not being a hunter
or something like that.

Once I caught an octopus,
we started getting along great.

All right, you ready?

Don't nail me with

I literally stopped right there!

what's the lady that made

I forgot the name.

Betty ford. Betty ford.

Miss betty ford here just
weaved her a damn bed mat.

narrator: There were also times

when dani and justin became
closer than even they realized.

If you wake up, I'm, like,
rubbing your ass or something --

you probably just
think I'm your wife.

Yeah, my wife's like,

"you know you grabbed
my ass last night?"

I don't know. It's kind of
like it's a comfort thing.

I don't hate you
if that happens.

Elbow me in the
face if you want,

but I did not mean
-- you know me.

I'm too -- I wouldn't do that.

No, I don't think that I
would think that at all.

Dani: When justin says to me,

"I will probably put my hand
on you when I'm sleeping

just because that's
a natural reaction,

that's what I do with my wife,"

and I'm like, "okay, you know,
I believe that. I understand."

like, that's totally fine

as long as it doesn't
get super weird.

We definitely cuddled a lot,

but I don't think that justin
ever touched me inappropriately.

I think there's, like,
certain parts of your butt

that are off limits

and certain parts that
are kind of whatever.

He never went anything
beyond the side of my butt,

which is considered
my hip, to me.

Justin: It did not happen.

I absolutely never touched
dani inappropriately at any time.

There was no
touching of her butt

or any of her private parts.

It did not happen.

Dani: I spotted this cactus.

Where'd you bite it?

I think that being out there
with justin was a great thing.

Yep. I'm not hungry
enough to eat [bleep] yet.

It'll be good for you.

We've remained friends,

and I've made friends
with his wife, as well.

I think that things
worked out really well.

Urchin.

Justin: We got along
great. We were a team.

We did what we had to do,

and we were always helping
each other when it needed.

And it was a really
good partnership.

We did really well together.

Narrator: For most
of the survivalists,

getting through their
adventures in the wild

and coming back
home to loved ones

was the end of their challenge.

But for tom, coming
home from cambodia

was just the beginning of
a new struggle in his life.

Hope my wife knows
that I'm thinking of her, a

nd being able to reach over
and hug someone you love,

haven't been able
to do that in a month.

Never want to take
them for granted again.

He would tell me
how great she was,

how beautiful she was, how
much he's in love with her.

He was how she was,
like, his everything.

You know, my wife is
amazingly supportive.

And so, I was really, really
shocked that he gets home,

and all of a sudden,
they file for divorce.

It happened, actually,
we got back to the hotel,

and I got on face time with her,

and that's when I found out
that was what she wanted.

The fact that this
challenge occurred

at the very end of my marriage

kind of almost
makes it intertwined.

I go into that divorce
knowing at least in its --

the marriage's final moments,

you know, I was still
accomplishing something.

And I use that as a source of
strength going forward for me.

Carrie: It's really her loss.

He just seems like a
really good family guy,

and I respect that about him.

Tom t.: And it kind of does
give me some strength knowing

that in the divorce, at
least I accomplished this.

It feels really good knowing

you lived up to the
expectations people had of you.

I've accomplished
what I set out to do.

Chris and I are probably
getting on one another's nerves.

I can tell that I'm
pissing him off,

and at this point,
I really don't want

to have anything to do with him

because I don't
even want to be seen

next to his [bleep]
ass bow-drill method.

Going pretty good. That's good.

Narrator: The reality
of the extreme situation

they've been thrust into

can test even the
most experienced

survival expert's skills,

but it can also
test their patience

with their partner's abilities.

I've never been

I've done it in the past.

So, I think lisa, right away,
expected that I was gonna be

this typical alpha male,
and she was a little bit bossy.

So, let me make a suggestion.

Yeah?

Instead of pushing
your right hand forward

and hitting the tinder bundle,
pull your left hand back.

Tom and I are both people
with the confidence in ourselves

to say, "hey, I know what to do.

I know how to do this,"
but we have different styles.

It has to catch something else.

Let the other stuff
get warm. It'll dry.

Just soaking wet.

I'm not gonna touch it to that.

I'm sorry. I know
what I'm doing.

Tension built, and eventually,
we finally had that moment

where I was like,
"I am tired enough

that I'm actually gonna
tell you what's going on

and tell you why
I'm frustrated."

I recognize that I
can't match your output.

That's just not the way I work.

And when I say that I
hope that you slow down

because, like you said,

you're gonna burn
yourself out at some point,

and I don't want that to happen.

I'd rather you hang in there.

If we can dissolve the tension,

I just want you to know
I really appreciate you.

I think we're just learning
how to work with each other.

I appreciate it.

As far as conflict
goes, the first few days,

lisa and I butted
heads, but got past it,

and from then on,
we were a good team.

We worked together really well.

I know we only
have 14 hours to go,

but if I see a
turkey, I'm killing it.

After things sort of
settled down a little bit,

we spent a lot of
time working together

and talking to each other,
and that was really nice.

Really take a lifetime
to get in and out of here

and see what the heck
is going on in this forest.

We started to gain a respect
for each other's strong suits.

We did our best to
keep each other up,

and that was a huge
benefit to have in a partner.

Narrator: Like the
unpredictability of the weather

in tropical environments, a
sun-drenched day can turn into

a torrential storm in the
flash of a lightning bolt.

The working relationship
between survival partners

can also implode
very, very quickly.

Corinne and chris were
brought together in dominica.

Corinne: I really liked chris,

especially at the beginning
of our challenge together.

Would you like me
to take the lead?

Sure. Go for it.

You know, chris
is a good partner.

I'm happy he's nice, and
we're working well together.

We're a good team.

[ chuckling ] one
palm frond at a time.

Yeah, right?

He was kind, and
he was a gentleman.

You know, there were many times

where chris would
open up a coconut for me

and I wouldn't even ask him to.

He would just say, "here,
drink some," you know?

And when you're
sleeping next to a stranger,

those are things you
would hope for, and he was.

You know, he was respectful.

It wasn't super awkward.

And, you know, for the first
few days, I actually thought, like,

"this is somebody I would
set up one of my friends with."

I'm building a time machine.

Phew.

[ chuckling ] to
fast-forward for 21 days?

Uh-huh.

I really thought we
were really compatible,

but quickly, I became
really frustrated.

Chris and I are probably
getting on one another's nerves.

I can tell that I'm
pissing him off.

And lay it, like, heavy side up.

Here, just give them to me.

I'll just get your
knife and do it

versus carrying
them all over there.

All right, whatever.

I don't think corinne was
really mentally prepared enough

when she got there, and
she just complained a lot.

Chris does not listen to me

when it comes to
pretty much everything.

We could even
do, like, one more,

'cause this -- well,
look at this side.

It's just a little bit annoying.

I don't know why he
half-asses things --

if he doesn't know
how to do it better

or if he's just in a hurry.

'cause initially, we
were just gonna use this

as a temporary shelter and
find a much more suitable place,

but I think we're good for now.

And at this point,
I really don't want

to have anything to do with him

because I don't
even want to be seen

next to his [bleep]
ass bow-drill method.

This is the last time
you're gonna do this.

I explained to
corinne I'm an adult.

You know, we usually
talk our problems out.

She just told me

that she was not interested
in talking to me anymore,

and just disappeared
into the woods.

Chris is absolutely driving
me insane right now.

I [bleep] hate being
on this island with him.

I want to get the
[bleep] away from him.

It's a respect thing to listen
to what I have to tell you.

Obviously, I've spent

a lot more time in
the field than she has.

Corinne: When I couldn't
communicate with him

and he wasn't helping me in a
way to have us be successful,

it was just very frustrating.

Narrator: There are a lot of things
the survivalists have to worry about

in these harsh environments --

food, water, and there
are many dangers,

but surprisingly,
it's the little things

that can preoccupy
much of their time.

Things like hygiene.

When it comes to hygiene
out there, it's non-existent.

It is so caked on -- that
dirt is not going anywhere.

It's important that you
maintain a good hygiene.

Can't tell where the tan
starts and the dirt stops.

I mean, obviously, you don't
have soap and running water.

I was so dirty
from head to foot.

So, really, I just
had to surrender to it.

Go into this stream
and take a bath.

As far as being stinky
and dirty, oh, well.

[ chuckles ]

I stink.

Hygiene was very
challenging out there.

Wow, I'm dirty.

I think I bitched the most
about hygiene out there.

Preening my hair. There's
no hope for this mop.

From sleeping
so close to the fire,

my hair was covered in ashes.

God, [bleep] smoke.

I thought that it would be a
good idea to dip it in the water

because it was so straw-like

from putting it
in ashes all day,

and now it looks like

I've been dragged
through a thorn bush.

Other than that, I'm,
like, sick of looking like

a [bleep] swamp monster.

Try to get my
hair out of my face.

Next thing I see happening
is it just going up in flames.

Freedom!

Unfortunately, because
the weather was so bad

in the coral reefs,

the boat was unable
to come get me,

so after 21 days of starving,

I had to swim about a mile
and a half out to this boat.

I really need to wash my hair.

It's, like, it's
getting really bad.

It's really hard
for me to describe

what happened to my
hair while I was out there.

It's pretty rank.
Did you touch it?

Feels like a...Broom.

[ laughs ]

a broom?

I'm just kidding. Mine
is probably no better.

It'd probably be pretty
funny if I took it down.

I have, like, a pound
of dirt in my hair,

and it made it into this
moppy afro kind of thing.

What if it just stays?

Yeah, I know.

It doesn't do that --
like, it just stays up there.

[ laughs ]

oh, my gosh.

That's part of the
reason we got along.

We weren't scared
to kind of poke fun

and have some
fun with each other.

It's, like, poufy.

Touch it.

Uh...

Kind of feels like
dried seaweed.

[ laughs ]

dried seaweed?

There's no telling what kind
of critters are living in there.

Justin: It is the middle of
the night, unknown time.

Night 20.

Keep waking up like a
kid on christmas morning.

Or christmas eve
night, I should say.

Narrator: For those who are
able to survive the 21-day ordeal,

the anticipation of the last day

when they would
finally be extracted

from their grueling
environment was very intense.

After going through, you
know, something like that,

on that last day, you
know you're leaving,

nothing can touch your spirits.

So excited. Ready
for it to be over with.

It is the final -- my
final, our final night.

That night right
before I went to bed,

that's when I could
think of my girlfriend,

that's when I could
think of my friends.

And so, that was kind
of a special thing for me.

But it's been a great,
great experience,

and I wouldn't
change it for the world.

Been hard as [bleep]

but I wouldn't
change it for the world.

Whoo.

It's a cold one, definitely.
Definitely a struggle.

Hoping that, you know,
night doesn't get any colder.

Lisa: The lowest moment
was the night before extraction.

It was cold and windy and wet,

and it was just a
really, really long night.

Yeah, things are -- as expected,
things are dismal right now.

It's gonna be a long night.

Jaclyn: Adam.

Good morning.

It's day 21.

Extraction day
was very exciting.

It was absolutely beyond words

how happy adam and
I were during that time.

Super-duper-uber-uber excited.

Dani: I've been up all night.

I've been walking the beach
back and forth and back and forth.

Waiting for our extraction
was like waiting for santa claus.

It really -- that's the best
thing I can compare it to

except for way more intense.

I couldn't wait for
that plane to get there.

[ helicopter blades whirring ]

whoo! Aah!

Tom t.: When the
helicopter arrived...

Freedom!

...It was such joy.

I don't know.

I was exhausted, but I must've
sprinted to that damn thing.

It was just such an
amazing experience

just to know that we
finished, and you know what?

It also felt good to
finish with someone.

Right behind me?
I'm right behind you.

Okay.

The road was just on
the other side of the river,

and the truck came
down and we were, like,

"okay, it's time to go."

and on the other
side of the river

was food and warmth and
back to being warm again.

Whoo! Ha!

We're out of here.

No more parsnips!

[ both chuckle ]

chris: Last day for me
was a pretty exciting day.

I made it to an
extraction beach.

Unfortunately, because
the weather was so bad

in the coral reefs,

the boat was unable
to come get me.

So, after 21 days of starving,

I had to swim about a mile

Man: Chris, you made it.

Where's my [bleep] doritos at?

[ laughter ]

my first meal after extraction,

they'd asked me what I wanted,

so most importantly,
I wanted doritos.

They had that waiting
for me upon extraction.

I made pretty
quick work of that.

These are the best
doritos I've ever had.

Well, I made sure I
told them every day

while we were on location,

while we were actually
doing the challenge

that they better have a
cheeseburger ready for me.

Of all things in cambodia,
I had a cheeseburger.

It wasn't an american
beef, I don't think,

so I didn't like that very much,

but it was still a
cheeseburger, and it was good.

I think I ate two of them.

And french fries.

This might be the
best night of my life.

[ laughter ]

I'm gonna dance my ass off.

Chocolate milk.

Adam: It was an amazing
feeling to come home or get back

and have fruits and chocolate

and, I mean, it
was overwhelming.

This experience did change me.

It changed me
in a positive light.

I feel, you know,
humbled, I feel grateful,

I feel fortunate that I was
selected and able to do it,

and I feel fortunate that I
came out at the other end

happy and healthy.

I think being on "naked and
afraid" made me a better person.

I'm a better mom,
I'm a better wife.

I think everybody should go
through an experience like this

just to reevaluate what it
is that they want out of life.

Justin: It definitely turned
into a spiritual experience

because when
you get low like that,

you know, you got no one else
to lean on, you got no cellphone,

you got nobody to talk to, you
know, you do some praying,

and it makes you
appreciate what you have.

Boy: Daddy!

I missed my son
a lot. I'll be honest.

I really did.

It got worse and worse
until I came to a realization.

I was like, "well,
you know what?

"I've already been this far.

I'll be seeing them
in a couple days."

and that's what kept me going.

Mwah! Aww.

Luke: To me, my three-week
experience, it was definitely spiritual.

Connecting to the earth,
connecting to the animals,

feeling a part of it,

feeling like I'm
living in harmony

with my area around me.

I mean, to me, there's
nothing more spiritual than that.

People ask me, like, "well, what
was it all about? How was it?"

you know, I say hard.

Challenging.
