for my dad.

My dad is Brian Littrell
from the Backstreet Boys.

group from the '90s, I mean.

The Backstreet Boys,
they're not only

the best-selling boy band
of all time,

but they're one of the best-
selling artists of all time.

It didn't really hit me,

the Backstreet Boys and Dad
were as big as they were,

until I was eight years old
at CVS

and I see a bin of 99 cent CDs
and there's "Millennium."

Dad walks over and I was like,
"Is this you?"

And he's like, "I keep trying
to tell you, bud,

we were pretty big
back in the day."

♪ Larger than life ♪

I grew up on the road.

I got to be a rockstar
at three years old.

My first crib was basically
a bunk bed on a tour bus.

I didn't know that
that wasn't normal.

On the road especially,

Dad and I are usually too lazy
to cook on the bus,

so we just go for the cereal.

Solo cup, Cocoa Pebbles,
Horizon milk. There you go.

[upbeat music]

I think one of my favorite
stories is,

I used to always want to be

part of the security team
on the road, always.

And I don't know
how I convinced them

to give me a walkie-talkie.

I would have it on
all the time.

So we'd just be on the bus
and you'd hear, like,

[imitates static crackling]
"Where's Brian and Baylee?

Are they on the bus right now?"

I'm like, "Yep, copy.
Dad's eating cereal.

He's very much enjoying it."

It was so annoying for Dad,
probably, but I loved it.

I thought I was gonna be
a security guard

for the Backstreet Boys.

And they took that thing
from me in about five days.

[laughs]

♪ Looking back on
the things I've done ♪

I kinda look at the guys
as my four uncles.

Fun fact: Kevin's my cousin.

Kevin's actually the reason
Dad is in the Backstreet Boys.

Way back in 1993,
Dad was in school at the time.

Yo, what up?
This is the B-Rokster Brian.

Kevin calls him
and he's like, "Yo, man."

What's up, what's up?
This is Kev.

"I just got into
this boy band.

Now, I want you to come down
and audition."

And Dad was just nervous.

He was gonna go to
Cincinnati Bible College

and his brother said, "Do it."

Dad goes down,
gets in the group,

and the rest is
literally history.

It first blew up in Germany,

then it gets to France,
and then Canada,

and then bled its way down
through the US and New York.

I think that's crazy that
that's just how it works.

The Boys' first time
on "TRL" was 1998.

And that was at the beginning
of the hype of it all.

[cheers and applause]

I haven't seen this one.

[crowd screaming]

and VMA win was 1998.

When they were nominated
for the first time,

that was insane.

when we first started,

to Dad's trophy cabinet.

So these right here

are the Europe Music Awards,

and then, up top,
is the Asia MTV Award.

Do you remember
what you called this

on live television
when you first won it?

This was the first one
right here.

Apparently,
that was his word of choice.

And then you got, like,

The exposure that started
it all.

I've been blessed to have

a super close relationship
with my parents.

The song,
"As Long As You Love Me,"

it means everything
to my parents.

I mean, I can never think
about that song

without thinking about Mom and
Dad meeting for the first time.

Mom and Dad just met
on the set.

And they gave
all the guys headshots

and he stopped on Mom's.

He was like, "I'm gonna marry
that girl one day."

♪ I've tried to hide it
so that no one knows ♪

- I think Mom came up to Dad
and she was like,

"Hi, my name's Leighanne,"
and Dad goes, "I know."

I think Dad said he was like,

"You know, well,
we're pretty big in Europe."

And Mom was like,
"Oh, yeah, me too."

And he's like,
"No, I'm serious."

And she's like,
"Oh, I'm serious too."

And a couple weeks later, like,

they filmed
"Backstreet's Back."

So she got to see that
and she was like, "Uh-oh.

It's about to explode."

He was trying to be all suave

and she was probably thinking,
"Really?"

But I think it worked.

[laughter]
I think it worked.

Finally, I put a wrench in
everything somewhere in there.

I was born November 26th, 2002.

Last night,
Brian and his wife, Leighanne,

became the proud parents

of a six pound, seven ounce
baby boy.

Seriously, been with
you guys my whole life.

Growing up, I played
a billion different sports.

Dad taught me how to
dribble a basketball

at four years old.
I mean, I don't know

if anyone can beat
Dad's competitive spirit.

I can't, and I thought
I was competitive.

What's up?

The Backstreet Boys were
the first band ever

in "TRL" history
to shut down Times Square.

A lot of people hear about it
without seeing it

and I've heard about it
my whole life.

I don't know if you can ever
top this moment.

"Millennium" was the height
of it all.

[crowd screaming]

"TRL," 1999.

It's spring in New York,

the kids in Times Square
are screaming.

Backstreet Boys hit
the primetime.

[crowd screaming]

They literally took control
of New York City.

Since midnight last night,
people have been camping out.

I got to work at 6:15
this morning.

There was already
1,000 people there.

[chuckles]

It's so crazy.

This is overwhelming.
It's amazing.

And we want--we want everybody
in Times Square to know

that the New York
Police Department's

not allowing us
to go to the windows

and wave at everybody
because they're afraid

somebody's gonna get hurt.

Goodness gracious,
shutting down Times Square.

Think about what that would
have to do to your--your mind.

Like, trying to
comprehend that.

Describe today for you guys

and what it must be like
to see, A, the crowd out here

for you guys, and, of course,

the long awaited release
of "Millennium."

It's heart-stopping.

I know what's going through
Dad's mind. Just like...

"Wow."

Never a normal day
in his life again.

It's so special.

For him to be that young

and to reach
that level of success,

I mean, that's everybody's
dream right there.

I think we, the Backstreet
Boys, we have to thank

a big "thank you" to MTV.

MTV catapulted the Boys
to stardom.

When I think of MTV, I think
of the Backstreet Boys.

You can't think of one
without the other.

This is still probably,
to this day,

one of the most significant
moments in history,

definitely for "TRL," MTV.

That's like a golden moment.

Absolute golden moment.

But the Backstreet Boys,

they're still going
really hard.

Still touring as of,
literally--

well, Dad flew in today.

I still see girls cry

20 years later, you know,
25 years later at this point

and, like, it's so crazy

to see just the impact
that they have.

I think Dad has definitely
lit a fire into me

in the midst of, like,

to make a huge impact.

We were on tour
and I was like,

"Can I be like the sixth
Backstreet Boy?"

Dad, he was like, "One day
you're gonna be doing this."

I was about 15.

I went up to Nashville,

I started recording
some songs.

I got to go on tour
with the Backstreet Boys.

Dad and Mom, who both told me,

"You know,
we can only shelter you so much

"and try to take you away from,
you know,

the things you'll experience,
but eventually, you will."

Being able to open
for your dad,

playing 18,000 seat arenas

and then you're making
$5 in tips at a dive bar

in Nashville, you know?

It's been a monumental journey

but I wouldn't have it
any other way.

"Boxes" was, like,
my first breakout song.

yeah, yeah, yeah ♪

So my first EP dropped
September 9th.

So my dad and I
had a afterparty show

at a little speakeasy.

It was a super, just cool,
intimate experience

for the fans to come
and hear some new music.

I feel like when
I'm on stage with him,

there is no nerves.

He's kinda like my armor
in battle there.

It brings us closer
every time we play.

♪ Drink that morning coffee
and make you breakfast in bed ♪

We write together
all the time.

We just wrote a song
a couple weeks ago

that we absolutely
fell in love with.

Sometimes,
we'll be sitting there,

I'll be singing something
and he looks at me

and he's like,
"Wow, you just took me back

to when I was your age."

I was, like, 19 when we did
some of the records.

The number one thing
in our lives is family.

Music comes second...

But family's number one, always.

And that's--that's the legacy.

Rarely do we take things seriously.

Singing in the car is a big
thing for us.

Our sense of humor
is almost identical.

Says "mama," "dada," and
something else I can't say.

I feel like I finally grasped
how famous he was

when we did the Walk of Fame.

How many people showed up
there was just insane.

definitely a wild one.

was probably hilarious to do--

but then also trying to do

I swear, I get, like, the ick
every time I hear this song.

I've heard it so much.

I got pretty intoxicated
at a wedding one time

and I actually did the dance.

One time, I got in trouble.

So I was at Lance's house

when all of his Moon Men were
on, like,

shelves in the bathroom

and I sprayed all the Moon Men

with, like, cleaning product.

I got yelled at for that.

I don't know why
I started cleaning them,

but apparently they were dirty.
I don't know.

This is my master bedroom.

I used to hang off of
the top bars.

This is where the magic
does not happen all the time.

It's not because
we don't want to.

It's just that we have
a five year old daughter

that comes in and goes,
"Mommy, Daddy." [whimpers]

It's true.

My daughter's gonna

There's me.

There's so many frogs
in that slide.

Cut my foot on

I'm a Benihana freak,
so I got a Benihana table.

One time, they made
a mega-pancake on there.

Someone made, like,
a special spatula

to actually flip it over.

But they wanted to make one
the size of the griddle,

which was really cool.

Oh, this was fun, too,
to hang out in.

This is my grotto.

We'd watch TV
and eat ice pops in there.

I think my dad's biggest MTV
moment was the 2013 VMAs.

It's been about 11 years
since the band has

all been together on one stage.

They've been out of the game
for so long.

I was not the downfall
of NSYNC.

I was born on March 23rd, 2001.

A lot of people are like,
"Oh, 2001.

That's kinda like
when they broke up."

I'm like, "No, not my fault.
I promise."

People were going crazy
in the crowd.

It was absolutely nuts.

People had no idea
and it was a huge secret.

You asked for it.

And all of a sudden,
you just see NSYNC on stage

and you're like, "Wait, what?"

♪ ♪

♪ ♪

I couldn't tell anybody.
People were asking.

I'm like, "Oh, no,
my dad's home. Like, whatever."

It was definitely shocking
for a lot of people.

I know even, like, Taylor Swift
freaked out about it.

You could see her face
going like, "Oh, my God!"

So, yeah, it meant a lot
for a lot of people.

The NSYNC days, I don't
really remember, per se.

[laughing]
My mom was pregnant with me.

She was mainly, like,
on tour with them.

So backstage in that sense.

Ever since I saw the VMAs,
I've always wanted to go.

We got in, like,
I think maybe two sets before

they were gonna go.

So seeing, like, him
perform on stage,

I think that was like,
honestly, one of the first

times I got to see him perform
as a group.

Actually seeing it live was
really cool for me, at least.

He was probably exhausted
doing this.

He hadn't done it in so long.

He's gonna tell you it's not
true but it is. [snorts]

I think my family
has definitely left

a musical mark on the world.

Everybody in my family is
pretty much either a musician

or has worked in
the entertainment business.

I do sing
but mainly in the shower.

When I was younger,
I was very interested

in singing and pursuing that

and then I think once I got,
like, sort of a taste of it,

I realized that just kinda
wasn't for me.

I've always, like, been
obsessed with science.

Bit of a nerd
if you can't tell.

I'm pretty much the black sheep
in the family,

going off and doing college.

I go to Michigan State University.

I'm studying to be a doctor.

My dad was, like, pretty proud.

Something my dad
has taught me is,

never trust a fart.
[snickers]

I think, definitely,
my dad has instilled in me,

don't take life too seriously.

As long as you're having fun
with it, like,

then you're living
