But there can be no question of us

abandoning the journey at this stage.

I know we'll be late,

but Scott didn't reach the
pole until the 18th of January.

Sir Edmund Hillary's advice to Dr Fuchs

that he should abandon his
trans-Antarctic crossing

of the South Pole has raised
