- So one thing you'll notice with the stair tool is

that there aren't any railings.

And so with this new stair tool they've separated out

the railings as a different object.

So if you go over to your toolbar you'll have

this railing tool and if we double click on it,

we'll get the settings and similar to kind of the stair tool

there's a lot of different options that you can adjust.

You know, you can adjust the top rail

to some other different profile that you create

and you can also adjust the handrails,

the lower rail and the inner rails

and there's a bunch of different capabilities

so you can make it from built-in panel

to another type of panel and you can also adjust

kind of the width of these,

so if you wanted them to be three feet apart

instead of 42 inches or two feet you can make

those adjustments there.

You can also adjust how the rails

and pickets kind of operate and where those nodes are.

So we'll just leave it on this

and there's a bunch of other different connection options

that you have and again, you can adjust the posts.

So if it's a round post versus a rectangular post

or if it's solid versus hollow

and then you can adjust how the top rail

kind of transitions between other parts of the stair

and how the end functions surface curves down

or if it curves and so we'll just leave it as a straight.

So let's just say okay, and we can place it

but we can also push the space bar

and it gives us this magic wand option

and we can place our railing

and then we can also place it again on this interior

and so just by pushing the space bar,

we've quickly added you know, pretty decent railing system

and since it is parametric we can make adjustments

to it on the fly and let's just change this to four feet.

Actually, I want to change the inner post to four feet

and let's see what that does.

So you can see kind of adjusted the distance between there.

Let's just do that again over here.

Scrolling a little bit to get a better selection of it.

Let's see here maybe at the top it'll be easier okay.

So I have the railing there and then I'm just going to go back

and I'm going to change the inner post distance to four feet

and you can see it's lining up.

So that's a really quick overview of the railing system.

They have separated

from kind of the traditional stair object

and they made it a little bit more adjustable

and a separate component.

So, now the railing can be for stairs

or you can also do railings just on the ground,

if you needed to, definitely adds a lot of options

to your design tools.
