cool tool that ArchiCAD has.

And so let's go up to options,

and let's change our work environment

back to architectural.

And so we get our kind of typical tools back

and let's just go over here,

kind of on the side for now.

And in your toolbox there's the stair tool.

So if you double click on that and you can

11

jump into kind of the settings.

And so the stair is a very intelligent object,

13

it has a lot of different options.

And for a long time with ArchiCAD it was

15

somewhat of a cumbersome tool, but they

16

have made a lot of refinements.

It does provide a lot of capabilities and

18

adjustments that you can make with it.

And so let's just go through some of the options.

So the first option is the ability

21

to link it to a story.

And so with this you can kind of define your stories

23

and then if you adjust the floor to floor height

24

or the distance between different stories,

25

the stair will adjust with that.

And you can give it kind of rules that allow

27

it to function within your kind of code

restrictions or your width or any of the other

29

kind of parametric capabilities within the tool.

And so we have straight risers vs. slanted risers

so we're just going to use straight risers.

And then we're going to lock vs. kind of keeping

a flexible runling, lets just fix it,

and we're going to leave it at 11 inches.

And then, also have the ability to adjust

kind of, the height of the riser and this

37

allows us to keep the riser at a certain height.

You can also adjust kind of the construction

method whether the first part of the stair

40

is built into a slab or if it sits on the slab.

So you can adjust that here, as well as the top,

you can adjust that as well.

And then here is kind of the rules that you

govern the stair with so you

can make it to where it's a

minimum of six inches high

and has a maximum height of seven inches

no matter what happens.

You can also give the run some

customized adjustments as well.

And you can adjust where the walking line is

as well as what the minimum head height is.

And then we can get into

kind of the structure of the stair.

So is it monolithic? Is it kind of a segmented,

or is it more traditional, or is it a completely

monolithic component that touches the ground.

And then we can adjust the materials,

as well as the finish, and then we can

adjust how it looks in the 2D plans

and how it looks in the reflected ceiling plans.

So each of these has some more finite adjustments.

We're just going to kind of leave this at stock right now.

And we're just going to create a stair.

And so with this I can adjust kind of what side

the stair is going to start from and be created

and on the fly I can kind of adjust where that is.

So if it's in the center, or if it's

the left hand side or right hand side.

And so you can see as I kind of drag out

that stair, it's giving me kind of the shadow of

what it needs to be to make it to the second story.

So for instance I can stop it here.

And I just click and over here I have a

little pallet, and this pallet is showing me

kind of the options I have

since I've done once click.

So I would probably like to make a landing

but I could also make it like a winder steps

and then I can also change how many steps between those two.

So I'm just going to make it a landing

and I think I'm going to just kind of,

let's just go away from the building for now.

So I'm going to go out maybe eight feet.

Then I'm going to come back here.

it's going to tell me do you want it to be

So, I can see here that it's created the stair.

It's also giving me the head height of the stair

so I can check for conflicts with the structure.
