1
- All right.
2
Let's switch gears a little bit
3
and let's talk about the shell tool.
4
So if you go to the toolbox, you have the shell tool here.
5
And so if you double click on that
6
you can kind of see what its capabilities are.
7
Again, we have the ability to adjust where that height is
8
so that base of that shell is going to be
9
and a shell is really just a more complex
10
kind of roof structure,
11
but it can also represent other types of elements.
12
So you can have a dome,
13
you can have a multi pitched shell
14
and you can also do like a rotated shell
15
and you can start to create different elements
16
that you wouldn't normally be able to create
17
with the roof tool alone.
18
So let's quickly look at this and just put it on the roof.
19
And so I'm going to leave all these settings
20
pretty much the same
21
and we're just going to create a simple barrel roof.
22
Let's do that on the side here.
23
So first I click,
24
and this is going to tell me how long the roof is
25
and then this will create the barrel.
26
So looks pretty simple in floor plan.
27
And now, if we look at this in 3D
28
we can see that it's created a pretty long barrel roof.
29
And what I can do here is I can adjust how high
30
that top of that barrel is.
31
And so I can reduce it down.
32
And then if I wanted to make it a composite
33
I could do that as well.
34
And I could start to make it maybe like a shingled roof
35
and you could see that it's a shingled roof
36
and it has some thickness to it.
37
And I want to show you one other thing that you can do
38
with these shell tool.
39
So you can do a revolved shell
40
and you can actually give it kind of a complex shape here.
41
So, you could use this to create
42
a little bit more complex of shapes.
43
I'm going to make it a little bit rounder there
44
and I'm going to double click to finish.
45
And then the next click is going to give me
46
kind of the overall shape that.
47
And so it's a little bit off of the ankle
48
but you can see what's going to happen.
49
So it's asking me how much of a revolution do I want?
50
So I'm just going to go 360 for this
51
and just show you what the capabilities are here.
52
So I'm just going to select that.
53
And then I'm going to view that in 3D
54
and just view, everything.
55
So you can see that
56
this is going to get a little bit more complex of a shape.
57
This can work in both plan view, and you can also
58
create this shape in cross-section or elevation view.
59
And so we can also change that rotation.
60
So it's back 180
61
or whatever kind of rotation we're looking at.
62
So I just changed the revolution there.
63
And so now that is at 180 degrees.
64
And so you could see there's a lot
65
of possibilities with this tool.
66
I definitely recommend familiarizing yourself
67
with it and playing around with it so you can get
68
a little bit more understanding of its capabilities.
