I paired EJ and Michael B. because they're my two big,

rangy, dramatic singers who can do it all.

Niall: First of all, it's great to have EJ on Team Niall.

That was a hell of a steal.

He really changed it up this week,

something I'm excited to see

'cause half the reason why I got him on my team

was for his stage presence,

and I feel like this song you need it.

EJ: My band is Foreign Figures.

Being the front man in the beginning was terrifying.

But then I got more confidence to be like,

"I deserve to be right here in the spotlight."

but "The Voice" is my first opportunity

to really take my solo career step forward.

The performance side of it, you've definitely got that.

What's a way that you get into emotion in the storytelling?

I see it in my mind.

Whatever the story is, like, if it's "Fancy,"

I'm in that old house walking to the car.

My mom's giving me away

because she can't afford to feed me anymore.

Every lyric, it's either this or it's like [growls]

Yeah. If I have that story,

whatever comes out of my mouth, hopefully you will feel that

because it was so intensely felt by me.

That's great advice.

If you're not feeling it,

how are you gonna make anyone else feel it?

That advice really just flipped the switch and I was like,

"I will remember that forever. I will never forget this moment."

So what have you picked to sing today?

"When You're Gone" by Shawn Mendes.

And I chose this one because it's up-tempo,

but it still has kind of a grieving message.

I'm not necessarily grieving a relationship right now,

but I totally am familiar with the feeling.

I've been in relationships

that I thought were gonna be end all, be all,

and I definitely immediately think of those relationships

when I do sing this song.

But right now, I am beyond grateful.

I met my boyfriend, Tevin, two and a half years ago.

We clicked right away.

We live together, and I mean, he's my best friend

in the whole wide world.

Niall: Michael is a pop singer

with unbelievable drama to his voice

and can really sell a song, so this is gonna be exciting.

He gets to show off all the different parts of his range,

which is super important when you've got two minutes to show what you can do.

It is. That's a lot of words.

A ton of words. Yeah.

I got a little emotional at the end, so it got sloppy, but...

I'll take sloppy and emotion over hitting every note

because I could feel it.

Honestly, you'd rather hear pitch and slop

than something, someone that doesn't mean it.

That was great.

I think there's too much low octave.

in one move, and you haven't had time to ramp up to that.

I get all psyched up there.

How do you do a quick reset that's like...you got it?

What I do is I touch my thumb and my forefinger.

Whenever I hit a high note, that says,

It's that positive thinking.

Okay. Y-You're kind of tricking your subconscious

because your subconscious drives the boat.

I'm gonna do this the whole song. Yeah.

That's a low note, I don't care. I'm doing this.

Seeing Michael B. perform just made me a little nervous

in a sense of like,

"Man, the competition is so hot this season."

I'm like, "I gotta step up my game if I want to go forward."

but it felt like the soul that I am attracted to

and what you -- what you do -- The ache.

Yeah, that wasn't there in the beginning,

but then towards the end, you kind of just, like,

let loose and the crowd got into it,

everybody started standing up and cheering.

And you're like that dude that's sitting next to me in school,

and then you have this, like, powerhouse voice.

That alone is, like, captivating.

Chance: So you're living in Nashville? Reba: Yeah.

Were you raised there, or you moved there when -- Oklahoma.

Okay. My great-grandmother's from Tulsa,

but I've never made it there.

We grew up on a working cattle ranch,

bought cattle in the spring, sold them in the fall

after we fattened them up for feeder cattle.

That's crazy. I didn't even think about it,

that there's cows that are bred

specifically to get ate versus to produce... Yeah.

...produce. Milk or, yeah, produce. There you go.

I'm really excited for these -- for these next two.

I got Magnus and Jamar.

Jamar is soulful. He's got a blues influence.

He plays guitar, like, he's a little bit older,

so he's got this old soul thing going for him.

Magnus in the same way, he's a younger guy,

but he's got a '70s soul,

Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway feel to him. Ooh, cool.

I want you to see 'em. Magnus, Jamar.

She's definitely a legend in the game.

I'm singing John Legend, "Ordinary People."

Wonderful. That's the first song I learned how to play on piano.

That's funny. It was one of my firsts, too. No kidding.

I feel like young Black kids around our age,

like, when this song came out, it changed the game. It did.

I'm a gospel soul singer. John is such a beast.

Oh, wow. Magnus: He's been a light for my life.

A lot of his songs are really inspirational for me.

The journey for me, pursuing music has been up and down.

I've definitely had to do some odd jobs,

such as being a delivery driver,

but I have my own personal concert in my car,

so it's like while I'm delivering,

I'm still practicing in my craft every day.

When you started, it was so rich and thick with your --

your voice, your vocal. Thank you.

And then when you hit that high note,

I think with, like, people of distinct tones like John Legend,

like, you being able to put your spin on it

and also all your choices and runs that you choose

to make it your own song is super important.

Reba: Magnus did a great job of selecting that song.

He had me right there.

And he looked at Chance and me while he was singing

because he was telling us about this and we believed him.

You feel so comfortable, too. Your voice is so smooth.

You ever see those chocolate commercials on television

and it's like a river of chocolate? Just lay in that chocolate...

That was just so smooth and just flowing like a river.

Yeah, keep doing the same thing.

Jamar: Magnus, we're brothers, but we're gonna fight.

I want to go to playoffs badly.

I'm quiet, but I'm a competitor.

Yep. Smokey Robinson.

That's my favorite, my mom's favorite.

I mean, Smokey's been in our household for longer than me.

This song actually represents my genre to a T.

I'm all about telling love stories.

When I perform this song,

I'm definitely going to be thinking about my wife.

She is so amazing.

It's a perfect example of how I feel every day. I feel love.

And I chose this song because I want to show the coaches

that I'm the person that they would want to take to the playoffs.

but it seemed like the band was loud

all the way through at one level.

Yeah. Maybe put some dynamics in it.

'Cause at the beginning, it's real intimate.

I mean, we could certainly do that.

I think for anything, just to catch the tempo,

even if it's a count-in from rhythm,

like just so that he knows what BPM you guys are playing at

then he could play and then you guys could join him.

Messes things up a little bit. Yeah, jumbles it.

Chance: Jamar is a cold dude, man. He's an instrumentalist.

He's somebody that has a deep sense

of knowledge of himself.

One of my favorite things is when Jamar goes up

into that higher octave

and really sings in his head voice.

It's very flowy, angelic feel to it.

Lots better. Amazing.

I really love your natural tone,

and when you go into a space of feeling out a song... Yes, exactly.

...that's what, like, gives life to it

and makes, you know, your ears perk up and stuff,

so I would just say keep leaning into that.

I just feel like it's maybe hard for you

not to sound like an imitation of what he does.

I'm gonna lean more towards Jamar

just because I couldn't get

the John Legend thing out of my head.

But you're incredible.

You just have a thing when you're doing it

I may lean towards Magnus just because

his voice is just huge, and I like how he gets out here

When I think about the idea of "The Voice" as like,

it's not about what you see on stage,

but really what you can hear.

And Magnus has such like a specific identity

as a vocalist that I love.

And then, Jamar, you have the same thing

in, like, a completely different wheelhouse.

You were, like, wrestling with that song,

not like you didn't know it.

Just like, okay, this is what I'm gonna do.

I'm having a very tough time making this decision,

as you could tell.

Daly: It's an impossible decision, but it is time.

I've been singing this since I could sing.

She is just this amazing, strong woman

who has literally done it all.

She has inspired me a lot.

I am a songwriter in Nashville.

Being younger, there was a lot of doubt just in, like,

is this the right decision to make,

especially moving and having your family go with you.

We were traveling back and forth,

Detroit to Nashville, Detroit to Nashville.

So, I graduated high school,

and then my family, we packed up,

and my parents came to help support and everything.

Kinda sounds familiar, making those trips.

Except my family never moved there with me. Mine, neither.

They were like, "Hey, good luck out there."

My parents mean the world to me.

We are just so glad that you are following your dreams.

Everything they've sacrificed for me,

I just want to make sure it's all worth it.

So, I put my all into it every time.

This gives Grace a chance to be playful

I've been working as a musician in St. Louis

Being here and all the performances so far

have pushed me to be a better performer.

especially coming out of the battles.

When I first heard Jerome, I was fascinated

by the roundness of his voice.

I have had the opportunity to be on.

Tapping into the vulnerable side has been a challenge,

but I've had a couple of heartbreaks,

so I have to break down the lyrics

and decipher what they mean to me.

When you're technically as good as you are,

I think there's a lot of concentration

that goes on notes.

The next progression for the coming days

is making sure that the emotion is attached

to the technical singing.

This is a song that comes from the pit of your stomach,

so I need Jerome to really sell that story

to the people at home, because if he does,

he's gonna set living rooms on fire all across America.
