1

- [Instructor] All right, well in the last lesson,

2

we talked about the trace reference.

3

And I placed some walls.

4

But you know what I'm going to do,

5

I'm going to delete these walls.

6

You can put the walls in.

7

That's definitely an approved method.

8

But what we're going to do is

9

we're going to talk about the fill tool.

10

And so if we double click on that, it gives us some options.

11

And so what I like to do is

12

I will have something like a 50%,

13

and maybe something that I can see pretty well

14

or is distinct.

15

So let's make it blue, 'cause we have our background.

16

Let's make it blue, and let's also,

17

we're going to have it transparent.

18

And then we have a solid line

19

representing the outline of the fill.

20

And also with fills,

21

you have the ability to adjust how the fill itself works.

22

So if we were to use a vectorial fill,

23

like a block or something of that nature,

24

we can adjust the fill origin and direction.

25

We can also affect the scale as well as the origin location.

26

We can give it an ID.

27

So why don't we use the block fill type,

28

and then let's use a drafting fill.

29

So there's four different fill types.

30

So you can have your cover fill, drafting fill,

31

a cut fill, as well as a cut fill for building materials.

32

So let's just use the drafting fill.

33

And let's put this on a different layer.

34

Let's make this annotation,

35

how 'about an existing plan two-dimensional annotation.

36

So one thing I'm going to do is,

37

because this trace is a little bit off,

38

I am going to rotate it a little bit.

39

So if I go over to the trace reference pallet

40

and click on rotate reference,

41

I'm going to click on this top edge of the building.

42

And let me zoom in to make sure I'm grabbing it right.

43

So I'm not totally grabbing it.

44

So I'm going to do it again and grab it.

45

I'm going to go to the bottom part of that building

46

and click a second time.

47

And now I'm going to push shift

48

and I'm going to lock it in a vertical 90 degree orientation.

49

Even when I've done those two operations,

50

my fill tool is still selected.

51

I still have it as the block concrete,

52

so I'm not having to go back and select that again.

53

And so there's couple of different construction methods.

54

You can have a polygon, you can have just a rectangle,

55

or you can have a rotated rectangle.

56

So I'm just going to use the polygon method.

57

And I'm going to click on here.

58

And I am going to select this point and this point...

59

And like that.

60

So now I can clearly see the outline of the building.

61

And one other method is

62

this is probably a fill that came from AutoCAD.

63

And so what I can try to do is, if I push the space button,

64

it gives me this magic wand tool.

65

And the magic wand tool basically

66

will either try to fill out an interior

67

of multiple different line segments or a fill itself.

68

So you can either click inside

69

and you can kind of see where it's going to go.

70

And I'm just holding the space bar.

71

Or I can try to click on the line itself.

72

And since there's intersecting lines in here,

73

it's going to be a little bit difficult

74

for me to capture the interior of that sidewalk.

75

So let's just do polygon again.

76

And then I'm going to just choose a concrete.

77

So I'm going to scroll down.

78

And so we'll just use concrete site work.

79

And I'm going to change the pen for that

80

so that it's just a little bit lighter.

81

And so I'm going to go to, like, a pen 66 for now.

82

And what I'm going to do is

83

I'm just going to follow the edges and/or the nodes

84

and try to get around this as quickly as possible.

85

And so, there's a little jog in that sidewalk.

86

And then we can go over and select that.

87

So, one other modeling technique that I'm using

88

that I might not have explained completely

89

is I'm using my scroll button to zoom in and out.

90

And then I'm also using my scroll button,

91

and I hold it down,

92

and it gives me the ability to move the drawing or pan.

93

And so while I'm doing that,

94

as long as I don't click too many points

95

or click the wrong button,

96

then I can quickly just keep walking this fill around.

97

But say I made a mistake.

98

I was a little bit too quick or something happened.

99

I can just push the delete button

100

and I can go back a node,

101

or whatever I just recently clicked,

102

without losing the work that I've already done.

103

So if I click, I can click here,

104

and I'm clicking on the nodes,

105

I can undo by just delete.

106

And then I can reposition myself and go back.

107

And then finally I can click and I've closed that fill.

108

So fills are very useful,

109

and they allow you to quickly lay out information

110

without having to necessarily get stuck

111

in an operation that you feel cumbersome in.

112

Explore the fill tool.

113

And we'll definitely be talking more about that

114

later in the course.
