a lot of different options

for connecting various different data types

to the file itself.

So let's jump into this.

So if we go to file and we're going to look

at interoperability.

So interoperability provides the option to merge files.

So if we click on this merge,

we can merge various different file types.

So DWGs different ArchiCad files or image files

and that will allow us to bring in files

and all of their relevant information into ArchiCad

and it's a little bit different than if we were using

the file external content and the way it's different is

16

that when you merge the file using the interoperability

17

and merge file, it embeds all the content into that file

18

and it no longer is linked to the host file.

And so if you're using the external content,

you have the ability to update these files as they progress

and change.

So we also have IFC, so let's go to the first floor plan

and if we go to interoperability, IFC, we have the ability

24

to merge IFC models.

We can also detect changes with IFC models.

So if you have a consultant that is making changes

for instance, like a structural engineer,

you could leave a file in a folder and you could replace it

and you could visualize the changes that they made

as you're progressing through the project.

You also have translators.

So if we click on translators, these are the translators

that come with the ArchiCad standard template.

And within these different translators

we have different applications that we could translate from

and they're optimized for those different applications.

So for instance, Tekla or Revit

and then you also have Revit MEP and Skier.

And so if you click on one of these

let's just look at Tekla.

So it gives you some options of how you want

that information to be translated.

So you could do construction elements only,

you could do all 3D elements.

So there are a variety of ways

that you can translate IFC files.

And so let's go back to file interoperability

and then we also have the ability to bring in 3D S files

and translate those into GDL,

and GDL is the Geometric Descriptive Language

which is the backbone of ArchiCad.

And then we also have a blue beam connection.

So if you are using blue beam you can have a circular kind

of connection between a blue beam file as well as ArchiCad.

And then you can also import point clouds.

So let's click on this.

So if you're working with a surveyor

or someone who's using a laser scanning device,

you can bring in an e57 file or an XYZ file

and then that will translate into Archicad as a point cloud

and let's look at a couple other ones.

And then you can also bring in a mesh

from a surveyor's point data.

So this is helpful if you are working with a surveyor

who'll provide you with certain information.

So if you have a text file or an XYZ file,

you can bring that in and it'll convert the information

into a mesh or a 3D element that has a surface to it.

So in reality there's a lot of different ways

that you're able to bring in fast amount of information

from different authors into ArchiCad in a seamless way.

I think Graphisoft has done a really good job

of trying to provide as many avenues to their users

to bring in different information.

So, I would recommend playing around

with some of the different file types and bringing 'em in

and quickly you'll see the power of how ArchiCad translates
