- [Instructor] So here we are, ready to start a project.

Now, how do most projects start?

They might start with a sketch,

they might start with a scan of a floor plan,

or they might start with DWGs that might exist.

So what I like to do,

is I like to go to Worksheets in the navigator,

and I'll just right click

and create a new independent worksheet.

And so let's make this E-101,

and it'll be the existing first floor plan.

Why don't we just make it existing floor plans?

And we'll create it.

Now we have a blank sheet,

and so let's bring in some information.

So we go to File, External Content,

and we'll place an external drawing.

And so I'm going to place a PDF,

so I select this PDF,

and now I have all of these different options

of files to be brought in from an external source,

so PDF is one of the options,

and I'm going to say Open.

And so I'll place that,

and now it came in a little bit skewed,

so I'm going to rotate it and just grab an edge,

and let's rotate it,

and let's move it into place.

So there I have, a existing condition drawing

for a project that I've been working on,

and let's just check one thing.

So I'm going to work in a real scale,

so this is four and a half feet.

So if I push the M button, I can measure that.

Let's see how close it comes to.

So it looks like it's a little big.

It actually looks like it's twice as big,

so I'm going to change the scale.

So I need to have it selected,

so I'm going to go to Edit, Reshape,

and then I'm going to go to Resize.

So my shortcut command for that is Cmd + K,

and so I'm going to resize it,

and I'm going to define it graphically,

or I can define it by percentage.

So either way, but let's define it graphically.

So the first point I pick is

where I'm going to scale it from,

and the second point I pick is

what I'm using to scale it to.

So if this is where I want to scale it, I'll just click,

and now what I'll do is I'll push Tab,

and I'll put 4.5, which is four feet six inches,

and I'll just push Enter.

And now I can go back down and zoom in a little bit,

and I'll push my M button and I can measure it.

So it looks like it's still a little big,

but let's see how close it is.

So it looks about right,

and I can also look at this drawing

and see what scale it came in.

So it's showing a 51%.

Let's just try 50%.

And yeah, so that looks like it's about right.

So now, that is the beginning of the drawing phase,

and so what I can also do, let's just do another one.

So I'm going to bring in some more external content

by going to File, External Content, Place External Drawing,

I'm going to use a DWG this time.

And this is a DWG I created for another project,

and I'm going to use the scale value

of one inch to one inch,

and let's just place this a little bit further down.

And it's asking me for a simple shx file,

which is not that important, so I'm just going to skip that,

and there is a drawing that I've already created.

And so bringing in external content,

it keeps it as a drawing,

and so it's not necessarily all the pieces

that are in there, but they are all selectable.

I can alternatively take this,

and I can explode it and watch what that does.

So I'm going to keep the original,

and you have a few options.

You can import embedded layers,

or you can use the drawings layer.

So I'm going to use drawing layer, I'm going to explode it,

and then I'm going to just take the original and move it over

so you can see it a little bit better.

And now, you can see that there's fills and lines,

and everything looks like it would from a DWG.

So that is how you can bring in drawings

and start to begin your project.
