In the Name of God, the most gracious, the most Merciful.
From Muhammad, the Messenger of God, to Heraclius, the emperor of Byzantium.
Peace be upon those who follow righteous guidance.
To proceed, I bid you heed the divine call to Islam.
Accept Islam for your salvation, and God will give you your reward twofold.
If you turn away, you will bear the sin of the Arians.
To Al-Muqawqis, Patriarch of the Copts.
From Muhammad, the Messenger of God,
to Kisra, the great leader of the Persians.
Accept Islam for your salvation and God will give you your reward twofold.
If you refuse to accept Islam, you will be responsible for the sins of the Magi.
You come out of the desert smelling of camel and goat
to tell the great leader of the Persians to whom he should kneel?
Who gave you this authority?
God sent Muhammad as a mercy to mankind.

AL RESALA: STORY OF ISLAM
The Scholars of Islam, The University of Al-Azhar in Cairo
and The Supreme Islamic Shia Council in Lebanon
have approved the accuracy and fidelity of this film.
In the Name of God, the most gracious, the most Merciful.
Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain you would have seen it humble itself
and split asunder for fear of God. God Almighty has spoken the Truth.
The Prophet, a representative elected by God
to carry what the mountains cannot carry,
is too great and inaccessible to be represented by another human being.
Therefore, neither his image nor his voice nor his shadow
will be depicted in this movie.
In the 6th century, when the world was sunk in darkness,
Muhammad ibn Abdullah was born in Mecca.
Mecca was then a rich trading city, ruled by its merchants,
and housed the idols worshipped by Arabs.
Every year, during the sacred months, the tribes suspended their conflicts
and their convoys would travel safely, with their priests carrying offerings
to the idols of these gods, arranged around the Kaaba.
The Kaaba was built by the prophet Abraham for pilgrims who believed in God.
It held 360 different gods, the number of the Arab tribes.
Mecca was controlled by the Quraysh,
including Banu Abd-al-Dar, a group of wealthy merchants,
who had monopolized the keeping of idols to promote their trade during festivals,
and also Banu Hashim Clan, Muhammad's grandfather,
who used to accommodate pilgrims during their stay in Mecca.
Lord Umaya.
Bilal!
-That's not enough. -How is that possible?
I have already paid back more than my debt.
I have been paying you money for five years.
Don't you understand? The interest on your debt has multiplied it.
Is he yours?
I need him to work my land.
He is all I own now.
The donkey isn't worth half the amount you owe me.
-I meant the boy. -My son?
-How do you find the market today, Umaya? -It is not yet clear,
as caravans are still arriving,
but this year, the gods are gold.
When you combine the gods and trade together,
our profit will be great, Abu Sufian.
I see the caravan from Syria is here.
-It's ahead of schedule. -Put five more men on the north wells.
How many sheep should I kill for them? Seventy?
Give them a hundred. Mecca must maintain its reputation for hospitality.
And ten lambs for the leaders!
Who was it that taught people
that money praises them when they waste it,
and saving it is an abusive action?
And who is more courageous and generous...
than Abu Sufian when people are in need of help?
Here he is, the son of Harb. Your caravans can go where they please thanks to him,
and when he commands it, they find great generosity in these lands.
He holds poetry in the highest regard,
and spends freely on it, without question.
From the silkworms of China, my lady.
Soft to the touch.
A pleasure to the eye.
Yes, seven meters.
Twenty dinars.
-And for Abu Sufian's wife? -You set the price you prefer, my lady.
Fifteen.
These are worthy offerings as the gods must have their share,
as a pledge to their immortality.
Who is that man standing there, Abu Lahab?
Take me away from here. He has stripped me of everything.
Why must Muhammad come down here?
What has come over my nephew?
Why don't you stop him?
-Maybe he will change. -Change at 40 years of age?
It's unnatural for a man of his age to hide away, shivering in a cave,
to prefer the bare mountain to a soft, warm bed!
As the husband of a wealthy woman like Khadija,
he could afford the very best things in Mecca.
For a man who dares to risk the anger of Al-Uzza,
Manat, the god of our prosperity,
Al-Lat, the god of our family and tribe,
and Hubal...
Hubal, upon whom our fate depends, and who takes care of our caravans.
The man puts himself in great danger.
To renounce the gods within earshot of this place is dangerous.
-Heresy. -Apostasy! Rebellion!
I'm afraid Muhammad will harm himself.
I am always sad when the great fair is over.
I might not live to see the next one.
Abu Talib! Abu Talib! Abu Talib!
-Abu Talib! -Catch your breath, Zaid!
Has Muhammad come down from the Cave of Hira yet?
No, we haven't seen him yet.
Khadija hoped he might have come to you on his way home.
-Perhaps he is at Abu Bakr's house. -No, I've already checked.
-Then he's still up there. -For three days?
He's been there a long while this time.
I'm afraid for him on the mountain...
because I don't know what it means.
Men see the world too well from the top of a mountain.
Read!
Read, in the Name of thy Lord who created man from a clot of blood.
Read, and thy Lord is the most Gracious who taught man to write with the pen.
Who taught man what he knew not.
He's still trembling under the blanket.
The Revelation weighs heavily on him. He can barely raise his hand.
He shivers constantly, though beads of sweat roll down his forehead.
-But he has spoken. -Zaid?
What has happened to my nephew Muhammad?
He was meditating in the cave alone.
An angel appeared to him and said... "Read!"
Muhammad replied, "I cannot read."
The angel said again to Muhammad,
"Read!"
Muhammad replied, "What shall I read?"
The Angel of Revelation then said...
"Read, in the Name of thy Lord who created man from a clot of blood.
Read, and thy Lord is the most Gracious who taught man to write with the pen.
Who taught man what he knew not."
and Muhammad read
as if the Ayat had been written on his heart.
-Gabriel then left him. -Gabriel?
When Muhammad was coming out of the cave
he heard a voice coming from the sky which said,
"Muhammad, you are the Messenger of God,
and I am Gabriel."
Muhammad returned home and told Khadija what he had seen,
and she said to him,
"Have hope and hold on to that,
because I swear by the one who has power over my heart,
that I hope you are the Prophet sent to this nation."
Who else knows about this, Zaid?
The first to know were Khadija, Ali and Abu Bakr.
And you.
I am his adopted son.
Be careful to whom you talk to in Mecca.
Tell him that the uncle who protected him when he was a child...
will never abandon him.
Why has Muhammad called his tribe together?
I don't know, I'm here to find out.
The cave, the angel... This is a heresy.
-What's Abu Sufian's opinion? -He says it is Banu Hashim's affair.
How can they say it's heresy when there are precedents?
In Mecca, it's new.
But God has spoken similarly to Noah, Moses, Jesus, and the other Prophets.
-Who could that be, Musab? -It's Jafar.
What have you brought?
This is a Surah from the Qur'an.
"In the name of God, the most gracious, the most Merciful.
When the sun is overthrown, and when the stars fall,
when the mountains are removed,
when the pregnant she-camels are abandoned,
when the wild beasts are herded together,
when the seas are filled with flames,
and when all souls are paired,
when the female infant who is buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed,
and when the scrolls of deeds are laid open,
when the sky is stripped away,
when Hellfire is set ablaze,
and when Paradise is brought near,
every soul will know what it has brought.
God Almighty has spoken the truth."
Jafar, were you there when God gave him these words?
He trembled under his blanket...
clenching his teeth.
He tried to stop shivering.
Finally, he awoke and spoke.
Dawn is near.
Ammar, you go out first.
Ammar!
Where were you? You kept your mother awake all night worrying.
Where were you?
Forgive him, it was my fault, I did it.
That God has protected us our whole lives.
But it could not even protect itself.
It is shameful to worship such a thing.
The True God is One who sees all
while being Himself unseen.
Ammar, we see the gods in the Kaaba every day.
Ammar, I'm afraid for you.
You're listening to people who will bring you harm.
I'm listening to Muhammad, Mother.
Muhammad? All of Mecca testifies to his honesty and trustworthiness.
He is generous. He gives, he shares.
He greets everyone he meets kindly.
But I cannot accept him offending the gods.
The gods? What kind of gods accept that a person should starve to death?
That the rich should exploit the poor? That the strong should oppress the weak?
What kind of gods authorize fathers killing their daughters without reason?
What kind of gods prohibit women from choosing their husbands freely,
and tolerate them being forced to live a life worse than death?
Your mother was not forced to do anything
Yes, but you know that you and I very nearly never met, Yasser.
And you were very nearly never born, Ammar.
My father was about to bury me alive,
just as he'd buried my sister before me. But he couldn't do it.
He remembered when he was putting sand over her
how she had taken hold of his finger
and suckled it as though it were her mother's bosom.
Her tender little grip...
I think it was tender.
My father's momentary weakness saved my life.
Sumayyah, it is the custom.
No, it is a sin, Yasser.
The gods that allow such things to happen are not gods.
I must return to the Messenger's house.
All right, my son. Go to Muhammad.
He is a blessed man.
Two men are following him.
Read? Read? Muhammad can neither write nor read.
-But he can speak. -What?
He can speak? Well, I can also speak.
What does Muhammad say?
He only says what is revealed to him as God's words.
What words? Which god?
A talking god?
Muhammad is delusional.
When God reveals His message to him he remembers every word.
Then he dictates it to those who can write.
The words of God remain unchanged. This is the Qur'an.
Muhammad has starved himself into dreaming.
Didn't you say that he hides under his blanket with his eyes shut?
True, but his heart is open.
You! Kick him for his alleged eloquence.
No. There is no purpose in that.
Doesn't Muhammad realize that our lives depend on the gods of the Kaaba?
We own the Kaaba.
Every year, the caravans come here, worship at the Kaaba and buy our goods.
This isn't as simple as you might imagine, boy.
How can we to replace 300 gods with one single God, one we cannot even see?
You say that He is everywhere.
He's here in my house, in Taif, Yathrib, Yemen, on the moon!
If that were true, why would the pilgrims bother coming to Mecca
when they could worship the one God who is everywhere anywhere they wished?
The gods of Quraysh are for meant for worship and for trade.
You cannot buy and sell God!
The whip will correct your attitude.
Be careful, young man.
I have a question.
I heard that this illiterate man teaches you that a slave is equal to his master.
So, this black Bilal who I was able to buy is equal to me?
Yes! He is a human being.
The Messenger of God says that all men are equal, just like the teeth of a comb.
This heresy will be popular amongst the slaves.
It'll give them false hope of liberation.
Bilal!
Teach this man the difference between a Master of Mecca and a lowly slave.
Give him the whip.
Lash him in a way that will teach his mouth a lesson.
Whip him, Bilal!
-Whip him! -Kill him!
Whip him!
Do as he says. Do it, Bilal!
Do it and save your life.
See the anarchy they bring to Mecca! They've even infected our slaves!
If you're human enough to have gods, they are the gods of your masters!
Your body and soul has belonged to me ever since I bought you, Bilal
You will be corrected!
One... one God. There is only one God!
-Who is stronger now? -One... God.
-Tell me! -One God.
Your master, or this one God of yours?
One God.
There is only one God.
One... God.
One God!
There is only one God.
-One God. -Haven't you killed him yet?
This slave isn't screaming in pain. He's encouraging the other slaves.
Umaya! Umaya!
Abu Bakr will pay 100 dinars more than the price you paid for Bilal.
Wait now!
Wait now.
It's against our social order to sell a slave during his correction.
Let Umaya decide.
Two hundred dinars, Umaya.
Abu Bakr? This means Muhammad.
If the price of slaves increases...
we shall have to feed our animals ourselves next year!
Take him! He's no use to me anymore!
While I am alive you must obey me!
Why do you want to anger your father?
If I drank every day, wandering the streets of Mecca,
-would that satisfy my father, sister? -Don't call me sister.
What is this? What is this? You are all my children.
And you... I have given you everything you ever wanted
or needed.
Muhammad has given me serenity and peace.
Let him go...
so he can be with the other apostates.
Do not do this for us, but have some pity on your father.
Wait, Hudayfa! Hold on!
Your nephew insults our gods.
He claims that our forefathers were wrong and is corrupting our children.
Wait, Abu Al-Hakam, wait.
Had I known he was corrupting them I wouldn't have let him continue.
But the best of Mecca's youth are following him.
And what will the Arabs say about that?
That the youth of Mecca is leading its elders?
Tell me, Abu Taleb,
how could the heaven above
choose a prophet who eats food and walks through the marketplace?
We have been patient with your nephew long enough, Abu Taleb.
We are here today with a proposal for him which we hope he will accept.
If he rejects it, we will fight you until one of us is defeated.
If it's money he wants, we are willing to make him the wealthiest amongst us.
If it's status he seeks, we are willing to make him our master.
If it's sovereignty he wants, we are willing to make him our king.
And if he desires ultimate authority,
then we will give him the keys to the Kaaba.
Now that you have heard the Quraysh's proposition,
my nephew, Muhammad,
I advise you spare us both,
and do not burden me in my old age with that which I cannot bear.
How great is Muhammad!
You offered him everything and he refused it, declaring,
"Uncle...
were they to put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left,
I would not renounce this cause
until God has vindicated it or caused me to perish in the process."
God has told His Messenger to declare Islam to all men!
We will announce the truth.
Let the whole world hear it!
There are no other gods but God and we worship only Him.
We are devoted to His religion even though the disbelievers despise it.
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
In the name of God we declare our call!
In the name of God we come out of the darkness and into the light!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Do you hear that, Quraysh?
Are you going to let followers of Muhammad, amongst the lowliest of Mecca,
-invade the sacred Kaaba? -No, by Hubal!
We will throw them into a raging fire!
Throw them into a raging fire!
-Throw them into a raging fire! -Throw them into a raging fire!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God and Muhammad is His Messenger!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There are no other gods but God
-and Muhammad is His Messenger! -Light it!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Protect the Prophet!
God is the greatest!
There is no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God.
"Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!
His wealth and his children will not benefit him!
He will be burnt in a fire of fierce flames!
And his wife too, who carries wood.
On her neck is a twisted rope of palm fiber."
God is the greatest!
God is the greatest!
God is the greatest!
Line up!
-Get out of Mecca! -Liars! Witches!
Let the world witness, as well as the people here present.
Now's the time to finish them off, Abu Sufian!
There are only 30 of them.
No, not at the Kaaba,
not until they have exposed their false agenda to all Arabia.
You are denying us our divine right,
you are stopping us entering the House of Abraham! The right of all Arabs!
God is the greatest!
God is the greatest!
Make way!
Say, "You who reject faith,
-I worship not what you worship." -Keep him out of the Kaaba!
-Neither do you worship what I worship. -Keep him out of the Kaaba!
Stop this liar who falsely claims to know the heavens!
Protect the Messenger of God! Protect him!
Fear God, people!
Hamza! Hamza!
You are a brave man, Abu Jahl!
You attack unarmed men?
-They support this impudent-- -Surely no more impudent than you,
denying him his right to speak!
Muhammad is a liar!
Hit me back if you dare!
And all of you! Is there anyone else here who wants to face me?
I affirm my nephew's religion and I say what he says!
Whoever has the courage to fight, fight me!
Muhammad, my nephew...
when I hunt the desert at night...
I know that God is too great to be kept in a house.
Who would have thought that Hamza,
Hamza with his wine drinking and lion hunting,
would come to join Muhammad?
The more we attack him, the more they want to join him.
Where does he find his words?
I don't know, Hind.
How can an illiterate man over 40 years of age
go up a mountain and come down again
speaking more eloquently than a poet?
If only it were just poetry.
People believe it to be the word of God.
How do we fight someone whose strength we do not understand?
Muhammad promises heaven, he promises trees in the sky.
Naturally he's found an audience.
Then we must make that audience less eager to listen to him.
We will start with the weaker ones.
No!
Ammar! Ammar!
-Mother! -Ammar!
-Mother, Mother! -Ammar!
Come and join your husband!
Sumayya!
Leave her alone! Leave her...
Yasser! Yasser!
Yasser! Yas--
No! No, no!
My parents!
Come and join them.
Tie him up!
Mother, Father!
There's no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God!
There's no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God!
You don't want to speak well of our gods?
Say, "Hubal"!
-Say, "Hubal"! -There is only one God
-and Muhammad is the-- -No!
No, no!
Mother! Have mercy!
There's no god but Allah
and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
No, no!
Hubal, Hubal, Hubal!
Hubal!
Say, "Hubal the great." Say "Hubal"!
Say "Hubal" and reject the religion of Muhammad!
-"Hubal"! -There's no god but Allah.
-Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. -Disappointing! Disappointing!
Disappointing, disappointing, disappointing--
-Where is this God to save you now? -No!
Come out. Come out, my Brethren in faith!
Be patient, Ammar!
The Prophet has announced good news.
"Be patient, o' family of Yasser, for Paradise awaits you"
The Prophet has arrived.
Oh, Messenger of God...
How can I raise my head in your presence?
For I have betrayed you,
by calling upon their gods. Tell me, how?
The pain caused me to lose consciousness.
I cried out because of it...
They killed my parents before my eyes!
They forced me to betray you, oh Messenger of Allah!
Forgive me, my Lord!
Fear only Allah, Ammar.
Your situation has touched the Prophet so that he cries with pity.
You are not to blame, for you spoke under duress.
Allah holds the heart accountable only for what it can bear.
You are not safe here.
The Messenger of God has asked that we leave Mecca.
If you stay here, they will kill you one by one.
He says, "Go to Abyssinia, for there is a king there
who is never unjust."
Leave now.
Right now!
Horsemen! Be careful!
We found their tracks and followed them, but...
but they just disappeared!
So you let them escape you!
Escape? They vanished!
If Muhammad has stayed, only the weakest will have gone.
Weak or strong, they'll blacken our name and hurt our trade with Abyssinia.
Abyssinia... Amr!
You are a friend of Annajashi, the king?
I am.
Can you use that friendship?
I think I can bring them back.
Then, to Abyssinia.
Look at them. Watch them be humiliated!
Do you not bow before your Prophet?
We prostrate ourselves only before the One True God.
Muhammad taught us that he is only a Servant of Allah and His Messenger.
"Messenger of Allah"? Where are his miracles, Jafar?
Has he risen to the Heavens? Has he walked on water?
Has he cured the sick, or given sight to the blind?
Or even life to the dead?
Where are his miracles, Jafar?
He is right.
Prophets perform miracles so as to prove they have been sent by Allah.
The miracle of Muhammad is the Qur'an itself.
Mere words?
Mere words written by an illiterate man and falsely attributed to Allah!
Does the king need to hear anything more?
But I know that Allah sent tongues of fire down upon the heads of the apostles,
so that they could express themselves in all earthly languages,
languages which were previously unknown to them.
But I wonder... Can such miracles occur in our times?
I've heard enough! Your argument is very weak!
We fled here to escape oppression and injustice!
Muhammad said to us,
"Go to Abyssinia, where the king treats no one unjustly."
What they call injustice is simply fair punishment!
Why did Muhammad send you to me?
Because you are of the People of the Book!
Your belief in the One True God inspires you to protect us.
Your Majesty! Talking to them is like drawing water from a mirage!
But they have now laid a duty upon me, and I have to listen to them, my friend.
Your Majesty!
We were a people of utter ignorance.
We worshipped idols of wood and stone which we had fashioned with our own hands!
We ate carrion, fornicated, and broke blood ties with abandon.
We disrespected our neighbors and the rich amongst us oppressed the poor!
This was our way, until one day Allah chose a Messenger from amongst us.
A man who we know to be virtuous, sincere, honest and dignified.
He invited us to worship Allah alone
and to relinquish our gods of wood and stone!
You blaspheme against our gods!
We don't worship the wood and stone of our gods.
We worship the spirit which resides within them which brings us closer to Allah!
Not everyone sees it that way, Amr.
What does your religion command?
It orders us to worship the One True God and not to associate Him with others.
To pray regularly, and to speak only the truth,
to fulfill all trusts, to respect our neighbors and maintain our blood ties,
to avoid vice, and not shed innocent blood.
It prohibits fornication, speaking ill of others,
stealing the inheritance of orphans and lying about pure women.
"Pure women"? What does your religion say of women?
Women in our religion are the equal of men.
They have the same rights and the same duties.
What rights? We buy them, feed them, clothe them to serve us,
and we sell them if they refuse to obey us.
Do you disrespect the woman who carried you in her womb,
nursed you whilst you were young, until the day you grew into an adult, Amr?
Why are your gods tongue-tied, Amr?
It seems their One True God has overpowered them.
Our Lord is the Lord of all humankind.
He is the Lord of Abraham, Moses, Zachariah, John and Jesus Christ.
They were granted the Revelation, as it is to Muhammad now also.
We don't differentiate between the Messengers!
Who taught you those names?
The Qur'an. It was revealed to Muhammad.
Muhammad! A mere orphan who grew up minding sheep!
And the Christ was a carpenter in the Holy Land!
The Truth of the matter is that
the Words of Muhammad, and the Words of Christ...
come from the same source of light.
Your Majesty, what they truly say of the Christ will displease you!
What do they say of Christ?
They say... that he is a human being like us!
Speak up. What do you say of Christ?
We say of Him, only that which has been revealed to Muhammad.
He is the Spirit and the Word which was inspired in the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Ask them who gave birth to Christ and how?
Does this Qur'an speak of the birth of Christ?
Yes. May I quote a passage from it?
Approach and recite.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"And mention from the Book the story of Mary, who secluded herself
from her family to a place facing east.
And she placed a screen between herself and them,
and we sent her Our ruh, Gabriel,
and he appeared before her in the form of a man.
She said, 'Truly! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent from you,
if you do fear Allah.'
The Angel said,
'I am only a Messenger from your Lord
to announce to you the gift of a Righteous son.'
She said,
'How can I have a son when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?'
He said, 'So it will be, for your Lord has said: 'That is easy for me.'
And We wish to appoint him as a Sign to Humankind and a mercy from us,
and it is a matter already Decreed.'"
Allah has spoken the truth.
The difference between our two Religions is no greater than this line.
Amr, I swear by Allah that I will not give them back to you,
not even for a mountain of gold!
You and your companions are free to go, Jafar.
You may live here in peace until your Lord permits you to return home safely.
Intolerable! Intolerable!
Muhammad disturbs even our foreign alliances!
Very well!
We will make a foreigner of him in Mecca!
-Yes. -Yes!
Who protects him here? Abu Talib?
We will isolate him,
as well as Banu Hashim, and anyone else from the Quraysh who supports him!
Very good! No merchant is to sell to Muhammad or his supporters.
No one is to buy from them. No one is to shelter them under their roof.
Food will be neither sold nor given to them.
They are not to marry amongst us nor we from them.
Send them into the mountains
until they renounce the Religion of Muhammad!
The years passed...
Muhammad and those with him were patient amidst this misfortune.
And then, in the third year...
Khadija, the Mother of the Believers, fell ill and passed away,
and Abu Talib would soon die of a great sadness.
It was the Year of Sorrow.
Hishaam. Zuhayr.
-What's going on? -We wish to tear up the Proclamation!
-It is shame! -Withdraw the Proclamation!
You are not even related to Muhammad. This doesn't concern you.
We will not fight you.
How can you eat while some of our people die of starvation in the mountains?
The Chiefs of Mecca came to a unanimous agreement.
You will not touch the Proclamation. Return to your homes!
Let's go!
This is indeed a great plot!
WITH YOUR NAME, O ALLAH
You demanded a miracle. Here it is, right in front of you.
A miracle achieved by the weakest of creatures!
These mere termites have overpowered you, oh Chiefs of Mecca!
They have humiliated you and destroyed your pride.
This is all that remains of you.
Your cruel force...
your mercilessness, and all that you have built...
are nothing before the Greatness of Allah.
Here is your proclamation, Quraysh.
There is only one word left on it.
"In Your Name, oh Allah."
"We shall turn to whatever deed they did
and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust"
Allah Has Spoken the Truth.
Chiefs of Mecca! You cannot flee!
Time will catch up with you and your evil ways.
How splendid! Hamza the "hunter of lions" is now the "hunter of insects."
Yes!
Today and tomorrow, Hind!
I must bid farewell to this life...
for my hour is close.
But I did not convene you because of that, my people...
I called you here...
for something far more serious than my life and death.
I called upon Muhammad...
in order that you may come to a fair agreement.
Why does he invites us to that which we can't tolerate?
Ask him to stop blaspheming our gods, Abu Talib.
If he leaves our religion alone, we will leave his alone.
If he accepts this, then we'll listen to him.
All he required from you was just one Word!
If he had asked us to accept ten other words we would have accepted them!
But to declare that "there is one God", never!
You are afraid... even to...
to listen...
to what he says.
Is there another city
whose people are so arrogant and deaf to the Truth?
Our sorrows grow...
First, Khadija left us...
She was like a mother to me.
And today, Abu Talib.
We have neither support nor protection in Mecca.
Sinaan...
The Messenger wants us to leave Mecca.
Now? Without delay?
He wants to go to Taif.
Taif...
where there will be no Abu Sufian...
no Abu Jahl or Abu Lahab.
To Taif, the second "City of Arabs,"
went the Prophet with his adopted son Zayd,
in the hope that he would find support amongst the leaders of Taif
after his despair with the Quraysh.
Fear Allah, people!
Fear Allah!
Fear Allah!
Fear Allah, people!
Fear Allah!
Are you a Christian?
The son of Naynoah.
Give this to him.
His feet are bleeding!
He is supplicating to the Lord...
"Oh Allah! I complain to You of my weakness,
my scarcity of resources,
and the humiliation I've been subjected to by the people, oh Most Merciful.
Oh, the Lord of the weak, and my Lord too!
To whom have you entrusted me?
To a distant person who receives me with hostility?
Or to an enemy to whom you have granted authority over my affairs?
So long as You are not angry with me, I do not care.
Your favor is a more far-reaching relief to me.
I seek refuge in the light of Your Face by which all darkness is dispelled,
and every affair of this world and the next is set right,
lest Your anger,
or Your displeasure, descends upon me.
I desire Your satisfaction until You are pleased
and we have no Power nor Might without God."
I recommend that you leave.
Taif is no longer a safe place.
Today was the bitterest of his life.
And God answered His Messenger's call.
A year ago, one group of Yathrib pilgrims paid homage to Islam in secret.
During the next pilgrimage, without the Quraysh's knowledge,
men of Ous and Khazraj, the ever-at-war tribes,
came to pay homage and promise to stand together.
They wish the Messenger to go to them,
and save their city from hate and destruction,
but the homage can't take place until they know its exact conditions.
Wait, people!
With this homage of yours, you're going against the Arab polytheists.
You're paying homage that the strange believers would be your brothers,
and the nonbelievers would be your enemies, despite your kinship.
You're paying homage to destroy your stone idols,
to break your wooden idols and throw them into the fire.
People! If you can tolerate all that, then you may pay homage.
But if you are afraid for yourself, do not pay homage.
By the Name of God who sent you with the message,
we'll pay homage to you if you will not prohibit us doing what we do,
and what our sons and their families do.
On such conditions, we pay homage to the Messenger of God
and those who breach that promise violate themselves.
May God and His Messenger witness that we, the Ous and Khazraj, are followers.
We pay homage to the Messenger of God and promise to listen, to adhere,
and to support Islam,
by our lives and the lives of our sons and our money,
and we promise to welcome into our hearts and houses
those brothers of Islam coming to us.
So the day of determination came, turning from darkness to light.
the migrants came in group after group,
all united by their belief in God.
Among those migrants were Othman Ibn Affan
and Abdul Rahman Ibn Aouf,
Obaidah Ibn Al-Jarrah and Omar Ibn Al-Khattab.
The migrants numbered about 70 persons, including Quraysh nobles.
And those who traveled were destined
to correct the path of time and man and change the face of the world.
But the Messenger of God remained in Mecca.
He chose to remain so as to ensure every one of the migrants left safely.
Allah is great!
The Islamic calendar marks this migration
and the date the Messenger traveled to Medina.
Muhammad leads a nation now. He has a city of his own.
He received the homage of your people while you were sleeping, Ibn Saloul!
You lost your authority to govern while you were dreaming about glory.
Don't blame me, Abu Sufian!
You've become under his command.
Your caravans could only get to the Levant by deception
or with the permission of the new master of Yathrib.
And how about you? What are you going to do?
I'll just wait and ambush.
Until when?
Until the Arab tribes agree to stand by your side and destroy him
and return you to your previous situation.
And while you wait, what would your role be?
I'll convert to Islam. I won't let him have the city of my birth.
Yathrib is worth such a sacrifice.
-You mean hypocrisy! -Yes, Hind! Hypocrisy and conversion.
You would convert to Islam?
You'd put your face in the dirt five times a day?
I can't believe that!
You might not need to do that if things turn out well, Ibn Saloul!
We're going to do something we should have done before.
Muhammad will be killed.
Come and see!
We have devised a way of killing Muhammad.
We have taken one young man from each tribe.
My son Ikrima is also with them.
They will attack as one man.
Each one of the tribes will share responsibility for the deed.
It was my idea.
I do not think that will silence him.
His call and his Words shall remain.
But this idea from Abu Al-Hakkam finishes the whole thing.
Once and for all!
No!
Ali was sleeping in his place?
That young man would sacrifice his life for him?
What kind of people are we fighting?
He won't get away! Someone's watching for him on every road!
He has but the desert in front of him.
One hundred she-camels for the one who brings me Muhammad, dead or alive!
There are but three of them. Muhammad, Abu Bakr and their guide Ouraikeb.
-No one knows the desert better than him. -Letโs go!
Why are you looking for him here? The road to Medina is over there!
These are their tracks.
Surely that is the trail of nomads going west?
-I know what I'm doing. -Yes, of course!
We all know they say you can smell a bird in the sky and track it.
Come on, let's go with them.
Muhammad!
Come out now and we promise to take you back to Mecca alive!
Be careful! Those caves are filled with snakes.
Muhammad! We know you're in there!
Come out!
They are not here. This spider's web is intact.
The nest of this dove is still here, too.
It's impossible that they could be in there.
Why did we venture this far west? We'll head north, towards Yathrib!
Allah had demonstrated the totality of His Power
for there was nothing between Muhammad and death,
but the spindle of a spiderโs web.
Inside the cave, Abu Bakr had trembled with fear for the Prophet and Islam,
while the Prophet whispered to him with certainty of heart, saying,
"Fear not, for Allah is with us."
They continued their journey for days in the full heat of the desert.
The Prophet went on with his companion and their nomadic guide
to cross a desert that had never before been traversed.
In Medina, the faithful awaited the arrival of the Messenger of Allah
while their hearts burned with fear and anxiety.
-Do you see anything? -No, not yet!
My heart goes out to him and Abu Bakr.
What has this heat done to them?
There is the Messenger! Allah is the Greatest!
-Allah is the Greatest! -I see the Messenger there!
The Bearer of Good Tidings is finally here!
Allah is the Greatest! Allah is the Greatest!
Go and hide,
so I won't be obliged to release you as a gesture of welcoming him.
Oh, the White Moon rose over us
From the valley of Wadaa
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Where the Call is to Allah!
Oh, the White Moon rose over us
From the valley of Wadaa
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Where the Call is to Allah!
Oh, you who were raised amongst us
Coming with a work to be obeyed
You have brought nobleness to this city!
Welcome, Oh Great Caller to God's Way!
Welcome, Oh Messenger of Allah, to his city of light!
Welcome! Welcome!
You must come and stay with me, Oh Messenger of Allah,
for my house is the most honorable in Yathrib,
a most worthy accommodation for you, if you accept it, that is.
Stay at my house, Oh Messenger of Allah!
-My house! -My house!
Oh dear inhabitants of Yathrib! Oh Community of the Anssar!
The Messenger of Allah would prefer not to have to choose between you all...
Listen, people! Listen!
The Messenger of Allah has declared,
"Where God guides his camel to stop, there he will build his house."
-All agreed? -Wherever the camel turns
there we will build the Prophet's mosque and house.
-Agreed! -Agreed!
A clever solution. A choice made by a camel can offend no one.
We will build the house of the Prophet here!
Our first prayer house, the first mosque for worshipping God, will be built here!
-God is great! God is great! -God is great! God is great!
What is the Prophet of God doing carrying bricks?
You suffered too much on your way here.
Please, go and sit down and have a rest. We'll do it.
Look! He has gone for more.
-"Work is worship" he says. -He's 53 years old.
How old are you?
It was built by the Will of Allah!
How will we call for prayer?
The human voice of a faithful man can call for prayer
as Umar ibn Khattab and some other Muslims mentioned.
If the Prophet agrees.
The Prophet agreed. Yes, the human voice!
He means you, Bilal.
-Me? -Don't be hesitant, Bilal!
It's the Prophet's wish
Allah is the Greatest!
Allah is the Greatest!
Allah is the Greatest!
Allah is the Greatest!
I acknowledge that there is no God but Allah!
I acknowledge that there is no God but Allah!
I acknowledge that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah!
I acknowledge that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah!
Come to the prayer!
Come to the prayer!
Come to the salvation!
Come to the salvation!
Allah is the Greatest!
Allah is the Greatest!
I acknowledge that there is no God but Allah!
Oh, my brethren in faith!
The Messenger of Allah says to the migrants and Anssar,
"Be brothers before Allah!"
Today, a man of Medina, will embrace a man of Mecca.
Each will share an embrace with a brother.
Reach out, embrace your neighbor and brother.
I'm tired of the politics of kissing slaves. Read this!
Muhammad is acting like a sultan!
How is my son?
Praying relentlessly.
Does it burn your hands?
If it's not torn up, it will burn down the house.
He's making laws like a king.
He has declared that loyalty to Islam is greater than loyalty to the tribe.
What is that?
All Muslims from Quraysh and Yathrib
and all those who follow are as like kin to one another?
Don't be misled by that.
He will never be able to unify the Arab tribes.
The danger is here, "equality."
"A man's neighbor
is as good as he is himself."
He means it!
Jews and Christians have equal rights with Muslims. Even Jews of Yathrib.
"The Jews who attach themselves to a common wealth shall be protected
unless they trespass."
Look at this! Women have rights of inheritance!
He'll be giving camels rights next.
His Qur'an says it.
"There is not an animal on earth nor a creature that flies with two wings,
that aren't like you."
Muhammad turns everything upside down, even the natural order of my city.
Unbelievable!
He's taken our sons and daughters from us, he's taken our life from us.
These rights he proclaims... are wrongs!
No more.
He must be put back in his place.
We will take everything of value they have left in Mecca.
Their houses, their camels, their palms, their money...
even their children. All of it will be ours!
Thieves! Thieves!
Leave it! Leave it! Thieves!
My friends, my brothers! Listen to me! I have news from Mecca!
They've stolen everything you left back in Mecca!
You have nothing left there!
Abu Bakr's shops, the Prophet's house... Sold!
They've sold all your possessions in order to enlarge their own caravans!
You no longer possess anything, not here, nor there!
Won't you even fight for what you own?
Who is it that speaks of fighting?
What is the alternative?
When Allah and His Prophet say we fight, we fight.
Don't misunderstand me, Hamza!
We are not the ones being placed under this strain. You are our guests.
If we had but one loaf of bread... half of it would be yours.
Go back to work.
We must fight them, Oh Messenger of Allah!
Yes, we must fight them.
Those who oppressed us, drove us out of our homes and then plundered them.
No! By Allah! The truth can not be overcome by falsehood!
We are protected by Allah and by you, so we cannot be defeated.
Oh Messenger of Allah, I know that you call to peace.
But if we tolerate this, we will lose all honor and dignity, Oh Messenger of Allah!
Permit us to fight them!
Everything we had is on those caravans,
and those caravans are within our reach.
So let us recover our possessions by brute force!
Forgive me.
Forgive me for raising my voice in your presence, Oh Messenger of Allah!
But it is an anger for Allah and for His Religion!
Fight them, Oh Messenger of Allah!
There will be no fighting until Allah Orders it.
That's Bilal.
But look at the sun.
It's too early for prayer.
There is but one God!
Listen to what Allah has revealed to His Messenger, from the Qur'an.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Permission to fight has been given to those who have been oppressed,
for they have been wronged and surely, Allah is able to give them victory.
Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly,
only because they said "Our Lord is Allah."
Allah Has Spoken the Truth.
-Allah is the Greatest! -Allah is the Greatest!
-Allah is the Greatest! -Allah is the Greatest!
The sword of Ali. The first Sword of Islam!
Oh Migrants and Anssar!
Observe the rules of war, as laid out by the Prophet!
Do not harm any children, old men, women, or the sick!
Do not cut down trees!
Do not unjustly inconvenience the man who works in the fields!
Fight only your oppressors and those who have stolen from you!
And now...
to the wells of Badr!
Oh, people of Quraysh! Oh, people of Quraysh!
Oh, people of Quraysh! Oh, people of Quraysh!
Arm yourselves! Defend your merchandise! Muhammad!
Muhammad and his men are attacking the caravans!
-How many are they? -Three hundred. And a few horsemen.
We will have 200 horsemen! And how many camels?
-Seventy. -We will have 170!
And 20 of my she-camels laden with wine filled jars!
We'll make it a festival!
This is the war I've been waiting for!
A war without losses!
War! War! War!
Go quickly to the caravan!
Tell Abu Sufian to gather his men and head to the wells of Badr. We'll follow him.
The Quraysh have gone out!
The Quraysh have gone to face the Muslims at Badr. They have asked you to join them.
Is it reasonable to jeopardize the wealth of Mecca like this?
I'll head west, away from the wells of Badr.
You must head to Badr, Abu Sufian!
If I travel all through the night, I'll avoid Muhammad and his companions.
And what of your reputation amongst your own people?
My reputation depends upon the safety of these camels.
Yes, today, my status lies with this merchandise.
Muhammad has taken the wells of Badr.
He is as good as ours. He has been too hasty!
The hasty always throw themselves head first into destruction.
Abu Sufian is heading west, away from Badr.
The caravan is safe then.
I would suggest that we no longer need to fight.
Not fight?
Why would we fight our own people? And in a war which could last 40 years?
A war between fathers and sons, you mean?
Your son, Hudhayfah, is with them. That boy deserves the whip!
Mecca is worth more than his life. Your true son is Waleed.
It may be that you label me "Utbah the Coward."
You know very well that I am not the most cowardly among you.
And I say to you, war!
This is our only chance.
If we do not take it we may not get another one!
-To War! -War!
Are you done yet?
Form ranks, battle positions! Quickly!
Quickly!
Each man to his position!
Ready yourselves for combat! Get in position!
So, Muhammad has filled the wells.
We must reach that well over there.
Remain in your positions until the Prophet orders otherwise!
If the enemy gets close enough, shoot them with your arrows!
Send us your champions!
Who are you?
Oh Mohammad!
We expect you to send out the equals of our men!
Come back!
My brother, Shaiba!
My son, Waleed!
And myself!
Not you.
Ubaida...
myself...
and Ali.
The Messenger of Allah said,
"By Him in whose Hands is the soul of Mohammad,
Know that there is no one who fights them this day
who dies whilst being patient and seeking Allah's Reward
and who advances without hesitating
except that Allah will enter him into Paradise."
Are we your equals?
There is only one God and Muhammad is His Messenger.
Allah is the Greatest of all! Allah is the Greatest of all!
Allah is the Greatest of all! Allah is the Greatest of all!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
-Archers! -Advance!
Archers!
Hold...
Fire!
Fire!
Fire!
Fire!
Archers, back!
They're regrouping.
Charge!
Move back! Get ready to face them!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
-Attack! -Allah is the Greatest of all!
Umaya!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
-Umaya! -Bilal!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
Onward to victory!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
-Allah is the Greatest of all! -Allah is the Greatest of all!
Allah is the Greatest of all!
The Messenger of Allah does not want the prisoners to be bound.
If we were in their place, they would have killed us!
We must comply with the rules set by the Messenger of Allah!
You are not to tie up or drag the prisoners!
And share your food with them.
Anyone who knows how to read and write
may teach ten Muslims and will go free.
Why won't they go away?
-Why don't they go away? -Because they blame me.
But why? Should I have joined them and died at Badr too?
I didn't just save myself, Hind! I saved the money of Quraysh.
Enough! Enough! That's enough! I've had enough of the wailing!
Do I need reminders of my father, my brother and my uncle?
Do they think I need them to remind me?
Muhammad!
Ali!
Hamza!
Hamza!
With my nails, Hamza!
I will cut you with my nails, I will cut your throat!
Hamza! Hamza!
I will hunt the lion hunter!
And when you are dead, Hamza, I will cut out your heart.
I will cut out your heart, killer of my father!
I will cut out your heart, killer of my brother!
I will drink your blood when you die, killer of my uncle!
-I will drink your blood! -Stop wailing! Stop wailing!
I forbid it! It cannot continue!
This time, we will call in our allies. We will raise a new army against them.
Hamza!
God is great! God is great!
God is great! God is great!
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah.
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Come to prayer!
Come to prayer!
Come to victory!
Come to victory!
God is great!
God is great!
There is no god, but God!
Is this Yathrib? Where have its people gone?
You could fill your pockets very nicely here.
What about their new religion?
-No merchant is minding his shop. -God is minding them.
-Where do you come from? -Yemen.
-Did you stop in Mecca? -It is on the road.
-So did you stop there? -Yes. Long enough to rest my camels.
Camels rest better in Mecca than anywhere else in the world.
What is the word in the desert?
It is bad for you. They are gathering.
Every young man with a sword is on his way to Mecca.
Our strength is here.
Do not underestimate them! They are summoning up their courage.
In Mecca there is music in every house.
-Khalid hasn't arrived yet. -Don't worry!
Tomorrow, he will be lead out our best riders, ready for action.
Continue!
An Abyssinian slave, named Al-Wahshi, "The Savage,"
because of his cruelty
I will give you your freedom.
I will give you your weight in silver and dress you in silk...
for just one throw like that.
So they have come at last. We'll know how many soon enough.
It's a big army. Three thousand men, hundreds of horsemen.
-We defeated them at Badr. -That was a year ago.
They have come to revenge their losses at Badr.
Go and gather your weapons!
Blood for blood! Oh, Banu Abd Al-dar!
Oh, defenders of home and hearth! Strike with sharpened swords!
We, the daughters of Tariq, walk gently across soft cushions,
whilst the house is smothered with the scent of musk.
If you advance, we will embrace you, and spread soft rugs beneath you.
But if you retreat, we will leave you. Leave you and love you no more!
Hamza is over there. Do you see him?
This is your day.
Ubada!
Those horsemen on the flank over there. They're oddly placed.
They are led by Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed.
Khalid! That young man has always impressed me
Hamza!
The Prophet asks if you have noticed those horsemen?
Yes, I have, but I'm not sure what their plan is.
It matters not!
The Messenger of Allah has placed 50 of our best archers on the mountain.
He said to them, "Cover our backs.
Remain where you are, even if you see us being killed.
By the same token, if you see that we are victorious, remain where you are."
Zaid, tell the Prophet we are ready.
-Glory to Hubal! -Glory to Hubal!
Glory to Hubal!
What do you think, Hamza?
Well, they outnumber us but we are strong in faith.
We see them and they see us.
Nothing that is in front of me frightens me.
When the Prophet gives the word we will throw ourselves upon them.
Archers! Prepare your weapons!
Advance!
Attack!
Archers, get ready! Fire!
Hamza has been martyred! We will avenge him!
Return to your positions!
You! Take this! Go back! Return to your positions!
Remain in your places! Go back! Go back!
The Quraysh are retreating. We have broken their will!
There's no point staying here. Let's get the loot!
Stand where you were told to stand!
Don't disobey the orders of the Messenger of Allah!
You're endangering the army's right flank!
The battle is lost, Khalid! The heart of the army has been crushed!
Not yet.
Attack with all your might!
Destroy the followers of Muhammad!
-Where is the Prophet? -I heard he's been killed!
If the Messenger of Allah has perished, stand up for what he died for!
The Messenger of Allah is not dead! He is still fighting!
The Prophet is wounded!
Retreat! Move back to the mountain!
-This is your victory, Khalid! -No, my victory is over there!
But we have avenged Badr!
This will not be over until he is obliterated, along with his religion.
If we give chase they'll defend their position.
It's too much of a risk!
Muhammad, can you hear me?
War has its highs and lows. A day for a day!
Some days, they are against us. Other days, they are for us!
Some days are with us and some are not!
Glory to Hubal!
The Messenger says, "Allah is the Almighty One!
Know that our dead are in Paradise whilst yours are in Hell!"
Al-Uzza is with us and not with you!
Allah is our Lord and you are bereft of one!
Hamza.
Hamza! Can you hear me?
It is I, Hind. The daughter of Utba.
Do you remember your victims, Hamza?
My father, my brother...
my uncle?
Is your death enough for me?
Your death is only the beginning.
Wahshi! Cut him open!
Cut him open! I want his liver!
They lost the battle and have hung up their swords.
Now they swing their hoes.
What fools!
It goes against all logic!
Even after such hardships they are still happy.
They believe Allah is testing them.
They fight for Allah, as they say.
-They desire Mecca. -And they will have it.
When the stars come out at noon.
Don't underestimate them! Mecca is more than just a homeland to them.
It is the place where the Revelation came down.
They are going there this year as pilgrims.
-What do you mean? -Unarmed.
Unarmed?
Abu Sufian will finish them off in the desert!
They think their faith in Allah will save them.
But I think I agree with you.
Perhaps he will finish them.
Be still!
Do not let them provoke you! That is what they want!
Stand firm!
Peace be upon you!
To the Pledge!
The Prophet says, "Whoever loves Allah, make the Pledge under the tree!"
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers
when they gave their pledge to Him under the tree.
He knew what was in their hearts and sent calmness and tranquility upon them,
and He rewarded them with a near victory.
Allah and his Messenger have spoken the truth."
-Another negotiator has arrived. -Suheil Ibn Amr.
Perhaps they want reconciliation.
Muhammad,
a treaty between you and Quraysh has been drawn up.
Have you agreed to it?
What is this?
"In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."
Who is this new God they call gracious?
Write. "In your Name, Oh Allah"
"This has been agreed to by Muhammad the Messenger of Allah."
If I believed you to be the Messenger of Allah, I wouldn't have fought you.
Write...
"This has been agreed to by Muhammad, son of Abd Allah and Suheil Ibn Amr."
That is more factual, yes?
This is much better!
"Muhammad and his companions will turn back from Mecca,
and return to their homes."
Mecca is our home!
"Next year, you will not be permitted to stay indefinitely in Mecca,
you may however stay there for a total of three days
as long as your swords remain sheathed."
If you are satisfied with this agreement we will grant you a ten-year truce.
Your people will be safe and there will be no fighting between us.
You will not attack us under the cover of night, nor will you betray us.
This applies to us as well!
According to this treaty, whoever wants to follow Muhammad is free to do so.
And whoever wants to follow the Quraysh is free to do so.
But if you refuse
or if you harm one of us, or one of our allies...
the truce will be broken.
Ten years!
Ten years of peace!
We need that time!
We can use that time!
These are letters from the Prophet to the kings of the world calling them to Islam.
To Heraclius, Emperor of Byzantium.
To Kisra, Emperor of Persia.
To Muqawqis, Patriarch of Alexandria.
-Go with the blessings of Allah! -Allah is the greatest!
Allah is the greatest! Allah is the greatest!
"One's faith is not complete...
until you love for your brother the good which you love for yourself.
And whoever goes to sleep on a full stomach whilst his neighbor goes hungry...
is not a true Muslim."
Islam releases us from blind nationalism as well as the fires of ignorance.
Allah the Almighty and Splendid says,
"Oh, humankind! We have created you from a male and a female
and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another.
Verily, the most honorable of you before Allah is the most pious of you."
Allah has spoken the truth.
"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him
and that you be kind to your parents."
Yes! For that is true faith!
"And further, to your parents say not a word of disrespect to them,
but address them in terms of honor.
And lower unto them a wing of humility and mercy and say..."
'My lord, bestow them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young.'"
Allah the Most High says,
"Say, Oh Humankind! The truth has come to you from your Lord.
So whoever receives Guidance, does so for the Good of his own self,
and whoever goes astray, does so to his own loss."
And He also said, "Whoever desires the reward of the hereafter
we give increase in his reward,
and whoever desires the reward of this world we give him thereof
and he will have no portion in the Hereafter."
And He, the most High, says,
"Allah will never change the state of people
until they change themselves."
"Return entrusted goods to the one who lent them to you
and betray not those who betray you."
The Messenger of Allah, Peace and Blessings be upon him, said,
"All of you are shepherds and each one of you is responsible for his flock.
A leader of the people is a shepherd and is thus responsible for his flock.
A man is like the shepherd of his family and he is responsible for his flock.
A woman is like the shepherd of her husband's house and children
and she is responsible for them.
A servant is a guardian of his master's property and is thus responsible for it.
So all of you are shepherds and are thus responsible for your charges."
Have you come to take me again?
Rather I have come to ask you to take me.
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger.
May Allah forgive me for fighting you, Messenger of Allah!
Fear not, Khalid, for conversion to Islam cancels all previous sins!
Allah has granted you much Goodness.
That roughly woven mat is causing you discomfort, Messenger of Allah.
May I lay my cape out for you?
The Messenger of Allah recommends asceticism, Khalid,
for the wealth of this life is not eternal.
He doesn't own anything except that cloak.
Excuse me for coming in front of the Messenger of Allah
wearing these items of jewelry.
If the Messenger permits, I will give them to him to distribute amongst the poor.
Khalid! Your sword was the harshest against the Muslims.
And now you will be "the sword of Allah", Khalid.
I will be with the help of Allah!
All is easy for Allah.
As He can make life from death...
he can turn defeat into victory.
Two years ago, we regarded the treaty of Hudaybiyah as a defeat.
But as you see now, we have gone from victory to victory in the hearts of men.
What was that?
Abu Sufian is coming! Abu Sufian!
I have come to speak to Muhammad. Where is he?
He is in the mosque.
Muhammad, our people did not violate the treaty of Hudaybiyah.
I have come to repair the damage done by those desert nomads.
Why are you turning your face from me, Muhammad?
Wait! Don't go, Muhammad!
It was Bedouin thieves who violated the truce of Hudaybiyah!
Why do you hold me accountable for what they have done?
The night was dark! How can they say it was us they saw?
Barra, I am in your city!
Hudayfa, we are relatives! I must be heard!
Abu Bakr! Umar! Ali! Will no one listen to me?
I am the leader of the Quraysh! I am Mecca!
I am Abu Sufian! Why am I being insulted like this?
Because you keep no promise and respect no pledge.
Abu Sufian beseeches piteously?
Well, you have failed,
because you are arrogant and headstrong as always!
You refuse to worship Allah alone.
I wasn't aware you had changed so much, Khalid!
Yes, but from disbelief to faith.
What can I say?
I have been defeated, overcome by a shepherd from Mecca.
Overpowered by his religion which began with a man, two boys and a woman.
And regarding this religion which was first established in those four hearts...
do you not realize that it also has a hand which nurtures it?
Why then didn't it choose a powerful man from either Mecca or Taif?
Return quickly to Mecca because every man here will be heading there soon!
Tell them that their gods have been defeated
and that it is useless to fight Allah!
Tribes are still arriving.
We will have 10,000 men before sunset.
Now that you're back we can fight them.
We will fortify the houses and block the roads.
It's no use.
There are thousands of them today.
You coward! We'd rather die than let Muhammad enter here!
-Hind, go home! -Coward!
Are you the leader of Mecca? Look at yourself! You have been broken!
Did my father, brother and uncle die for my husband to run away?
-You go home! You! -Don't be foolish!
We cannot resist! We just can't!
They are taking Mecca back
No, no!
No! No.
We are to camp here for the night.
Mecca!
I can see it even through the mountains.
It's as if the sky has fallen
and its stars have been scattered all over the earth.
It is very beautiful.
How strange it is that I can smell their bread.
Perhaps they have not come for war. At least, I hope that's what it means.
They don't want blood on their own walls and doorsteps.
Even though we drove them out of Mecca, Mecca remains in their hearts.
I can still negotiate with them.
Take me to him.
So, you are giving us Mecca?
You do not offer me bread.
I understand. You may decide to kill me.
Say what you have come to say.
I saw your campfires and the men gathered around them.
I know what power you instill in your men, Muhammad.
Now if you'll agree to...
You still wish to set conditions, Abu Sufian?
Abu Sufian...
Isn't it time you recognized the truth
that has been revealed to the Messenger of God?
There is still doubt in my heart.
If I were to cut off your head it would remove all your doubts.
No, Khalid. There can be no compulsion in religion.
A man may take many years or only need minutes.
God guides whomever He decides.
You are a black slave. You set a great example.
I am only what God has given me.
Yes.
Had there been any good in the gods I worshipped...
they wouldn't have abandoned me.
I declare with honesty...
without fear and under no compulsion...
There is no god but Allah
and you are the Messenger of God, Muhammad.
Now, let me go.
Get inside your houses! The Muslim armies are entering Mecca by all three roads!
Get inside your houses!
The Muslim armies are entering Mecca by all three roads!
The Muslim armies are entering Mecca by all three roads!
Get inside your houses!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There is no god but Allah!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Praise be to God!
God is the greatest!
And to God goes all praise!
And glory to God In the morning and in the evening!
There is no god but Allah!
He has fulfilled His promise
-And made victorious His worshipper -Get inside your houses!
-And strengthened His soldiers -Get inside!
-And defeated the confederates solely -Come on!
-Come on! Close the doors. -There is no god but Allah!
He alone we worship
With sincere and exclusive devotion Even though the disbelievers hate it
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There is no god but Allah!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Praise be to God
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
There is no god but Allah!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Praise be to God!
God is the greatest! God is the greatest!
Commit no act of violence in Mecca! Be lenient towards its inhabitants!
No one shall be abused!
All those behind closed doors are safe!
All those in Abu Sufian's house are safe!
All those in the mosque are safe!
At least he kept his word. They haven't forced a single door.
He has conquered hearts, not walls.
His victory is permanent.
It hurts me to see them.
It is better to forgive, Hind.
Were we so wrong?
Yes, we were very wrong.
Our pride led us to sin.
Our gods were less than us.
Now there he is, making his entrance to the Kaaba!
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"And remember when We showed Abraham the site of the Sacred House, saying,
'Do not associate anything in worship with Me
and purify My House for those who make the circuit
and stand to pray, bow and prostate themselves.'"
Allah has Spoken the Truth.
"The Truth has come and falsehood has vanished!"
God is Great! God is Great!
Allah is the Greatest!
I acknowledge that there is no God but Allah!
I acknowledge that there is no God but Allah!
And the Victory of Allah had come...
and Mecca yielded itself awaiting a fair decision.
But the Merciful Prophet simply declared: "Leave, you are free to go."
Mecca adhered to the Religion of Islam which preaches justice and good character,
and prohibits corruption, evil, and injustice.
The Prophet began to feel, having achieved his Mission in delivering his Message,
that his meeting with Allah was close.
On the day of the Great Pilgrimage in the tenth century of the Hijrah,
the Prophet went to the Mountain of Arafat
and on the Farewell Hajj, he invited the people to listen to the Final Sermon.
"Oh people! Hear me well!
For I know not whether after this year I shall ever be amongst you again.
Oh people!
Your life and your property are deemed sacred till the day you meet your Lord
they are just as sacred as this day and this month.
You will indeed meet your Lord and He will most certainly reckon your deeds.
I have conveyed the Message.
Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners.
All interest obligations shall be waived but your capital is yours to keep.
You will neither inflict, nor suffer, any inequity.
Remember what I say for I have indeed conveyed the Message.
I leave behind me two things.
If you follow them, you will never go astray.
The Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Message.
Oh people! Listen to what I say and understand it well.
Know that every Muslim is a Brother to every other Muslim
and that the Muslims are one Brotherhood.
Nothing which belongs to a Muslim will be legitimate to a fellow Muslim,
unless given freely.
Do not therefore, do injustice to yourselves.
Oh Allah! Have I conveyed the Message?"
Having led the Duhr and Asr Prayers,
the Prophet recited the final Revelation of the Qur'an.
"This day, I have perfected your Religion for you and completed My Favor upon you.
I've chosen for you Islam as your Religion"
And Abu Bakr wept.
And then came the painful day.
The Prophet was 63 years old.
On Monday, in Rabi' al-Awwal in the 13th year of the Hijrah,
Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, chose to meet his Lord
and Medina shook with sorrow.
No one could believe that the one who had been blessed by Allah and the Angels
was now entombed within the earth.
But Muhammad did die.
Thus Abu Bakr declared in the Prophet's Masjid,
"Oh people! Whoever worshipped Muhammad know that Muhammad is dead.
But he who worships Allah know that Allah is alive and will never die."
His noble body was buried where he died in his Masjid in Medina.
But his spirit remains and his Message will never die.
"Allah is the Greatest of all."
In light, the Companion of the Prophet continued to preach the Message
that we should worship none but Allah and not associate partners with Him.
and that we will not take anything else as a lord, beside Allah.
"Allah is the Greatest of all."
The Muslims, who had begun as a small group, soon became numerous in number
and the man who started it alone has now made a community
and that community gathers all its people around the Word of Allah.
"Oh Humankind! We have created you from a male and a female
and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another.
Verily, the most honorable of you before Allah is the most pious of you"
Allah and His Messenger have Spoken the Truth.
