I'm Christina.
You may know me from Flipping Houses.
This is way worse than I thought it was.
Oh, my gosh! It's like the whole house!
But it turns out, flipping houses was just the beginning.
Are you ready for the fun part?
- Absolutely. Let's do it! - Yeah!
This is very hacienda.
- It's a poured cement. - Whoa!
I've got a growing design business with an amazing team...
- Whoo! - Nice!
It's pretty!
I'm obsessed!
- You love it? - This looks incredible!
...and three kids that definitely keep me on my toes.
Bray-Bray, let's eat your breakfast without a pool toy.
I'm helping people create beautiful new spaces
to spend time with their families.
Wow! I can't believe this is my house.
Oh, my God! Christina, I'm blown away!
I can't believe it! Never thought I could have such a beautiful space.
And so far...
I'm loving the ride.

I'm stopping by a contractor Mike's office today
to check on some plans.
We have about eight projects going on right now.
We came up with some 3D.
Basically, it's gonna show the kitchen, how it's gonna look.
It looks pretty.
It's a huge island.
- Isn't that big? I think it's over like ten feet. - Yeah.
- Ten feet? - Yeah, I think so.
That's like the size of mine.
I know-- Actually, no. I think it's about 13.
- Thirteen? - Yeah, it's 13 feet.
- It's a big boy. - I know.
I know we have a lot going on right now,
but I'm about to hit him with another.
What's one more?
I got a lead on a new client.
- Okay. - They're newly married.
Their names are David and Odett.
Young family. They have a one-year old daughter.
They seem super sweet.
And basically, it's a tiny kitchen
that's kinda like peeling apart.
Is it old?
So, yeah. It's dark and dated.
You know, they look like old cabinets that just like--
You mean like those old brown ones they used to put in?
- Yes. - Yeah, yeah. Okay.
And look at that tiny island?
So they need an area where they can sit around, entertain.
This kitchen is just not doing it for them.
I'll go check it out, but I just want to make sure that
- you're cool and we can take this on. - I'm in.
- I'm up for it. - Okay. Cool.
All right! Could be a fun one!
- All right. Awesome. - See you soon.
- Have a good day. See you. - Okay, bye.
I'm actually really looking forward to this project.
David and Odett's house is near where I grew up
and it's always fun to be back in this area.
Their house is relatively new, so I'm curious to see what's going on inside.
- Hi. - Hi! Hi.
- Odett. Nice to meet you. - Hi. Christina. Nice to meet you.
- Hello. David. Nice to meet you as well. - So nice to meet you.
Beautiful home.
Oh, my gosh, guys, Your house is so clean.
Don't you have a daughter?
We have a 15-month-old.
This is like the cleanest house I've ever been in.
It's the cleanest, emptiest house.
- I guess, it's empty. - Yeah.
So we moved in about a year ago,
right after our daughter was born.
Yeah. Lot of our rooms don't actually have furniture.
We need help.
Once I see the rest of the house,
then we can start coming up with some ideas.
Yeah, you're right. This is meticulously neat.
Need some tips. Mine doesn't at all look this clean.
Okay. So, kitchen.
- Right this way. - I think we should just go straight to the point.
Okay.
It's really small and it's really dark.
- Tiniest island ever that-- - Tiniest island.
- It's really weird to hang around this. - Yeah, you can't.
We've had days where, you know, there's six or seven people
- and we're around this island and it feels very weird. - It's awkward.
Like, if you want to put your cocktails or even food down,
there's just not enough room.
The pantry doesn't work for me.
Um, I lack counterspace when I'm cooking.
So, I have no prep space.
We both like to cook.
But with the counterspace, it's just not functional for us.
If my wife's in the kitchen and I'm not there, it's functional.
If we're both in the kitchen, its non-functional.
Our cabinets, there is some finish that is peeling in random areas.
It definitely is time for an update.
Okay. Because the appliances look really new.
- Were those here? Okay. - Brand new.
So, assuming you obviously want to keep all the appliances.
Yes.
Okay. So I saw like, next to the stairs is a little wine fridge
and there's a little one there.
- Yes. - Are you into wine?
So we are a wine family.
My parents have a little winery.
So we highly, highly enjoy wine.
Except, we just don't have any space.
This is full.
The fridge that you saw in the front was full.
And then, we use our refrigerator and we add more wine in there.
Okay. I get it. We're gonna find a nice area...
- Oh, that would be great. - ...for you to enjoy it together.
You'll have your spot.
- That'll be awesome. - That'll be phenomenal.
It feels pretty traditional. Is that your style?
It's a traditional house, but I would say my style is more modern.
I love rustic. But I like a modern rustic
with, like, newer-looking countertops.
I would say, I'm more like a Flintstones, my wife is more like The Jetsons.
Okay. The Jetsons, I mean that's like crazy modern.
It's not that extreme,
but I do like light, bright, clean finishes.
Okay. So, is there anything in this house that represents you guys' style right now?
Is the upstairs remodeled?
It's not bad.
- Could we see it? - It's traditional, so not my style.
Okay. I'm sure it's clean. So, you guys aren't gonna be embarrassed.
I'm not trying to put them on the spot, but asking to see the rest of the house,
I can just tell that the downstairs is not their style.
Sometimes, getting a tour of the entire house can be really helpful for me
to see what a client really likes and doesn't like.
Pretty view.
Okay. So tell me about the style in here.
Like, the wood look and the rustic finish is just not my style.
It is my style.
But I would've like to go with something a little bit darker.
We couldn't agree on the furniture, the dressers in here.
You notice a trend, right?
I love this bathroom.
It's nice and dark. It's got lots of contrast.
- I mean, this looks fantastic. - Yeah, its soothing. I love the bathtub.
That's probably the one thing in this bathroom that I love
'cause it's more modern look.
It's very hard for me to understand why she doesn't like the rustic style.
Because rustic is old and it never gets old. Why?
Because... it's old.
- So it never goes out of style. - Never goes out of style.
- Rustic never goes out of style. - Oh, boy.
That's actually the first time I've ever heard that.
What's your occupation?
I am in IT.
Yes, so yes. My mom is in IT.
So I understand. It's logical, so it makes sense.
Nothing old can ever go out of style.
Is there anything that's modern that you want to show me?
Yes! There is one thing in this house that I got my way on.
Oh, yes!
This table. This is modern.
- Mmm-hm. - Clean, bright, modern.
You're like making a face. Like, this is too much to handle.
Earlier we talked about The Jetsons, right?
It's The Jetsons. Look at it. It's just too modern.
It's just our style is not the same.
- Okay. Okay. I got it. Let's go back. - All right.
Okay.
I think rustic to him means using darker colors
and natural elements like wood and stone,
which is pretty far from her light colors and metal finishes.
What are you guys looking to spend here?
-$80,000. - Perfect.
Okay. That's a really good budget to work with.
Okay. Here's what I'm thinking.
What I suggest is that we bring
this whole wall out and extend the kitchen to this wall.
I would suggest moving your double-oven
from over there to over here,
and we make this like an appliance/pantry wall.
Your refrigerator, double-oven and then a nice large pantry.
- The tiny island will be gone. - Okay.
Then over here, since the double-ovens will be switched,
this will all be prep space.
You'll still have your stove here,
and sink, and dishwasher there as well.
But on this wall, we would extend the lowers
all the way to where the window is.
Which is going to give you about six feet more of kitchen space,
- which is huge. - Oh, wow.
And then we bring out a nice, large peninsula.
You guys can hang out around it.
We'll do an overhang, so you guys can sit here as well.
And that'll make the kitchen feel literally, twice as big.
That sounds amazing.
Yeah, sounds good.
So, if you're good with everything,
I can have my contractor, Mike, come out,
we can get everything demoed and get going.
- We're ready. Let's do it! - Let's do it.
- How's it going? - Good.
Question. Are they keeping this fridge?
They were planning on keeping everything, yeah.
- Right? - Yes.
Why? Did it break? What happened?
No, no. Nothing broke. But...
The thing is it's not counter depth, so...
out to here, it's almost 35 inches.
Where does the counter end?
In comparison, how many inches is that?
Over eight and a half inches.
Wow! Then it would just stick out like this?
Or we bring everything out to this depth.
But then, I feel like the peninsula's here,
I feel like it could get tight.
Demoing the space really revealed how big the fridge is.
And if we build the kitchen around this space,
I don't think it's gonna have that custom look that they want.
It's either like, we do a smaller peninsula
and then we have this bigger area over here,
or...
we get a new fridge and we have a big peninsula and more room to walk.
'Cause eight inches, that's a lot.
I gotta tell you, there's nothing in this kitchen that I picked out,
except for that right there.
- Oh, no. - So getting rid of it is... I don't know.
I mean, I hate having anyone spend extra money,
especially we're at the beginning of the project.
But ultimately, in this kitchen, we wanted to create more space.
So by gaining that extra foot, I think you'll be happy.
You can definitely sell this and recoup, like, minimum half
- of what you paid. - That's true.
If we have to do it, then...
let's just do it.
- Okay. - All right!
- Here we go. One small change order. - All right.
Maybe.
I hate spending money on a new fridge,
but I also know it doesn't make sense to have a cramped kitchen
because I'm attached to an appliance.
And listen, if I get a new fridge,
maybe I can get one with a smart screen.
On top of David and Odett's renovation,
I'm also working on a project in La Jolla,
which is about an hour south of Newport.
Hey, Christina!
Hey, Brian. How are you?
I'm doing great. How about you?
Good! I was actually wanting to take James down to La Jolla
and show him the project.
That way he can start helping me with it.
Yeah, sure. No problem.
I met with the owner Brian and his daughter, Alana,
last week to walk the space.
The entire project is design. There is no renovation.
And he has about $50,000 to spend on furnishing it.
I came in to look at this place,
and I walked up into this room, I looked straight up there
and I said to myself, I'm doing everything in my power to get this place.
- That is beautiful. - Oh, my gosh!
Just got better!
This is peace and tranquility.
But...
it really doesn't feel like our own place until you work some magic on it.
Well, what's your style?
Uh... you have full authority to do whatever you want
- with this place. - Oh, yeah? Whatever I want?
You just gave me the best project ever.
I'm gonna be, off and on, out of town.
I got a lot of business stuff coming up.
So, feel free, you and James, to have at it.
Okay, I know that you've worked super, super hard for this place
and it's just like your ultimate dream,
so I'm so happy to be able to
help you dial it and make it the perfect place for you to go.
Please work some magic and we know you'll kill it.
- Take care. - Safe travels.
- Okay. Bye-bye. - Bye.
Before I can take James down to La Jolla,
there is an issue that popped up at David and Odett's that cannot be ignored.
How is she liking the construction zone?
Where's the kitchen?
Who knows, huh? It's gone?
Is it in there?
We have a child with us, so no bad news allowed.
- No bad news? - Yes!
- See? - Wow, okay.
All right, so...
Now, now.
I knew when we got into the closet,
we're gonna have the AC ducting
- and the vacuum. - Yeah?
But, do you guys see this right here?
It says gas, in big letters.
- Yeah. - Yeah.
This is the main for the house.
- For the whole house? - It comes through here.
- What a... weird spot. - Yeah.
We, first of all, got rid of the refrigerator
so we don't have to design around it.
And now, we have this random gas pipe
that we're gonna have to design around.
- I know. - So what do we have to do with this?
Are we supposed to move it? Or...
We can move it...
but you'll have to redo the whole line underneath the ground.
I mean, we can spend like $3,000 just moving the gas line.
- Mmm-hm - Oh, wow.
This is the main for the house.
We can move it, but...
I mean, we can spend like $3,000 just moving the gas line.
- Mmm-hm. - Oh, wow.
So right here was gonna be the refrigerator.
- And then the oven? - And then the oven.
So it'll just be a small little cabinet, and then the oven.
And then the rest of it would be the pantry.
- Got it. - For $3,000,
I say, we just leave it there.
And we can just create a small cabinet right here,
and no one will ever know it's there besides you guys.
So it looks like it's part of the cabinet,
but when you open it, it's just shallow.
- Let's just go with that. - Yeah.
I agree.
- Hundred percent. It's a lot to spend. - Yeah.
- All right. - All right, Avery. Let's get out of this construction zone.
It's coming out of your college fund.
Oh, that's brutal!
I'm bringing James down to La Jolla today.
He hasn't seen the space yet
and I can't wait to show him everything I'm thinking.
This is the first project where he and I have had the owner's full permission
to do pretty much whatever we want.
I can't wait.
Can we go in the water first?
- We can go in the water when we're done. - Okay.
First work, then play. Okay.
So, scrap all the furniture. It's all too modern.
What size couch do you think we can get in here?
I don't like the look of the double couch that he has going.
We can probably go 90 inches.
- Okay, so a nice sofa right here. - Yeah.
So I was thinking like a beachy-vibe, little bit of boho.
Yeah.
My thing to him was, I just said like, we need to soften it up a little bit.
What if we kinda,
balance the grey with the lighter earth tones in this?
I like that.
And the kitchen is crazy modern!
And then we have this harsh counter so...
- Lots of accessories. Tons. - Accessories, accessories, accessories.
Now, let's go look at the bedroom.
Wow!
Can you imagine. This is your view when you wake up in the morning?
Yes, I can.
And I will.
What's kinda weird about here, and I need you help.
Whoever designed this, did it sort of awkward
because when you open the door
you can't have patio furniture.
You can't at all.
Of course, you're gonna wanna sit out here.
But what do you do? There's no room.
So, it's almost like we need to find a place to store it somewhere inside.
That way you can have some...
- cute chairs. - Yeah, we'll figure that out.
- Is that kinda weird? - Well, couple of chairs...
That can go out there.
- Okay. - Outdoor fabric.
- Perfect. All right. - Yeah.
Not much in here, but it just feels a little sterile.
- A little cold. - It does.
- We can work on that. - Again, the view.
- Okay! All right. - Oh, my gosh! Right? Whoo!
Okay, this is what we have to concentrate on.
- Seriously! I'm not even kidding! - I know.
So pretty, right?
This area, he was really excited about.
So he wants this to be a total entertaining area.
- Yeah. - Lots of seating, so.
I think this can be awesome.
- I'm down. - I know. Dream come true.
Now that we've walked the space,
we'll start pulling options for furniture and fabrics.
What I love about this project
is it shows you don't always have to gut a space to transform it.
This is my favorite day.
- All right! - Design day.
We did have one question
- we wanted to ask. - Mmm-hm?
The oven that we had over there on the wall,
we were thinking about just getting the oven under our stove,
- so we can gain more cabinet space. - Okay.
This is actually a great change.
By losing those wall ovens,
we could scoot the fridge down and build a bigger bank of cabinets around it,
while still hiding the gas line.
That would definitely flow a lot better
with the fridge being more centered.
- You guys want to do that? - For sure!
Okay! That's great news. I'll let Mike know about that.
And now, we can get to the fun stuff...
- Yes! - Design.
- David, do you mind moving that table to the middle? - Absolutely.
Since they're struggling to blend their styles,
I bought a few more options than I normally would,
to make sure that we get everyone on the same page.
So we'll start with like, the most like, basic one,
white shaker.
Then we have...
a light grey.
- Okay? - Okay.
We could go... blue.
And then we have...
the whitewashed oak.
Showing materials to homeowners
can go one of two ways.
Either they're super excited or they get really quiet.
When this happens, I just keep explaining what I'm thinking.
That way, they have time to process everything.
With all these, we can play around with them.
You could do, like, white uppers
and grey lowers.
You could do white uppers, wood lowers.
What are you guys thinking?
I don't like this.
I like that one.
If you blend them together, the modern-rustic, I think it looks really, really good.
- Look how good that looks. - Mm-mm.
You don't like that?
- No. - Okay.
Let's play around with backsplash and counters.
Okay.
This is a quartz marble with a nice veining.
- Love that! - Yeah, looks really good.
- We have pull handles. Brushed brass. - Okay.
- I think I really like the brushed brass. - I like it.
And then, we have a backsplash.
Ooh!
The backsplash has a modern geometric pattern
that she will like.
But it's in a natural marble texture that he will love.
The countertop is clean-modern for her,
but still has stone veining for him.
I mean, I actually like the backsplash on there.
I like it too.
I mean, it's definitely modern,
but it has a rustic kinda design.
I really like the countertops.
I like the backsplash.
I like the two-tone.
I can go with white uppers and the blue,
or white with the grey.
What do you think, honey?
- I mean, if we did like this-- - No.
- This? No? - No!
- Yes. Maybe? - No.
- Just the blue? Okay. - Just-- No.
This...
looks good on both.
I mean, I'll be honest.
I like the blue a little bit better than this grey.
I just think that it brings some contrast.
I love the blue.
I think the blue cabinets and that backsplash
will really compliment each other.
Even though what they decided leans more towards her modern look,
I have an idea that will bring in more of his style.
I want to make sure they're both happy.
I love it!
Oh, my gosh! We're making progress.
- Yes! Thank you. - All right.
I know we're talking about this room and how there's this dead space
- and obviously, there's no furniture in here. - Yup.
So what I was thinking is, I know you guys are big wine lovers,
your parents own a winery,
what if we create like a cool wine room?
- I think that's a great idea. - That'll be great.
I notice you have like a wine cooler
under the stairs right here.
- Yes, we do have that there. - Okay.
To create this bar area,
we can move the wine fridge they already have,
but I think we're gonna need a second one.
And then, we can create some shelving around it.
So, some lowers.
And then we can do some nice floating shelves above it.
Yeah. I think it would look great.
I like the floating shelf idea.
Put some wine on display, some cups, make it real cute.
- I like it. - Okay.
So, we could go with white lowers,
or we can bring back the rustic vibe
- that David loves and we can go with the whitewash. - I like it.
It's a centerpiece and I think
you know, with the wine, we kinda talked about how timeless it is...
Well...
I know your face is like, not you again!
But the reason why I brought it back is because
wine has that kind of rustic vibe.
It's pretty subtle and I think the floating shelves would look really nice.
- Yeah. - I mean, it's gonna look really good in this area.
- You want all of it with the... rustic? - I mean, we can--
I think we can put a rustic feel to it,
because its wine, its timeless.
We could go with white lowers
- or we could go with the whitewash. - I like it.
It's a centerpiece and I think you know, with the wine,
we kinda talked about how timeless it is.
- You want all of it with the... rustic? - I mean, we can--
I think we can put a rustic feel to it,
because it's wine, its timeless.
I mean, think about it.
The kitchen's really modern, right?
So, I think if we can go a little bit more rustic on the wine part?
Please, please!
I mean, I know he really loves that.
Um...
I can compromise.
Thanks, babe.
You're the best.
Let's do it.
This wine bar is going to look amazing.
You'll see.
And then you'll want more rustic throughout the entire house.
Unlikely.
- Hi. I have smoothies. - Hi!
They ran out of large cups.
So who gets the large?
- You. Because I'm a team player. - So kind of you.
Okay. So...
Mmm-hm.
La Jolla.
So what I'm thinking is...
'Cause the house is so modern and sterile,
I want to soften it a lot.
I would love to do like a light, white sofa.
- Oh, that would be fun. - Right?
But then, add pops of color with our normal,
like the rugs and the plants and the crystals and everything.
Agreed.
People are gonna be coming in with the sand and the ocean
and so like, the materials need to be ocean-proof.
- So these are all indoor-outdoor fabrics. - Sure.
The main floor bedroom, something different for that room,
like, more masculine.
- How about swivel chairs? - Ooh!
I mean, when you sit in it, it's like you're in a race car.
- Yeah. - Okay?
- Roof. - Lounge chairs.
We need to get rid of this spa.
Okay, perfect. He actually doesn't even want that anyway.
But, I feel like it's a waste to totally get rid of it.
I think we should move it to the grass area.
We'll have to get a crane.
Yeah. That way Alana can use that with some friends.
If I were a teenager, this is where I would want to be.
There and the beach.
Of course you would.
- Sneaking boys into the backdoor? - Exactly.
And she'll have a spa, she'll have some chairs,
we'll do some rugs, we'll do some poufs.
- Let's get it done. - And he said we can stay there while we were doing it, so.
- Okay! Even more fun. - I know. Even better.
We have free reign. So order away.
- I will. - Thanks for the juice too.
Thank you. I'll drink my small little juice over here.
Down in La Jolla, we've hired a crew to move the hot tub
from the rooftop deck down to the backyard space
that we're designing for Alana.
Between that and my other reno projects,
things are crazy.
But making time to hang out with my best friend, Cassie, is always a must.
That looks tasty.
It's so good. The sweet pepper relish...
Everyone loves it. We love making it.
- You want to try a little bit? On a little cucumber? - Yeah. Of course.
It's so good.
I put it on all our charcuterie boards.
- Mmm... - Isn't it so good?
- It's like a gift. - You know, it's not so bad.
What's going on? How are you?
Um... I'm good.
Just got a lot of projects going.
I have that project in La Jolla.
I was about to ask you. How's that going?
Um... really good. It's right on the water.
We need to do a girls' weekend there.
I am ready. Sign me up.
- I can use a little, nice little few day away. - Yes!
- Actually, James is shopping for it right now. - He is?
- Do you want to say hi to him? - Yeah!
I haven't seen James so long.
- Oh, my! - Hi!
Hi, James. How are you?
- I'm good! How are you? - I'm good!
Oh, my gosh! You look very busy.
I have been busy. How's your James?
My James is good.
He's gonna need a nickname.
- I know. I know. - Chef James.
Chef James.
I can't wait to meet him. I have not met him yet.
- You haven't met him? - We need to change that as soon as possible.
Yes, I'm at the house. It's a little chaotic, so...
when are you coming?
I'll be there soon.
I have a bunch of stuff I need to bring down
- but like-- - What's in the background?
Oh, my Lord! James!
It's getting worse before it's getting better.
Oh, man. You guys have some work left to do.
Okay, we're gonna go upstairs.
- Oh, my gosh. - So jealous right now.
Oh, that's not so bad for a day in the office.
- Yeah! - I was literally just sitting here telling Cassie
that you're running around shopping for this project,
but you're just like chilling on the water.
I mean, life's rough. Right, James?
Most of the furniture's here and are stuffed on back orders.
There's so much more to do.
Well, I can't wait to have a cocktail on that balcony with you.
I can't either!
- All right, I'll see you soon. Have fun. - Bye, James.
Oh, my gosh.
You know, I have a beautiful view...
- with the freeway. - Exactly.
One day it will be the ocean.
- Just put it out there. That's right. - Heck, yeah. Mm-hm.
Wow!
- These look beautiful! - Yeah! Thank you.
Yeah, no, I'm loving it!
Look at that peninsula too. It's huge!
I just feel like there's some things that...
that we can change
- to make it a little bit-- - Change! What?
- Well-- - His idea, keep in mind.
We're not exactly on the same page on it.
- Oh... Yeah, what are we talking about? - How big of a change?
I just feel like there's some things that...
that we can change
- to make it a little bit-- - Change! What?
We're not exactly on the same page on it.
- Oh... Yeah, what are we talking about? - How big of a change?
Originally, we were gonna buy the new fridge.
Right? And the fridge was gonna have the smart screen?
But I think what we can do is instead of putting it on the refrigerator,
we can buy a different refrigerator and put the screen here.
Wait. Wait. I'm so confused.
So the hood is a TV?
It's almost like a huge tablet.
You can get notifications from the laundry,
- from the dishwasher, has a camera on it. - This is my tech husband.
He finds... I mean, I don't--
- This is what I live with. - You get it?
No, but I kinda like it though. I'm not gonna lie.
Explain how it looks. I'm so confused.
So... so basically,
it's a screen that goes up.
We will have to build some sort of cabinet,
and then, it'll mount on the inside of the cabinet.
So it does change the layout quite a bit,
- because-- - So here's the problem with this.
The idea was to take the backsplash through the chimney hood.
So now with this new idea of his,
it's gonna take away from the backsplash.
So, what would we have to change? What's the cost?
It sounds like we're gonna have to do a whole another cabinet above it.
'Cause I have to hide the duct in. That's the only thing.
- Right. - But, at the same time,
we were gonna do tile all the way up.
So it could end up being a wash, honestly.
We've never done it. Now everyone's gonna want it.
- Oh! - So, we good to go?
Are you in on it?
All right. I'm in.
I'm not gonna lie. I'm kinda excited. I wanna see it.
- See! - See! It is cool!
- Thank you. - All right! Well!
- Starting a new trend. - I'm excited to see this.
I want to create a seating area next to the bar,
so I'm taking them to a home store in Newport Beach that I love.
I have a few pieces in mind to show them,
including a few from my own furniture line.
So what I envision is four comfy chairs facing each other,
nice coffee table in the middle,
kind of a conversation area
where you guys can be having some wine or relaxing.
I like that.
These are like a little more traditional vibe.
These I'm sure are really comfortable.
- Swivel chairs. - Oh, look at that.
Oh, yeah. What about these, honey?
- Little Sherpa. It's a little hard. - Poor sheep.
Poodles. Poodles.
Yeah, I really doubt these are your style.
Okay, so, I want you to try these.
These are really, really nice.
I see stuff here that, David, you might really like.
Yeah, I did have my eye on something.
Look at this.
Take a look at this!
It's definitely a conversation piece.
That is not mine.
Let me just see how it feels. Oh, this is not bad.
You gotta sit in this.
There is no way you're gonna tell me that is more comfortable than this.
When you see the way this hand
grips you butt...
It's just... this is nice.
Just sit in it. Take a look at it.
That's fascinating.
- Oh, ow! - You like it?
You don't like this?
Honey, that's so hard!
- Listen, the world is in your hands. - Come and check these out.
- Yeah, I like this. - Oh, these are comfortable.
- They match the cabinets. - Yeah. They're rustic.
And I like that they're big, because it is a big space.
So four of them will fill that space really nicely.
I want to order them now.
- Now! Let's do it. - Right now.
- You want the hand too? - I would like the hand, too.
It's only $1,000.
If we get a five-finger discount, I'll take it.
Hey, guys!
That's like a computer.
It is a computer.
So me being the guy that I am, of course,
I pre-programmed it.
If you want to take a recording of the food that you're cooking,
you can actually change the camera and it will show you
the food that you're cooking at the time.
- You can take a picture of that. - Cool.
You can upload it to your favorite social media.
I'll call Christina while I'm cooking a new recipe
and say, "Let's check this out."
Okay, so, if you want to check something out...
- It's pretty cool if you want to teach me about it. - Just check this out.
There we go.
So now you can see all the cameras that we have in the house.
You can see the kids room. You can see the front door.
We can turn the lights on and off...
- Oh, okay. That's-- - Straight from here.
That's cool. Why do I have to come here to turn off the lights?
- I could just turn off the lights... - It's just one of many.
They're laughing now, but I'm just a trendsetter.
I'm telling you,
soon enough, everyone will have one.
Mmm-hm.
Well, we're almost done, believe it or not.
If you guys don't mind,
I'm gonna ask that you guys stay out of this side of the house.
James and I are gonna work on all the finishing touches,
and I want it to be a surprise, next time you see it.
We will stay out.
- Deal? - Deal.
Okay.
With so much to do,
James and I are playing divide and conquer.
He's down in La Jolla working on Brian's house,
and I'm putting the final touches on David and Odette's kitchen.
You guys have been living in the bonus room,
and cooking up there and not been able to enjoy any of your downstairs.
Huge transformation.
- How are you guys feeling? - We are very, very excited.
- Let's do it. - All right. Won't make you wait any longer.
- Wow! - Oh, my gosh!
Wow!
All right. Won't make you wait any longer.
Here you go.
Wow!
- Oh, my gosh! - Whoo!
Wow!
Shut the front door!
This looks amazing.
- Oh, my goodness! - Look at the bar!
Remember before, this was just dead space?
There was nothing here and there was no purpose.
I'm so glad we're able to create this rustic zone over here.
It looks amazing.
- This looks just... - It doesn't look the same.
I can't believe that this is even our house right now.
It's such a cute adult space too.
Oh, and it's so comfortable, these chairs.
- No, I love it. - They look great in this room.
And they actually go with the cabinetry,
like almost perfectly.
Your guests come over and now the first thing they see
is gonna be your wine area, not just a blank wall.
I know it has more of the rustic vibe that David likes,
but, Odett, now that it's all together,
what do you think?
It looks much better when it's all come together.
It's not as rustic as I... you know, was scared of.
- So I think it came together. - Modern-rustic.
- That's what this is. - Yeah, and all the touches are really nice.
And... it came together very well.
'Cause before, you had that little wine station
- under the stairs... - Yes.
...and now you have a whole zone.
We have so much space.
- We need to get more wine. Yeah. - Yeah.
I love the wine bar.
I'm excited to be able to use it.
I really feel like now we're gonna be able to hang out
and enjoy with our family and friends.
The whole thing just came out really great.
I am obsessed with your kitchen.
- Wow! Look at this! - This kitchen!
The backsplash. Wow.
- So pretty. - Yeah, it's very--
And the blue just brings out all the colors.
And I love that we did the backsplash around the windows,
it draws your eye up...
The contrast, it just looks great,
like, the small... like, details, like,
the gold trimming on the backsplash,
- just give it such a different look and feel. - Yes!
This is amazing.
I'm so glad we went with the brass hardware.
I feel like that really adds pop too.
Not having the island in the middle, it looks ten times bigger.
Look at all this space that we have.
Just bringing it out that much with the peninsula
makes it feel like it's twice as big.
The kitchen that we had before had this small island in the middle,
so you had a really small island inside of a small kitchen.
And now I feel like, this is how the kitchen should have originally been designed.
It's really fantastic.
It definitely feels modern.
Yes.
- I love the waterfall edge. - Yes.
And, you have your TV!
I just think it would look better with my--
I'm definitely gonna use it for recipes,
it's there now and it does look good.
And then before, you had the pantry
and there was a gas line over here
but we hid it perfectly
by just enclosing it and honestly, you'd never know it was there.
Never know.
And you had to get a new refrigerator,
but look at this sleek, modern fridge.
- Yes! - Yes.
It was 100% the best call to get rid of our old fridge
and get a new fridge that was counter-depth.
Definitely, 'cause our new kitchen now looks seamless.
- These rooms just felt super separated... - Yes.
...and now it feels just like one, big entertaining area.
And I love how we have barstools here,
this is something we did not have before.
- Totally, it has the best flow now. - Fantastic.
Are you guys excited to have your house back?
That is-- Yeah. - Yes!
- That's an understatement. - This is my dream kitchen.
I'm so glad you guys are happy and love it,
and it was so much fun working, you guys.
We could have not done any of this without you.
Worth the wait. Thank you so much.
I'm so glad you love it.
I think overall, our styles came together.
And I can't wait to start cooking.
I'm excited about just having, you know, friends and family over again.
- Christina... Christina hit it out the park. - Yeah. I agree.
You can play right there in the kitchen.
Since we have so much room now.
With David and Odett settling back into their house,
I'm headed down to La Jolla to help James finish up with that project.
Hey!
- Hi! - I'll be right down.
So excited!
Just never, ever gonna get sick of that view.
- Or used to it. - I know.
- Let's go look at it. - Okay, okay, all right.
- Easy to get distracted but we got a lot of work to do. - Here, gimme that.
The house is gonna be completely dialed.
Like, he just shows up and he can make a sandwich.
Hey, just like we promised.
Can you imagine just sitting here and cooking and hearing the waves crash?
Like, I feel like I would actually become a really good cook, you know.
Well, let's get this done and then we don't have to imagine it.
I love this, like, bar area that used to just be cabinets.
Look how cute it is.
I love this table. I like that the chairs are durable.
You can spill stuff on them, don't have to worry about it.
This house literally looks totally different
and we spent no money on construction.
I know. Who needs contractors.
Yeah, exactly.
Okay.
I like the fact that we're doing a ton of seating,
but it doesn't look like a ton of seating.
No, it's so open.
Can you imagine, like, if this was your life
and every morning you woke up to this?
- Yeah! - Like, is this real life?
- Makes you wanna make your bed, huh? - It really does.
I feel like I just wouldn't get outta bed.
I'd just become this, like... sloth.
- Just-- - Well, look where you are.
- Who wouldn't want to just lounge. - Oh, my gosh.
What is a bedroom without a crystal.
- Got some good vibes going. - You have to be protected on both sides.
- Yup. - You know, I'm really liking these white ones.
I don't know why, but they speak to me.
- White crystals speak to me. - Oh, that's love and light.
- Really? - Yes.
- I guess I'm bringing love and light. - Yes, you are.
So I feel like this room,
was actually, probably the most complicated room,
because, it's just-- everything's grey.
And it feels sorta like a hospital.
- Oh, this is perfect. - Yeah, it's really nice.
- It totally breaks it up 'cause it's got pattern. - Yeah.
- Softens it, adds a nice vibe. - Yeah, I love it.
Me too.
Like, the vibe totally shifted from sterile to relaxing.
And that view, even from here...
Incredible.
Whoo!
It's gonna be a lot of exercise!
Now that the spa's gone and we have the room,
we can flip the table, this way.
Got it?
It's gonna drop.
Ahh!
I told you it's gonna drop.
James and I try to think of every detail.
From the coffee cups to the toilet paper, even the lounge chair settings.
- This is just wonderful. - Okay.
- Why don't you be in charge of the cocktails? - All right.
The house is coming together and Brian will be here to see it tomorrow.
But now it's time to celebrate with my specialty...
Ah! Strong.
Dirty Martinis.
- Cheers. I love you. - Cheers. I love you, too.
- Thank you so much for all your help. - Oh, team effort.
It... it came out perfectly.
- Oh, it's a damn good olive. - Mmm.
- I know what I'm doin'-- I know! - Wow!
- That's like one of the best I've had. - I know, I told you.
Like, you cannot buy the store-bought kind.
You have to, like, get your own blue cheese and stuff 'em in olives.
It's crucial.
Couple more of these, I'm gonna get you out there in the water.
Couple more of these and I might do it.
- Hi! How are you? - Christina! How are you?
- It's so good to see you. - How's it going?
- Good. How are you? - Good seeing you.
- It's been a while. - Big day.
- Are you excited? - Oh. Yeah.
I had trouble sleeping last night.
- Really? - Really lookin' forward to this, yeah.
- You haven't peeked? - Just got here.
- You haven't drove by and snuck in? - That--
I have not been to this place since we first met you.
- Okay. - So I can't wait.
- Okay, here we go. - Welcome to your beach house.
Oh, my gosh!
Look at this.
- Am I in the same place? - Right?
This looks totally different.
I mean this... actually looks like a beach home now.
- Oh, good. - This is epic.
We really focused on making the space more inviting
with natural textures and warm tones.
In the kitchen, we played up the natural colors
in the cabinets and countertops for a boho, beachy vibe.
- Like, you've stuff. - Oh, my gosh!
Just so you know, I had nothing when I bought this place.
I know you didn't.
- Nothing. Look at this. - Now you literally have everything that you need.
Oh, my gosh. I mean, I don't think I've ever owned one of these.
- You've never owned a knife set? - I have not, I'm a guy!
- I'm a single guy. Come on. - How do you cut?
- This is like... - You don't... you don't, like, cut?
I'm gonna be cutting now.
I'll be doing more cutting now that we've got this.
- Okay, now, walk down here. There's so much more to see. - Oh, geez.
Okay, wow.
We tried to create a ton of seating
that's movable, so all these chairs,
everything's indoor-outdoor fabric, so it's super durable.
And they're lightweight so you can pick them up,
turn them around, look at the ocean.
These poufs, you can sit on.
So you can pick a chair up and...
- Enjoy the view. - There you go. Sit in a chair.
I'm beyond the moon.
It's incredible. And even what you're sitting on.
- What're these called? - Yeah, it's a pouf.
- Pouf, right? - Yeah.
- You can put the pouf right out here and... - Yeah.
- ...watch the sunset, right? - Exactly.
Yeah.
All right, this is actually,
probably my favorite room in the house you're about to see.
Welcome to your room.
- This was the grayest room of them all. - Okay.
So we really tried to soften it up,
with a masculine touch too, so it doesn't feel too feminine.
Love the carpets, by the way.
- Good . - These are, like, beautiful.
This is literally the best bedroom I've ever seen in my entire life.
Oh, my God. The-- oh, sheets.
I feel like I'm in a castle, like a castle with a beach.
- Can I sit on it or... - Yeah. Yeah, it's yours.
- What do you mean, can you-- this is your place. - Ah! Ah.
- I'm kinda getting used to the fact that it's now my place. - Yeah, it's your house.
I moved out here with $50 in my pocket
from Western Pennsylvania.
And it's just-- it's a lot for me to take in that now this is my place.
Like, I'm so not used to having something like this.
- But I have to tell you... - Sweet.
I mean, you have literally...
helped us with a dream come true.
- Here we just added a few accessories... - Beautiful.
This is like... the little tray is...
perfect, you can even put a candle on there I think.
I mean, I really appreciate that.
- Well you've worked extremely hard for this house. - It's helping me feel-- Yeah.
And we want it to feel like
a perfect sanctuary for you to come relax.
- So I'm glad that, that's what it's feeling like. - Yeah.
You deserve it.
- Oh, my gosh. - Right?
- Right... - So we wanted this to have, like, the indoor-outdoor vibe.
Right? So you still feel like you're inside,
relaxing, having dinner, entertaining.
This is incredible.
It's gonna create lifelong memories
for you and your family.
- There's one more thing. - Oh, no.
It's kind of a surprise for Alana.
- Let's go check it out. - Okay.
Oh, my God. Are you kidding me?
- This is-- - This is the spa that was on the roof?
- Yeah! Isn't it cute? - Okay, well--
Picture Alana hanging out here with girlfriends--
- Her? What about me? - Oh, you like this area?
- I wanna be hanging out-- I mean... - Oh!
I have thoroughly enjoyed doin' this for you,
and I hope you create amazing memories here and slow down
and relax and enjoy the view.
You're a magician. You have
done such an epic job of bringing this joy into our world.
You are welcome to come here any time you want.
- I would love to. This is my favorite house. Ever. - You got it. Deal?
- Deal? All right. - Yup. Yup.
- So happy you love it - Thank you so much.
And I hope Alana loves it as well.
Yeah, she's gonna be thrilled. For sure.
- This is the-- look at the kitchen area. - Wow!
It looks so good.
Look at... look at what Christina did here.
I'm so thrilled that Brian loves
everything that we did for his beach house.
He's so excited to show Alana and I hope that she likes it just as much as he does.
- Open up. - Oh, my gosh!
It's so nice!
Wow. This looks, like, relaxing. I like this.
It's just like, honestly, a dream come true
that she actually did it for us.
- I'm really, like, glad she's able to do this. - Awesome.
These last few weeks have been beyond busy,
but I love helping couples and clients find their styles.
Seeing them happy in their new spaces,
makes all the hard work worth it.
