Just like, you know, trying to move with both of them, but it was fine.

But now that I feel like we're in and we're settled,

the bedroom and the bathroom, the bathroom really,

it's just, like, not functional, like, how it's set up.

Everything is wrong.

So I was thinking, maybe,

you could help me and we could do it.

I would love to. Plus, you're, like, literally two blocks away, right?

I know. And I feel like it has the potential.

I love working with my friends on their homes

The annoying part is our bathroom is so not functional

Someone's sleeping, the shower's on, it's noisy.

- Oh, yeah. - There's no privacy when you walk in there.

He's a stuntman, so he wakes up super-early, 4:00 or 5:00 a.m.,

or gets home really late.

- So it's loud. She hears the shower. - Or uses the shower.

Wakes her up, I get yelled at.

It definitely needs to be, like, modernized and changed.

And this is like my little dorm room shower.

- It's just... Basically, it's... - Oh, my God.

- Yeah. That is that. - And it's so slippery.

And this weird stepdown.

- It's slippery? - This gets really slick

- and then... You need to hear it. - It's so slippery.

If she's sleeping, that goes on

and that goes through here, 'cause there's no wall...

Well, plus... Okay, yeah, it's bright, it's loud.

- The lights are on-- - It's not a good...

It's kind of a habit. You have to step down in this little spot

- and it's, like, you slip all the time. It's like-- - Yeah.

The slippery part makes me very uncomfortable just like that.

No, it is so slippery getting out.

Like, you have to be careful.

Because it looks cool, but yeah, it's like, so shiny.

And there's, like, this random wall, and then our vanity's over here

- and it's super dark over here. - Oh, yeah.

And it's a small vanity for such a big bathroom.

It's almost like... It's so weird, 'cause it's two separate spaces.

It's like, does that even make sense?

There's no reason for the wall.

There's just... I feel like the whole bathroom has pointless space.

So I end up, like, leaning a mirror over here

- and just stand here... - Uh-huh.

Or sit on the floor and do my makeup, because I can't see.

What's strange is, like, this is a big bathroom.

- It's just there's this big wall in the middle... - Yeah.

...so you can't have a double vanity.

And a house this size

I like a lot of busyness when I walk into a house.

But she's little more boring, she's little more, like,

nudes and beige and-- I wouldn't say boring.

So if she got on my level,

And so our closet is behind this wall.

This is, like, the most awkward closet I've ever seen.

It is so narrow.

It's, like, so hard to even walk in and, like, see anything.

It's so sad, 'cause you have such nice shoes.

- Mm. You can't see them. - No.

And then, he's shoved in this weird little pocket corner over here.

I want, like, half of that closet over here or something.

- Uh-oh. - Something needs to happen.

It's got to be, like, an addition or something,

because it is such an afterthought that it just doesn't make any sense.

Like, I kind of feel like the closet used to be

where all that... Like the desk is.

And then, these built-ins...

- Do you use them? - No, we don't use them.

I don't know why do we need a desk in our bedroom.

It's just wasted space over there.

The setup is so weird in here and I feel like,

it could be utilized a lot better.

We'd like to keep it around 80.

I think we can definitely work with 80.

It could go up, though. It could go, you know, as much as 100

depending on materials that you choose...

...because I know you like, you know, nice things.

So that being said, I have some ideas.

Okay, so, over here,

I think that this closet should go.

But we can turn it into a private water closet.

And that way we have a lot more space in the bathroom to work with.

That would mean, you guys share a closet over here,

but I think we should bump this wall out a couple feet to about right here.

That way you have a massive walk-in closet.

It'll actually be a much bigger space.

That's a good compromise. - Yeah.

And then, I like the idea of clearing out all this built-in stuff

and putting your TV over on this wall.

- Yeah, I like that. - I like that.

- Now the bathroom. - Now the bathroom.

I love the ceilings and I love the sky light.

What I would love to do is

bump out this low ceiling right here, open it up...

Open this wall up, open this wall up.

Just make this one big room like it should be,

and create another skylight on this side as well

to give you more natural light.

We will close off these two entrances

and create one normal entrance with a door,

so you have some privacy.

You need a double vanity.

So, I propose that we create a large double vanity on this side of the wall.

And I would love to give you an area to do your makeup as well.

What I would love to do for you guys, is create a wet room.

so I'm meeting today with Mike and them

to talk about bumping out the exterior wall

and creating a larger second closet.

You have a huge yard and I can tell that you don't really use this area.

Because this is just a waste of space right here.

So, I feel like this is a great spot for the closet.

Basically, the closet that she's currently in,

would turn into Jeff's closet.

You would walk through Jeff's closet

and then you would enter Whitney's closet.

Because that's the old closet so there could just be, right, like a door right there.

So, I mean, I think we gotta keep

the same setback from the rest of the house.

We started demo, and then we had plans at the city,

and they were going through plan check, and so we figured,

okay, let's like, at least get started while we're waiting.

- Well, they came back with plan corrections. - Oh, no.

- So, it was a 15-day hold... - Yeah.

Now it's another two-week hold

- for the corrections. - What?

Yeah, it's nothing to do with the work, it's just notes on the plan.

- Two weeks? - Two weeks, mandatory.

When the city makes just the smallest changes to our plans,

we have to make the required adjustments

and then resubmit them for approval.

Unfortunately, they're pretty backed up right now.

We're gonna be in a holding pattern until they can be reviewed.

So, now what? Now we have to be, like, in standstill, just like this?

- Yeah. - Well, I'll let them know.

- And there's nothing we can do. - That's it. Okay.

I really feel for Whitney and Jeff.

This is our second delay in one month.

First the termites, and now this. I just hate having to make this call.

So, say we do that back wall and this back wall, we're in budget.

If we carry the tile all through the shower,

like, it would be probably and extra $5,000.

So, it would be either, spend the extra money,

or do something else on the other walls that's less expensive.

Maybe a subway or something?

Well, I don't know what you guys think,

but I've been seeing these pictures lately,

and I don't know how this would look,

but what if we did, like, a concrete, like, a stucco?

- Okay. - Like, smooth?

Yeah, like, smooth.

When most people hear the work "stucco,"

the think about that bumpy texture on the outside of a house.

But stucco comes in different textures,

and smooth stucco is a great option for the shower.

It's totally waterproof, and it'll give the walls a natural stone look.

I think it would be similar to this color.

But I feel like I'd want it a little more white

'cause I feel like our floors in here, right, aren't they more like this color?

- Mm-hmm. - Just to, like, brighten it so it doesn't feel so--

But it won't look real polished.

- It's gonna be kind of a matte finish. - Yeah.

- I'm okay with matte. - Matte's cool. I like that matte.

I wanna revisit the floor tile that we choose for Jeff and Whitney's bathroom.

They're leaning towards a shiny finish versus a matte finish.

But since they complained about that slippery tile

The last thing this project needs is another delay,

so I'm headed over to their house to see what's up.
