Mangla Dam is the Crown of pakistan
we are right now in the power station of mangla dam
This is main spillway
and this is our mangla fort
and this is our power house where we are standing
this one is intake area
Electricity is generated from here and then goes further, which is called switch yard
Then it goes to different grid stations
This is emergency spillway
When the water level reaches 1242 feet, the water flows out of here automatically
5 tunnels are here
water comes through tunnel then turbine run
The total area of โโthis dam is 100 square miles
The dam is providing 1150 MW of very cheap electricity
According to experts, the life of this dam is 50 years more
It has so far returned a lot of investment to the dam
the purpose of this dam is water storage
The Jhelum River, which has been flowing for thousands of years, was first diverted in 1960 to build the dam
The dam cost 35 Crore 40 lac Dollar
Only four walls were built for this naturally built dam
The main wall is 454 feet high from its base and 8,400 feet in length
second wall connect with main wall called intake wall
This wall works for power generation
This wall is 262 feet high and 1900 feet long
The third wall is called the sukian wall, 144 height and 16900 long
4th wall is on jari nalla and 11 km away from main dam its height is 274 feet and 6800 feet long
this wall is also have spillway
the power station of mangla dam is in intake wall
it has 5 tunnel
each tunnel has 2 turbine
total 10 turbines generating 1150 mega watt electricity
total electricity requirement was 1700 mega watt when the dam was complete
and the interesting thing is that this dam was generating 1000 mega watt alone
At that time, Pakistan's electricity needs were more than half
this is not only a dam this is history
It is an everlasting story of sacrifice
We should be grateful to the people living in the area of โโseveral kilometers around dadial and mirpur
They made great sacrifices to build this dam
There are still old lands and villages under the lake of this dam
