Wow. Football's, football's everything.

I've played a lot of sports,

um, but this is by far the greatest sport in the world.

Um, there's nothing like being on the field

and it taking every single person

to either go six inches or 60 yards.

Get it straight, I'm not expecting anything.

Okay, every woman has a dream ring.

Okay, and mine happens to be a five-carat Tiffany's ring

in a princess setting.

Um. But I will take anything that Kenyetta gives me

even if it's a ring pop.

I dream a world.

And Lesbianism is an abomination to the Lord!

Look at what your nation is coming to!

Women together, sticking together, standing up against

the regime, against the bad guys, good guys versus bad guys.

So. Teamwork makes the dream work. This is teamwork.

In society's view, well-behaved women

don't play football.

Just think of it as the NFL but for women.

And there are just so many women out there

that want to play tackle football.

They're gonna recognize who's the number-one defense!

For those of us that were there in the beginning,

our practice field was the backyard

of an apartment building, no lights, some concrete.

Um. So just remember that.

Gunfire, we've been through gunfire.

Gun shots. I guess that means practice is over.

Two man, two man, two man, it's 35.

What are we in?

Two man, two man.

Portland, Savannah, Portland, Savannah, down. Set.

Go, go, go.

I think this year is probably the best chance we've got.

And I think it's just going to come down to us

and whether or not we put the work in.

But there's no question we can win a championship.

Women's football, as we know it,

really began back in 1967

with teams like the Cleveland Daredevils

and the Toledo Troopers,

and it really hit its height of popularity in the 1970s

with the Women's Rights movement

that took place in that decade.

You know, we have been so ingrained to saying,

"Football is men, men play football,

and women don't play football."

Like, if you bring up the subject of women's football,

people are like, "Oh, women playing against men?

That would never happen."

And it's like, no, we're talking about women playing

other women, just like they do

in literally every other sport.

More women are playing pro football than they are

basketball or anything else. By far.

But it's not just fun.

It's not playland, I mean, they're very serious

about what they're doing.

And, you gotta have a lot of commitment level,

a huge commitment level, to do it.

It takes a lot to show up.

The Bessie ratings only really come into play

when there's not a meeting between.

So there's a big advantage around playing Boston,

it's right in our hand.

A running back flares out,

the free safety has to pick 'em up.

But the D tackle, if that doesn't happen,

the D tackle gotta hustle her ass

all the way over here and contain.

that's ever been assembled with the Divas.

and we didn't have a deep threat.

We finally had D'Aja but then she dropped a couple balls,

but this way we'll have a true, true backside threat.

Yeah that's fine.

And they can't focus on Ashley and Trina together.

there's no one there, you going straight to the linebacker.

Yep, you don't even need to put a hand on her.

Whatever we do it stays with us, it's for us.

We fight, we scramble, we tackle, we kill each other,

but it's for us, we do everything as a family here,

whether you gonna be sisters or distant cousin,

When you're going through the playbook

and you're learning these plays, you know,

how can I shorten this?

You hear Tennessee, you know, whether you're in slot

or whether you're out wide.

Last year at Boston, I actually was in the hospital

with three concussions.

I was there for four people,

but three of them had major concussions.

I told you I went to the ATM, I reached back

and then it, like, moved.

It'll just come out random moments,

just like when I'm doing random stuff, like easy stuff.

Wish it was already Saturday,

I want to go out there and just get it done.

I'm ready, I want payback.

They've, ah, they've taken control too long,

it's time to, ah, turn the tables.

Nationally, there are over 50 teams in the WFA.

It's only four teams that go in the championship,

us, Boston, Chicago and San Diego.

Dunno. Boston's the first one in our way.

In the old days, it would be Ali wants Frazier. Right?

You need that. And Boston's been that for us.

And I think we've been that for them.

Down on the ground is Alison Hamlin.

Is somebody underneath Alison?

Right now, it looks like

it's an emergency situation.

It's Okiima Pickett.

It's Okiima Pickett down.

We've got a serious leg injury with her, right now.

They are with her.

They are holding her steady and stable.

Don't know how severe, but obviously, it is not good.

She fractured both bones

and it was not pretty to hear her screaming on the ground.

People were upset, that, ah,

the word was that Boston was laughing

when I was getting carted off the field.

So the next play, one of my receivers

instead of running her route,

she ran straight at the Boston defender,

and I mean, you know, it was just heated.

Flag goes down as well as

there's a fight over on the far side.

Looks like two, or one of the Divas players,

and that's the last thing we need here.

Boston's incredibly disciplined.

Ah, Boston has this three-headed running monster

in Cahill, Tianphu,

and Zelee.

And then they obviously have

Adrienne Smith wide. Cahill can throw, too.

Ah. Good blocking team. We've scored on them in the past,

but it's required a lot of planning, and a lot of effort,

and execution, and it hasn't been easy.

But they know us like the back of their hand,

just like we know them.

And so they know what we like to do.

Boston knows who our key players are.

And they're smart and they make us work for it.

Um. We need to score but we also need to control the ball

and eat the clock up,

try to keep the ball out of their hands as much as possible.

Without a doubt, Whitney Zelee is

the most dynamic football player in the women's game

that I've seen.

I mean, you can't really always stop her,

but you can kind of contain her,

and that's kind of what we're trying to do

by adding some speed on the field,

and just put her kind of in a box and don't let her escape.

We found a new player, Tia.

She used to be an offensive player, but I told her early on

that if you just trust me and believe me,

I think that by the end of this year,

you can be one of the most dynamic defensive players

to ever play the women's game.

This is going to determine a lot

in terms of the top teams in the East.

Right now through three weeks of the regular season,

it looks like Chicago, Boston, and DC

in the Eastern Conference are three of the leaders

um, to win that conference championship.

Out in the West, it's San Diego, ah, Fresno,

and Dallas.

I called her my sunshine because the smile,

it's been that way since she was born,

always with the dimples.

She was always a very happy child.

And the telephone, since she was little, also.

- Oh, yes. - Yes.

They wanted her to play football in high school.

But I'm from the old school and I said no.

Because she was the only girl they wanted to play football

and I said no.

She said, "That's okay, Mom, because one day,

I'm gonna play on my own."

I said, "Well, when that day comes, you go right ahead."

She did, so that was fine.

I think it sucks that they don't get paid,

but, you know, that's another story.

I know they'll remember her as one of the best,

and one of the hardest playin'

Um, and I know that I'm proud of her

and I know other people will look back and say

that she was the best at what she did

and that she gave it all she had.

And that's all anybody could ask.

And I think that will be a good legacy to leave.

It's going to be on our intensity.

on how we want this game to go.

Bottom line, we're knocking the bitches' heads off.

I've been in about five years playing this team, man.

we're thankful and this team is truly, truly, um,

Coop built it and, you know, my Dad kept it alive

and we just built on it.

And we're lucky, we're very lucky to have him and so,

I wish he was still here, but he'd be proud of us.

But this is kind of personal for me

'cause the last time we were here,

he was our coach and we lost, and so, you know,

part of me taking the field tonight will be for him.

When it comes right down to it,

it's another football game.

Trust yourselves, trust your teammates, do your job.

Minimize mistakes, talk to each other,

communication is going to be huge.

It comes down to us playing decent Diva football.

All right, this group of players and this group of coaches

have never played that team.

Never lost to 'em, never played 'em,

they've never played us.

I asked the Lord to work through me,

help me be aggressive, be everywhere I needed to be,

shut Zelee down, shut down the outside,

and then last thing I prayed for, safety for my teammates,

to let us all be able to walk off the field

with no major injuries tonight.

This was a defining moment for the Divas because finally,

for 60 minutes, they believed in themselves.

There was a control late in the game

that we hadn't seen before.

Right, previously when we would get down with

Boston it was the oh-no-here-we-go-again mentality.

And it was almost like there was nothing

we could do about it.

We were just behind.

And what Fish was able to do,

even after coming under Ezra Cooper

was take everything that he taught her

and kick it up a notch

and make it more of a heady game than physical.

The fact is the DC Divas, when they first started,

they played in the NWFL,

which is the National Women's Football League.

And after a couple of years under pressure from the NFL,

they had to change the league's name

because they felt it was too close

to their brand, but outside of issues like that,

where they feel it's infringing on their brand,

they'd rather ignore it.

They would rather ignore women's football.

I've had a lot of men, including my father,

come to the game with a preconceived notion

about what they're gonna be seeing out there

and that there's gonna be girls out there like,

"Oh, my God, I cracked, I chipped my nail,

oh my God, oh my God!

Please don't hit me, don't hit me."

And I think they have this preconceived notion

that we're just like

these little bitches out there with pads on,

who wanna wear pink and stuff.

They don't realize we're bad asses.

This is gonna be my 17th season,

hopefully the last season.

Um. I'm ready to pack up and hang up my cleats.

It's, it's been a long ride.

It's been fun, but I think this year

I'm finally gonna accomplish

what I need to accomplish with my team

and my personal goals.

And actually, I need to hurry up and get it done

because I keep pushing my personal life off

to play football 'cause I love it so much,

but this is what I do, you know.

I am a correction officer for DC government.

I think that's why I like to play football

because I can't dropkick these inmates

the way I wanna dropkick them, so,

and I continue to play football

and take my stress out on other people.

So my hip's are bad, right?

- Ah. See? - That's where Armani

said that-- One side's higher

than the other. Yeah.

Is it pinching?

It just throbs.

Go to the left.

Ugh, worse.

Yeah, sometimes she gets hurt.

You wanna roll down the big hill?

Only sometimes.

I tore my ligament completely off the bone.

And my tendon had wedged itself

between the ligament and the bone.

So I had to have surgery to

move the tendon out of the way

and reattach the ligament back to the bone.

My husband definitely worries about me getting injured.

He worries about how getting an injury

would affect me being a mother.

So if I, you know, I got a concussion two years ago,

and I wasn't able to drive my kids to school

or take care of my kids,

I was pretty much out of commission for at least a week.

And lucky enough I had friends and family to come help.

And so he just worries that

I'm gonna get an injury that's gonna, you know, take me away

from my primary job,

which is being a mother and being a caretaker

and taking care of my family.

They actually throw their bodies in

because they love it,

not because they're getting paid millions,

or even thousands, even hundreds of dollars.

They're doing it because they just,

for the fact of the game, love it.

And they sacrifice everything

from their heads to their knees, to their backs,

every joint, every muscle.

Sometimes they don't even care

and I have to watch out for them

and be like a mother, in a way,

and say, "No, you can't play.

You're just not capable of playing in the next game."

So I listen to a poet perform

at the Women's World Football Games.

She believes gender is on a spectrum.

So you could be, you know, all the way over here, masculine

or all the way over here, feminine,

but then everybody can be anywhere on that spectrum.

And, you know, I thought about it and I was like, huh,

I think she's totally right, because,

okay, I'm a female,

but I'm not like a girly girl all the way over here

on the feminine side of the spectrum.

I'm more, more towards the middle, I would say,

because, I don't get dressed up, I don't wear heels,

I don't like makeup, I play football. You know?

And then you've got women on my team

who are all the way over here on the masculine spectrum,

it makes total sense. And, and after hearing her,

you know, I just think of people differently,

it just gives you a totally different perspective.

We're dealing with women from all walks of life.

We're dealing with married, with children,

we're dealing with non-married,

we're dealing with older, we're dealing with younger,

we're dealing with straight women,

we're dealing with gay women,

we're dealing with everything that the world has.

We have the dynamics of the world all in one place,

playing in a team sport where you have multiple

unique individual characteristics, life experiences,

that you now melt together on the field

that spills over off the field.

And now those life, you know, relationships are built

differently because of what you have,

what you built together through this,

the team concept of being one.

They didn't play it growing up,

for the most part, none of them.

So they find the game later in life,

after other life experiences have already knocked them down,

or other life experiences

are already given them joys and successes.

And then they come to this game and they say, well,

how can I relate life to that?

The blocking, the tackling, those aspects

of getting knocked down and getting picked up,

the being able to communicate, 'cause even that rookie

whose experiences off the field

may be greater as far as a lesson

that can be taught to that pro player

who's been doing it a while,

and that relationship then grows

and the pro could teach you how you get knocked out,

you get up.

You catch the ball, you tackle the ball,

you lean on your sister to get these things done.

So now she can go back into her regular life

with those experiences that may have knocked her down,

she can understand and that concept can be there,

so she can get over those things.

It's about being aggressive

from someone who's not naturally aggressive.

That's what you're asking for,

you're asking for a woman to be aggressive and tough,

and hit someone hard and knock them down

when that's not in their nature.

So you're pulling those aspects out of their lives,

or out of them personally,

that's in there that they need to survive

because the world is cruel

and the world is unforgiving at times.

And so you have to be tough.

You have to be willing to be knocked down and get up

and continue to fight.

I play on defense, I play on what we call the dark side,

but I'm not really a dark person.

So I know a lot of my teammates get really angry

and they wanna kill everybody,

and I have to actually work on this.

Coach Fish tells, tells us to bring out our inner asshole.

Um. But, it's hard for me to find my inner asshole.

So I just, you know, analyze my technique and try and get,

and get better. In terms of, you know,

being on the dark side, I'm probably one of the, you know,

nicest people on the dark side.

Both.

Have you ever heard of a Dutch oven?

Oh my God

She tries to Dutch oven me all the time.

All the time.

She thinks it's funny. I'm proud.

I'm proud of it .

An important part of being an athlete

and being a role model,

because I get to show you and tell you

that if you wanna play football, or whatever sport,

or whatever job you want to pursue that you can do it.

There's nothing that can stand in your way.

And I think that's really important

for you guys to understand.

It's not gonna be easy.

There's gonna be challenges,

but just don't let anyone or anything get in your way.

This is the home opener of the 2015

and 15th season of DC Divas football.

And we have it for you live right here

on US Sports Radio.

And what a season it has been so far.

The Divas are five-and-oh in the WFA,

leading the division right now.

Looks like in 2015 they have a real chance

to take it all the way.

Today is gonna be tough.

The weather is gonna impact

the play calling a little bit for the DC Divas.

Having played with Allison, I know she hates a wet ball.

As soon as the Divas get a healthy lead,

that dream team is comin' off of the field.

We cannot risk injury to anyone at this point of the season.

Quick flip near side to Kelly Brosnan.

She breaks one tackle, cuts to the outside,

gets a couple of blocks.

Down to the 35.

15, 10, 5, touchdown, Divas.

Ah man, baby.

We all we got.

I lay it all out on the field

give everything I have every play.

That's how I wanna be remembered, I gave it all I have.

Tessa, she hit people

like you would expect a linebacker to hit people.

Talk about intensity,

and then she used to crumble up, a zero, right?

So you take a piece of paper

and, you know, you tear it out into a zero shape,

and then you crumple it up and you eat it, right?

And you just throw it, and you just, ahhhhh,

and you got this rage going, right.

And that was to celebrate shutouts.

Yeah, the owner of my team is my dad,

um, who's been there, you know, my whole life. You know?

I'm very fortunate because

from the time I was a little kid,

he supported me playing whatever I wanted.

Women's sports. Would take me

to all the Maryland women's games,

and in some ways rescue this team.

And he's given us this platform to play

and I'm very lucky.

My first couple of years as the coach,

I had the opportunity to meet with Coach Cooper

and ah, discuss everything from Xs and Os

to, you know, challenges as a coach and get his advice.

And he had this, this big stack of books

and, um, one of 'em was this principles of coaching.

And it's not fancy, it was probably one of the older books,

but, um, I was drawn to it because it had his notes.

Here, for instance, he was drawing up,

and he did this in the classroom all the time,

where he would draw the four-four front

to see if it worked with, against different offenses.

And um, you know, he's got things in here that are

highlighted that, that you could see was, they were

important to him and, to me, it represents the Diva roots.

It's, it's where we came from

It's um, yeah, it's like the Diva Bible.

I know. - confusing because I gotta watch for the

tight end on the other side of 64,

but then I still gotta make sure they don't have trips

on one side, so I have to call ace.

We were visiting a friend and um, Ali called

and you could hear on their other line

she was just sobbing uncontrollably

and couldn't really understand

what she was saying for a while

and ah, when she finally did get the words out, she

she told us Coop died. And

I think I just kinda went numb.

You know, and then you started thinking about Jill

and the kids and it was just, it was just heartbreaking.

Yeah, I gotta tell you, Nate, I'm a little

choked up right now watching, ah, Peyton and Molly

walk out on the field, um, doing the coin toss

for our late, great coach,

one of the greatest coaches I've ever had, Ezra Cooper.

So glad that the, uh, kids were able to be here

along with his wife, Jill.

And they will forever be part of the Diva family.

What made him so special was

he truly taught us the game of football.

He was a teacher of many things other than football,

but how you were supposed to live your life.

He loved his family.

He was just a phenomenal example of a man.

And he took a chance on us

and we were women, didn't really know much about football.

And he just spent so much time with us

and he would talk to you,

you literally thought that you were the only person

that Ezra was talking to and then you felt like so special.

And then he would hang up the phone with you

and then make another call

and spend another hour with a player.

It's almost like we're his kids.

Good work today, Ali Hamlin.

No way that that team is coming into our house,

on our field, and taking our division.

This is where you start to see the DC Diva roll,

just like rollin' through people.

This is bullshit.

They're pissed off because of the score.

I know you're defending your teammates,

It's not so much the adversity that happens to you,

it's how you handle it, all right.

And in this case,

Atlanta didn't handle that adversity very well.

You sort of felt for the players on the squad, you know.

They, ah, took their shots and you could make the argument

that they were playing dirty, but it looks to me

like they were a reflection of this coach.

The only thing I would say is

there's nothing like that DC swag, though.

Yeah.

It's a whole different swag.

Got a little go-go on it, definitely.

I think society in general still has a very hard time

seeing women as beautiful and powerful at the same time.

I think what's so great about football

is that you can unleash your aggression, and your drive,

and your pure will to win,

but still be a woman at the same time.

People like to watch women play tennis.

They love to watch us play golf.

You know, those are nice little girl sports.

In basketball for a while, it took us a minute,

but they like that because we play under the rim, right.

So you don't have to worry about a woman grabbing the rim,

shaking it, and being so aggressive,

so you allow us to do that.

But football is a whole 'nother level.

So I really think it's about gender norms

that we still place on women in our society.

We had a son grow up on the DC Divas

who's now, you know, grown into this, this young man

and it's incredible the way he talks

about, you know, other women. He says his experience,

you know, growing up with the team, changed everything.

You know, so. But it's just amazing the struggle, you know,

the day-in day-out, and the lack of sleep,

but what they will do, you know,to be a part of the team.

Being a young, um,

a teen mom as a, a black woman,

I was always afraid of that stereotype.

I didn't want to be looked at like I lived in the projects,

or I was on welfare,

and, you know, I wasn't going to do anything in life.

And I didn't want my son to see that either.

So I met this boy, summer of after eighth grade,

thought I was in love, puppy love.

We stayed together through high school.

And when it was about time for me to graduate,

he got me pregnant.

And he did that, he said he did it on purpose,

so I wouldn't leave him to go to college.

So my biggest hurdle at that point was teaching my son

to strive to be the best person that he can be in life.

So I didn't let that stop me from, um, reaching my goals.

And I graduated with my undergrad in computer science,

went on and got my master's degree, and my hopes are for him

to not repeat my same mistakes, go to college,

and be a successful black man in this world that we live in.

I feel like I was in fifth grade, so I was about 11.

Um, that's when I had my true first crush.

And I would talk to this girl on the phone all the time.

Of course, she didn't know, of course,

she just saw your homegirls, I was like, "I'm liking you."

Because I didn't know it was wrong.

I didn't know it was wrong,

I just knew that my guy friends that I hung out with

all the time, and talk to them on the phone,

they were talking about the girls they liked.

And I was like, "Yeah, I like this girl too."

I didn't see anything wrong with it.

It was society who then told me it was wrong.

And in sixth grade, I still didn't quite get it, you know,

that it was wrong, or that society thought it was wrong.

I see these two girls, you know, I gave them some trinket

or something like that, because I liked them.

And they were like, well, we're not really, you know.

They knew, we all knew what gay was,

we just didn't know that the world thought it was bad.

So in seventh grade,

went to a slumber party at someone's house,

and apparently those girls in sixth grade

told these same girls in seventh grade, but I didn't know.

And nobody told me, we just went to the slumber party,

I thought we were all getting along,

I thought we were having fun.

At that point, I was just being a girl.

I wasn't even being a girl who liked girls.

I just went upstairs, we ate, we did something else.

And then it was time for us to come downstairs

for the night and my sleeping bag was right where it was

when I put it down when I first got there

with everyone else's and all the other sleeping bags

were pulled all the way

over to the other side of the basement.

They had completely isolated me on purpose.

I had to sleep on that side of the basement

as I can see everyone over there.

with their backs turned to me, carrying on conversations

as if I never existed.

And that's when I realized

how the world would forever treat me as a homosexual woman.

And of course, we're now waiting

the Supreme Court's ruling

on whether same sex couples nationwide

have the equal right to marry.

Actually, Mr. Justice, if the court is ready.

We're ready.

This decision affirms what millions of Americans

already believe in their hearts.

When all Americans are treated as equal,

we are all more free.

I had a chance to do the Rose Garden celebration

of the court decision around same sex marriage.

I did not have a chance to comment

on how good the White House looked in rainbow colors.

Ah, that made it a really good week.

To see people gathered in an evening

outside on a beautiful summer night,

um, and to feel whole.

And to feel accepted,

ah, and to feel that they had a right to love,

ah, that was pretty cool.

Jeremy Huber, Emory hunt back with you at the half

and of course, Emory, it's been an, an exciting first half

to say the least with all the scoring we've had.

And you look at staying true to what DC does well,

running the football, I know I've talked about it,

I keep talking about it, because I'm excited

to watch the running back, Kenyetta Grigsby

do a great job. But the best formation for DC

has been their, their I spread.

A season, a regular season finale between DC and Boston.

Let's go ahead and take a look at our highlights

and we had plenty of them, folks, off tackle

goes Stacy Tianphu.

Into the end zone will go Ashley Whisenhunt

for her third touchdown catch of the day.

And that is the 200th touchdown pass for Allison Hamlin.

That's an impressive career for anybody.

They wrap up an undefeated regular

season with a dominating performance under Coach

Allison Fisher and make it 56 to 28 at the end.

Look at the numbers, you had five touchdown passes

from Alison Hamlin, you also had the three touchdown catches

for Ashley Whisenhunt, and then you also had

some running touchdowns by Kenyetta Grigsby,

really just a total team effort

when it came to the offensive end.

Boston has been a thorn in their side

and they were able to take care of that twice this year.

But I want to know more about

some of the things that you guys talked about

in regards to staying as a team, and knowing your role,

and I guess going into the playoffs,

and how you're going to communicate this back

to the other 40 people who are not here today.

If you can prove how good you were against Boston,

then they're probably not going to let you play

in the playoffs.

So if I get tired, everyone play for Emma or Maxie

to come in the games to show that they can actually do it.

I don't want to sit in the bench.

Because it shows they need that time.

Sometimes they do rely on some of us veterans too much.

Oh, they'll get it done, well, I want you to know

that they've been busting their ass and they can do it too.

So yeah, I'm gonna pull myself out of the game

- Okay - for somebody to show up.

But if you know your role, it, it works.

Okay, as a rookie, like you'd have to communicate

and understand, like okay, you're not gonna play that much.

But how do you communicate that

to somebody who's not a rookie?

Like somebody who's coming in expecting to play

because they've been on the team

for three, four, five years but they're not playing.

Like that's the difficult conversation to have.

People that aren't getting on the field,

I think the biggest thing is supportive teammates.

Because for me, that's been the hardest thing this year,

just knowing I'm in the best shape of my life and watching.

It sucks, it sucks.

But when my teammates don't feel supported,

then I have to check out.

When they say I got your back,

I know what you're doing is important,

I need you here, then I'm like, okay, I gotcha.

But for me, that's been really hard this year.

And I'm still struggling with it, I am.

I just hope that in the future,

if we do have some issues, that we can realize

that everybody is working towards this championship

and working hard, and nobody wants to make a mistake,

but we all make mistakes.

So instead of pointing out the mistake,

just lift each other up and help each other because

that's the only way we're gonna go all the way.

Absolutley.

We were here in 2010.

We were here in 2009, '4, '5 and '6.

So this will be our sixth trip, six times

we've been to the conference finals,

we've been to two Super Bowls,

we need to make it three.

And when we get there, we need to win our second one.

This is, ah, the nature of the, ah, the stress

of getting to the championship.

You gotta have it, if not,

then it don't mean anything to them.

They ain't intense and fired up and caring.

That's how they show they've really attuned to it.

So you need some of that on a Tuesday,

need even more on Thursday, where they kind of finetune it

and then we roll into Saturday, there's no issues.

The style we play is smashmouth.

We gonna line up and hit you in the mouth.

We don't care who you are,

because we are undoubtedly the best at what we do.

So yes, this is very much smashmouth.

We, it's no touchy feely, we don't play tag,

we are coming to hit you,

put you out of your misery, and send you home hurtin'.

It's just that's the way it is.

We want to make sure you understand

when you stepped on that field, we dominated you,

and you got your butt handed to you.

Basically, we whooped your ass,

it's basically we wanted to let you know that,

and that the Divas was the baddest thing out there.

An' anybody who doesn't understand that,

you line up and you'll figure it out once we hit you.

DC Divas start that playoff run to LA

now against the Miami Fury.

year. I want to have a baby next year but I want to work,

I say we'll start the process of having a baby

after the season's over.

So first we have to find a donor, so complicated.

and like, okay, then she's pregnant.

Like, it's a long process, we have to find a donor,

then like we have to get the, we have to pay money to get

the stuff, like I've never understood why you have to pay

money for something that you can just go get for free.

Then we have to decide on the donor

'cause we wanted two different types of donors.

We want someone tall and athletic.

We're talking about skin tone and stuff like that.

Oh, because, okay, so,

Kietta said that she wants a black baby, okay.

But clearly I am light skinned and mixed, so our babies,

if it's coming out of me, it might not be a black,

like black, baby, okay.

A dark skin, I want a dark skinned baby, not just black.

And I probably want like a rainbow child

that looks like nothing and everything,

so we have to figure that part out.

It sucks because been she's been my ride or die

for five years.

She actually got me playing football again because

when I broke my foot, I wasn't supposed

to play any contact sports.

And she was my physical therapist, so

not having her on my side, in my corner right now,

is kind of, kind of a low point for me, but you know,

I'm still in denial, I'm still trying to get her back,

you know.

Why would she leave me, I'm a, I'm a good catch,

I'm like a bomb ass person.

I don't understand, I'm like, damn,

who got in her ear, what did I do wrong?

Like what the hell did you do?

Did you focus so much on football and not on her,

or I don't know, I honestly don't know what it is.

But kind of sucks because I had my ups and my downs,

you know, daily, and right now I'm keeping it together

because I'm playing football.

This is an especially heartbreaking day

for all of our friends, our fellow Americans,

who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

I got a text message from my daughter

and my two nieces, please come and get us.

Please come get us out

because he's about to kill us.

He's my only child.

What brought us to Orlando, huh?

The Women's Football Alliance family

was also touched by this tragedy.

Orlando Anarchy coach Cory Connell lost his life

and Anarchy player Paula Blanco

was injured in the shootings.

At this time, the DC Divas and the Women's Football Alliance

ask for a moment of silence for those that were impacted

by the Orlando shootings.

People really hate us. Like, you know, I thought we were

over that and I thought we were beyond that,

and then it just brought it all back, like,

wow, you know what, people really do hate me for being me.

And I choose not to lie about it.

So me choosing not to lie about it

angers people to the point to where they would

rather gun me down than allow me to live

like they're living. That pisses me the fuck off.

This is a sobering reminder that attacks

on any American, regardless of race, ethnicity,

religion, or sexual orientation is an attack on all of us

and on the fundamental values of equality and dignity

that define us as a country.

it's been through a lot, I don't know whose it was.

But it's from, it's from my rookie season when

my original one got ripped off in practice,

but it signifies every year of everything

that I've been through to come out here three days a week,

from time, time away from my son. You know.

I hear so many people game after game, day after day,

tell me to quit, tell me, why do you go out there?

I mean, my dad was my biggest fan

and he died my rookie year.

So after that it was like I was pushing for myself,

but the main one that people wanted me to quit for,

he's now my number-one fan, that's my son.

So I don't know if you all know him,

but he's right there on the sidelines, you know,

telling me, Why didn't you get in the end zone?

So this, this is what I'm putting in the bag.

Broke my foot in 2010.

I got seven screws in my foot.

I gave up my livelihood,

I shouldn't be playing football right now.

But I'm here 'cause I love y'all.

So in 14 years, we've made it to the last practice

three times, three times in 14 years

and the other years that we didn't make it,

it hurt so bad in between those years.

And the first time in 2006, we went,

it was the best feeling,

but we went thinking that we started a dynasty.

We truly believe that we were going to win

multiple championships year after year.

And I remember Ezra Cooper saying to us,

"You're going to remember this for the rest of your life,

"they can never take this from you, ever take it from you."

And I think about that all the time.

It's the championship we got, only what we got.

But I'm more proud of this team

than any team I've ever been on

because we fought back year after year.

And this team came full circle for Ezra Cooper.

This team came full circle and here we are

with this opportunity of a lifetime

and this team will be bonded forever.

So do whatever you have to do, whatever you have to do,

lay it all on the line.

This is for Ezra Cooper, and coming full circle

in 14 years, worth every bit of where we're at right now.

Everybody wants one of these, I know I'd like another one.

I think everybody here has earned it.

Dallas has been a great team this year.

The thing with Dallas is they haven't played

the same caliber of opponents

that the Divas have played this year,

but Dallas has won a string of eight straight games

by 50 points or more.

In their last game, which was a conference championship game

against San Diego, they were very, very impressive.

It was a close game until the fourth quarter,

and then in the fourth quarter

they just blew San Diego off the field.

So Dallas is an extremely good team

and there could really be a dogfight,

so it should be a really exciting conclusion to the year.

I'm excited about the battle.

I mean, I hope I, I hope we smash 'em.

You know, I don't want to play nice with them,

but I respect them for what they're doing

in women's football for sure.

You got any secret weapons?

Um. Toughness.

Um, you know, I think my team personifies, um my personality

in a lot of ways. I'm from the gutter, I'm from here.

I'm from, grew up in a little town called Watts,

about 15 minutes away, and um everything I ever had to get,

I had to go get myself, nobody ever gave it to me.

And that's, ah, how I've coached my team.

And that's what they'll be coming

into the game with, on tonight.

So ladies, this is the exact same front

that Kansas City gave us, and that Houston gave us, okay.

Now here's the deal, you guys know

we've been doing this all year.

We're not going to run in there and tell them big ol' girls
