so now that we've created some places to

put all of our plugins

let's actually start loading up some

sauce so i think i want to start with

the vocal

let's actually get to the singing vocals

later let's start with the wrap vocals

first

so the first plugin that i want to pull

up is actually

a vst version of a stock pro tools

plug-in

that i really like it's called air lo-fi

and i love using it the same way you'd

use a preamp just to add a little bit of

harmonics to the signal from the

beginning

so it's just thicker and crunchier going

into the rest of your plugins

it also sounds really good as a vocal

distortion but i'm not really going for

that effect right now i'm just going for

kind of a thickening subtleness

never the next thing i'm going to load

up is some eq and compression

one of my favorite plug-ins that i have

here in the virtual mix rack

is actually the emulation of the sony

c800

and you actually can't use this plug-in

if you don't own the slate mic

honestly the price of the mic in itself

is worth it for this plug-in alone

so i'm actually going to have this as

the first plug-in after

my preamp i know this isn't how you're

supposed to use it honestly we recorded

this vocal through a real sony c800 i

just really like the way this plug-in

sounds

so let's try and turn this on and off

and see what it does with my jersey on

the next thing i want to add on here is

a little bit of compression

and i think i'm just going to do that

with this one called the monster

this high pass filter here really helps

focus the compression

towards the mids and upper part and it

doesn't let the low end bassiness of the

vocal eat it

which i really really like doing on my

the parallel compression which is what

we're doing here with the mix knot

next thing i want to load up is a little

bit of eq so

i'm just going to pull up f g

s and i'm actually going to drag this

after my compression and let's do

a little bit of a low cut filter

maybe my jersey on

the next thing i want to do is some

fabfilter pro q3

and we'll do the vst version yeah yeah

this is actually one of the presets from

the free whole loops fabfilter pro q3

presets

that you get when you join the whole

loops email list i love using this to

clean up the 2.5 k

area that's why it's 2.5 case off

that's my homie and the next thing that

i want to pull up is a little bit of

multi-band processing

mc404 i love using this it's a little

bit like having a 4-band

ott not quite as aggressive actually

like using it at a really medium amount

so i just put all these knobs

straight up so that kind of gives me a

medium compression on all four of these

bands and it kind of decides which bands

need it and which bands don't

the last thing i want to do is drop some

sooth on here i usually like to just

play and grab this red dot and move it

where i feel like it's doing the best

this adds just a really nice clarity

almost like compression

and i really love what it does so sooth

always makes its way into my vocal chain

and that's going to be perfect for our

lead vocal and i'm actually going to be

copying these plug-ins over

so to easily save this chain and open it

up on the

female vocals i'm just going to go to

file

save mixer track state as and i'm also

going to give you guys this preset in

the downloads

this is going to be called dry vocal

chain

and i'm going to open up singing and

right click

and let's do file open mixer track state

desktop drive vocal chain boom and

here's our plugins

so let's take a listen to this plug-in

chain on our female vocals

yeah we just added

a little bit less parallel compression a

little bit

more low-cut and we actually kept the

same eq curves and the same

output difference on the trimmer

awesome so now that we have our dry lead

vocal chains already set up the only

thing i want to do to make this chain

different from the other thing

is just hit scroll to move all these

down one

here and let's load up my auto tune and

i really like using

the uad auto tune but honestly you can

use whichever one you have whichever one

you like they all do

a very similar thing i believe this song

was in a minor

and i'm also going to go through all

these doubles and put the same auto-tune

plug-in on it and in addition to just

auto-tune

on these doubles i want to take the

lo-fi

and i'm just going to do save presets as

and if you just drag and drop this

we can put it on our doubles and boom we

got the same plugin right there

very handy shortcut we're just going to

take fab filter pro q3

drag and drop it and instead of that

preset i'm just

going to go for my

vocal doubles preset maybe not quite as

filtered

and let's just copy this preset save

as drag it boom and now we've got our

vocals all eq up

i might actually use one more plug-in on

the ends to do a little bit of extra

squeeze

on the wrap vocal and it's called el rey

this is a really great compressor by

acoustic audio

little bit of slow compression just to

smooth out the wrap focal a little bit

more

and help it cut through above the rest

of them and then here on the doubles we

actually don't have anything yet

i use a doubling plugin called stage one

that i really like

and this is going to help take the

doubles and double them because

easy only did them once and this is

gonna help me kind of multiply them and

make them feel like

that wasn't the case

spreading i actually i'm going to post

borrow some of the compression let's see

this one save preset as let's bring

this onto the doubles let's bring

let's bring our virtual mix rack onto

the doubles and

let's bring an eq onto the doubles as
