- NARRATOR: Every state has it's folklore, tall tales and legends.
But sometimes, there is a darker story.
A tale not so much told as whispered.
- MAN: Arthur Anna owned the country's largest lead mine.
And lived in a big house with his only child, Lucy.
She was a lonely, little girl.
Mr. Anna knew there was lead in the dirt
which made Lucy's death from lead poisoning all the more tragic.
To this day, the mansion stands as Arthur left it when he died.
Full of his things and a few of Lucy's.
Some local kids say
they've heard the voice of a young girl call out in the cemetery...
longing for a friend to play with.
- EMILY: Azalea!
You're gonna miss horseback riding. - AZALEA: I know.
- EMILY: I'll make us matching necklaces!
- But I won't be here to get it.
- SARAH: Azalea?
- I want to stay here and go to camp.
- We'll be back to visit.
Hi, Em. - Hi.
- Okay, let's go before it pours.
- Bye, Emily. - Bye.
- I'm tired of moving.
- You're gonna have lots of adventures and friends ahead.
- LUCY: Friends, friends, friends who care.
You find friends everywhere!
- FATHER: Arcadia, here we come!
- Why do we have to move all the time? - FATHER: It's our jobs.
We take care of people's homes and special things
when they wanna sell them.
- Or after they've...
- Or if they can't do it for themselves.
- We've moved nine times, and I'm seven!
- That's two more than me.
- We know it's been hard on you so this is gonna be our last appraisal.
- And then we can go back to St. Louis?
- Maybe. But wherever we go, we'll stay.
- Hey. Flowering dogwoods. Those weren't in the pictures?
- SARAH: Too bad we won't be here when they bloom.
- Where there's dogwoods...
- You'll find Azalea. - That's right.
And... there they are.
Wow! Those things need some TLC.
- SARAH: So does the house! - Aw, man.
- It's so big!
- Mr. Anna hasn't lived here in three months.
It's amazing how fast nature can take over.
- And he clearly let it go long before he moved.
- Yeah. - Is Anna a girl?
- No, he's talking about Arthur Anna, who owned the house before.
And the largest lead mine in the country.
- What's a lead mine?
- Not somewhere you wanna visit. Come on, help me with the stuff.
- What's that shadow?
- FATHER: What shadow?
- There's a cemetery next door.
- Maybe we'll explore it later.
Azalea, what is... what is this?
- She's so pretty!
- Thanks for being such a good sport, sweetheart.
- What? - Why do you infantilize her?
- FATHER: Oh, come on! It's a doll, Sarah.
- SARAH: You know it's not about the doll.
- Stop fighting!
- Okay.
Okay. Fine. All right?
Hey, don't step on any headstones. "Bad luck!"
- Friends, friends, friends who care. You'll find friends...
- LUCY: Everywhere!
- Leave it there.
It's not yours.
- What's this mean?
- You know...
You know how Scooter got old...
- Died?
- Yeah. - Did she die?
- Yeah.
- How old was she?
- Too young, sweetheart.
Come on. I don't want you sitting in the dirt.
- Was she more or less than me?
- She was also seven. But that's not gonna happen to you.
'Cause your mommy and I, we are here to protect you.
Okay? Okay? - Okay. Yep.
- Come on, come on!
Let's go, let's go!
