My dad is very academic,

My mom is,

So it is pretty stressful

I just want to make them proud,

and I don't want to go off
into the wrong road.

Progressing on "The Voice," it's
going to be very big for me.

I can make it in this industry.

bit to find my own voice,

but I resonate with the lyrics

because last year was

I had a miscarriage.

Australia, deployed at the time.

Going through that experience,
it was hard.

It was lonely.

First time I heard
"Like I Can" by Sam Smith,

I just remember that whole day,
that song was on repeat.

The lyrics were just
things I needed to hear.

It pulled me through.

What a way to complete a team.

It felt like validation
when I received that chair turn.

Right now, I'm in the Army,

but being here,
my life came back to music.

but now the main thing

for a really long time.

Growing up in a situation

where there was not
security financially,

a huge inspiration for me.

But for me, being the oldest,

get to see how hard it was
for her to balance everything.

And she always taught me
how to just

go out and get it, you know?

I really wanted
to be doing music,

but right after
I finished college,

I got a job offer in Arizona,

so I just kind of went for it.

The route wasn't exactly
how I envisioned it,

but now I'm in L.A.
on "The Voice,"

doing what I wanted
to be here doing,

so that's all that matters.

a good opportunity

to see how they
