But the catch is, this version only uses face cards and one Joker,

These are the possible winning hands, with the weakest being a Single Pair of Jacks.

It loses to a Full House, which in turn loses to Four-of-a-Kind.

To begin a hand, both players must pay an ante

of five chips, where each worth 1 million yen.

5 Chips = 5 Million yen

Once the hand is dealt, the game moves into its first betting round.

This is when each player makes their wagers.

There are three different actions a player can take:

In this scenario, the dealer keeps the antes.

and that's when it came to me.

that at the start of each hand, the cards were in some similar order.

To prove it, I tried to sneak a peak at the bottom card in the deck.

Then, I watched very carefully during the shuffle

to chase where the card had ended up.

It happened to be the Ace of Spades.

When I watched on the second hand, just to be sure...

...I was right. Ace of Spades.

That was evidence enough that the deck's order was predetermined!

So on the next turn after that, I chased the 2nd card from the bottom.

What's the 2nd card up...?

If I knew that, I could tell the order of the rest of the deck.

And the way to get that card was to exchange 4 from my hand...

Using those two cards, I estimated this sort of order...

So if I had to guess where the Joker would be, it would either be in-between different suits...

Unfortunately for me, the rehearsal ended too soon to confirm my suspicions.

I had to spend these last two real turns searching for the Joker.
