is I was trying to think, what could I bring to the table?

I didn't turn and then regret everything that I was thinking

We're actually on social media.

I was kind of hesitant about some of, like,

the dissonant harmonies that you guys were putting together,

but I started to notice over time

that it was intentional

and was really giving it this theatrical,

almost like show-tunes feel to it that I think is really dope.

In hip-hop, artists like Kendrick Lamar and Drake,

they find younger artists like you guys

that put together harmonics and sample those,

and those become the biggest records

that you hear on the radio.

And I would love to put you guys in position

to be able to create some of that stuff

from scratch like that. Wow.

I'm 22 years old and I'm from Meridian, Mississippi.

The first big stage that I ever got to sing on

was when I got to open for Blake Shelton.

I was only 10.

When "The Voice" first started, we would have that,

you know, "You got to open for him.

You didn't say anything to him,

but you were there with him," you know.

So I actually brought the photo with me.

It's kind of funny that he's so tall

that the camera couldn't get his entire body.

Blake has changed my life for the better, being there.

That was when I had that realization of,

"I'm meant to be a performer."

And then when I was 13,

I became involved with Miss America's Outstanding Teen.

It was a pageant.

It was really just another way

to... to be onstage and to pursue music.

And then I was Miss Mississippi 2021

and competed at Miss America last year.

Today I'm here to prove a lot of things.

You know, over my time in the pageant industry,

it has been a lot about, like, what's on the outside.

But today, it's not about what I'm wearing,

what my hair looks like.

It's about what I sound like.

I'm 20 years old, originally from Pakistan.

I now live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Growing up, my parents were super musical.

My whole family sings.

But life was hard in Pakistan

because Pakistan is a Islamic country.

And I was the one Christian kid in school,

and my mom was always too scared to, like,

let me go over to somebody's house.

I never went to birthday parties.

I, like, stuck out like a sore thumb.

When I was 12, we had to flee the country

because we were facing religious persecution

and moved to Thailand,

leaving everything that I had ever known behind.

We had so much chaos happening around us,

and we forgot about music.

But last year is when I finally got my U.S. visa.

So I'm currently living in Colorado

with my husband, Maverek.

He's the lead guitarist at our church,

and so we love playing music together.

From the moment that I met her,

she was the best singer I'd ever met.

And so it's just been amazing

for her to land in the United States

and then immediately just start pushing hard

towards her dreams and her goals.

I am writing music, but I've just always been so scared

to share it with the world

because I've been so scared of judgment.

My family, unfortunately, can't be here today

due to some border issues.

Soca is music

that is a little bit more fast-paced than calypso.

It is the culture, which for us means partying, carnivals,

festivals, feathers, everything.

Being born in the Caribbean is such a dream

because it's so full of love

and there's a coconut lady or a coconut man on every corner.

I wouldn't change it for the world.

When I was about 7, 8 years old,

I discovered that I can really sing.

I started to do every single pageant, talent show.

And now all throughout the Caribbean,

I have songs on the radio.

I prayed that she can go further, and here she is.

Right now, I feel like crying.

I'm crying for joy.

Joy is a good thing.

My mom and my daughter, they've been super supportive.

My daughter, she pushes me and she tells me to keep going.

worth as much as my time with my kids?

And to me it wasn't.

So I gave it up and I went home.

My wife and my kids are the most meaningful thing to me.

My name is D.Smooth.

I'm 25 years old and I'm from Birmingham, Alabama.

I'm from a small town.

It's not the richest of the rich.

I did grow up in a poverty-stricken type neighborhood.

It was a lot more opportunities for me to fail, basically.

I feel like my mom, my dad,

they really done a great job of keeping me whole.

My parents tried to do their best to kind of shelter

me and my sister from a lot of the dangers that surrounded me

and they allowed me to be able to just soar.

I've had a lot of jobs.

I am a barber, a personal trainer.

I was a delivery person,

but I felt like God was telling me,

"It's time to focus on what gifts I gave you."

I would go, like, downtown Birmingham.

I would study these people in the live music scene,

and I just wanted that for my life.

So I took it upon myself to go into open mics

and go put yourself out there.

Now that I do it full time,

I feel like I have a knack for the art, for the craft.

So to work with one of these coaches,

oh, my goodness, that'll just put fuel on the fire,

especially coming from where I come from.

We've had very humble beginnings.

You always want the best for your children.

So I'm glad that it has landed him here.
