I was scrolling through YouTube and stumbled across

this Ali Bata cover of Super Mario Bros

the theme song

so I'm excited to check this out

because obviously everyone knows this song

but I made my own cover

this back in 2016

which I'll put an annotation to

at the top of the screen

and I'll also link it at the end

I'm gonna get it there

but we're gonna do some video game stuff today

that's very nice

this is amazing

I don't know how like old you guys are

but if you guys actually got to play Mario growing up

I didn't like

I'm 28 now so like it was still there while growing up

but like I really didn't have any game stations

or video game stations like growing up

so like of course I played Mario

somehow I don't

maybe like at a cousin's house or something

I'm not sure

but I have played it

but I didn't like grow up playing it

but like obviously Mario is like

the icon for like video games

like if you think video games

like you probably think of Mario

one of the first people

interesting that he's using a pick in this arrangement

hybrid with finger picking

that's really cool

but this is such a complex arrangement

there's a lot of harmony notes going on

like the bassline is obviously very prominent

but also the other melodic notes

there's a melody and a harmony

they're both constantly going on

and so actually

it's perfectly suited for the way he plays his guitar

being able to do the bass line

and the melody and the harmony

because that's kind of how the song was written

and arranged

is to have those 3 parts harmonizing like this

if you haven't played Super Mario Brothers before

what it is is you kind of run along

and you hit these blocks with your head

and you get these coins and it makes a noise

that's the noise

is just done

I forgot about this part

oh my gosh how do you stretch your pinky like that sir

how on the that was like

I mean it kind of looks like a d chord from there

but I cannot

like that hurts

I also in high school I broke my pinky so it's like

it's kind of weird whenever I play guitar but still

so is it is a d minor

and put his pinky all the way up to

I don't know if that was the G string or the a string

nice

even got the coin sound effect in there

gotta hear that again

going underground

that part is insane

this part is beautiful

nice he got it all

he got all the important parts in there

in just 2 minutes

that was very impressive

there's a beautiful arrangement

that is that is my favorite

only because it means so much to me

I have 2 brothers and we played

we played Mario Bros

until it wouldn't work anymore

I can't remember how many hours

countless at hundreds of hours

maybe even thousands of hours of playing Mario Brothers

when we got Nintendo we had 2 games

Mario Brothers and we had Duck Hunt Dunk Hop

Duck Hunt was good

you know you get the Nintendo gun

and you shoot the ducks and whatever else

it gets pretty boring pretty quick

but Mario Brothers

was always one where you would come back to

you would play you would try to beat your score

you would try to get the highest score

you try to get the fastest run

you know it's just something that would

you know my friends played it with me

you know my brothers played it with me

it was a community event where you know

you would sit down with 2 or 3 maybe even 4 or 5

that's what you would do when you're in uh

primary school in high school having sleepovers

you know you play Mario Brothers

and then you would go on to everything else

and then obviously continue on

and it's a very expensive um

hobby at the moment so um

I still game

I as you can tell by my name

um I have another channel that I do gaming on

um but it always started with

from what I remember

you know Mario Brothers

you know it was that one constant consistent

iconic game

and it's that music

you know as soon as you start off with your little

your little gamepad

and it's that music and you're into it ah
