in the eastern city of Catania,

we're driving north to Taormina,
a stunning resort town.

From there, we'll be heading inland
to Mount Etna, Europe's highest

and most active volcano.

We're going to Taormina, which is
like a central part of Sicily.

Everybody goes there.
It's like a bougie place.

Very. It's a sea...side.

I'm loving this.

Perched upon the Ionian Sea,

the scarcity of flatland on Sicily
led to the town of Taormina

being built into the mountain
coastline.

Sitting 250 metres above the ocean,
it's popular with those seeking

a taste of La Dolce Vita.

Giovanni wants to show me
around his home country.

about this.

And I'll let him take me
along and lead the way.

Taormina's cable car is the quickest
