ending in Palermo, the capital
city where I grew up.

But for this, the first stage
of the journey we'll begin

in the coastal town of Sciacca
and finish in the island's

second city, Cat an ia.

So warm, it's marvellous.

As a young boy, Sciacca is a place
I used to visit with my family.

It's medieval architecture means
there are only a handful of streets

wide enough for cars.

our journey around my Sicily
can finally start.

The first leg of our adventure,
position number one

is the port city of Sciacca, which
pivots on the island's south side.

From here, we will sashay our way
down the coast until we glide

into our next stop, Agrigento.

From there, we'll leap
across to the East Coast,

then it's just a quick two-step
before ending the first part

of our Italian odyssey in Catania.

When was the last time you actually
drove on the wrong side of the road?

On the right side of the road.

So the thing is, I've been driving
since I was 18.

Then I stopped because I moved to
England and this is the wrong side

of the road when people drive.

So I decide not to drive.

You haven't driven for ten years?

and peaceful journey.

We're on our way to one
of Sicily's greatest treasures.

Just outside the city of Agrigento
stands one of the most visited

tourist attractions on the island.

So we're going to the Valle
dei Templi.

The Valle dei Templi? Yeah.

There's a lot of Greek temples
and it's lovely, it's beautiful.

I went there with a school trip.

anywhere in the world.

Now, from that cultural high note,

we're on our way to the next -
Siracusa.

Today, it's a small provincial city,

but spin back 2,700 years

and it was a buzzing metropolis
of the ancient Greek world.

And with credentials like that,

this place sounds right up my
strada.

I would like to see the historical
part of the island.

A bit of history, culture. You can
find history everywhere you go.

Like, basically every single part
of this island

is just history.

It's Romans, it's Greek,

everybody's been here.

The beauty of this place is that
there's so much archaeology.

And today I've got my very own
personal guide.

I think in 1922, the king
of the Egyptian come here

and did, like, a massive party.

I did study a lot of history at
school

but not particular about this place.

Actually, I don't know anything
about this place,

but Anton was asking questions,

and I didn't want to look
like I didn't know anything.

What's with the bamboo?

This is a symbol of the connection

between pandas and dinosaurs.

when the panda met
for the first time.

octopus.

He uses traditional techniques
that have been passed on

through generations of his family.

So the only kit we'll be needing
today is snorkelling gear.

Octopus are deceptively clever

and catching them can be tricky.

So our plan is to have a look here

every five minutes.

We've been told we must keep
the Madonna as level as possible.

And luckily for us,
we have Sebastian leading the way.

As an expression of their devotion,

the bearers call out to the crowds,

that's very close to my heart

and a place I called home
as a teenager.

So, now we're going to Catania,

which was my first-ever stop
since I left home.

So how old were you
when you moved to Catania?

So, I came to Catania when I was 14.

Wow. And the reason why I moved

is because my dance partner

was from here and she was a great,
great dance partner,

so I couldn't miss the opportunity
to dance with somebody good.

So you moved without your parents?
You moved alone?

Yeah, I moved without my parents.

The thought of moving away from
home at that age,

I mean, that is really, you know,
very brave of your parents,

but very brave of you
and really impressive.

When you have something, a goal,
and something that I loved,

which was dancing,

I didn't really care

leaving anything behind me
because I knew what I wanted.

When I was 14,
I would have been hopeless.

I was such a mummy's boy.

The thought of moving away
from home at that age?

Not in a million years.

So I'm so impressed.

It's so great to be back in Catania

and show Anton where I spent
some of my teenage years.
