[crowd cheering]
[grunts]
[announcer] And with seven seconds to go,
the ball's passed to Bayville High star striker Jean Grey.
All right, Jean! Go for the goal!
All the way, team player, Jean!
[crowd cheering]
[girls grunting]
[announcer] She shoots, and it's good!
And that's the game as Bayville aces the semi-finals.
Yeah!
All right, Jean, way to go!
-Whoo! -All right!
Whoo-hoo!
Nice look there, superstar!
-That's what I'm talkin' about! -Yeah, Jean!
[all cheering]
Whoo-hoo!
[cheering continues]
Jean, you were fantastic--
Hey, Jean, way to go.
You stomped 'em like bugs on a sidewalk.
[chuckles] That Duncan,
he knows just what a girl wants to hear.
Heh, thanks, Duncan.
Yeah, everyone played really well today.
Jean, we're taking off.
You riding or walking?
Oh, Scott, uh, that's OK.
Uh, Duncan is driving me home.
Yeah. Hey, Summers.
Maybe we'll even get lost along the way.
[chuckles]
With you driving, that's pretty much expected.
โช Why did you leave me? โช
โช Why didn't you write? โช
[Kitty] Get real, the Stone Ciphers?
Their music is so... last millennium.
Oh, not true!
They rock, big time!
Tell her, Scott.
Scott?
-Hello? -[honking]
Huh?
Whoa!
-[sirens] -[Kurt] Hey!
What's his hurry?
I don't know.
Maybe it's the 12 police cars on his tail.
Just a hunch.
[sirens continue]
[tires squealing]
Ah!
[tires squealing]
[kids screaming]
Oh, no!
[theme music playing]
Ah! We've got to do something!
No! There's too many news cameras.
-[kids screaming] -[Kitty] But what about those kids?
Oh!
-Kurt! -I'm on it.
[kids screaming]
Whoa!
[breathing heavily]
All right, hold it right there.
[handcuffs clicking]
[sirens in distance]
[breathing heavily]
[giggling]
[grunting]
Ah!
[groaning]
[grunts]
[blowing]
[all gasp]
[Logan] So those are the new recruits.
Hmm. Looks like we got our hands full.
[Professor X] Yes, a spirited bunch, but good kids.
Though I'm afraid it's going to be even more difficult,
this term to keep a lid on things,
and to maintain our anonymity.
Whoa.
Not to mention, our buildings.
We're definitely going to need more instructors,
and maybe a couple of tanks.
[Ororo] Charles? Excuse me.
But I think you may find this interesting.
Eyewitness accounts are conflicting,
but all agree that the falling car was somehow deflected,
by this strange red flash.
Its source is still a mystery.
Scott.
Uh, maybe we better not mention what happened to anyone.
You think?
Well, we could just keep quiet about it for a while,
like, say forever.
Or we could blame it all on Kurt.
Hey!
[Scott] The thing that really gets me is that I hesitated.
I was so worried about anyone seeing me,
that I almost acted too late. And why?
I mean, helping others and saving lives,
should be the most important thing we do with our powers.
Scott, I know this is a confusing issue.
Yes, helping others is the right thing to do,
but we must also try to remain anonymous,
at least for the present.
It's like we're hiding in shame.
What's the harm in letting people know?
Because many of these same people are simply not ready,
to embrace the fact, that mutants walk the earth.
Look, Scott, I'm not blaming you for what you did.
In fact, I'd have done the same thing in your place.
I'm just saying, you need to do what you can,
without revealing what you are.
[sighs] I don't know, professor.
I'm having a hard time with this one.
[Alex] OK, right here.
OK, look.
Trophied it!
Your little bro can't be beat in the pipeline, man!
Yeah, right. Who you surfing against, little girls?
Yeah, no little girls in the semi-pros, dude.
And next year, I might even go pro.
Really?
Well, I guess that means you won't be joining us,
here at the institute for a while.
Well, that's gonna have to wait.
I don't know, Scott.
This whole thing about being a mutant, it's... you know?
Yeah, it takes a little getting used to.
But having all these powers, is kind of cool.
I'm starting to get the hang of it, you know?
Although yesterday in the cafeteria,
I pointed to an enchilada and it, heh, it blew up.
I hate when that happens!
Yeah. It's real tough trying to keep the old blasters a secret.
Yeah. Tell me about it.
[indistinct chatter]
[whistles]
[buzzing]
[grunting]
Man, this bombs, yo.
Even the flies here think they're better than us.
Ha ha, yeah. I don't even know what we're doing at school, anyway.
But we do know what Lance is doing here.
He'd like to get a certain Kitty stuck in a tree.
K-i-s-s-i--oww!
[groans]
[indistinct chatter]
[British accent] Excuse me. How long do these assemblies
usually last, huh?
Oh, too long.
But at least it gets us out of class.
Right, class. [chuckles]
My next one should be...
uh, geometry with Mr. Barton.
You're new.
Yeah. I'm Misty Wilde, from Manchester, England.
I'm Rogue. Hang out afterwards.
I'll show you where Barton's class is.
[grunting]
Ugh.
Oh!
Oh, hey, Kitty. Didn't see you there.
Oh, look, it's the walking Richter scale.
Shouldn't you be erupting somewhere?
[laughter]
[announcer] And now, everyone.
Let's give a warm Bayville High welcome,
to our new principal, Mr. Edward Kelly.
[cheers and applause]
[gasping]
[crowd murmuring]
[giggles]
Hey, Kitty.
Want to see some real shaking?
[all yelling]
Ah!
-[all screaming] -[gasps]
Ah!
[all murmuring]
Lance, get a clue, OK?
[grunts] Whoo.
Since when is Bayville on a fault line?
[laughter]
Anyway, I want to welcome you all to a new semester.
I know that filling the vacuum left,
by your previous principal, Miss Darkholme,
will not be an easy job,
but it's a challenge to which I am looking forward.
And that brings me to what I hope
will become the theme of the coming semester.
Meeting new challenges.
You know, most of us go through life,
thinking we're not so different from the people around us.
And that's a mistake. Because I'll wager
that everyone of us here, has some unique talents.
Some special gifts, some ability that makes us stand out from the crowd.
However, that said,
I want your second priority to be...
supporting the girls' soccer team for the championship!
[cheers and applause]
And that means I want every one of you,
to turn out tonight for the big pre-game rally!
Can we count on you?
[cheers and applause]
Hey, Sandy. Have you seen Jean?
Uh-uh.
-[girls giggle] -[sighs]
[Kitty] Ugh! Lance, just forget it!
Hey, I said I was sorry for the scoreboard thing.
Come on, don't be mad.
Lance, you can be such a jerk sometimes!
[Scott] Alvers, leave her alone.
[Lance] Hey, go recharge your batteries, goggle boy.
This is between me and her.
Yeah? Well, now it's between you and me.
Go ahead, Summers. Take your best shot.
Let's see those eyes blast me through the fence--
Right here, right now.
Scott, don't let him bait you.
He knows we can't do that stuff out in the open.
Come on, Kitty.
[laughter]
Hmm!
You know what, guys?
Summers may like keeping things under wraps,
but I've had it with hiding our powers.
But Mystique said...
Forget Mystique! She ain't around no more!
So I say...
let's take Principal Kelly's advice,
and go public with our unique talents.
[crowd cheering]
[band playing]
Playing mid-field for the Bayville Hawks,
Taryn Fujioka.
[cheers and applause]
Rounding out the team, Bayville's star forward,
Jean Grey.
[cheers and applause]
Yeah, Jean!
[crowd] Bayville, Bayville, Bayville!
Bayville, Bayville, Bayville, Bayville!
In appreciation of the team spirit,
that has brought us all the way,
to tonight's championship game,
we'd like to present our school mascot,
the Bayville Hawk!
[crowd cheering, band playing]
Now, let the game begin!
[whistle]
[crowd cheering]
The game is underway, and if Bayville--
Hey, give that back!
[Lance] Excuse me, folks.
Hey. Can I have your attention up here?
-Lance? -What's he up to?
[crowd murmuring]
That's better.
My name's Lance.
I also call myself Avalanche,
because I'm a mutant.
That's right. Me and Toad and Quab and Quicksilver here,
we're all mutants. Born different.
What you might call "freaks".
I can't believe he's doing this!
Hey, you, get down from there!
Sorry, yo. Mutants only. [spits]
You see, there's lots of mutants at Bayville High.
Scott Summers over there, he's one.
And so is Jean Grey, your big soccer star.
And most of their pals over at the Xavier Institute,
which is kind of a school for weirdo, mutant nerds.
Man, we're busted big time.
[Lance] Now, being mutants means, we've got these special powers,
we can use to make little improvements.
For instance,
we thought this game would be more fun,
if the goals were further apart.
[all screaming]
Ah!
[groaning]
[Lance] And we figure, the principal ought to have,
a little better perspective on his student body.
[yelling]
Ah!
Sorry, Professor X, cat's out of the bag.
[Professor X] Storm, we need you.
[Lance] Another thing, we think that mascot totally reeks!
[all yelling]
[grunting]
[all yelling]
Oh!
All right, Lance, you want it all out in the open?
Let's put it out there.
I've been waitin' for this.
[both yelling]
Huh? What?
Ah!
[grunts]
[yelling]
[groaning]
Oh!
[grunting]
[grunting]
[yelling]
I'm about to feel really big and stupid,
if you know what I mean.
[both groaning]
[grunts]
Stick to catching frogs, Toad!
[grunting]
[chuckles]
Whoa!
[thunder]
[groaning]
Good work, Storm.
Yes, but no downpour can make people forget what they've seen here.
The secret is out.
Perhaps not.
If I can alter their memory, of what's happened--
No! There are too many.
Even your mind could never withstand, such a strain.
I really have no choice.
-Oh-ho! -[groaning]
[straining]
Ah.
Charles!
[Charles groaning]
[Logan] Easy, Charles.
Take it slow.
You threw your brain into overload.
[Ororo] But it worked!
Eyewitnesses believe the hawk's exploding fireworks,
caused all the damage.
What about the broadcast?
-How much got out? -[Logan] None.
Seems there was some kind of,
weird, magnetic interference,
that knocked the station off the air, seconds before.
Magnetic? Hmm.
Could it be that he's still alive?
Magneto?
I wouldn't doubt it.
Anyway, I guess we're back under wraps where we should be.
I'm real sorry, professor.
It's like you said, the world really isn't ready to learn about us.
I'm afraid not, Scott.
Hopefully, Lance and the others will come to realize that, as well.
My only concern is Principal Kelly.
I was inside his mind when I blacked out,
and I'm not sure I finished the job.
[theme music playing]
