Episode 16

I worked hard to be

debtless to Heaven,

debtless to Jianghu Brotherhood!

Yet today,

I fell into a conspiracy and can't defend myself.

My conscience is clear!

Believe me or don't. Useless to say more.

Right! Big Bro is guiltless.

If you disbelieve him,

fight us!

Come on!

My head is here.

Come and get it!

Today, I'll die with Big Bro.

I disbelieve you mob

can beat 5-Lakes!

Live and die with Chief!

Great!

Fight to see who wins!

You'd win with force?

never heard evil can't beat good?

We have hordes of heroes.

Do we fear 5-Lakes?

Ghosts killed my son. What use is my life?

Gao Chong, you vicious beast!

I'll fight you! (Mu Siyuan)

(Broken Sword Villa disciples)

Senior.

Master, you really won't care?

It's suspicious.

I think Chief Gao was framed.

Dad isn't here.

Shouldn't we...

Let's go.

Master!

Aren't Cool Breeze Sword Sect and Gao Chong close pals?

Who knew they'd be first to run away?

Why's Gao Chong holding back?

Why are you still pretending?

No! I can't be wrong. Gao Chong has tricks.

Everyone, attack!

Attack!

Avenge Master! Kill!

Kill!

Master.

Come with me.

Let him go!

Who are you?

If you oppose Gao Chong, I'll help you save Zhang.

I'm your dad!

You!

Attack!

Chengling, beware!

You're okay?

Big Bro!

Uncle Gao!

Uncle Gao!

Chengling.

Take Chengling away!

Let's take Chengling.

( Five Lakes World League )

No!

Shan!

Everyone, stop!

Stop, everyone!

Stop!

Big Bro, stop. We lost.

I beg you.

Give them Glazed Armour.

2nd Bro! What are you saying?

Fifth Bro! Don't you get it?

You aid him?

You'll get him killed!

Gao Chong!

You did too much evil.

Due to you, Five Lakes's reputation is ruined.

Now you want this many people

to die for your crimes?

Give us Glazed Armour!

Give us Glazed Armour!

Shut up!

How can a dog like you judge Big Brother?

It's proven.

Who here hasn't a right to judge his sins?

Elder Huang.

Beggar Gang keeps promises.

I hope you bear witness.

If Big Bro hands over Glazed Armour,

you'll let him live.

I'll give up wealth, be a monk with him,

and avoid Jianghu matters.

Elder Huang. I beg you.

Second Bro!

Don't kneel to a villain.

Get up!

Big Bro.

Five Lakes Stele fell.

Five Lakes will end.

Please wake up!

Think of Xiaolian.

Do you want her to live bearing our sins?

Second Bro.

Get up.

I will heed you.

Glazed Armour...

I'll give it to them!

You can't!

Fifth Bro. Take care of my daughter.

Let her have a normal life.

Big Bro.

You must not!

Fifth Bro!

You scumbags

used despicable means

to force me to hand over Glazed Armour.

Right?

I was framed by a scoundrel with no way of defence.

Today I sever my Five Lakes League ties.

'Dying proves one's sincerity'.

Glazed Armour harmed Jianghu.

For the sake of the future, today I...

destroy this!

Don't!

No!

( Gao Chong )

Master!

Master!

( Yueyang Sect )

Master!

Uncle Gao!

Uncle Gao!

Master!

- Chengling. - Uncle Gao!

Master!

Master!

Master!

Master!

Uncle Gao!

Uncle Gao!

Master, won't we go to Heroes Assembly

instead of home?

Heroes gather there today.

It's a chance to make our name.

We'll miss the excitement.

And you and Chief Gao are close.

Shouldn't we...

Shut up.

I said we're going home.

[ Mo Huaiyang - leader of Cool Breeze Sword Sect]

Chengling, eat something.

Thanks, Master.

Oh right, Master. Where's Uncle Wen?

Eat now.

He's outside.

I'll find him.

A'Xu.

I'm an evil guy, right?

If the heart is good,

the person isn't evil.

You tricked others.

Because others tricked you,

you're like the living dead.

Thoughtless.

Even worse than my disciple.

I made a big mistake.

I went to gloat at another's act.

I didn't expect to be one of the actors.

Do you think

I was too smart for my own good?

You sure can self-praise.

You were too dumb for your own good.

Official Zhou, you're smart.

You comprehended it?

This complex plot has someone behind the scenes.

Or some persons.

I can't tell

what their goal is.

Isn't it Glazed Armour?

Not just it.

Anyhow, Gao Chong's repute is ruined.

Five Lakes ended.

Maybe not.

Compared to Gao Chong,

Zhao Jing backed off at a crucial moment.

He pretended to be weak

and moved blame off himself.

I recall in Sky Window records,

he was nicknamed Sai Meng Chang (bounteous Qi lord)

and also Zhao Xuan De. (virtuous Ming ruler)

I paid no heed, yet now I think of it,

his crying and using morals to convince everyone

were spectacular.

Zhao Xuan De?

Who named him so?

What a bad guy,

almost your level.

I'm bad?

Well-doer Wen.

I'm nice to you.

Is that so?

How'd I not know?

Truth is hard to find; a plot is hard to plan.

However hard one tries

to balance each step,

one can't outsmart heaven.

Breaking a plot is very easy.

It may be due to a betrayal

or unexpected rain.

However deep a scheme, truth will out.

If you patiently peel its layers,

you'll surely find the missing key.

So a perfect scheme

adapts to the situation.

The mastermind needs

to assess the situation,

and push at the right moment.

Unpredictable heart;

predictable human nature.

Endless greed

is human nature.

This is an unarguable truth.

Old Wen.

Stop thinking you know human nature.

First, Anji Four Sages; now Gao Chong.

Haven't you erred enough?

Blind misjudgement harms you.

Humans are naturally greedy

but can be righteous and loyal.

What do you want?

If I tell you, will you help me?

Tell me. Only then can I help.

I want...

I want all demons and monsters

to scram back to Hell!

With Gao Chong's wugong,

he could have fled.

But dying exonerated him

after Five Lakes Stele fell.

If a person dies,

hasn't he lost everything?

Foster Dad, you truly had insight into his heart.

It's easy to break a strong person.

Gao Chong's qualms

burdened him too long.

And I played this game with him for 20 years.

The final step crushed him.

And now,

I accomplished my goals.

It's just a pity—

One thing went wrong.

What went wrong?

I factored in everything except Elder Huang fooled me.

He got Peach and Willow to abduct Xiaolian.

I've sent men after them.

Foster Dad, should I shut Xiaolian's mouth?

Never.

I want her to live, and live well.

She is my living mascot.

The better she lives,

the more righteous and loyal I seem.

Okay, I'll heed you.

You did very well.

Without your Magic Tune to muddle Deng Kuan,

defeating Gao Chong wouldn't be easy.

But his disciples are truly loyal.

Especially Song Huairen.

I treated him so well

but didn't expect he was a spy.

I'd said he was no good.

Yet you made him a foster son.

You got mad at me for that.

Well, you see now? Wasn't I right?

(Song Huairen; Yu Tianjie)

Scorpion King, it's you? Scared me.

- Foster Dad sent you? - Yes.

Give me Glazed Armour.

Wait a minute.

Do you have his Command Token?

I'm here.

What Token is needed?

It's vital to make no errors.

Foster Dad said to steal it

but didn't say to give it to you.

What did you say?

Without the Token,

I won't give this to you.

We're both trusted aides.

Must be...

Never mind. You can go.

Must be you die...

I live.

How would I let anyone

meddle in my plot?

*In Foster Dad's bed, only I am needed.

Wasn't I right?

It's good I killed Huairen.

Or your Glazed Armour and plans would've been lost.

Fine, I was wrong.

Scorpion, sorry.

From now,

you're my only son.

Where's the shard?

This is your trust, always kept on me.

Scorpion.

My life and all I have are in your hands.

I only trust you in this world.

I need another task.

Command me.

That idiot, Mu Siyuan, must be appeased.

We may need him.

Mu Siyuan is bad at wugong, ox dumb, and ugly.

Why keep him around?

Scorpion.

Think about a flock.

A sheep flock huddles together.

If one sheep leads the way,

the rest of the flock follows,

even into a wolves' den.

Five Lakes is the flock

and Mu Siyuan is my lead sheep.

I never think ahead like you.

Anyway,

I'll always heed you.

As long as we work together,

Jianghu, the world, and Wulin

will be ours sooner or later.

Qin Huaizhang's disciple.

With less wugong, you ran too fast for me.

Senior, we meet again.

What 'again'?

I followed you.

But this nuisance

held me up, so I lost you.

Master.

Chengling, he's Senior Ye Baiyi.

Senior. My disciple, Chengling.

Seems dopey.

Each generation is worse.

However dopey, our kid is better than a badmouth Old Freak.

Your kid? You're from Four Seasons?

Let me go!

- Who's in it? - Who do you want in it?

You.

Not whom you hoped.

Alright.

You Toy Boy-Old Toad-Freak.

You'd fight me? Come outside.

- A'Xu, don't. - Hold it.

- Go! - Skip it.

Senior. Look, it's raining.

Can you two pick a fine day?

Old Wen.

Let me go.

Let me go.

Little Idiot. Who'd you think it was?

I thought it was Xiaolian.

Chengling.

They want to use her to find Glazed Armour.

While that holds true, they won't harm her.

We have time to rescue her.

I almost forgot.

A'Xu's disciple lost his wife.

We must rescue her.

Leader Long Xiao.

Bro Huang, how'd it go?

Nothing came of our efforts.

Nothing?

At least we have the girl.

We can use her to negotiate with Zhao Jing

or trick that idiot, Shen Shen.

Who has Glazed Armour?

- No-one. - No-one?

Before that dog died, he ruined Glazed Armour.

I doubted it

but it wasn't on him.

How can it be gone?

Why'd we do all this?

Where's Gao Chong's corpse?

Did Five Lakes retrieve it?

Corpse?

What corpse?

Those mad dogs tore it apart.

There was no Glazed Armour.

[ Chong Military Hall ]

Fifth Bro!

Fifth Bro!

Fifth Bro!

Fifth Bro, where are you going?

Big Bro's bones aren't cold.

You'll leave me this mess?

Why would I stay?

I have no dignity left.

If I hadn't made trouble, Big Bro won't be...

Fifth Bro, of five Brothers,

only we're left.

If you leave,

Five Lakes is really over.

Xiaolian is lost.

Before dying, Big Bro gave me care of Xiaolian.

Five Lakes will seek her.

Yao Zhi went to search as well.

Heed me. Don't go.

5-Lakes can't be leaderless.

Stay!

I'm going! Better than staying.

If I can find Xiaolian,

I'll take her to Mt. Dagu bamboo forest

and never return to this place of sorrow.

Second Bro.

Our Five Lakes...

is entrusted to you.

I'm useless.

I'm sorry.

Foster Dad.

You'll let him go?

Then, Glazed Armour...

Gao Chong was shrewd.

He anticipated a rebellion at Heroes Assembly.

Fearing Shen would die, Gao kept his shard.

Who cares if it's true?

Let me chase and kill him.

Certainly not.

I need Shen alive.

If you act on your own, don't blame my being cruel.

Aye.

Understand my intentions.

I waited all my life to finally succeed.

Without an old friend is witness,

it would be like walking in the dark.

I can bear witness.

How do you count?

You and I are one family, one heart,

not outsiders.

Here.

Kill all persons on this list.

Use cruel methods.

Leave none alive.

Scorpion, I want you to understand—

Not only greed controls the human heart.

Then what else?

Please advise me.

It's fear.

Huaizhang's disciple, any food?

I've a name.

I'll call you what I want. Don't talk rot.

You're right.

I'm right. Where's the food?

What's this? Is it for humans?

Chengling.

Did your home have 'Shuowen Jiezi'? (Han dynasty dictionary)

It...it did.

Pictured besides "hated by demons and gods",

is there his noble face?

I heard someone sought the truth

and got tricked into aiding others' scheme.

How do you have face to jeer?

Hey, kid.

In that dictionary,

his face is next to "laughing stock", right?

You seek the truth?

Is truth a rabbit crashing into your stump? (story idiom)

Did you look? Know where or how?

You!

Senior, please advise us.

You think Gao Chong invited that boy

just to say a few words at Heroes Assembly?

His dad leads Deep Pavilion, originally a theatre troupe.

But his "Leader" title is valueless now.

What use is this boy?

Old Freak, enough suspense.

Why capture him?

Shut up, young fool.

He's the key.

Key?

You want to know about Rong Xuan and Glazed Armour.

Deep Pavilion is key to the past.

Why will I want

to know about Rong Xuan and Glazed Armour?

If you're my age, you'll know—

It's not hard to find out

what someone wants.
