- You're one hell of a driver, Mr. Buckman,
just the man we need on our team.
You'd like to drive for Modern Motors, wouldn't you?
- Yes, sir.
- There's stiff competition against you.
This race is very important to you, Coy.
Do you understand what I mean?

I see you've brought a companion with you.

- [Zippo] Have I adjusted everything perfect?
You ask me if I've adjusted everything perfect.
How long have I been your mechanic, five years, six years?
Forever.
And you ask me if everything's perfect.
This car is so fine tuned,
you could play it like a piano.
Maybe open it up,
there's gonna be some new speed records to beat.
Been a lot of speed laws broken.
Go on and ask me.
The suspension is so tight, man,

Now ask me about the tires.

You're gonna wake Linda.

I wouldn't let Cannonball Buckman race

of the Trans America Grand Prix Auto Race.
This underground sporting event is open to anyone
holding a valid license
driving any kind of four wheeled land-based vehicles.
Contestants choose any cross-country route they wish

for the sweat-drenched, high test hot rodder

tend to exceed the speed limits.
