♪ Darling don't do that

♪ Don't do that to me... ♪

You've got this, Cheryl.

♪ Baby, can't you see... ♪

It's Hannah, right?

Cheryl Horner. So good to meet you in person.

Good to meet you, too. I'm so sorry Mr Adams couldn't be here himself.

Of course, he's a busy man.

Peter, how are you this morning?

Morning, Cheryl.

Excited about our little trip out?

It's us, is it? l think so.

Why don't we...?

I'm from the real estate company. Cheryl, right? I'm Ryan.

I'll be your designated driver for today.

So, anything you need, I'll be your man.

Perhaps you could show Miss Roberts and Mr Galbraith on board,

and we can get this show on the road.

St. Agatha's Cove is just around the headland.

You'll see where we're going by boat.

It looks beautiful.

It's a sealed bid auction.

The winning bidder will need to transfer a 20% deposit

into Carib Real Estate's account by the end of the day.

You're not coming? l 'm going to give you both some space.

I don't want to waste your time with some tired old sales pitch.

You don't need me telling you what you can already see for yourselves.

Right. Here we go.

Right. We've got water, soft drinks.

Actually, I've just got to make a call.

Excuse me.

Hi, Blake.

Hi. How are you? Yeah, so this is the beach.

We've got cold beer if you fancy it.

Uh, no, I prefer to keep a clear head

Situations like this?

What, it's not your first time buying a beach, then?

Well, you know, I've done a fair few deals in my time, but, uh,

All right, well, I'll leave you to it, boss.

I'm just off to get some ciggies.

Oh, morning, Naomi. Morning, sir.

Sorry to bother you at home, but we just received a visit

from the Local Traders Association, and they were pretty worked up.

Oh, no.

Sorry about the mess, by the way.

I'm just in the middle of a bit of a spring clean. Oh.

Oh, hey, since you're here,

you wouldn't mind helping me for my sheets, would you?

Sorry, uh, fold your sheets?

Well, they'll get all crumpled if I don't do it now.

OK. Yeah.

You were saying?

Oh, yes. So it seems there's been a recent upsurge

of counterfeit goods being smuggled onto the island.

What sort of thing are we talking about?

Clothing, consumables, cosmetics?

All sorts, I've been told.

And l assume the local traders want us to get a handle on it.

Well, I was thinking we could reach out to some of our informants.

Sir. Sarge...

We've got a dead body reported out at St. Agatha's Cove.

Is this a regular occurrence for you two?

Uh, no.

What do we know about this body?

Woman's name is Cheryl Horner, works in real estate.

She was taking a few clients out for a beach viewing.

The thing is, St. Agatha's Cove is a local beauty spot.

It can't be for sale, I'm sure of it.

Maybe, sir, you should have a word with the Commissioner.

According to our witnesses,

it was going to be a sealed bid auction

organised by a company called Carib International Real Estate.

This just can't be right.

St. Agatha's Cove is not only a public beach,

it's an area of conservation.

I need to make some calls.

It looks like there are two blows to the front of the victim's head.

some bruising on the forearm suggest she was trying to defend herseff.

And we think this is the murder weapon.

It's a winch handle.

There's significant traces of blood on it.

We'll dust it for prints back at the station.

Inspector, I found the victim's bag,

but there's a key to a rental apartment.

It's got the address on it.

But you should take a look inside here.

It is messed up good and proper.

Signs of a disturbance inside the cabin

suggest there was a struggle in here before the final blows

were landed on the deck.

And all the witnesses were on the shore when the attack took place?

That's what they're saying.

Oh, it's the Commissioner.

And there he is, look!

Hey, Commissioner.

Hey, Commissioner!

Hey. Over here! Hello!

Just answer your phone, Officer Pryce.

I've spoken to the Land Registry,

the Environmental Department and the Heritage and Tourism Minister.

And not one of them has sanctioned the sale of this beach at any point.

The sale was illegal?

On top of which, Carib International Real Estate is supposedly

a local company.

But not one single person I spoke to has ever heard of them.

They were being conned.

How were we being conned?

Well, you told us that whoever won the sealed bid

would have to pay a 20% deposit by the end of today.

A 20% deposit needs to be transferred into Carib Real Estate's

account by the end of the day.

And if we'd both been told separately that we'd won...

Well, what, then? You'd each pay 20% and just...

Well, l imagine, once you'd paid the money,

you'd never see or hear from Cheryl Horner again.

But then who was it that killed her?

That we don't know yet, Mr Cook.

Perhaps you could talk us through what happened.

Uh, yeah. All right. Well, I dropped anchor.

It must have been about half ten.

And Cheryl said she'd stay on the boat,

so I brought everyone ashore in the dinghy.

You're not coming? l'm going to give you both some space.

And once you all got to the beach, none of you went back to the boat?

Did any of you see anything which you might consider suspicious?

Another boat nearby, perhaps?

Anyone in the water - swimming, kayaking, anything?

Uh, no. No, I do not think so,

but then wasn't looking at the boat the whole time I was there.

I don't think either of us were. No.

So how long were you here before you went back to the boat?

About 40 minutes, I guess.

And you were on this beach the entire time?

Yeah. Uh- huh.

Well, except for... Brian.

You nipped off.

Yeah, but, mate, I just popped up the shop to get ciggies. Look.

And when you returned to the boat, it was empty?

Apart from Miss Horner's body.

Cheryl, are you there?

Yeah.

OK. Well, if you gather your things,

we can give you a lift back to the town.

Everything all right, sir?

Commissioner, when Marlon was waving at you from the boat earlier,

could you hear him calling out to you?

Yes, of course. Why?

It's just we know that the victim was trying

to fight off an assailant,

so it's likely she would have cried out for help.

And yet no-one on the beach heard it.

The sea was calm this morning.

The breeze has been blowing inland since we got here.

It's as remote and peaceful a place as it could be.

so either she didn't call for help,

which seems unlikely since she was trying to fight for her life,

or she did...

...and no-one heard it.

Why not?

Sir, uh, before you go,

l 've got a friend back in Manchester,

ex-colleague who works in the fraud unit,

With your approval, I'd like to get his input.

Might be able to give us some insight as to what's going on here.

Yeah, listen, I need a flight out of St. Marie to London

as soon as possible.

Yeah, well, see what else you got.

I'm DC Andrew Buckley, by the way. Nice to meet you.

DS Naomi Thomas. Good to meet you, too.

So what can I do for you, guv?

You said you had some scam going down.

Yeah, well, l 've got a victim, goes by the name of Cheryl Horner,

pretended to work for a fake real estate company.

Invited a number of people to bid for a beach

that wasn't hers to sell.

Well, we can assume that Cheryl Horner's probably an alias.

If she's done this thing before,

her profile will be on our database.

That's worldwide.

Send some photos over,

That would be great.

I have to say, though, this is no small feat.

A con like this,

creating a fake business, finding the marks...

My hunch is she's probably not the only player involved.

Oh, there'll be an accomplice?

Oh, most definitely.

At the very least, it's a two-man grift.

All right, Sarge. We're on it.

They reckon there's an accomplice involved,

so you go around the back just in case. OK.

Mr Cook?

Darlene, he's heading out the back!

Marlon, you need to hurry up now.

I have NOT done this before on my own!

Ugh!

Looks like you got it covered, Trainee Officer Curtis.

With a little bit of help.

Come on.

so, are you denying you were involved in a scam with this woman?

Attempting to fraudulently procure funds from the illegal sale

of the beach at St. Agatha's Cove?

Look, I told you, I'm not saying nothing, all right?

I'm not stupid.

All right, we'll resume questioning in the morning.

Marlon, take him to the cells, please.

Sir?

Turns out Cheryl Horner was actually this woman,

Darianna Green.

My contact at the fraud unit dug that out, emailed it over.

She was a serial confidence trickster.

Originally from Dominica.

She's worked just about every island in the Caribbean and beyond.

She spent some years in Miami, too.

We're going to see what the police over there have on file.

And what about Ryan Cook?

Was he in on it with her?

His real name is Gavin Ellis from Romford in the UK.

No previous record.

We haven't done any background on him yet.

So we've identified our confidence tricksters,

but have we any idea why one of them was murdered?

HE SIGHS Not yet, no.

Funny one, though, innit? How do you mean, sir?

Well, when Darianna Green was murdered,

all three witnesses were on the beach.

They all swear there was no boat nearby.

no-one else was in the area,

and no-one was swimming out from the shore.

so where did the killer materialise from?

You could have at least tidied up while I was gone, Harry.

So your friend knows his stuff, sir - really helped us out.

Oh, yeah. He's a good lad, is Andy.

He's a great pub quizzer as well, you know.

He was basically our secret weapon when we were under pressure.

I remember a Christmas pub quiz 2O14 down at the local.

He aced a tie-break against our nemesis, janette,

from Quiz Team Aguilera.

There was some celebrating done by the Sherlock Homies that night,

let me tell you.

Anyway, back to the case.

We currently have zero suspects,

but there's a long list of people Darianna ripped off during her life,

so they're probably all queuing up for revenge.

I've seen the details of Miss Green's past victims

to our immigration department to see if any of them

arrived in Saint Marie recently.

What about our current detainee?

Gavin Ellis left school at 16,

worked on his father's market stall for a few years.

Then, in 2021, he left home and has been travelling ever since.

I'm not sure when and where he hooked up with Darianna Green.

Any suggestion he could be the killer?

We know he left the beach for a while when they came ashore.

Actually, sir, I did notice this.

Yesterday morning at 10:37am,

he received an alert on his mobile phone from the bank

that handles a business account he and Darianna set up together.

Apparently, $200,000 had been transferred

to her own personal account.

And I think I might know why.

Oh, yeah?

We've just been to the flat our two confidence tricksters

have been renting together.

I had a chat with the next-door neighbour.

The morning of the murder, before heading out,

he saw Mr Ellis arguing with the victim.

. . Mess this up for the both of us! And you can't be trusted, Darianna.

You can't be trusted.

Any idea what about?

Gavin was saying something about her becoming a liability.

And in response, Darianna told him it was over between them.

She wasn't working with him any more after today.

Then that same morning,

she transfers 200K of THElR money into her own personal account.

Yeah, I know what she'd done.

No idea if she realised I'd figure out like that, though,

and she probably didn't care.

That was Darianna for you.

Did what she liked and just sod everyone else.

And what was your reaction?

Well, I wasn't happy about it.

I was furious, to be honest.

So what did you do?

Nothing I could do,

except speak to Darianna later, after we finished the con.

So where did you go after you left the beach, Mr Ellis?

I told you, I went to the shop to buy cigarettes.

What? You honestly think that I could've killed Darianna Green?

How the hell could I have done that?

A few hours before Darianna moved that money into her account,

you were both heard arguing.

You called her a liability.

Why did you say that?

Cos she was.

She was a total liability.

In what way?

Well, look, I haven't been in this confidence game thing very long,

and she's been in it years, but...

...it don't take a genius to know when someone's making things

a little more risky than they need to be.

And how was she doing that?

She was having a thing with one of the marks,

a businessman, Peter Galbraith.

They were...

...enjoying each other's company, shall we say?

Housekeeping !

Uh, no. No, thanks. Don't need it.

Thank you, Jamaal. You're welcome.

Marlon, honey. Mm - hm?

There is a parcel for you.

Ooh!

I wonder what this could be.

It's heavy, too.

I do love a surprise. All right.

Well, um...

That's a bit of a disappointment, I'm not going to lie.

But, Marlon, it's your sergeant's training manual.

That's exciting !

Yeah, but it weighs more than I do.

You must have known you would have had to do some studying for it.

Yeah, just not this much.

Oh!

482 pages.

Who has ever read a book that is 482 pages long?

Oh, you got your sergeant's training manual!

I love that book.

For my sergeant's exam, I read it three times, cover to cover.

Youtre not human. You know that, right?

Guys, we're going to need you to head over to the shop

near St. Agatha's Cove,

see if they can verify Gavin Ellis's alibi.

We're on it, sir. Thanks.

Peter Galbraith was having a relationship with the victim.

We need to talk to him.

I want to know exactly what was going on between them

and for how long.

Let's see what we can dig up first.

Emails, texts, see what turns up.

Afternoon, sir.

If you're not buying anything, then I'm not interested.

All right?

Hey! What do you think you are doing? Give me that back.

Finally, we've got his attention.

Now, I'm going to press pause,

because that is a very annoying little tune,

and my colleague here, Trainee Officer Curtis,

is going to ask you a few questions.

Not in any trouble, am I?

Like what?

Nothing, I guess.

Around 11:00 yesterday morning,

did this man enter your store?

Uh, let me think a second.

Yeah.

Yeah, I remember him.

Came in for some cigarettes.

Can l got 20 Blakestone Lights, please?

Cheers.

And you're sure it's definitely him?

He just bought cigarettes and went?

Gave him a pack of Blakestone Lights, he paid,

that was it.

And, um, what's your name, sir?

Jermayne.

Jermayne Boon.

Well, all right, Mr Boon.

Thank you for your help.

What you are looking at?

Nothing, I guess.

You have yourself a good day.

The shopkeeper confirmed that Gavin Ellis was there

yesterday morning at around the time of the murder.

Well, look,

the murder took place on the boat that was anchored here.

And the shop is about haff a mile inland here.

And Gavin Ellis does have a motive,

but if he did do it, I have no idea how.

Also, sir, we've heard back from immigration.

They've been through the list of Darianna Green's past victims

in the Caribbean, and not one of them arrived in Saint Marie

in the past six months.

Well, that's a bit of a blow, isn't it?

So the only people in this case with any links to Darianna Green

are still these three.

All of whom can confirm they were on dry land

while the murder took place at sea.

It doesn't amount to much, does it?

Not really, sir, no.

All right. Well, Gavin Ellis's alibi checks out,

so we should charge him with attempted fraud and bail him.

I'll get on to processing that for you now, sir.

All right.

Backpack,

mobile phone,

lighter, set of keys,

and...

These are the cigarettes you bought at the shop at St. Agatha's Cove?

Mm-hm.

OK.

Yeah, I'm going to have to hold on to these, I'm afraid.

Mate, you're kidding me. I've been dying for a smoke all day.

There's a shop around the corner.

Out the station, turn left and you can't miss it. All good?

Yeah. Everything's brilliant, mate.

Perfect. Have a nice day, sir.

You OK? l was worried. I'm all right.

What do they know?

Nothing.

They know nothing.

So you think they're illegal?

Oh, yeah. I've seen this kind of thing before.

Firstly, the ink is poor quality.

See how the edges are blurred here? Ah.

And also there's a health warning missing.

Boy, you've got a keen eye.

The thing is, though, the local traders

want to crack down on this sort of thing.

So if I can get a result on it,

it gets me a few extra brownie points with the Commissioner.

And I could do with a few of those right now.

Show him that I'm proper sergeant material, you know?

I hear what you're saying,

but you have got a lot on your plate, Marlon,

what with the murder case, exam revision...

...and now this.

Darlene, relax.

All right?

I've got it covered.

Now...

. . let's go grab a beer.

Evening, Neville. Four beers?

Uh, you're a mind-reader, Catherine.

Ah.

So, I had some beautiful flowers delivered to my house today.

A beautiful bunch. Oh, yeah?

Got a secret lover you're not telling us about, Catherine?

Oh, of course, Neville!

Oh.

But in this instance, the flowers were from Sophie,

thanking me for looking after her while she was here.

So nice of her, no?

Yeah, that's very good of her.

Have you two spoken, emailed?

No.

No, we haven't, as agreed.

But, you know, it's fine.

It's fine. Everything's fine.

A little bird tells me you've been cleaning a lot.

Well, you know, tidy shack, tidy mind.

And a good distraction also, no?

Don't know what you mean.

Since she left, it's been obvious you're missing Sophie.

Well, yeah.

A tiny bit, but it's fine.

It really is fine.

Stop saying everything is fine, Neville!

Such an English word, "fine".

It's not good, not bad, it's just bland,

like your chicken and chips.

I think you're missing Sophie,

and you feel it was a mistake to say goodbye.

You should just admit it.

OK. You're right.

I am missing her.

But l think that ship has sailed.

Is that what he said to you?

Thank you, sir.

Do you blame me, though?

Come on. That's terrible, Marlon.

I mean, what would you all have said? Hmm?

There we go. There we go.

And you?

Good morning, guys.

You off out tonight, Darlene? I wish, Inspector.

I said I'd adjust the hem on DS Thomas's bridesmaid's dress.

Oh, who's getting married?

My best friend from back home in Saint Barnabas.

And, uh, on that subject, sir,

You haven't officially signed off on my leave form yet.

Well, let's put that right, then.

So I've been going through the victim's laptop.

Darianna Green lived a very isolated life.

There are no emails to friends or family.

It's all to do with work.

Well, we know she never settled down, kept on moving.

I guess that's the life of a con artist.

That said, there are a couple of emails of interest

between her and Peter Galbraith.

Oh, did we dig up any background on him?

He was born in Paisley, and he owns a chain of six

sportswear shops across Scotland.

His net worth is £20 million.

It's just Darianna seemed to be really opening up to him.

He talks about losing his wife recently.

About a year ago, she was ill.

And Darianna mentioned losing someone as well.

I know most of what we've uncovered about her suggests

she's deceitful and ruthless, but...

...there's definitely a softer side to her in these emails.

Inspector, Sarge, we've got the police case file on Darianna

over from Miami.

I'll print us up a copy each.

Thanks.

No Marlon today?

Seriously?

The cigarettes are counterfeit?

You really expect me to believe you didn't know that?

Dude, I had no idea.

Straight up.

It's the boss who orders all the products we sell.

Not me. Firstly, don't call me dude.

And secondly, can you please stop shovelling food into your mouth?

I need you to find out when the next delivery

of cigarettes are coming in.

Ugh, don't make me do that.

I don't want to get involved in all of this.

I just want a quiet life.

Keep things chill.

You get me? Yeah, man. I get you.

But I have to arrest somebody for selling counterfeit cigarettes.

Now that can either be you, or you can help me find out

who your boss is buying from.

So the real question is...

. .Jermayne, do you get me?

So you're saying you knew nothing about it?

Sir, Sarge, sorry I'm late.

I was just following up on a lead.

That's all right, Marlon. We've just been bringing ourselves up to speed.

OK.

So Hannah Roberts works as an executive PA

for a global communications firm in Miami.

Her boss knew nothing about her putting in a bid

for St. Agatha's Cove on his behalf, as she claimed she was doing.

He thought that she was just on annual leave.

So Hannah Roberts has been lying.

According to the Miami Police files,

she had a previous connection to the victim.

Four years ago, Darianna Green was setting up a scam

with another con artist called Lamar Brissett.

They were sourcing investment for a fake beach club development.

Long and short of it is Hannah's brother, Michael Roberts,

lost just over £100,000 of his own savings to Darianna Green.

The same night Michael found out he was being duped,

he got drunk, crashed his car,

died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Michael was different to me, more adventurous.

It's why he got a job in the US.

Wanted his life to be more interesting.

Did he tell you about any of it?

A bit. He said he had an opportunity to put some money into a beach club,

and I thought it was such a cool thing to do.

Um, the next thing I heard...

. .yeah, was from the police in Miami telling me he was dead.

And now you're here, four years later.

That's not a coincidence, is it?

I, um...

I went to Miami after Michaelts death.

I just wanted to be nearer to him.

And I ended up staying there.

And a couple of months ago,

I got an email from an exclusive real estate company...

. .about the beach.

How did you work out that it was the same person

who conned your brother?

I went on the website, and there was a photo of Cheryl Horner.

And her face, I just I knew it from somewhere,

because I downloaded all of Michael's photos from his phone,

and I remembered there was a picture of the two of them -

him with the same woman.

so you came out here wanting to get revenge,

wanting to kill Darianna Green?

No, no, I...

I didn't kill her, I swear.

You came all this way to meet the woman

who caused your brother's death, and what, nothing?

I know how it looks, but that is not what I wanted.

So, what did you want? Just. . . Oh, come on, Hannah.

Just to get back at her. And how were you going to do that?

How were you going to get back at her?

By doing what Darianna did to Hannah's brother!

By taking her for everything, everything she's got.

Wait, hold on. Are you two...?

No, no, it's not like that.

So what is it like?

On the morning of the con, after Darianna and I argued...

You're messing this up for the both of us,

and you cannot be trusted. You can't.

I went to the boat, and Hannah was already there.

She was sitting there, she was crying.

Why were you crying?

I was just about to meet the woman who killed my brother.

I just suddenly felt...

I felt overwhelmed all of a sudden and...

She told me everything that happened, about Michael, and...

What's wrong? Oh.

Look, for me, it was just a moment of clarity, you know?

I was fed up with Darianna.

I was fed up feeling sorry for myself.

And so I told her I'd help her. I told her I'd fix it.

And how exactly did you intend to fix it?

I said I'd help her get her brother's money back.

You were going to fleece Darianna?

Yeah.

Except she beat me to it.

Hannah Roberts has the strongest motive of all our suspects -

revenge for her brother's death. Mm-hm.

But I think Gavin Ellis is telling the truth.

I'm inclined to agree.

Just don't feel like they intended to kill Darianna Green.

So, then, who did?

Oh, this is Andy. He might have something for us.

Hi, Andy. How are you doing?

Oh, sorry, mate. I'll call you back in a minute.

Something's come up.

Um...

...there's something I didn't tell you before.

I mean, it's probably nothing.

But Peter knew about Cheryl Horner,

that she wasn't who she said she was,

that it was a confidence trick.

So... How did he find out?

Well, I told him.

I warned him on the back of the boat on the way to St. Agatha's Cove,

so he didn't pay her any money.

And it was only after that Gavin told me Cheryl and Peter

had been seeing each other.

So I just thought you should know.

Yeah, er, thank you.

So Peter found out the woman he had opened himself up to

after his wife's death is actually a con artist.

That's a real betrayal. And a real motive.

I've been thinking about buying a property over here for a while now,

so I got myself on a few estate agentst mailing lists,

and then I got this email from Cheryl's company

about St. Agatha's Cove.

And you replied saying you were interested?

She set up a video call, and we just hit it off.

You know?

Well, at least...

. .that's what she made me think.

Sorry, this is really not easy for me.

We've seen some of the emails you exchanged.

It seems like you bonded over the fact you were both widowed.

Mm - hm.

She seemed a bit lonely.

A bit like myself.

Kindred spirits.

Or so I thought.

So you arranged to meet socially when you got here?

Um, yeah.

I've not been with anyone since Maggie, my wife, passed.

And talking with Cheryl felt good, you know?

It felt all right because, um...

. .she'd been through it, too.

I guess we just needed a bit of comfort.

Affection.

What does it matter whether I had a fling with the woman or not?

You lied to us.

Because it's embarrassing, Inspector.

Humiliating.

Allowing myself to get fooled like that,

I just. . .feel so damn. . . used.

It also gives you motive, Mr Galbraith.

You were vulnerable, you opened up to her and she took advantage.

I was on the beach when it happened,

and there was a witness who was with me the whole time that I was there.

If it was me that murdered Cheryl Horner,

or bloody Darianna, whatever her name is,

how could I have done it?

so we have three suspects,

all of whom have credible motives,

but each of them also has a credible alibi.

After Darianna Green was left on the boat alive and well,

there's no way Gavin Ellis could have made it back to the boat

cos he walked haff a mile inland to buy cigarettes.

Can I get 20 Blakestone Lights, please?

And we know Hannah Roberts stayed on the beach the whole time.

Because she and Peter Galbraith can alibi each other.

Yeah, totally...

And yet, by the time they made it back to the boat,

Darianna Green had been murdered.

She's dead.

Oh, um...

Sorry, do you mind if I take this?

It's kind of important. Sure.

Jermayne, my man. What you got for me?

Sir, Peter Galbraith and Hannah Roberts

were each other's alibis.

But what if they were actually covering up for each other?

Well, it's possible, but I struggle to believe

that two people would conspire to commit murder together

within an hour of meeting each other.

Sir, that was Jermayne Boon,

the guy who works at the shop by the beach at St. Agatha's Cove.

He just gave me a tip-off of a delivery of counterfeit cigarettes

arriving at dawn tomorrow down by the harbour.

I mean, it'll get us in the good books

with the Commissioner at least.

And maybe focusing on another case for a few hours

might provide a distraction, because currently,

we are no closer to understanding how this murder was committed

than we were two days ago.

Let's organise the sting and pick this case up tomorrow. OK?

Hey, Andy, mate. Look, l'm sorry I didn't call you back.

It's been crazy here.

It's all right. No worries, Nev.

Hey, what are you still doing up? Isn't that like 3am there?

Um, yeah, just work.

Like you, I'm up to me eyes in it here.

Paperwork - it never ends, right?

Yeah.

It was good to see you the other day, Nev, after all this time.

You know, we all just get on with our lives,

and sometimes you forget what someone means to you.

Good friends, you and me, weren't we?

Yeah, of course we were.

We still are. Yeah, I suppose.

Is everything all right, mate?

Are you OK?

Have you been drinking?

Just one or two now, Nev. Just one or two, cos...

...maybe I was just after a bit of Dutch courage.

Cos there's something I want to talk to you about.

OK. So I don't want to have to tell you.

But, erm...

There's something that...

What is it?

Sorry, I can't, Nev.

Please leave a message after the tone.

Andy, give me a call, yeah?

If there's anything you need to talk about, I'm here.

Whatever it is.

Dl Parker to Commissioner Patterson.

We are in position. Over.

Received.

No sign of target yet. Over.

That's Jermayne Boon, sir.

Our informant. Now, just a heads up,

he can be quite annoying.

Morning. Morning, Jermayne.

This is Commissioner Patterson.

You all right there, brother?

You know, sir, Darianna Green definitely wasn't making it up

when she told Peter Galbraith she'd lost someone herself.

No?

That con was setting up in Miami four years ago,

the guy she was doing it with, Lamar Brissett,

well, they were more than just business partners.

Really? One of the marks they approached

turned out to have gangland connections,

figured out what they were up to

and sent some of these heavies

to administer a very serious punishment.

Darianna must have got away, obviously,

but what about Lamar Brissett?

He was beaten, taken out to sea and his body dumped.

No wonder she was still grieving.

How do you even begin to get over that?

Inspector, we have eyeball on our target.

All units are go.

Go, go, go!

Police. Stop what you're doing.

You're under arrest.

Commissioner, we've got a result.

Woohoo! Yeah, baby!

That was Marlon, Inspector, not me,

to be clear.

Congratulations, Officer Pryce.

That was some impressive work.

Thank you, sir.

I'm glad I could show you that I have some proper sergeant skills.

Sir, we're going to head back to the station

and process our suspects.

Might I ask before you go,

how are you getting on with the murder case?

Not great, to be honest, sir.

We've identified three suspects with strong motives,

but they all have watertight alibis.

I'm not really sure where we go from here.

Inspector, Sarge,

I reckon we're going to be here a little while longer.

There's loads more boxes of this stuff in the hold.

All right, Darlene, we'll see you back at the st..ation.

More boxes in the hold!

I mean, there would be, wouldn't there?

If you were smuggling counterfeit goods, you'd shove them in the hold,

especially if there wasn't any room on deck.

Of course you would!

The murder took place on the boat that was anchored here.

Anyone in the water?

The shopkeeper confirmed that Gavin Ellis was there

around the time of the murder.

Talking with Cheryl, she'd been through it, too.

I remembered there was a picture of him with the same woman.

And that's how someone managed to murder Darianna Green

when she was alone on a boat in the middle of the sea.

Marlon, we're going to need the crime scene kit.

And we need to go and talk to Hannah Roberts.

It was a bit of a tricky case for us, this one,

because that's what this murder was.

One final confidence trick by an expert in the field.

And here he is.

The man himseff, who's had us all fooled these past few days.

I, uh,

I really don't know what I'm doing there.

Oh, ho, ho, ho.

I think you do...

...brother.

That's right, Jermayne.

Or would you prefer we called you by your real name?

Lamar Brissett.

Sorry?

Lamar Brissett was a con artist who worked with Darianna Green

a few years back.

They were in Miami setting up a beach club scam

when Lamar was beaten, taken out to sea and left for dead.

Except he wasn't dead.

Of course, because here he is,

alive and kicking right in front of us.

Here are some photos that belonged to one of Lamar and Darianna's

past victims, Hannah's brother, Michael.

We went through these again,

and this is a picture of Michael with Darianna

and another man.

You...

... Lamar.

On the morning of the boat trip to St. Agatha's Cove,

Lamar arrived at the harbour early...

...and made his way to the boat that you'd all hired.

And hid himseff away in the hold out of sight.

He waited until the boat came to a stop,

and then, when he heard the dinghy going ashore,

that was his cue to make his way onto the deck.

Now, we know that Lamar and Darianna fought in the cabin.

And then the struggle moved on to the deck,

where Lamar must've grabbed the first heavy object to hand

and struck her twice.

We were initially troubled that no-one heard Darianna

scream out for help when she was attacked.

But now we know the murder occurred only a minute after

you cast off in the dinghy.

We believe the noise of the outboard motor dampened Darianna's cries.

After he was sure she was dead, Lamar dived into the sea

and swam as fast as he could back to the shoreline,

a little further along from the beach.

In the dinghy, facing forward,

taking in the picture postcard beach,

he could be fairly confident that your attention

was on what lay ahead,

not on the man swimming in the sea

a little distance behind you.

It was then just a case of picking up his bike

and riding it back to the shop.

And in this heat, with the air blowing on him as he went,

l can easily believe that his clothes would have dried out

by the time he got there.

Once back at the shop, he would take his place behind the counter,

and no-one would be any the wiser as to what he'd just done.

You should know,

Mr Brissett, that our two officers there

have just dusted the hold for fingerprints.

And I have every faith they would have found a pair

that matches yours.

The only question left to answer is,

why kill Darianna Green?

We assume it has something to do with what happened

in Miami four years ago.

The police there are of the belief Darianna made a lucky escape

when the heavies beat you and threw you out to sea.

They nearly killed me that night.

I'd been out gambling that afternoon.

When I got back to the motel where me and Darianna were staying,

she was already gone -

packed her bags and disappeared.

Next thing I know, I'm being set upon by three heavies.

I knew Darianna had the tip-off.

She got herself out of there as quickly as she could

to save her own skin.

I never wanted to go through anything like that again.

I just wanted to keep my head down,

live a simple, quiet life.

Which you did until Darianna Green showed up again.

I saw her from the shop.

When her and your man here was scouting the beach

for their next con.

I couldn't believe it was her,

after all these years.

She even talked about the beach con with me back in the day.

I just knew how it would turn out.

That's when I knew exactly what it was I had to do.

You wanted revenge,

and nothing was going to stop you from getting it.

That woman was dead inside before I even touch her.

Lamar Brissett, you are under arrest for the murder of Darianna Green.

You do not have to say anything that may harm your defence...

Ah, sir.

We were just heading to Catherine's bar for a drink.

It's a team celebration.

You're more than welcome to join us, Commissioner.

I appreciate the offer, but actually

I was on my way to break the good news

to the local traders association.

But I thought I'd pop in,

have a quick word with Officer Pryce.

Oh, well, uh, we'll leave you to it, then.

Ah...

Don't tell me,

you want me to come and show my face to these trader dudes,

let them meet the real hero of the day.

You know, sign a few autographs, take a few selfies.

I meant it when I said it was impressive what you did today,

spotting the counterfeit cigarettes,

organising the sting operation.

You did well.

Well, you know, sir, I am an excellent multitasker,

which is a quality that every police sergeant should have.

Right?

How's revision going?

Um...

I mean, you know.

Slowly.

Marlon...

I know you spent many years hustling people to get on in life.

But you're not going to pass this exam by trying to dazzle

your senior officers.

You're going to pass it by getting the answers right.

Hmm? Mm.

Mm? Mm-hm.

All right, Marlon.

I'll see you tomorrow.

It's just the three beers, Catherine.

Marlon's revising.

Is he?

Well, good for him.

Here you are, ladies. Merci.

And how is Neville?

I am worried about him.

He's not been himself recently.

I'm not sure why.

He is lovesick.

I'm sure of it. Women always know.

Amen to that.

Hey, Nev, mate. How have you been?

Hey. Yeah, l 'm good, Andy.

I'm good.

Listen, l just wanted to check in with you

after our conversation last night. You seemed, erm, not yourseff.

Yeah, about that. Look, I'm sorry.

I was a bit drunk.

I shouldn't have been bothering you.

Well, yeah, you said that you wanted to talk about something.

Is everything all right? Everything's cool, mate.

It's just. . . Just a couple of tough cases.

You know how it can be when the job gets inside your head.

Just needed to let off steam, I guess.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah. Honestly, mate, I'm absolutely fine.

But, listen, I'm gonna have to go,

cos I'm just on me way home from the pub, so see you soon, Nev.

Oh.

Cheers. Cheers.

I need to go somewhere called the Port Royal.

Naomi always talks very fondly about the island.

And within hours of her return,

someone commits murder.

Oh, sorry, sir. This is my room.

We'll just have to top and tail.

I reckon this island has a few secrets it's ready to share.

How are you? Me?

Well, these are your friends, people you grew up with.

You seriously think one of them did it?

He makes me feel like I'm not up to the job.

You got this wrong.

You're the last person they want to see right now.
