(grunts) Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Hey. (grunts)
I got it.
Thank you. That was a close one.
Looks like we got a lot done today. Good work.
Let's wrap it up, lock it down.
Meet me outside.
(indistinct chatter)
* You used to *
* Start fires *
* You used to start fires *
* Now I'm burning *
* My own body down *
* You used to lay up next to me *
* And remind me of our history *
* The way you smelled like-a love and almost trust *
* You would not want me anyway *
* 'Cause I was hurt there only yesterday *
* And I... *
What the hell is going on?
(grunting)
* Fire, whoa-oh-oh, whoa *
* Fire, whoa-oh-oh, whoa *
* Fire, whoa-oh-oh, whoa *
* Fire, whoa-oh-oh, whoa *
* *
* *
(sighs)
How's the water?
Oh. Cold.
Mm.
Thirsty.
Wow, nice shorts there, Rountree.
Those come in adult sizes?
What did I tell you, Sam?
And what did I tell you about bringing something to wear
under your wetsuit? Hmm?
Which you didn't, so
you get what's in the lost and found.
Are these... are these Deeks's swim trunks?
Relax, Rountree.
I know for a fact those are not Deeks's shorts.
They're Fatima's.
(laughs) Ha-ha.
42.5.
That's not bad for your first open-water mile.
Yeah, wasn't good, either. Stroke was off.
Maybe it was your shorts.
SAM: Thought you were a good swimmer?
Yeah, I am,
before I bike 12 miles and run a 5K.
And you,
you're his partner,
why aren't you training for this?
I wish I could. (sighs)
I envy you guys, but, unfortunately,
I got this thing.
What's it called again? Oh, that's right, um,
common sense.
(laughs)
And he's afraid of sharks.
Really?
There aren't any sharks out there.
Did he tell you that?
Yeah.
Why don't you ask him
what happened to McMurtry?
What happened to McMurtry?
Nothing happened to McMurtry.
There is no McMurtry.
Not anymore.
Wh...
See you boys back at the office.
Shame on you, he's just a kid.
Later, shark bait.
Yo, Sam, what happened to McMurtry?
I'm-a hit the shower.
("The Punch Line" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones playing)
Whoo!
* Sometimes *
* Sometimes you've got to be the punch line... *
KILBRIDE: Morning, Deeks. Oh!
Admiral.
(music stops) How are you, sir?
Good. (sighs)
Good to see someone besides myself
making good use of the early morning hours.
Indeed I did. Yeah, with, uh, Kensi and Rosa
away on a school trip,
I was able to dawn patrol some surfing,
knock out a quick, yet intense, workout,
and even squeeze in a little target practice.
Pretty much my pre-kid routine.
Not that I'm complaining because
I think that Kensi and I are really dividing
and conquering this whole parenting game.
Yes, I can see that.
Actually, there was something
that I wanted to speak with you about.
I would like to put your name in the hat
to attend the, uh,
NCIS western conference.
Wow. I mean, I'm-I'm flattered you would even
think of me. I mean, you have to admit that
this friendship has really blossomed...
Okay, maybe this wasn't such a...
No, no, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
I'm sorry. In all seriousness,
thank you for thinking of me. I just,
I feel like I need to stay
as close to home as possible right now
with everything going on,
but I'm sure one of the-the younger agents
would love to go to Branson.
You know, maybe-maybe Rountree.
Feel like he would love a good river cruise.
Well, I will...
be sure to give Agent Rountree the proper
consideration. Mm.
Good.
Oh, and by the way, it is not being held in Branson this year.
Uh, no, they're holding it in Nosara.
Nosara?
Nosara,
C-Costa Rica?
That would be the one, yeah.
Oh, that's... Well, you know what, before we...
talk to Rountree, maybe I should just run it
by Kensi to see if I could just skip out
for a few days. A week.
A week... A week,
and I will need answer by the end of the day,
so don't dillydally.
No, no, of course not. Don't--
Never dillying or dallying. (door opens, closes)
Oh... (exhales)
Man, about time, I'm freezing.
That was a good shower.
Hope there's some hot water left.
Come on, man. Oh. We got a case.
Well, wait, before you log in...
Good morning, Fatima.
Morning.
CALLEN: Where's Deeks?
Oh, trying to get permission from Kensi
for a boondoggle.
Hmm.
Hey, Sam, uh, is Rountree still with you?
He is.
Rountree. (laughs) (exhales)
Are you wearing my shorts?
(laughs) I'm just kidding.
Those are Kensi's.
You know what? I hate all of you.
What do we got?
A fire at Global West Ventures Corp,
a Naval defense contractor.
It appears to be arson, and the FBI believes that
they know who set the fire.
Y'all recognize this?
That looks eerily familiar.
It's the signature of a rather infamous arsonist,
Randall Perez, also known as...
"On Alert."
He considered himself putting his targets
"on alert" for the crimes they committed.
Did you work that case?
No, but I remember him well.
He had the FBI "on alert" for years.
Is this the same guy who blew up an oil tanker?
Yeah. Talk about Carmageddon.
He shut down the 405 freeway for a week.
Any casualties in this recent fire?
The building is under renovation,
and the foreman, Michael Duncan,
was found dead inside.
LAPD believes that he actually caught the arsonist in the act
and was then assaulted
and left for dead at the scene.
You know, it's one thing to burn down a building,
it is another to take a life.
If I remember, Perez's MO focused on companies
that committed environmental crimes.
Why would he attack the defense contractor?
It's unclear.
The company has multiple highly classified Naval projects
in development on all four of its campuses.
If there's a vendetta against this company,
we need to find out what it is. We need to stop
this arsonist before he attacks another location
and kills more innocent people.
We're on it.
All right, since Rountree's already with me,
we'll hit the crime scene.
Actually, Kilbride wants Agent Rountree
to work with the FBI lead agent on Perez's task force,
and, Sam, hang tight,
the agent will brief you both in the boatshed.
And what would Kilbride have me do?
He wants you to meet him in his office.
(soft chuckle)
Hey.
Hey, Sam, this is, uh, FBI Agent Morehurst.
Agent Castor. Sam Hanna.
Pleasure to meet you.
My boss speaks very highly of you.
However, he did warn me not to play you in pickleball.
Oh, you must work with Rasheed.
Agent Perkins. Mm-hmm.
He knows very well what can happen
when I have a paddle in my hand. (laughs)
(grunts) So...
tell me about Perez.
Well, as a young man,
Perez took a non-violent,
creative approach to his activism.
He's a trained visual artist
and built sculptures out of plastic straws
found in the ocean.
So, why would an artist turn into
an environmental terrorist?
Eventually, he began participating
in more radical protests
and was arrested numerous times
for disorderly conduct. When did the fires start?
2017.
It took us a year to ID Perez as a suspect.
Um, but as we closed in on him,
he went on a spree, setting nine fires in two months.
So, we can expect another fire?
Very likely.
After his last fire,
we almost caught him.
We believe he escaped to Mexico
and has been a fugitive for the last three years.
This is the one that got away?
Proverbially and literally.
Is this the first time he resurfaced?
Yes, and, this time, I'm gonna catch him.
You're determined? Very much.
Yo, Sam, did I leave my bag out here?
Devin?
Summer.
What are you doing here?
Oh, I take it you two know each other?
Um, you could say that. Yeah, you could say that.
Wow. Well, isn't this a pickle.
A pickle.
Enter.
(clears throat)
What's on your mind, Agent Callen? (door closes)
I get that Rountree
has a relationship with FBI. Great.
Team him with the FBI, but he's a big boy.
Okay? He doesn't need to be babysat,
especially when he's just getting briefed.
I'm sorry you miss your bunkie,
but this isn't summer camp.
It's just a waste of time for Sam.
Sam isn't being partnered with Rountree today.
He's partnered with Deeks, poor devil.
And why is that?
Because that's what I wanted.
Don't get me wrong,
it is healthy to question authority...
on occasion.
But when it gets
to be a regular pattern of behavior,
quite frankly, it begins to piss me off.
What is this?
This is everything I could find on your buddy Pembrook.
(sighs)
Thank you.
It isn't a gift, Agent Callen.
It is my attempt to keep you focused on the job
and not some ghost from an unhappy childhood.
Now, you won't have to be distracted
by your own research, so knock yourself out.
My personal time has never impacted
my work here in the office.
Now, if that were truly the case,
you and I would not be having this conversation, would we?
I don't...
Quit while you're ahead.
Less talking, more reading.
Consider today your library day,
and, hopefully, you'll find something in there
that will allow you to put this to bed
once and for all. Dismissed.
Sam took off?
Yup.
He left a while ago. Oh.
Hey, sorry about my reaction earlier. (chuckles)
It's just, you kind of caught me off guard.
You want some coffee? Juice? Uh, milk?
Wait... wait a minute,
you don't think I set this whole thing up, do you?
I mean...
Well, you-you-you knew I worked at NCIS, so...
Yeah, but if I wanted to see you-- which I didn't--
I would've called you.
Oh, but, you know, I-I forgot,
you don't know how a phone works.
Ooh...
Ouch.
Fair shot.
(sighs)
Can we just start over?
I realize that my opening line should've been an apology.
Yeah, it's not necessary.
"We" were a long time ago.
Yeah.
Listen, I was...
leaving the Bureau,
my little sister, she was
starting college,
just had a lot on my plate.
MOREHURST: Like I said, there's no need to apologize.
We only dated for, what, three months?
Oh, damn. Uh... three months?
Uh... Oh, okay. I don't know if that was an insult
or a compliment or... No, no, no, I...
Um... (clears throat) Excuse me.
Hey, Fatima.
(clears throat) Uh, this is Summer.
I mean, Agent Morehurst.
Uh, this is Special Agent Fatima Namazi.
I-It's nice meeting you, Agent Namazi.
Nice to meet you as well.
So, I, uh, I did a search on Perez's family
and his sister still lives in town.
It's the same house for the last 20 years.
Denise Perez. She's in Gardena.
(phone ringing) Uh...
I'm sorry, I have to take this. It's nice meeting you.
Hey.
What happened between you two?
It's a long story.
Can't be that long,
you only dated three months.
(grunts) Fatima... (monitor beeps)
I had my agents look into the construction company
Global West hired to do the renovation.
Thought that might be who Perez had it out for, but, so far,
no environmental red flags, only a couple of OSHA complaints.
Hmm. All right, well, if Perez is back in town,
he'll most likely want to meet up with his sister.
Yeah. He has a daughter as well.
She lives with her aunt, but...
she was only 14 when Perez went on the run.
All right, well, let's talk to them.
Yeah, yes, of course. I love you, too.
All right, bye, baby.
So, what did she say?
I didn't bring it up. Why?
I mean, Kensi is chaperoning 25 16-year-olds
on a field trip to our nation's capital.
Seems like a little bit of a selfish time to ask her
if I could go on a surf trip to Costa Rica.
You do know you have to attend the conference, right?
Listen, if I'm in Nosara,
I'm definitely gonna find time to go surfing.
You sure? Yes.
Yes, I'm sure.
Just out of curiosity, though,
what would you do with your dad and everything being here?
I wouldn't go, but, frankly, I couldn't go if I wanted to.
That's the thing about being a caregiver,
you have to put other peoples' needs first.
Mm-hmm.
Right. Thank you.
Right. Damn it. Right.
(whistles) He really did some damage.
Not as much as he could have.
All of Perez's fires were set between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m.
If he'd stuck to his usual MO,
Mr. Duncan would be alive right now.
He could've burned down this whole complex.
Well, maybe Perez was trying to send a more subtle message.
Maybe it wasn't Perez.
Global West is extremely lucky
that the fire was contained to just this room.
(scoffs) Not to mention
how fast the fire department got here.
So, you're thinking it wasn't luck?
I'm thinking we need to dig deeper
into Global West's financials.
Wouldn't be the first time a company set a fire
just to collect the insurance money.
Using Perez's signature
to distract from the real crime.
Maybe.
ROUNTREE: Crystal, thanks for coming down and talking to us.
I'm sure this renewed interest in your father
is taking a toll on you.
A toll?
Do you have any idea
what Crystal has been through?
She's had to change schools four times.
As soon as someone found out her father was
"On Alert," she would be bullied.
And finally she's graduated,
has a job she loves, and is off to college,
and now this.
Ms. Perez, your brother has caused a lot of harm,
and we want to stop him before he causes any more damage.
Or takes any more lives.
We just have a few simple questions.
Are you okay?
Sounds like you have a great job.
Where do you work?
The Annenberg. I'm a docent.
I want to be a curator after college.
MOREHURST: That's really cool.
Has your father ever reached out to you?
DENISE: No.
We haven't seen or heard
from him since he disappeared.
Is that true, Crystal?
Her father is the last thing we need in our lives.
We don't talk to him.
We don't talk about him. He's dead to us.
Actually...
that's not exactly true.
Why didn't you tell me?
He is dangerous.
You wouldn't understand.
Help us understand.
Yeah, what do you and your father talk about?
Well, he apologizes, mostly.
My mom died right after I was born,
and he feels bad that he's not around.
And he's sorry that he did what he did,
with the fires and everything,
but he felt like...
the world was crumbling around us,
and he had to do something
to make everyone wake up.
Hmm.
Did he ever give you any indication
he was trying to get back in the game?
No.
He even talked about
turning himself in and serving his time.
Did he tell you where he lives?
No.
When's the last time you spoke to your father?
Can you, um...
write down your cell phone number?
I don't want to get him in trouble.
Crystal, he's already in trouble, we just want
to help him.
FATIMA: Deeks.
What do you got, Fatima?
So, I reviewed Global West's financials,
and they're clean.
As a matter of fact, they are flush with cash.
They sold off a portion of the company last year
for a huge profit.
Uh, insurance money
would be a drop in the bucket at this point.
All right, copy that. Thank you.
So, Fatima couldn't find any financial motive
for Global West to light their own building on fire.
What about you, you find anything in that, uh,
fire inspector report?
It's only preliminary.
Apparently, the arsonist used thermite
as an accelerant.
It's easy to make and transport.
So, just like Perez.
Don't forget, Perez uses his own recipe.
We'll have to wait for the final arson report
to see if they match.
Fortunately, none of the unique ingredients
have been released to the public.
Oh, that's interesting.
So, if this was the handiwork
of a copycat, they wouldn't know the exact recipe.
Exactly. Huh.
If Perez or the copycat
continue to follow Perez's arson pattern,
they're gonna need more ingredients.
I mean, it would take a ton of thermite
just to cover this room.
Only a few retailers where you can buy
iron oxide and aluminum powder
in bulk. If we can find out where a large purchase was made,
may lead us to the arsonist.
I'm gonna call Fatima.
PEMBROOK: Remember?
Feelings cause pain.
DEEKS: So, we've already found three footprints
heading down the hallway.
Well, I appreciate your enthusiasm,
but it's highly unlikely
that an accelerant stuck to his shoe long enough
for us to track it outside.
I'll have you know that I'm a fan
of Forensic Phil's Freaky Friday channel.
Don't tell me you learned how to be a detective on the Internet.
If the grooves on the base of his sole
are deep enough, there's a chance the thermite residue
may last a little bit longer.
Well, hopefully, there's a camera out here.
Check this out. DEEKS: What you got?
SAM: Acceleration marks.
Maybe the arsonist parked back here.
Or somebody picked him up.
Oh.
Check this. I got a footprint.
Well, that could be anyone.
Well, there's only one way to find out.
Oh!
Wow! Ladies and gentlemen,
that is what the Internet is for.
You, my friend, got lucky. Did I?
So, if the car sped east to the street,
which these acceleration marks indicate...
Then the arsonist got in on the passenger's side.
There was a driver.
The arsonist must've had an accomplice.
Yeah, but Perez always worked alone.
This is feeling more and more like a copycat arsonist.
Now, we're looking for two.
(door opens, footsteps approach)
They say that
daydreaming restores the brain,
but I've always seen it as
a pastime of the idle mind.
I'm sorry, Admiral.
I-I wasn't daydreaming,
I was listening to Rountree and Agent Morehurst.
Apparently, they dated a while ago,
and I think Rountree ghosted her.
Oh, ghosting is when...
I know what ghosting is, Agent Namazi.
And, fascinating as the love lives
of my agents are,
I'd like a sitrep.
Sure.
So, Sam and Deeks were right about a car leaving the alley
at the time of the fire.
A traffic cam caught the getaway car
with two people inside.
Well, that confirms that the arsonist
has an accomplice.
Could you ID them?
I was able to get an image of the passenger,
but it's too grainy for facial rec.
That could be Perez
or Elton John.
Unfortunately, the plates don't match.
It's most likely stolen. Yeah.
In fact, they belong to a dead guy.
Well, this is just dead end after dead end.
Anything come from talking to Perez's family?
So, I found a number
in Crystal's phone records believed to be Perez's,
and not long after Perez's sister, Denise,
left the boatshed,
she also called the same number.
So, Denise lied to us.
She has been in contact with Perez.
Where is she now?
Rountree and Morehurst are tailing her.
Well...
even though this is beginning
to look like the arson
is the work of a copycat,
Denise could still lead us to Perez.
That's a chance we shouldn't pass up.
So, keep me updated...
about Denise, not Rountree's love life,
and, uh, cut the eavesdropping.
Understood, sir.
FATIMA (over comms): Hey, guys?
'Sup, Fatima?
I located two stores that carry
the type of iron oxide and aluminum powder
used to make thermite in the bulk that was needed.
Now, one of them made a large delivery
to a company called Core Dynamics in Highland Park
two days ago.
Company has no DBA,
and the address
is actually an apartment building.
Send us the address. We're on our way.
(sighs)
Hey, hey. Wait a minute.
For what? Denise lied to us.
She's known how to reach Perez this whole time.
I'm taking her in.
ROUNTREE: She keeps checking her phone, all right?
She's probably meeting somebody.
It could be Perez. (sighs)
We got movement.
It's Perez. Told you it wasn't a copycat.
Federal agents. I've got Perez.
Out of the car.
(gasps)
Rountree!
(tires screech)
(car engine starts)
ROUNTREE: Perez!
(tires screech) Stop!
Out of the car now.
(panting) Damn it!
What was the name of the website?
Brings in an extra
$200 per month.
Got to have a side hustle.
Easy money.
We'll need a list of all your tenants.
Not a problem.
Where the hell is the car?
Looks like a prep station.
Stop! What the hell are you doing?
I'm saving your life.
That's probably an IED set to trigger an accelerant.
Burn this place down and cover their tracks.
Fatima,
have LAPD roll a unit out here.
Tell them we found an IED. We need the bomb squad.
You can take me to jail.
I have nothing to say to you two.
I don't think you get it.
You're looking at life in prison
for the attempted murder of two federal agents,
let alone aiding and abetting a known fugitive.
A judge may be more lenient if they know
you cooperated with the investigation.
Randall did not set this fire.
You want to pin it on him because of his past.
He said you guys would do this.
How are you so sure he's innocent of this new fire?
I was around when Randy got caught up
in all the activism and protesting.
He believed in his cause
and thought he was doing the right thing.
That's the only reason I forgave him.
We know that there were two people
connected to this fire yesterday.
Do you know if he worked with anyone?
How could he work with someone if he didn't do it?
FATIMA: Hey, guys.
Am I clear to approach? It's clear.
Bomb squad disabled the IED.
Yeah, there wasn't enough explosive in the IED
to do much damage,
but with all the accelerant residue...
(sighs) ...it could've taken out the entire building.
Thank you.
Hold on to that. Where's Callen?
Ah, Kilbride said he's busy,
so he sent me.
I don't remember anything about Perez
setting booby traps.
There's a lot about this case
that doesn't match Perez, but we can't ignore the fact
that he's back in town.
So, this is all I could
find of the combined accelerant. You're up.
SAM: All right, now, if this sample matches Perez's recipe,
at least we can confirm that he's one of our arsonists.
So, uh... what's your take on Morehurst?
She was nice...
till Rountree came in.
FATIMA: Oh, yeah?
DEEKS: Wait, what'd I miss?
Agent Morehurst and Rountree used to date.
Oh, that's the good tea.
Tell me more.
I think there's still some romantic tension there, no?
They kind of remind me of
When Harry Met Sally... meets Love Jones.
You know what I mean?
No, I don't know what you mean.
Uh-uh.
Does Rountree know you're listening in?
It's not my fault they don't turn off their comms.
(beeps)
Okay, we've got iron oxide,
aluminum-- which makes classic thermite--
and... sulfur.
That's Perez's secret ingredient.
It's an exact match for Perez's recipe.
DEEKS: Check this out.
FATIMA: Hm, see what I can find.
Map of Glendale.
That's where Global West is located.
This bin is full of a bunch of different maps of Los Angeles.
FATIMA: Okay, I think I found something.
All right, I did a search for
Global West, and I found a list.
Global West is fifth on that list.
Any one of the places on that list could be a target.
Okay, we got a healthcare company,
uh, an investment bank,
and a shoe manufacturer.
What do those companies have in common with Global West?
I don't know, but any of those places could get hit.
Alert LAPD.
Make sure all of those locations are notified.
KILBRIDE (over comms): Sam, Deeks.
I have new information
on the dead man's license plates.
The plates belonged to a Christian Navarro,
who died last year, but, before he died,
his car was involved in two DUIs,
both committed by his son,
Marco Navarro.
Now, I ran him
against Perez and found that
they had been arrested together
multiple times at different climate change protests.
That could be Perez's accomplice.
Or Navarro influenced Perez,
changed his MO.
Well, unfortunately, the Navarro family
no longer lives at the address on file,
but I am sending his picture over.
I've already sent it to Rountree.
Maybe this will get Denise talking.
But I may have an address on Perez.
The last known location
of the burner phone was a house in Echo Park.
I am sending it to your phones now.
DEEKS: Copy that.
Hey, man, uh, Delivery Wizard.
I got a, uh, Philly Cheesesteak here for...
Perez. Oh, hey. How are you, sir?
(door unlocks)
I didn't order anything. You got the wrong house.
Oh, yeah, no, it definitely says it.
You're Perez, right? Because it's already been paid for.
I got it here written on the app-- Federal agents.
Sam, he's coming to you.
Not so fast.
I didn't do anything.
Where's Navarro? We know you're working with him.
We're not working together. (panting)
I've been trying to stop him.
SAM: Yeah, give me your hand.
(handcuffs click)
House is clear. LAPD's on the way.
Navarro's out there, preparing to set another fire.
Where is he?
I have no idea.
Look, I'm looking for him, too.
That is the God's honest truth.
So, if you're not involved,
how'd you know Navarro started the fire?
Before I went underground,
I asked him to keep some of my stuff.
I had a pipette filled with the accelerant mixture that I use.
Navarro is smart.
Must've broke it down with a mass spectrometer.
When I heard about the fire
and that someone was using my signature,
I knew it had to be Navarro.
SAM: Assume we believe you.
Navarro started this latest fire.
We know he had an accomplice.
If not you, then who?
I don't know.
When I met Navarro, he was young, mad,
and impressionable.
He wanted to change the world.
He used to hang out at the house all the time.
He became like family.
When he found out who I was,
he wanted to join me, but I put him off.
I swear, we are not working together.
Navarro know your sister?
No, no. I lived on the other side of town from Denise.
What about Crystal?
She know Navarro?
Yeah, he was like a big brother to her.
SAM: If Crystal's close
to Navarro, she may still be in contact with him.
Rountree? ROUNTREE (over comms): What's up, Sam?
Was Castor able to locate
Crystal?
ROUNTREE: No. We tried to reach her,
but her phone's turned off.
Denise said this wasn't like her,
and, according to her job,
she hasn't been to work in over a week.
She quit out of the blue.
Crystal quit her job. We can't locate her.
When you spoke with her, did she ever mention Navarro?
No. I mean... (sighs)
Maybe I mentioned him from time to time,
just telling old stories, yeah.
Did Crystal know Navarro has your stuff?
Yes. Maybe...
Listen, if you think that she is involved
with Navarro, you're wrong.
She knows that I regret what I did.
Or you regret getting caught.
MOREHURST: Alert me as soon as you know.
My agents found Crystal's car at a mini-mart in Sylmar.
Hmm. A clerk saw her get into a light blue sedan
with a man that matches Navarro's description.
They're checking the camera for plates. Denise?
ROUNTREE: She doesn't recall Crystal mentioning any new friends
or acting suspicious, but...
she could be lying to cover up for Crystal.
Just like she protected Perez.
(sighs)
If Crystal and Navarro are both intent
on carrying out Perez's mission,
where's the environmental angle?
Maybe we're looking at this all wrong. Hmm.
If Navarro has sought out Crystal,
then maybe he has his own agenda. Mm.
FATIMA (over comms): Rountree, you might be right.
I broadened my search to find a connection
between the companies on the list from the garage,
and I found one.
All the companies donated large sums
to Senator Greg Garrett's reelection campaign.
Okay, so why attack the companies?
Garrett recently killed a major climate bill in the Senate.
They want to punish the companies for supporting him
and keeping him in office.
So, what's the next target?
The senator's in town.
He's touring an abandoned factory
that's part of an urban renewal project
in Newhall, but it's not on the list.
That's near Sylmar, where Crystal met up with Navarro.
If Crystal and Navarro are headed to that factory...
Then they're not trying to attack any of the companies,
they're after the senator. Mm-hmm.
Fatima, can you alert Deeks and Sam
and the senator's team? We're on our way.
Looks like the senator's already arrived.
Fatima, were you able to speak to the senator's team?
Yes. We're evacuating everyone.
If Crystal and Navarro came straight from Sylmar,
they're gonna have an hour-long jump on us.
That's enough time to lay down accelerant and torch this place.
You two. We got to find the senator fast.
* *
SAM: Any sign of the senator?
No, not yet.
No sign of Crystal or Navarro.
12 o'clock.
SAM: Federal agents!
We got eyes on Crystal. Keep looking for Garrett.
Senator Garrett.
We're here to get you and your team out of here safely.
I'm with NCIS.
(gunshots) (man grunts)
Get behind me.
I got Navarro.
Crystal, you've already done enough damage.
Come out. We can help you.
Doesn't look like there's an exit.
She's got to be in here.
It's an old building, she might have found a way out.
Rountree, Morehurst, keep eyes out for Crystal.
MOREHURST: Copy that. Rountree is on Navarro.
(both grunting)
ROUNTREE: Guys, I got Navarro.
Crystal, stop!
I got eyes on Crystal.
So do I.
This is over, Crystal.
We have Navarro. Yeah.
We are not the criminals.
We believe you, okay?
We know that Navarro put you up to this.
Put your hands up.
I'm covered in thermite.
If you don't let me go, I will light myself
and this bag on fire!
You know that's not what your father would've wanted.
He did all of this for you.
He loves you.
You don't have to do this, Crystal.
Come on.
Come on.
(exhales) Let's go.
Hands.
You guys good?
Well, nothing a warm shower
and cold beer won't fix.
The senator, are they okay?
His aide's on the way to the hospital.
Sorry to disappoint you, Crystal.
We put the fire out.
We knocked it down.
You know, I always wanted to be a fireman.
SAM: Mm. Mostly just to get in the calendar.
(chuckles) Really?
(exhales, groans)
Oh, Admiral!
I was just coming to see you.
Ah, good work today.
And I just got word that the senator's aide
only suffered a flesh wound and is doing well.
Well, that is good to hear
'cause Navarro was out for blood.
That could have been a lot worse.
Indeed.
You wanted to see me.
Is this about the conference?
Yes, yes, after extensive consideration,
I have decided...
not to attend.
That's understandable.
I'm sure that Agent Blye was relieved.
Actually, she was okay with me going.
And said if I didn't, that she would.
Ah.
Your call, Agent Deeks.
And a good one, if I do say so myself.
Thank you, sir.
And don't feel too bad.
There's always...
Albuquerque next year.
I love Albuquerque.
Mm.
And I'll make sure that Agent Rountree
thanks you for his trip to Costa Rica.
(stammers)
Don't worry, I won't let him forget it, sir.
(both laugh)
Hey, come on, don't cry.
We'll see each other.
And until then, we'll write, okay?
(sniffles) I love you, sweet girl.
(crying): Love you, Daddy.
All right, let's go.
(Rountree sighs)
Wow, that was bittersweet.
Yeah, it's a shame.
She reaches out to Navarro
to get her father's belongings and winds up
an arsonist and a murderer.
Yeah.
Hey, uh... Hmm?
...thanks for coordinating that with your office,
you know, so they could see each other. Yeah.
Yeah. I owe you one.
I saved your life today.
I think you owe me more like five.
(chuckles softly)
Okay. Five IOUs.
And don't you worry, I'll be calling in all of those favors.
Mm.
You're gonna call me?
(inhales deeply)
I got to go.
(sighs)
You know what, um, and thanks for that apology.
I didn't realize how much I needed that.
It was fun working with you today.
Yeah, we work well together.
We do.
Agent Morehurst, you're still here.
Uh, I was just leaving.
It was lovely meeting you, Agent Hanna.
Nice to meet you, as well.
Tell Rasheed I'll see him next weekend.
I may join him.
Yeah? Mm-hmm.
I'm not a nice guy in the Pickledome.
Neither am I.
Okay, be ready.
I will. All right, goodnight. All right.
Good night.
(door opens)
Thought you were leaving. (door closes)
Yeah, I was, but I figured
I'd get prepped for tomorrow.
Want to get an early start. How's 4:30 a.m. sound?
Are you gonna call her?
What? Her-- Oh. (scoffs)
Nah, man, she don't want me to call her.
You know what your problem is? I see what it is. What?
When you're faced with challenges
that have an unknown variable,
you start getting all in your head.
Sometimes you just got to do the work, dive in,
enjoy the ride.
Hmm? Yeah.
You're right, I-I... I do think...
Call that woman, man, call her!
She's probably still sitting in the car.
Matter of fact, go, go. All right, all right, all right.
(line ringing) Go.
Summer, hold up.
I always enjoy a nice scotch
with a good book.
Yeah, this is a real page-turner.
Did you read this?
No, no.
But I did call in some favors
to get everything I could find.
But this is your story, Agent Callen.
It is not my place to...
invade your privacy.
Now, that said,
if there's anything in there you want to talk about,
you know where to find me.
(clears throat)
We've all done things we regret.
Hetty doesn't seem to be the kind of person to regret much.
Don't kid yourself.
Now, she may put on a good front,
but Hetty has enough regrets for all of us.
She has done things that most wouldn't...
to keep the rest of us safe.
Unfortunately, that comes with some...
very dark, ugly things
that you carry with you to your grave.
Well, I'm not sure how indoctrinating children
does much to keep people safe.
I don't know.
Seems to me you keep people safe every day.
So maybe some good did come of it.
Even if their methods were...
ethically and morally questionable.
If not reprehensible.
I don't always agree with her.
And I usually don't like the way she operates.
Hell, I'm not even sure I even like her most days.
But I damn well respect her.
Henrietta-- and I'm sure that's not even her real name--
Henrietta has dedicated
her life to the greater good.
She has made mistakes along the way
just like the rest of us.
But it was always done in the service
of this country.
So...
am I a mistake or a...
dark, ugly thing she has to carry to the grave?
(sighs)
Only you can decide that, Agent Callen.
But in my experience,
the past is a place to learn from.
Not to live in.
Enjoy the scotch.
Turn off the lights when you leave.
(sighs heavily)
