- And welcome to the 25th
Annual Family Film Awards.

- Tonight we're celebrating

all the family entertainment
accomplishments

that span across so
many different genres.

- From dramas to comedies
and everything in between.

Watching our favorite
films and TV shows

brings our families together.

- And also stops us from
fighting over the remote.

- That's not the only
reason to watch it

but it is up there
in the top three.

- What are the other two?

- Oh well,

we have incredible storytelling
and great performances.

- You know you are
absolutely right

and we have a
packed show tonight.

So I think it's time to start
off with our first award.

- Outstanding Young
Actor in a TV or film.

(audience clapping)

- Presented by an on-screen mom

who knows a thing or two about
working with young actors.

- Here's "Wizards of Waverley
Places", Maria Canals-Barrera.

(upbeat music)

- Well, working on sets
for years playing a mom.

I've had the opportunity
to see young actors

work just as hard
as anybody else

on top of doing their
schoolwork in between scenes.

That dedication is why
tonight, we are recognizing

these entertainers
for their work

as an Outstanding Young
Actor in TV or film.

And the nominees are.

(dramatic music)

- I'm not cool.

(nervous laughter)

I've really missed that.

- Missed what?

- Your laugh.

- He's trying to
merge our two worlds

ours and yours

and he needs all
the keys to do it.

I've been trying to get the
alpha key so I can stop him!

- Look you're just a kid, okay.

You don't understand
what's going on here.

- I know my mom lost her job
and got kicked outta the church

because you won't
marry my brother.

- I didn't know that.

- So did I win this argument?

Feels like I did.

- In the presence of a
stronger electromagnetic field,

towards that power.

So either there's some super

- There's a gate.

- I thought it would be
cool to have a superhero

who actually fights for us but,

I don't know maybe she's
just making things worse.

- I doubt that boy from
the minaret would agree.

convince everyone

Awards and accepting an award

about a character who
experiences the real

ups and downs of a
family is amazing.

the continued support

and for making this
moment possible.

- Our next award is for
Best Iconic Family Film.

- We are honoring
an all time classic.

But you know, Dean, rather
than us talking about it

why don't we bring
up a few cast members

who can probably talk
a little more about it.

- That seems like
a pretty good idea.

Here's Zach Ward

- Hey Everybody.

As an actor, you
find yourself on set

and you always want to think

that you are making
a good movie.

- But I think I can speak
for all of us and say

we never really knew how
iconic this film is gonna be.

- Or how much of a holiday
tradition it would become.

I mean, I was just a
bully in the back alley

that nobody wanted
to associate with so.

- Yeah, and I could
never turn down a dare

no matter how dangerous it was

even if it meant sticking
my tongue to a frozen pole

in the middle of the winter.

- But I guess we could
say it, it all panned out.

- Yes, matter of fact,

let's take a walk
down memory lane

and get a glimpse of
a Christmas story.

- [Old Man] It's a Major Award.

- [Swede] It looks like a lamp.

- It is a lamp, you nincompoop,
but it's a Major Award.

I won it!

(jingling Christmas music)

- [Narrator] There are lots

of great family
Christmas movies.

- Merry Christmas!

- Every time a bell rings,
an angel gets his wings.

- [Narrator] But there's
one that stands out,

as the most about family.

It's also full of funny
and iconic scenes.

- You'll shoot your eye out kid.

Merry Christmas.

Ho Ho Ho.

- No!

(painful screaming)

- Fragile.

It must be Italian.

- [Narrator] "A Christmas Story"

was released in movie
theaters in 1983.

It did fine at the box
office and got good reviews

but it didn't become
an all time classic

until cable television
aired the movie

in a 24 hour marathon format.

Today, it's loved by everyone.

- That is the most precious
thing I've ever seen in my life.

(hearty laughter)

- [Narrator] And always
makes the top five

in every countdown or
list that comes out.

The story is told through the
eyes of a nine year old boy,

who is obsessed with what
he wants for Christmas.

- What would you
like for Christmas?

- I want an official
red rider carbine action

200 shot range model air rifle.

Ooh.

- [Narrator] There
are ups and downs

and in the end, not
everything works out.

This is a real family.

- What did you say?

- [Narrator] With
real consequences.

(quiet mumbling)

- All right.

Where did you hear that word?

- [Narrator] By
showing good times,

(playful laughter)

and bad.

- What are you gonna cry now?

- [Narrator] "A Christmas Story"

is the ultimate
celebration of family.

By keeping things real.

The drama and the
joy of the season.

It is perhaps the most
iconic holiday family movie

of all time.

a prestigious honor

to get this Family Film Award.

and we want to thank everybody

some of the hardest
days people go through.

The cast and crew
worked tirelessly

to deliver a final product

that keeps you on
the edge of your seat

or crying along
with the characters.

For this,

let's recognize this year's
Outstanding Drama Series.

And the nominees are.

- All of you will go where
no one has gone before

and you will make the
path by traveling it.

And from what I see,

I am honored to be

- I joined up when the
Empire stood for something.

By the time I realized
what they really were

it was,

Kenobi doing anything wrong.

it ain't like I'm best
friends with the dude.

And since when is it a crime

to change your mind
about somebody.

When you and I first met,

we didn't even like each
other, you remember that?

- Yeah.

- It's somehow I
remember it really well.

to work on a comedy show,
especially on a sitcom.

Up next, we have two
presenters who I'm sure

had tons of laughs while filming
their show, "Family Time".

Outstanding Comedy Series,

- Being in a comedic show
is mostly fun and games,

at least that's what
everyone thinks.

But it's not all funny business.

- Yeah, comedies can be
just as hard as dramas

if not harder.

Now, if you're doing
your job right,

half the time you have to
do your joke all over again

because you made the crew
laugh and it ruined the take.

But those are good
problems to have.

- And I'm sure the shows in
this category can relate.

For Outstanding Comedy
Series, the nominees are.

(dramatic music)

- How is this even okay?

They just rent these scooters
to anybody all over town

and then let them
dump them in my yard.

(beeping alarm)

Oh, okay so now I'm the bad guy.

(audience laughs)

Tina, little help here.

- Looks like you got it.

it at all these things.

When am I ever going to
use this as a lawyer?

- Jen, when you have
powers like this,

it's like putting a
target on your back

and the backs of all the
people you care about.

- It wasn't just me
who've made this show.

- Okay now,

it's time to honor a two-time
Emmy nominated series

with over 230 episodes
spanning over six seasons.

- Wow, this is truly an
American classic TV show

that not only took
the world by storm,

but it's still
running to this day.

- You know it!

Can you guess what it is?

- Give you a hint.

Here's a few of our
favorite moments

from this incredible series.

(upbeat music)

- [Narrator] 60 years ago,

the Cleaver family came
into our living rooms

in a situation comedy that
also carried a moral message.

"Leave it to Beaver".

- [Announcer] Starring,
Jerry Mathers as The Beaver.

- [Narrator] In
its first season,

the show saw ratings success

and was nominated
for two Emmy awards.

- What's your name?

- Theodore but my
friends call me Beaver.

- [Narrator] But critics
initially put the show down

as sanitized and unrealistic

for its portrayal of the
perfect nuclear family.

This was simply not true
for all of its six seasons,

"Leave it to Beaver",
had story after story

where Beaver and his brother
Wally, fell to temptation.

- What do you know
about this haircut?

- Well, I think it'll
grow back in a week.

- Every week, there
were consequences

and the boys were
guided back to virtue

by their loving parents.

- This is all for your own good.

- Sure dad, every
time you call us out.

It's for our own good.

- [Narrator] "Leave it
to Beaver" was a comedy,

but it was also a morality play.

Beaver and Wally had
delinquent friends

who were always trying
to lead them off the path

of what was right.

And the lead instigator
was Eddie Haskell.

- Gee Mrs. Cleaver, you even
look pretty in an apron.

(audience laughs)

- [Narrator] One famous
storyline found Beaver

climbing into a giant soup
bowl on a roadside billboard.

- Hey there's no soup
in there is there?

- No, just the hole where
the steam comes out.

- [Narrator] Turns out,

"Leave it to Beaver"
isn't sanitized at all.

It clearly defines
right from wrong

and shows the consequences
of bad choices.

Most importantly,
"Leave it to Beaver"

puts the emphasis on family

more than any show
before, or perhaps since

as a sanctuary from the
corruption of the world.

- "Leave it to Beaver"
is adored by millions,

including ourselves.

And we couldn't be happier to
welcome, "The Beaver" himself

to accept the Best
Iconic TV Series Award.

- As they say on TV,

and Jerry Mathers
as "The Beaver".

- Ah, thank you.

That's, that's very nice of you.

You know, I probably
had more fun doing

"Leave it to Beaver" than
any of you had, watching it.

It was a great family
show and a great family.

My family at home was wonderful,
but Barbara Billingsley

Hugh Beaumont, and Tony Dow
were my very best friends.

And I just want to
thank everybody that

either voted for me or
somehow got me this award.

The Entertainment Icon
Award is awarded to someone

who has accomplished almost
everything you can do

in the industry, from music
to film, TV, and stage.

- I mean, she never stops.

She is honestly one of
the hardest-working women

in show business, as
well as the nicest.

- Mmm-hmm. Well, you
know her, you love her.

So let's take a look at some
of the amazing achievements

of Marie Osmond.

- [Narrator] Marie Osmond has
spent over six iconic decades

in the entertainment business,

performing as a
successful singer, actor,

author, entrepreneur,
television performer,

and talk show host.

She's one of the most
instantly recognizable figures

across the globe.

Born into a musical family,

Marie Osmond began her show
business career at age three.

- This little girl is the
youngest Osmond brother.

- No, she's their sister Marie.

joined the Osmond Brothers,

they changed their performing
name to The Osmonds.

Her debut single, "Paper Roses,"

grandchildren,

and an incredible
husband who support me

in the things that I love to do,

It's a pleasure to be
with you all tonight,

though I must admit I
am a tiny bit nervous.

And not just because
I'm standing in front

of a crowd of so
many of my peers,

but because I'm
being presented with

the extremely difficult
task of boiling down

a multitude of achievements
of a momentous person,

someone who's made a
massive impact on my life,

and we don't have as much
time to do that as I'd like.

I am, of course, speaking
about the vivacious,

the fantastic Finola Hughes.

Anyone who's had the pleasure
of working with Miss Hughes

knows that she's a true
thespian through and through.

In fact, she's one of the
hardest working people

in the industry.

And I say that with
no bias attached.

The woman is a powerhouse
of talent and charisma.

She really is.

Finola began her
career as a dancer,

originating the role of Victoria

in the London Production of Cats

before making the
leap to Hollywood.

We first met in
1986 at a casting

for what I was told was

a big show

that ABC called
"General Hospital."

I flew out to California
to the studio,

and Finola was one of the
first people that I met there.

We did a screen test together,

and as you can imagine,

she was as scintillating,
and she was radiant

as she is today, and
she always has been.

I never would've guessed
that moment was the beginning

of a 36 year friendship full
of laughter and delight.

And there's something Finola
carries with her always.

Not only has she been stapled

in the wonderful
world of soap operas,

but for many years,

particularly in her
award-winning role

of Anna Devane,

but she brings a sense of
kindness and authenticity

to every role
she's ever tackled,

be it on screen

or behind the camera.

Recipients of this great honor

are highly respected
within their field,

and to say that of
this fantastic woman,

my good friend,

is the understatement
of the century.

Let's take a look at
some of her achievements.

- Then he must remove
himself from the case.

We are men and women in uniform,

and we have to look at ourselves

in the mirror every morning.

his ever-growing list

of achievements and awards,

from being placed on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame

with his very own star

to all of his Emmy nominations,

a Golden Globe nomination,

and a Tony Award.

- And the winner is

Joe Mantegna in
Glengarry Glen Ross.

- So ...

Before this man comes out,

I just had to read
the teleprompter

if
you couldn't tell,

so I'd like to do
something from my heart,

and that's the reason I'm here

is because this man,

he's special.

He really is special.

He has been like a father to me.

And I worked with him for
11 years on Criminal Minds.

He did 13 years
on Criminal Minds.

I always used to tell Joe ...

You know, you get to know
him, you get to talk to him,

and you forget that
he's a superstar.

When you talk to
him, you feel like

you're just talking
to a regular old guy,

just regular old Joe.

His character, his dignity
is bigger than any star

on the Walk of Fame.

He's a one of a kind
guy, and I always say

always imitated,
never duplicated.

And I always told him, I said,

"Joe, I want to be like
you when I grow up."

And he would always
respond to me and say,

"You're on your way, my son."

So please, without further ado,

please make a lot of noise.

I want to thank
Family Film Awards

for this incredible honor,

and to be presented by ...

I have two wonderful daughters,

but that's the son I
never had right there.

And I guess what I would
just like to say is this:

I've been in this business
for over 50 years,

and one thing, you know ...

I think we've all
been aware that

sometimes people in our business

and in sports and in music

they'll often say,

"Look, I'm not a role model.

Don't do what I do.

Just know that
this is what I do,

but I'm not a role model."

But you know what?

People in our profession

and other public professions,

we don't have a choice.

In other words,

the public decides who
the role models are,

so I think it's always
been just very important

that people who do have
a public profession,

whether it's show business,
whether it's sports,

whether it's music,
whether whatever it may be,

that they do the best they can

because they do have
an influence on people,

whether they like it or not.

So all I could say is

I will just try to continue
to do the best I can

to be that kind of a
role model for anybody

who takes the time and
the effort to perhaps

do the kind of work that
I have to do every day.
