All language subtitles for 7. Who killed the sale

So another example I'd like to talk about,

and this one was given to me by my dad quite early on

in my career is, "Who Killed the Sale?"

Right? So little known fact.

John Cleese had a very, very successful

corporate film production company

I think in the sort of '70s and maybe '80s.

And they did a very famous film

called "Who Killed the Sale?"

I think you can find it on YouTube.

And essentially, and I'm talking about the example

that was given to me and not the film now,

but essentially what happens is the Board of Directors

are preparing for the big meeting,

and the boardroom's all laid out

and they've all got their best suits on

and they've done all their prep and they're ready to go.

And the client pulls up in the car park

and they can't find a, there's no parking space for them.

Eventually they park out on the street

and march into the office.

And the person on reception is,

they've got their earphones in

or they're talking to somebody else

and they ignore this client for a period of time.

And then when the client does speak to them,

they're not very good with them and you get the picture.

Then the lift's not working and they go up the stairs.

And the point is that by the time the client

gets to the boardroom, the sale's gone.

The sale's being killed, right? By all the other things.

And those things are, in small business terms,

they're the fundamentals of running a small business.

And they're also the living manifestation

of your brand, right?

So when the phone doesn't get picked up,

when the email doesn't get replied to

or the reply isn't clear and doesn't really make sense

or when you get your scheduling wrong

and turn up on the wrong day

or miss the call or whatever it is, these are the things

that will undermine all your other hard work.

And they're not difficult to do, and everyone can do them.

You know, Greg has done them for decades on his own

well before he had people that helped him with them.

But if you're not prepared to make sure those things

are in place and sound, then you should be prepared

for the career not to work out.
