So, man, we are way out there.

I've only seen cornfields
for about 30 minutes.

- That's what Nebraska is known for.
- Yeah.

[Narrator] TAPS is headed to
the rural town of Crofton, Nebraska

to investigate
the historic Argo Hotel.

Oh, it was built in 1911
but I guess at that point

Crofton was a hustling
little area.

Absolutely. I know it was busy
for the railroad industry.

[Narrator] This nine-room bed and
breakfast has a history of scandal

and rumors of suspicious
medical practices.

In the '30s, this place was
transformed into a medical clinic.

They were doing medical
experiments.

I mean you got to wonder, you are in the
middle of nowhere who's watching over you.

Absolutely.

[Narrator] The Argo Hotel is
also renowned for its phenomena.

You wouldn't think
that a place

where there's only
800 people living

are going to spread the word of this
haunted hotel but it is known quite a bit.

[Jason] The current owners
Frank and Meagan Marsh,

they've been seeing multiple male
apparitions in various parts of the hotel.

Locals believe a woman they've named
Alice is still lingering on the property

and they're hearing the sounds
of a woman crying.

[Steve] Yeah.

There was a little girl that
saw an apparition of a woman,

like, right in front of her
just recently.

[Dave] Wow.

At one point, some of the owners
found a bag of bones in the wall.

[Jason]
It's all disturbing stuff

and the owners are getting
ready to sell the property

so they want us to come in and
try to figure out what's going on.

[Steve]
Or do they have to worry

that they're going to pass something
dangerous along to somebody.

And we're bringing in Satori,
my daughter,

and her fellow investigator
and boyfriend, Cody.

Yeah, they'll bring
a different dynamic to it,

you know, they have different
techniques.

[Jason]
Here we go!

[Narrator] TAPS Case: The
Argo Hotel; Crofton, Nebraska.

- Hey, Frank.
- Hey, man,

thank you very much
for having us out.

So, why don't you tell us a
little history of the Argo hotel?

Well, the hotel was built by
Nicholas Michael is in 1911

to serve the upper class railroad
passengers that would come to Crofton.

In 1933, they sold the hotel to a doctor
who turned it into the New Meridian Clinic.

All right.

[Meagan] For 27 years,
they ran it as a hospice.

So, people came here to pretty
much pass away that.

Yes. Um, they did
holistic approach.

[Jason] I also heard there
were experimental methods used.

There have been rumors.

[Narrator] Although,
official documentation

on the New Meridian Clinic
was destroyed years ago,

several locals believe that patients
may have been the unwitting victims

of dangerous experimental
treatment from their caretakers.

Desperate people,
trying desperate treatments.

There were a lot of deaths here I mean
that, you know, people didn't recover.

In 1960, the state of Nebraska
came and shut it down.

It was closed for
falsification of documents.

Okay.

[Narrator] The Meridian Clinic
shuttered and fell into disrepair.

Later, the property was bought by
a woman named Sandra McDonald

who began restoration to
return the hotel to its former glory.

In the process, she uncovered
something disturbing.

They had found evidence of
a woman who died here in childbirth.

The people from the town
named Alice.

During the renovation, Sandra did
open a wall up in the back bar area

where they found
a burlap bag full of bones.

We were told that
this was Alice's baby...

but the rumor was that they
were put into a cemetery.

That's the story...
I mean, there's nothing to...

We don't have
any documentation.

- Okay.
- All right.

I understand
you purchased it in 2017

but didn't quite know
it was supposedly haunted.

No, no, not at all.

When did you kind of start to
feel that maybe it was haunted?

Well, as soon as we started to move
in, we each had different experiences.

I was on the main floor and
out of the corner of my eye,

I saw a male apparition looking
out the window and it was gone.

I just happened to be
downstairs and I looked up,

and I could have swore, I saw
somebody sitting at the bar downstairs.

It kind of startled me
and I took a closer look,

investigated it,
and there's nothing there.

[Narrator] The employees have
experienced sounds of a woman crying...

doors slamming on their own
and full-bodied apparitions.

I was cleaning Room 8

and I saw a middle-aged man walk
past with a hat, and a black long coat.

He went into the bathroom.
I heard the door close.

Um, I was confused because no guests
should have been in the hotel at that time,

and when I looked inside,

there was nobody in the
bathroom and the lights were off.

[Narrator]
Frank and Meagan's guests

have experienced a female presence
in Room 1 on the second floor.

It was about three o'clock in the
morning and as I was laying in the bed,

I felt a feminine hand
rest on top of my hand

and the longer I laid there,
the stronger that feeling got.

[Narrator] Guests have witnessed
wine glasses falling on their own

in both the first floor
and basement bars,

the player piano
turning itself on...

and a childlike figure
that runs around the area.

When the kid, like,
ran past us, it felt cold,

like, the hairs on my, like, body
were just kind of standing up.

But it was weird because
there were no kids here.

Is there anything going on
that has you guys scared?

Since we decided to put
the place up for sale,

the activity has been
ramped up a bit.

Now, do you feel like
the activity is ramped up

because they don't want you
to sell the property?

That's the question.

What are you guys hoping that
we're able to accomplish here?

Help us prove that if there is a
presence here that it's a safe one.

Of course.

We've tried to make sure that
everybody feels like it's a second home

and we don't want
the spirits here to be upset.

to female apparitions seen,

a male apparition
somewhere in the building.

This place really seems like it has
everything as far as claims goes.

So, it's going to be great to
investigate the Argo Hotel tonight.

because I think some of it might
be old folklore that's really not true.

a very tight community

and they're extremely tight-lipped
on this building and its history,

so, it'll be interesting to try to
find out what's true and what's not,

and come to some real
conclusions for Frank and Meagan.

and this is where they've seen
the apparition sitting at the bar

and also a child-like figure.

So, this is where
he also claimed

he saw that guy sitting there
and turned around looked at him.

And Frank was actually
down here hanging insulation

and he said he heard
a little kid giggling.

I think if we set it up here, we'll be
able to get some of the kids possibly

but it'll definitely reach

where he sees
that apparition of that guy.

treated at the medical facility?

a report of a woman crying

and a male apparition
has been seen.

There's a lot of activity here that the
owners just want an explanation for.

They've actually heard the voice of
a little boy, maybe even a little girl.

We set up some equipment but it'll
allow us to wait to talk back and forth.

I don't know what it's picking

[Jason] You know, I'm not
sure what to make of that.

So, we had some good stuff
in the basement.

Tori and Cody had some
neat stuff upstairs.

We did get a name Betty.

A Don was looking for a Betty.

tracked down the only Betty

we could find who was
connected to the property.

- Yes.

...historical researcher with information
about the New Meridian Clinic.

What sort of clinic was
the New Meridian?

Um, it was a last resort
actually for a lot of people

that were seeking help in other
places and weren't finding it.

There were several doctors, not all of
them were licensed doctors at the time.

We've heard some rumors
about deaths

- that have happened...
- [Camille] Oh, yes!

- ...in the hotel and on the property.
- Mm-hmm.

There are stories of when people
would pass away in the clinic,

they would go, take them out
through the back,

because they didn't want
to scare the locals.

Would you have records
of anything?

Um, the only thing I was able to actually
find that was printed was an obituary.

"Crofton and vicinity were
shocked Monday morning

to learn of the sudden death
of Mrs. Gregg, 39,

who passed away
about at 10:30 a.m.

at the Meridian Bath House
in Crofton..."

- [Jason] Okay.
- "...where she had been

taken Wednesday of
last week for treatment."

- And what's her name?
- Helen.

Okay, Helen.

She was only there
for a short period of time.

She was only there

Do you think possibly she would
have prolonged her life not going there?

Possibly.

Is there anything known in terms
of the practices or mistreatment?

I did manage to find through
the Nebraska Historical Society

pieces of a journal from
a woman who stayed there.

- She talks about getting shock baths like ice baths.
- [Jason] Mm-hmm.

Here she says I got three
"electrical treatments,"

- [Inaudible] treatments.
- She was actually...

She lived

- to be able to tell the story.
- She did.

How many people didn't live to
be able to tell their story?

Exactly.

Now, we've heard a woman named
Alice supposedly died in the house.

- Yes.
- And she may be there.

Do you know of an Alice or...

I don't but that doesn't
mean she didn't exist.

So, the bones that they found,

Shortly after I started,

they were taking the wall down
between the dining room and that back bar.

We'd found in a burlap bag,
the baby bones.

Baby bones?

Well, we don't think
they were animal.

There was a baby that died,
you know.

- [Dave] Wow!
- [Camille] So, Jerry, her brother,

- took the bones out to the cemetery out here.
- [Dave] Wow!

Do you know of any deaths
on the property?

When it became a sanatorium, the
dance floor that you have down there now...

- Mm-hmm.
- ...there were umpteen drains.

And that's because of all the body
washing, and stuff that went on.

And possibly some of them were buried
in parts that were dirt still at that time.

So, do you believe that
there are bodies buried?

- There could be.

I mean, these are the stories
that I've heard.

...there were a couple investigators
that investigated last night...

and they came up
with a couple of names.

and he'd come in my office,
and lay down and sleep,

or he'd go downstairs and speak easy
and lay on the couch and take a quick nap.

And I did tell her the message and she got
very emotional, you know, that's my husband!

Camille gave us a lot of
information about what it was like

when it was a working clinic,
doing kind of experimental...

- [Jason] Yeah.
- ...practice.

And she told us about this woman
who was given shock therapies.

She said at a bare minimum that there
was at least 40 people who died here

that they were shipping bodies
out at night so people couldn't see.

[all exclaim]

Camille told us that there are no
records of anybody named Alice,

passing away on the property.

But there was a Helen Gregg who
died here when it was a medical facility.

[Jason] So, Dave and Shari, why
don't you start tonight in the basement?

And Steve and I will
take the top floor.

Cody and Tori, why don't you
guys investigate the bar area?

[Shari] So, this is where they've
seen the male apparition at the bar

and the piano plays
on its own.

I could think of are speakers

I mean, this is a bar,

actually just even inches.

a claim like this,

you already have something
that's ready to fall, it's going to fall.

[Steve] So, up here, were the
rooms for that Meridian Clinic.

[Jason] This is where people
would have stayed and died.

[Steve] Yep.

[Jason] On this floor employees
have claimed to hear a woman crying.

[Steve] Is there anybody

Maybe about the things that went
on here when this was a clinic?

So, Cody said that he was pushed
by something in Room 11 last night.

Should we see what
might be in there?

Yeah, I'm game with that.

[Steve] There's 11.

You know, you spent time
here when you were sick.

Did somebody try to push
our friend last night?

that people are seeing!

[Satori] This was once a medical
clinic and I believe this is the section

where they did a lot of those
procedures like electroshock therapy.

There are claims of a child.

[Cody] Okay.

Are you okay with us being
down here in your space?

- It feels different.
- It does feel different.

I heard a female voice.

- You heard a female voice?
- Yeah.

- Which direction?
- Right over on the end.

Did you hear that?

[Satori] Is that you?

If there's anybody down by the

So, the reports are that they've
seen a childlike figure here.

[Dave] But it just lies the question,
why would somebody put bones in a bag?

I don't know. I really don't.

I mean, I can't think of a good
reason but it's creepy as hell.

[Jason] So, we're just wrapping the
investigation here at the Argo Hotel

and we've had some
ups and downs.

I mean,
we've had some great nights

that activity seemed
like it was really kicking

and some quiet nights as well,
which isn't uncommon.

Frank and Meagan, they're
looking to sell the property

and they don't want
to sell the property

and have the next owners start
dealing with some sort of issues.

One thing that we did do throughout
the investigation is remind whoever's here,

if they sell the hotel, they're
going to sell it to somebody

who is going to continue
to preserve the history.

I think letting them know this is Frank
and Meagan's intent could go a long way.

Stories of the Argo have been
out there for a long period of time.

I always wanted to get up here
and check it out, as well Steve.

We did put a lot of sensor equipment in just
about every single room you could imagine.

Certainly everywhere you told us
that people were having experiences.

We did a lot of different techniques,
tried a lot of different things.

We seem to be getting direct
contact especially downstairs.

He will make sure it goes to
somebody who will preserve your history.

So, it definitely showed an
intelligence as it was hearing us,

it was doing
what we were asking.

We also did have some experiences
where we thought we heard voices.

Is anyone here who was
treated at the medical facility?

[thuds]

Did you hear that?

There's definitely
something there.

Unfortunately, it just didn't
translate well into the recorders

and we couldn't confirm
if it was paranormal or not.

So, at one point, Satori, my daughter
and Cody, who's a part of the TAPS team,

were upstairs investigating,

and they're doing a series of
trying to communicate back and forth.

[Satori]
Can you give me loud knocks?

One for yes, two for no.

They ended up making contact with who they
believed to be a gentleman by the name of Don

and he was looking for Betty.

He wanted Betty to know
that he was fine.

Well, now, this is all new information
to us. We knew nothing about this.

Now, do you know Betty who
lives across the street here?

- Yes.
- Yeah. We know Betty.

Team went over to talk to Betty to get
some historical information from here

and Betty brought up that
her husband Don had passed

but for whatever reason,
Don seemed to still be here.

Um, but then when talking to Betty, I guess
Don used to come over here all the time.

This was a big place
because Betty worked here.

Now, I don't know if you guys knew
anything about her husband Don.

- [Frank] We know the story.
- [Meagan] Yeah.

This is the first we've heard that
that he would frequent to place.

[Jason] Yeah. She told us he
used to come over and, you know,

and she was on a break and he'd
worked, you know, 16 hours a day

and this was pretty much the
time that they were able to spend.

I think Betty
will be happy though.

That's the level of
closure that...

- She was really happy.
- ...not many people get.

Well, you wanted us
to look into

what was going on with the bag
of bones found on the wall.

And we have some people
telling us its children bones

but we can't confirm
if they are, if they aren't.

Everybody's saying
they've been tested

but nobody has any proof to
show us that they've been tested.

We've heard they're just about
everything bones, haven't we?

- [Meagan] Yeah.
- Oh, yes, so you [inaudible].

- We've heard it, top to bottom.
- [Jason] Yeah, exactly.

And we also didn't get any
activity relating to the bones.

We brought up the fact that
you are concerned with people

who had once enjoyed
this property.

And when you sell, the property
you would keep that in mind

to make sure
that their life and legacy...

- Yeah.
- ...still continues,

and maybe they heard
that message.

I hope this helps you a bit at
least knowing that, you know,

what is here
feels more comfortable now.

Yeah, that's pretty good,
actually.

It's kind of a compliment
to know that, you know,

whatever spirits we do
have here feel comfortable

and that we've continued to
keep them content in that way.

The rumors and the stories that we've
gotten from others have been concerning

but when Jay and Steve came in
with their findings,

pretty much confirms
that this place is safe.

We feel it's good to pass
it on to some new buyers.

I'm glad to know that we brought
comfort to one of our neighbors as well.

That's true.

Satori and Cody's experience
is kind of wild

because there was no way
any of us

- had any of that information.
- Yeah.

But Frank and Meagan seem
to be happy with everything.

They feel safe and now I think,
they know whoever buys the property,

it'll be in good hands.

As long as they're happy
that's really all that matters.
