All language subtitles for 1. Why PostgreSQL

So you may be asking yourself, what tools are we going to use during the school course?

Well, it is pretty simple for the course, we will be focusing on the most popular relational database

software in the market, PostgreSQL, and we will be using an open source software that is cross platform

called Valentina DBE.

And it is a UI that is used to manage PostgreSQL.

And the reason we're using these two free tools is because they are extremely popular and you will also

see them in production environments.

People use them all over the world and they have proven track records.

Now, in terms of if you have a favorite software to use to use with PostgreSQL, I suggest you go ahead

and use that if you want.

But for the intents and purposes of this course, I will be doing the majority of the querying and tooling

with Valentina DB.

So if you want to follow along properly, download the software and learn the tips and tricks.

Now again to deeper dive into why PostgreSQL, it is widely, widely adopted.

You'll see it everywhere.

You'll see cloud service providers use it like us, Google, Microsoft, all of their clouds offer you

the ability to use PostgreSQL.

Now, we could have gone with Oracle, we could have gone with Microsoft.

And to an extent, those service offerings offer you different features.

But to keep it open source and to keep it light and easy, we wanted to give you the opportunity to

utilize a very highly respected and widely used tool, which is Posterous.

So now that we know all of that and now that we know why we're using it, let's get into the installation

in the setup.
