All language subtitles for Module 11

When you're shooting a movie? No.

Whether you're going to be expected
to send rough cuts to the director

and a lot of ways
that that's a really great thing to do.

You can edit and as you edit scenes,
you can upload them to the director.

The directors
sometimes want to see things.

It's helpful, especially on a big movie
where there's a lot of moving parts

and those cuts are for the director only.

They're not for other people to see.

They're not for producers to see.

They're not for the studio to see.

Traditionally in a Hollywood movie,
the studio and the producers

get to see the film dailies.

Not through, not through me.

But it's part of the process where either
the facility or the laboratory

that's processing the footage,

or sometimes my assistant editors
will post things in a way

where every key department head
and the producers in the studios

can actually see
all the footage every day,

and they can have their own opinions
about that.

Everyone needs to see that.

But in terms of rough cuts,
that's very different.

That right now is in this
part of the process is for the director.

Only if the director says,
I want you to send this, you know,

I want to upload this
so that Ryan Gosling can see this

or I want to show the producers, then,
of course, you can do it.

But that is the etiquette that is is

important to remember.

It's a very sensitive place to be in

because your collaboration,
your private, intimate collaboration

as a trusted collaborator
with this director has already begun.

If you want to lose the filmmaker's
trust early,

then send the cuts
and show them to everyone.

But you don't want to do that.

So it's it's important to remember that.

And and important not only that,
you remember that it's important

that your crew remembers
that you have to it's

normal and a standard thing,
but it can't be overstated.

So it's important to communicate
with your assistant editors

and your post-production assistants,
everyone.

It's important to remind them
that no one sees these cuts.

No one is allowed to see them without
my permission as an editor or without

without the director's permission.

And always, too, if someone calls
the editing room and says,

I need to see you,

we need to send a cut,
send a cut of this over

right away to the studio
or something like that.

The editor needs to be informed of that,
and they need to know because then

I can go to the director and say , Hey,
this person is asking for a cut.

Is that okay? Are you okay with that?

And and and they may say yes or no,

but it's important in terms of trust,
because that's what we're talking about.

This collaboration is
is is based on creative trust.

And so it's important
to know this as etiquette.
