Original subtitles

You'll notice when you start belting out your pivot table that subtitles and grand totals are automatically

added to your analysis.

So if I scroll all the way down to the bottom notice, I have a grand total down here.

So I'm seeing the grand total of the profits and the gross sales.

And what you'll also notice is that when I have my data laid out in this way, so country and then product,

I'm seeing the sum total of the profit and the sum total of the gross sales at the top here.

Now you do have a little bit of control over these subtitles and grand totals.

For example, maybe you're not particularly interested in seeing them at all.

Well, we can turn them off.

Maybe we only want to see grand totals for the rows and not for the columns.

Now, the way that I have my data laid out, I don't get grand totals in the columns over here.

However, if I was to move product back to the columns area, you'll notice that if I scroll across,

I then get grand totals at the end here.

So you won't necessarily always see grand totals for the rows and the columns.

Now, if you want to make any changes to the way these subtitles a grand totals are displaying, you

need to go up to the pivot table design ribbon and in the layout group.

Just here, we have subtitles and grand totals.

So if we start with subtitles, I can choose to not show them at all, which is just going to remove

them.

I can choose to show them at the bottom of the group or at the top of the group.

So by default, your subtitles will be shown at the top of the group.

Now I know that when I'm looking at data, when I'm reading down lists of numbers, I prefer to have

my subtitles at the bottom.

So if we click subtitles and show them at the bottom of the group, I now have those down here.

It's just how my eye has always read subtitles.

But of course, that is personal preference.

And if I decide that I no longer want to display this grand total at the bottom, I have a grand total

drop down just here.

I can turn grand totals off the rows and columns on four rows and columns on four rows only on four

columns only.

So I'm going to turn mine off.

Let's select off four rows and columns, and that grand total has disappeared from the bottom.

So that is pretty much it.

With regards to subtitles and grand totals, really quick and easy.

Before we leave this lesson, I'm just going to rename some of these labels because these aren't set

in stone.

You can rename these to make them a little bit more meaningful.

For example, where we have row labels, if I double click, I can simply over type and change this

to country product, and maybe I want to change some of profit and some of gross sales too.

Let's double click.

Total profits.

Double click again.

Total

gross sales.

So don't be afraid to rename these if you're not particularly keen on the headings that have been assigned.
