All language subtitles for 10. Applying PivotTable Styles

In the final lesson of this section, I just want to show you the different pivot tables styles that

you can apply now, if you go up to the Design tab, you'll notice that we have a big group called Pivot

Table Styles.

And if we click the dropdown, this is an entire gallery divided down into light, medium and dark themes

effectively.

Now I can hover over any of these and get a live preview as to what that's going to look like on my

pivot table.

And if I want to apply any of these, it's simply a case of clicking to select.

Now, once you have selected a pivot table style, you can then modify the pivot table style options.

So notice here we have row headers, column headers, banded rows and banded columns.

So if I d select row headers, you can see what that does.

It's removing the bold formatting off all of those different headings.

If I do select column headers, it's removing the formatting off of all of the main headings in the

pivot table.

I could choose banded rows, which is going to give me a different way of looking at this table.

And sometimes banded rows is particularly useful because it really does help with the readability,

particularly if you have a lot of columns of data.

And we also have a banded columns option as well.

And for me, in the table style that I've picked, that doesn't really do a great deal.

It adds a very faint border.

I will say that for some of these pivot table styles, banded columns will kind of look similar to banded

rows.

Now, if you're wondering where the color scheme comes from for all of these different pivot table styles,

this is very much based on the theme that you're using in Excel.

So if I go to the Page Layout tab and click the themes dropdown, I'm using the office theme.

And this really controls not only things like the colors that I see in the font color palette, it controls

the styles that I see in the Pivot Styles dropdown as well.

If I was to change my themes, if I go to themes, let's just change it to I on boardroom.

Take a look at that.

And if we go back to design and click the drop down notice that all of those pivot table styles have

updated as well.

So bear that in mind.

If you want a different color palette, you can simply switch the theme.

However, if you would like to go a stage further and maybe create your own pivot style theme, you

can do that as well.

So right to the bottom here we have new pivot table style, and this lets you go in and customize every

single element of the table.

So I'm going to do a very basic pivot table style just to show you the potential of this.

So I'm going to call this my initials, custom pivot table style.

I can now select what table element I want to apply formatting to, so I'm going to say whole table.

First of all, let's go to format.

And maybe I want borders around everything in my table.

And let's change the color to.

I'm going to go to more colors.

I'm going to choose a blue kind of a color.

Select Outline and inside and click on OK.

So now I can see in the preview what that's going to look like when I apply it to my pivot table.

I can choose what color I want for the filter report labels.

So let's just quickly go back.

Let's say fill.

I'm going to choose a blue color again.

Just click on OK, so I can carry on going through defining each of these different elements and how

I want them to look.

Now, one thing I'm also going to do for the whole table is, let's say we have no color in the background.

That's right.

Now if I click on OK, what you'll notice is that when you click the Pivot Styles dropdown again, you

have your custom style at the top here.

So if I hover over, you can see what that is going to look like.

It's basically what I've set.

So just a blue outline and then no fill in the background.

If I want to maybe modify there so I can right click and go to modify.

And let's say that I want the header row.

Let's format that I'm going to have that a slightly lighter blue color.

Click on OK, OK, again.

And now when I hover over that style, you can see how that change affects it.

So if maybe you work at a company which is very strict on its branding and you have to have specific

colors in your pivot table, you can create your own custom branded styles.
