When you're auditioning,
and I find this very hard to believe,

you were really opposite of what
the producers were looking for.

How did you change their minds?

You're literally the opposite
of what they were looking for.

Yeah, I don't know.
I'm really not joking. I don't know.

They were looking for willowy and...
I'm now blonde, but I wasn't then.

And tall - not tall.

Many other attributes
that are just not me.

So I don't really know is the answer.

Do you think that maybe the fact that
you probably thought,

"I'm not what they're looking for"
relaxed you a bit in the audition?

No, I didn't know
I wasn't what they were looking for.

I kind of went for the audition...

This was a huge audition for someone
who was a year out of drama school.

And... Yeah, called in sick to my job
and went hell for leather on Wikipedia

to figure out
what Game of Thrones was.

And then I turned up
into the audition.

But it was only later on that I went,
"Oh, I'm nothing like the character."

- Not what they wanted.
- Good!

Your character has grown... We've been
talking about this is the theme,

the journey these
different characters take.

It's a remarkable part of the show.

Did you know that your character
was gonna take that kind of journey?

No. No.
I genuinely didn't know.

The audition,
the two scenes that I had,

one of the earlier scenes,
and then one of the later scenes.

So I had an idea that she
got some power

throughout the first season.
And it was only when

after the first audition I went back
and read the book

cover to cover for like three times...

'Cause I had no other job.
Nothing else to do.

So... It was then that I realised the
intensity of Daenerys as a character.

And I realised where she...
the possibilities.

And the truth is she always has
that will. She just has to find it.

It's a great character for women.

Just to see she's kicking ass
and she might be the most...

In this very male-dominated world,
she's the most powerful person.

No part of the enormity of the show
has ever quite landed, I feel,

personally,
'cause you're too close to it.

It's very much a job and you just
wanna do it as well as you can.

And it's only in the other jobs that
you do that you realise more and more

how lucky we are.

The calibre of the writing, of every
single person who makes up this show,

and I get emotional,

is just the highest calibre of person
and of talent, and of skill.

And to be a part of that
just keeps getting better and better.

Nathalie, you had this
interesting experience

where you were a Game of Thrones fan.
Huge fan!

And then you were brought on to the
show. So what's that experience like?

There's a lot of people here who
came on to this project

and it was just beginning.

You had the feeling of...
You're a GOT fan.

If anyone was like, "You wanna go for
dinner for my birthday on Monday?",

I was like, "Sorry, no. Game
of Thrones is on. I can't be there."

I was a huge fan and it was...

It was nerve-wracking
coming for the audition.

I remember I'd been phoning
my agent a lot saying,

"See, there's a show. If there's ever
anything that I'm right for..."

And she was like,
"What's Game of Thrones?"

She wasn't following it at the time.

And then I heard about the breakdown
for Missandei

and I was like, "That's me."
And so...

Why is Missandei you?

I think the breakdown said,
"actress, 18 to 25, non-white."

So...

- So much more than that!
- They've got no other choice.

I was like, "Wait, that's me!
I can do that."

"I'm doing that already."

But also,
a big part of your character,

is you are the khaleesi
number one fan.

When you think about it, you were in
real life, too, as a fan of the show.

I was such a fan of you, babe.
Seriously. No, I really was.

But I phoned my agent and I said,

"Have you seen it?" "I've seen it,
you got an audition next week."

I was like, "Great."
And then I went into the audition,

and didn't hear anything
for five weeks. Five weeks!

By the way, thanks for that. It was
a long time to not hear anything.

And then I got a phone call,
and I was like, "Oh, my God."

And then the anxiety set in.
"I might ruin my favourite show."

"I need to do really well at this."
And I got really nervous.

Then I remember my first read-through
in Belfast

and like all of these guys
started filing in, and I was like,

"Oh, my God."

In a corner...
I was so terrified. And then...

I think we were sat together.

Then Emilia was like, "Hey!"
And I was like, "Hi!"

And then we were just friends and
she was lovely, everyone was lovely.

- It's been really great.
- It's been great.

Iain, Ser Jorah is hopelessly in love
with the khaleesi and...

Are you aware that the internet
has dubbed you "Ser Friendzone"?

- Yeah.
- Did you know what that meant?

No, honestly, and I still don't.
Is that a good thing?

That's why you were in the friendzone.

I could tell you a lot
about the friendzone.

I've spent many decades
in the friendzone.

- Is it kinda pathetic?
- It's pathetic.

It's sweet. Your devotion
to the khaleesi is very sweet.

It's great, but at the same time,

there's a lot of men here
that can relate just being

trapped forever in the friendzone.

Did you draw on any
personal experience?

No, I got the girl every time.

It was a big stretch.

I think that with Ser Jorah,

he is a romantic
and he made his...

I always adored Emilia,
from day one. She is the most

most lovely person
and she's a fantastic actress,

and her great gift is that
she has no idea how good she is.

She's completely clueless about it.
And will probably remain that way.

I remember my first day was with you
on horseback, in the rain.

And as I've made clear,
still am everyday petrified.

Then was like petrified on crack.
It was insane.

And I'm on a horse
which I've just learned to ride. Just!

And Ian's there and I'm looking to him
clearly, with sheer terror in my eyes.

"There's a camera!"

I'm on a horse and it's raining,
and what do I do?

And Iain...
You were was so amazing.

He was calming the horse down
and calming me down.

And calming the horse down,
and calming me down.

I knew, from then on,
I'd be genuinely, I as an actor

would be safe every single day
that I was working with you.

Jacob, you told me the story once
before, but I want to hear it again,

especially with everybody here.

The first time that
you got recognised,

for your part in Game of Thrones.
'Cause it's sweet.

You're playing this part.

I think at the time you were trying
to be sort of under the radar in NY.

I'd kinda of... I'd never expected
anybody to know who I am.

This was season 4,
just after season 3...

And I was in the subway in New York,
I'm just minding my own business.

And I just hear:
"Fuck yeah, Grey Worm!"

"Did I hear?"
And I looked up

and there's just this one guy who
had like his newspaper upside down.

There was just something about him.

But I just wanna say quickly that
a bad thing happened the other day.

I went to a gig with my girlfriend
and some of my friends.

We were walking out,
there's like a filling out gig...

Everyone's pushing you forward...

A group of lads looking at each other,
looking at me,

started walking forward.

And I just hear:
"Where's your dick?"

"Where's your dick?"
And it got louder and louder.

I was like, "Okay."

It's very nice to see you
laughing and smiling.

You're always so stoic,
and you're so strong.

And you're always standing.

I don't think I've ever seen
your character sit.

Am I right about that? I didn't know
you could bend in the middle.

Because I can't,
because of the costume...

I think, early on,
we both stood a lot.

I remember when Missandei
started getting chairs. I was like...

Why does she get to sit down?

It is stunning.

I have respect mad for everyone here
who has to act with green screen.

I've never had to do that.
I can't imagine what it's like

to be the mother of dragons.
And we see the result.

But you're with a green piece of foam
on a stick.

You're emoting your brains out.

You're really creating...
instilling this thing with life.

The first time that I flew
on the dragon

we were in Spain and it was like,
"Oh, my goodness, it's gonna happen."

There had been major milestones
with the dragons

and that was obviously
the biggest one.

I remember getting just so excited,

and we were there, in Osuna,
and it was beautiful.

Get on the back of this green thing.

And like in an old railroad,
they had those things that people...

- Push car, yes.
- Yeah.

Because it was back then,
we were kind of figuring it out,

I was on this thing,
with someone at the end

just sweating profusely
cause it was very hot, going...

And then there was someone,
with like a hoover type thing

whoo in my face.

And you're like...

"Yeah, this is like the most
badass moment of my entire life".

Cause, you're like...
being spun around.

So, occasionally, when that happens,
just, like, go with it.

- Just go with it?
- Just go with it.

And then when they put it all together
later on...

And then... Now I'm on this insane
mechanical bucking bronco

that is truly frightening.
So, yeah...

- So, the fear is real now?
- The fear is real now, in a good way.

You weren't just the Dragon House,

you were also the house
of a million languages as actors.

That's gotta be incredibly tough.

Let's take a look at what is like
learning Dothraki.

You're speaking this made up language.

You've got to walk and talk,
ride a horse with one hand,

fight somebody, punch somebody
at a certain point

and speak a language
that is completely new to you

and completely alien.

It's a challenge.

When you get it right it's amazing.
When you don't, it's frustrating.

It's a nightmare.

When you come across it in the script
and it says: "I'm speaking Dothraki"

you just... No, please!
Please, no!

Emilia listens to it rhythmically...
We'll clap it.

I make it into... like a song.

Sometimes we beatbox it.

We like...

I'll be beatboxing and she'll be
singing along like...

like a rude girl.

If you got like the right rhythm,
then it stays in your mind

and you remember the rhythm.

I'm told that you were legendarily fun
on the set.

I was so excited to be there

and it was really hard to get the job.

on set like?

We had some scenes
to get to do together

that were awkward for people...
my family watching it.

And there was one time where
the camera got to see your bum,

I got to see a really pink fluffy sock

which was on the other side of him.

I just remember David and Dan going
like: "Why is she laughing?"

And I'm like: "Fuck you,
I'm the one that's naked in here!"

We need to do this.

The scene kept being pushed back
to like the last scene of December.

It's freezing cold, you know?
I'm friggin' naked.

"It's not that cold,
you motherfucker".

But there I am, and, just, you know...
I like to giggle.

But it sounds like you had a...
pretty good...

What was your first meeting like?
When you two met.

- Rugby-tackled me to the ground.

I thought Drogo is going to go down
fighting in an epic battle,

and then I think you got bronchitis.

I think you character got
like a hangnail infection and died.

I didn't see that coming.
Were you at all bummed out by that?

It wasn't you versus
900 armed assassins.

I was, but at the same time
I thought it was brilliant

that he went out... You know...

It is a great curve ball.

He trusts his wife and then it happens
and then she brings him back,

but he dies by a fucking pillow.

pretty big twists for his storyline.

He read there and then, with everyone.
And he even cried.

I did, yeah.
The really emotional thing was...

We had a table read most years,
I think.

And it was... end of episode one...
Sorry, Season One...

End of Season Two... And this just
said "End of Game of Thrones".

And it was just... you know.
Kind of... that was a thing...

I cried many times that season.
Seeing people wrap.

But that was the first time you went
"Fuck, yeah, it's kind of finishing."

- And then we had a year of filming.
- Yeah.

The New Yorker, everybody!

You had an emotional, cathartic
moment, and then

you have to spend the year working
to make that a reality.

But it keeps coming back!

The emotions keep coming back
in different scenes,

when people wrap, I feel like
everyone in the cast

has had a moment on set,
before we finished, thinking...

"This amazing moment, this incredible
thing that we get to do..."

- "This is the last time."
- Yeah.

Then we said good-bye to sets,
we said good-bye to people.

You say good-bye to sets?

I say good-bye to them.
"Good-bye, set!"

"Bye-bye, now!"
You know what I mean?

No, he's a heartless Dane.
They don't know anything.

At that table read, Bryan Cogman,
he's one of the writers...

He's also the guy who narrates
the story.

The most incredible narrator.

He's amazing. He does it very quickly.

He does all of the stage directions.
Beautifully.

What was beautiful was that
he knew what was coming.

So there's this moment
before one of the episodes...

And then he's doing... I'm sitting
next to him and I'm looking

and tears are just falling down
from his eyes.

Lena, we've seen you nodding

and feel that this has been
an emotional time?

It's a weird one, because, as you say,
we sort of did the read through

and you're like: "Fuck, this is
the end of eight years of your life".

As an actor, I would never have
expected to be part of something

where every single person cares
so deeply about doing the best job.

And it's amazing to work
in that environment.

It's a real honour and yeah, it's...
as it gradually coming to an end,

like you said, sets
keep disappearing, you are like...

"Fuck, we'll never gonna
get the chance to be

in something that massive
and beautiful ever again."

And I'm sort of in this scene
with these guys, and...

And it sort of all depended
on how quickly I walked.

How long they would be lit on fire...

So if I "acted" and I took
a dramatic pause...

Now, there's a guy lit on fire.
You can't really do that.

And I just had this moment of...
"This is real..."

"This is never gonna happen again.
Ever. In my life."

I knew it in that moment.
It really won't.

It might happen again, but
it won't be written by Dave and Dan.

It won't be all these elements
coming together

to create this thing that's...

This huge scene,
but it's kind of through my eyes.

My character's eyes.

And that's the story-telling
that's so beautiful.

Because no matter, like you said
before, no matter all the dragons...

It's not about the fucking dragons.
It's about everybody in this room.

We've all worked together
for so long now.

And I really feel
like a family this year.

Incredible.
We're all so simpatico, and...

- I'm gonna fucking miss it.
- Yeah...

You have a heart.

We have one more film
for you tonight.

It's a good-bye to the world
you all occupied for a decade.

I've been thinking about it
for a few years.

And here we are...
and everything is wrapping up.

There's this bitter-sweet thing where
we really don't want this to end.

This is such a huge part
of all of our lives...

You don't get many of these.

If any.

Leaving this show
is leaving a part of me.

It's made me who I am.

It's gonna be very strange
without it. It's been eight years.

I'll miss it.

I truly believe on this show
that starts just aligned

and it just made magic.

A lot of fantasy is heavy on the
dragon and light on the character.

Those dragons are huge
and they breathe some pretty fire,

but it's not their show.

It's our show.

It's so rare that you get
to experience a success like this...

It just eats into you.

I always had it there.
I've always expected the up ahead.

It's much more than a job,
it is our way of life.

I had more spine-tingly, goose-bumps,
punch the air "yeey days"

on this show
than in anything in my life.

What a gift!

Don't call it a TV show? It's not!

It's an extraordinary achievement
in technical terms.

Writing terms. Visual terms.

The bar has been raised.

You'll be sad that it's over,
but that the journey is complete.

We started our careers together.

I think that the friendships that
you form when you are a bit scared

they're the ones that tend to stick

because you cling onto each other
for support.

The crew, the directors,
the producers, the cast...

I don't know how we could
have gotten on better.

It'd be sickly if we had.

It's a cliché to say it's family.

But it is. And we all want
the same goal,

which is to put
the best stuff we can onscreen.

Final words...

Not only a big "thank you"
to our crew,

but I think a big "thank you"
to our family.

Whose support, every single one
of us, every single day...

We've taken everybody away
from their families

and they missed a lot
in order to make this happen.

we want to make a toast.

We often say that making
a television show

is like playing a team sport.

But writing novels
is a solitary endeavour.

And this great epic began
in the beautiful, deranged,

magnificent mind
of George R.R. Martin.

Without George there are
no Targaryens, no Starks,

no Lannisters...

Without George we would have
never met Khal Drogo

or visited King's Landing.

So the first and last thank you
always has to go to the man

who imagined it.
George, thank you.

12 years ago, when I had no grey
in my beard and no children

I went to pitch, with Dan, to HBO,
to pitch George's books

and the lady we sat down with,
Carolyn Strauss,

was notorious
as the toughest pitch in town.

And somehow she decided
that two schmucks

with no television credits and
no producing credits deserve a spot

in the home of "The Sopranos",
"The Wire" and "Deadwood".

Thank you to Carolyn Strauss.

And then we went off
to make a pilot.

The result was bad.

We knew it was bad when we showed
the pilot to some of our friends

and they said "Guys, this is bad."

So we also knew there was
a really good chance

that HBO was not gonna
pick up the show.

We got a phone call
saying that Richard Plepler

is flying to L.A.,
he's going to watch the pilot

in the screening room at HBO
headquarters in Santa Monica

and he would decide whether
or not we're gonna move forward.

But Richard said "yes".

And in doing so he didn't just
gamble on the two of us,

he gambled on everyone
in this room.

He changed all of our lives forever

and for that we raise this glass
to you. Thank you, Richard.

And here we all are, ten years
later, finishing something

that none of us could have imagined
when we started.

Something that has exceeded
all our wildest hopes

and our hopes were pretty wild.

And the people in this room right
here and now, are the reason for it.

These things on the stage,

all these things and all the ones
who aren't here.

The people who took a bunch of words
and turned them into real people.

Living, breathing, wonderful,
horrible, complicated,

tortured people
with amazing hair.

Some have claimed
the most famous hair in the world.

Me.

Others would dispute this claim.
It's not for me to judge.

Doesn't matter.
You all made this show what it is.

And the people filling this room,
the crew,

every set wall you went half blind
carving and painting

made this show what it is.

Every invisible wig-line,
every sword swing,

every horse jump,
every crane shot,

every explosion, every dragon scale,
every crate of heavy equipment

dragged onto a glacier at four in
the morning made this show what it is.

Every beautiful costume you spent
hours lovingly beading to shit

and covering in mud so you can put it
on one of 500 extras

at 3:30 in the morning...
made this show what it is.

You all put so much of yourselves
into this,

words cannot do justice
to the gratitude we feel towards you

or to the joy that's been
to work with you all

and call you all our friends.

We'll all meet again,
on other shows, on other films,

at dinner, at fan conventions
30 years from now.

We'll be the old men in the matching
princess Leia's bikinis.

For now, we can only say
