Had it been raining all evening?

Since about 7:00.

Ah, this chain of events is certainly
of extraordinary interest.

to see if the intruder
had left any traces

muddy foot marks, any cigar end,
or dropped glove, hairpin?

the Commissioner's wife had-

horror of my situation came upon me.
