Do you know my mother's nickname?

It's the Iron Butterfly.

I can't let the enemy leave when he walked in on his own.

Butterfly

If you hear that I died,

know that I made my decision.

Aren't you going to say hello?

You...

Seo In Ae did nothing wrong. Let her go.

If you look into a person's eyes,

you can see their soul.

That girl will not hesitate to sacrifice herself for her goal.

You're right.

The Prime Minister's son and I...

might have disappeared forever today...

if we had been in love.

I have the feeling we'll fall in love so deeply we might disappear.

I heard you're a former juvenile delinquent.

Life's tragedies create juvenile delinquents.

Just because you can speak,

and say you were sent to juvenile hall while you were innocent

doesn't absolve your sin.

Do you know what the most frightening sin is?

The sin of...

...ignoring your sins.

Tae Kyung...

She approached you on purpose.

You're right.

See?

She's more frightening than I thought.

No, I'm the one who approached her.

Tell her it was fate, Kim Tae Kyung.

Kim Tae Kyung?

Seo In Ae, don't approach my son anymore.

I won't forgive you.

It might be difficult, but forgive me.

I...

have a feeling that we'll risk our lives...

...for love.

In Ae.

So fearless.

How afraid should I be?

Will I...

die by the Iron Butterfly's hand?

Take Tae Kyung away.

What are you doing?

Let go.

Let me go.

Please stop it!

My son is going to the US.

He has no reason to see you again.

I doubt it.

Then one of you...

...has to disappear.

A mother wouldn't kill her son.

Do you understand now?

I want to tell you something.

They say...

love is stronger than death.

Where are we going?

To the airport.

No.

I want to see Father. Take me home.

Hurry!

Kim Tae Kyung.

Kim Tae Kyung!

Seo In Ae! Let me go.

Your mother is not normal.

Please cut your ties with her!

I'll wait for you.

In Ae, In Ae!

Stay still!

Let go of me!

Is the Kingmaker in the US...

preparing for the next era?

He is indeed a Kingmaker.

But this is God's will.

You...

disappear and return like fog.

You and General Chun...

Kingmaker - A figure who greatly influences selection of the next political leader.

...are both immature.

To physically bring such an important document.

Things like this...

...should be memorized.

I memorized the important details.

In your head?

Yes.

Along with the United States,

the Republic of Korea proposes...

Let go of me!

You've ruined my life, jerk!

I can't watch you ruin your life any longer.

I'm the only one who can save you and your family!

Go away!

Disappear from my life!

I'll kill you if you don't go away!

Go away!

Cut! Okay! Stop right there!

Good job, Seo In Ae. That was great.

We got the scene.

How's your hand?

It's okay.

Oh, no.

Coordinator! Coordinator!

Why does she have to be a girl like that?

It's strange and I'm afraid.

I'm full of dread.

Dread?

What's going on with the Iron Butterfly?

It's strange.

I felt this way ever since I first set eyes on her.

Do you remember?

Control, power...

success or honor...

...lineage or family.

The Prime Minister was ready to throw it all away...

all because of his foolish love affair.

Tae Kyung is acting just like him.

You can't let yourself get weak.

You'll be ruined if you become fragmented.

Just like political fragmentation leads to ruin.

Become...

...colder.

You have a long way to go.

Director Park, you never tire.

I'm not the type who can get tired.

A tireless...

...human.

Alright.

You wanted to show me something?

This person...

Isn't he the Kingmaker?

The problem is the person he's meeting.

Who is it?

General Chun's underling.

What?

Can I be honest?

Yeah.

When I heard US say a civilian in power cannot control the public outcry,

I thought my heart would stop.

Tell that to General Chun.

General Chun is amazing.

He has a great person under his wing.

No, I'm not.

I'm just a tool being used by the military.

Who knows?

That small tool may grow

to take responsibility for the future of Korea.

Will you...

pave the road for me?

I wish to study under you.

They compliment me by calling me the Kingmaker.

But I'm just an old man with nothing to teach.

There's someone watching us.

Information moves fast in Korea.

Who could it be?

The people who ordered the surveillance?

What are you doing?

Why are you here?

I came to deliver the classified document.

You promised to stay in Boston!

Father gave me special orders.

He wanted me to meet the highly symbolic Big Bear.

That gun...

How long are you going to point it at me?

Did you practice shooting diligently?

With those hands,

I think I could die.

I don't think I'd regret it if I died.

You like to raise people up, Chairman.

More than anyone,

you raised me to become the President of the bank.

Raised you?

You're the one who is capable.

Anyway, he is a person I trust.

I'm entrusting him with my work in Korea.

Very well, Chairman.

Make sure he doesn't run into any trouble in getting a loan.

I'll keep that in mind.

Corporations, banks and political power.

You telling me about the importance of the three points of the black triangle.

I always keep your words in mind.

I ask you...

to take good care of me, Chairman.

You have to work thirty years at a bank to become the President.

You also need the right background and political power.

To make up the black triangle.

What?

Does it look easy?

No.

All work is like that.

It's hit-or-miss even with thirty years of dedication.

An idiot would never achieve it even after three hundred years.

You spoke to the bank President on behalf of an idiot like me.

I was nearly moved to tears.

Hey, you.

Can an idiot be moved to tears?

Chairman.

I want to serve you without any reward.

I'm serious.

I'm just assigning you errands here and there.

Treat Se Kyung to a good meal.

What?

I heard you promised.

I'm buying because I said I would.

But can you eat this?

It's lamb.

It must be better than cat soup.

Try it first.

Yummy...

Let's watch a movie, too.

What?

You can't leave out a movie on a date.

What do you mean, date?

Then let's do what you like.

Eat slowly.

Carry it with you.

Jeez... no need for this.

It looks like you paid special attention to your hair today, right-hand.

Are you trying to look nice for me?

Are you talking or farting?

I don't go around wanting to look nice for someone.

Why not?

Did you get dumped?

You little...

Have you ever been in love?

Love?

- Hey... - Have you heard of Seo In Ae?

That actress who used to be a juvenile delinquent?

I know her.

- She's the star of the Korean Tess movie. - Right.

What about her?

Did you hear the rumors?

Her personality sucks as you'd expect from a juvenile delinquent.

She does whatever she wants to do while filming.

Really?

She's pretty though.

That's why they say she's a player.

She has a lot of men, too.

Really?

I heard she flirts with the Director, too. She has no class.

Wow, Seo In Ae.

I thought...

you were only good at playing Tess. But what a gorgeous look.

Thank you.

Coordinator, what's next?

What is...

...the next step?

This one since we just finished that one.

Swoop down the mountain road.

Step lightly in the early morning spring air.

Action!

It's so hot.

It's refreshing!

Cut!

Good!

How was it?

About earlier...

Unload my stuff.

It looks like I'm giving you these.

I guess so.

I'm afraid someone will see.

Thanks for playing with an ugly girl.

Take care, ugly girl.

What's going on with you?

You scared me.

Who's the guy who gave you these flowers?

Uncle's driver.

Driver?

I mean...

His assistant.

Didn't you go for a physical?

I met Uncle afterward and his assistant drove me home.

Chairman Son sure has nothing to do.

It should be enough that he got what he wanted.

Why does he keep calling you?

The guards will hear you.

Please, please handle yourselves with care!

Think about our family dignity.

How could he be with a former juvenile delinquent?

That crazy bastard.

What?

Did oppa...

It was so close to becoming a scandal.

He knows what path his father is on. He's acting insane.

You be careful, too.

Riding in anyone's car and taking flowers from a man in public...

Uncle bought me flowers

because my physical came out normal.

Uncle?

I don't want to hear you call him that.

Hello.

I just got home.

What is it?

What?

Are you sure?

Positive?

General Chun...

...is fearless.

It's a matter of life and death.

How could he use that kid?

You've come.

Let me hear it...

...once more.

When this guy...

threw his life away that day,

did you say it was the Tuko battle?

That's right.

The Tuko battle in the Vietnam War...

the troops led by Captain Lee...

overthrew two separate enemy battalions.

What was the result?

187 were killed.

His fault was having more courage than others.

His fellow officer threw a grenade by mistake.

Why?

Why would he throw himself in sacrifice?

All my life,

do you know what I hate hearing most?

"He was a martyr for the cause."

"He was a hero."

What use are things like that?

The survivors...

enter the Blue House and become important figures.

General, I hope...

you don't ever leave the military.

Are you uncomfortable in any way day-to-day?

Don't worry about things like that anymore.

I...

don't have long until I join him.

I'm confessing it now.

But you...

have been...

better to me than my own son.

I remember.

In the Vietnam War,

it was reported that the war could not proceed because of the military academy graduates.

The President was furious that...

the military mindset was so weak.

How could Korea ever have a strong military?

Whether the military academy officers were really cowards,

I went...

undercover to gather intelligence...

...in Qui Nhon.

General Chun, you...

led me to General Choi.

That's right.

Back then,

I remember being moved by the General Choi's words.

He didn't want to sacrifice your officers in vain.

He acted with care and discretion.

The middle command...

called it frustrating and cowardly.

Like he said, everywhere the military academy officers went,

they were waging war carefully.

Back then,

the battle that occurred...

was it the Tuko battle?

Yes.

My analysis revealed...

the military academy officers were insulted by someone high in power.

But they begged me...

earnestly not to tell the President...

about you, General Chun.

On the battlefield,

everyone is a comrade.

That person...

is the Presidential Chief of Staff today.

The President must know what he's capable of.

Yet he assigned him in the closest position.

I'm sure there's a deeper meaning.

Let it go.

During the Vietnam War,

you gave up the medal of honor to him.

The medal is awarded to those with many successes in battle.

But the ones who truly deserved it refused.

He, who was the top strategist at the time,

sent us to the most advantageous battles.

Well...

It's all in the past now.

It's in the past but it has become a legend of the Vietnam War.

However...

Is the President...

telling you to leave the military?

I see.

What did General Choi say?

Of course...

He told me being a military officer is my destiny.

Your destiny...

Do you know this?

If you leave the military,

the world says we will become rivals.

From here to there...

is the center of the new city.

How much is the land worth?

It's a lot of money for us right now.

When this land becomes a big city,

it will become a goldmine.

So, how much?

You can't get involved with loan sharks.

Busan Construction's Jang Taek Sang...

is headed toward ruin because of loan sharks.

Chairman Son...

is making connections with the banks.

Chairman Son?

Yes.

He's really amazing.

Hey, hey, hey.

In Ae's coming.

Hi, In Ae.

What's with the atmosphere?

Like you got caught stealing.

You have a good nose.

Why don't you stop coming here when you're a star?

Don't blow hot air.

I'm going to finish the construction I started.

Thanks.

I have something to tell you, Master.

What is it? You look serious.

Is there a problem?

There is.

A big problem.

What's wrong with you?

I can't hide it.

Honestly, I...

...made some money.

Money?

A lot of money.

More than enough money for our house, store and the gym.

What? Money?

Your eyes are shining at the mention of money.

How much?

You couldn't earn that much even if you lived ten lives.

I shot a skincare commercial and got paid in cash.

If you find out how much, you'll fall over. Guess.

So, how much is it?

Well...

Forget the lease.

Enough to buy a house of our own in Seoul!

Yeah!

Pray that I don't get cocky.

So my good luck won't leave me.

You can get cocky.

Wow...

Forget water. Go buy cola.

Make sure it's cold.

Hurry.

Hyung didn't tell you where or why he was going on a business trip?

Is it a national secret or something?

That was pretty good for an idiot.

That's what powerful sidekicks do.

He thinks he's a big deal.

He always wanted to be the head instead of the tail.

He always took the main role in the church choir.

He always played Joseph, you were Mary. And me? I was a shepherd boy.

He made me play an adulterous woman sometimes. He played Jesus.

I even played the man who threw a stone at you.

Let's be supporting characters for the rest of our lives.

Let's see how high Han Kwang Hoon rises.

Kwang Chul.

Yeah?

There's a car following us.

What?

Watch out. Something bad happened earlier.

What happened?

I think I was too rash.

What?

It disappeared.

Did something happen?

I guess I should be more shrewd rather than jumping into it.

What is it?

You could never advance without the strength of the military government.

What I'm setting for you...

is not a mere spiderweb.

I'm going to become your safety net.

You probably toured schools with General Chun.

What's next?

Becoming General Chun's son-in-law?

Big Bear disappeared in Las Vegas.

It would be best to take separate planes home.

Be careful.

How can you drink wine like that?

So touching...

You're going to drink it all and pass out to keep your honor?

Don't worry.

I won't eat you up.

I said I won't eat you up!

How marvelous you are.

Your eyes, your jawline...

your shoulders, your chest.

They'll be mine someday.

Where are you going?

We're not on our honeymoon. I'm going to get a separate room.

That's a bad idea.

Stay here.

I won't have you ignore me.

Didn't you already expect that much?

You're right.

You're too rough.

I thought you expected as much.

You're right.

Keep your dignity.

For whom?

Seo In Ae?

Go to sleep.

You know the medal of honor

you gave my son...

Please...

keep it safe after I die.

When the Koreas are united,

please send it to my hometown.

That can't be.

You must live to see the Koreas united.

General Chun, there are rumors that you're leaving the military.

If you're not confident about unification of the Koreas,

don't leave the military.

The Butterfly's report requires a photo.

Make sure you take good pictures.

Alright.

Butterfly?

Where is this?

Were there houses like this in Seoul?

She's a star who lives in a trashy neighborhood.

If she knew who Tae Kyung was,

I guess she wanted to take the escalator straight up.

It's a shame to get rid of her so easily. Her dreams are so ambitious.

So fearless.

Where is Tae Kyung?

Your only son...

has no ambition or goals.

He takes after you so much.

With regard to women.

Mom.

Tae Kyung is an adult now.

Don't interfere.

Who knows how far he'll go taking after someone?

Tell your oppa to come down.

Oppa...

...didn't come home.

He should have arrived in the US by now.

Did you really force him to leave?

Mom.

If I left him alone...

he was about to raise a dirty scandal with a delinquent second-rate actress.

Who carried out your orders?

That's too much.

Don't meet Chairman Son anymore.

That old man's greed is never-ending.

He was god when you needed him.

Now you're talking like that?

Se Kyung is meeting his idiotic driver too often.

Mom, is your goal in life to judge people?

Is everyone around you a joke?

Get ready to study abroad.

You've finished preparations.

I'm sorry.

I'm skipping breakfast.

Who...

forced Tae Kyung to leave?

Director Park, who else?

How long will he be involved in our family matters?

He's the only one who will be loyal to the end.

Who could have imagined General Chun's arm extends all the way to the US?

If you won't go, I'll meet with the Kingmaker myself.

I think...

you need anti-anxiety medication.

Don't you worry about the future?

You must become Head of State!

The Head of State is decided by the heavens.

The heavens!

You blame the heavens when you lack confidence.

Was it also heavens doing for the current power in place?

It was the result of bloodshed.

So?

You might not want to hear it, but...

you becoming Prime Minister was due to such a result.

Walk elegantly.

Stand in front.

Dab it.

Cut! Good.

Wow, Seo In Ae you're a chameleon.

Thirty minute break!

Thirty minute break!

In Ae, everyone is abuzz about our skincare commercial just based on the newspaper article.

Drinks, ice cream, snacks and clothes.

What will happen when the commercial airs?

Hold on, I think someone I know is here.

Hello.

Hello, what brings you here?

Oppa called from New York.

He wanted me to give you this.

It's oppa's phone number.

You know you shouldn't do this.

Oppa is genuine. He wants me to set up a phone at your house.

He already knew your address.

We can't afford a phone yet.

Leave that up to me.

Good-bye.

Bye.

Who was that?

Who was that, In Ae?

I've never made an international call.

International call?

Never mind. Let's go.

I'm leaving first based on your father's order.

Coward.

Country bumpkin.

Start.

Why are you surprised?

Hey, you.

Aren't you an idiot if you can't fight when you're armed?

Do as you learned in Japan.

This is your country, isn't it?

It's easy.

What about the title?

Do you want me to get involved in such petty stuff?

Take care of the little things in your name.

I'll get involved in the big things.

Can I really do it?

Hey, what did you learn in Japan?

Year 1983, Fukuoka, Japan

Who are you?

Are you Korean?

I'm wrong.

Hiro Yoshi.

It wasn't just a rumor.

You really were hiding out at the construction site.

It wasn't a rumor.

Were you lonely without me?

I heard you changed your name to the immortal phoenix.

It's better than a has-been.

Stop the useless chatter and open the safe door.

I hear it's full of wages transferred from the bank for the laborers.

You're resorting to stealing?

I'll let you live...

if you give me the keys to the safe.

Are you kidding me?

Damn it!

Let's go.

What happened here?

I think he was attacked while guarding the safe alone.

Attacked?

Those who want to undermine the company found out about the wages intended for the laborers.

They conspired with the port yakuza to steal it.

You were as good as dead back then.

I was being chased by the yakuza.

I couldn't smuggle on a boat.

My last resort was surviving day-to-day.

You couldn't even talk for a month.

It was a miracle.

What miracle?

You survived because of your hard head.

Working for you and earning recognition...

...was a miracle.

Right.

Don't just toil away physically.

Use your hard head mentally.

A miracle never happens alone.

It's a combination of heaven's will and human determination.

You learned about construction on-site.

Take over...

...Busan Construction.

After making donations to the national defense, I'm returning to Japan this afternoon.

Already?

What do you mean already?

I've been here a long time.

Kwang Chul, keep this in mind.

Se Kyung's mother's hand stings.

Be careful.

Jang Taek Sang - In Chul's father

Don't even dream of getting a loan.

A loan for illegal construction?

Do you want to get me fired?

The loan sharks have their limit.

If I can't take out another loan,

I'll lose the land and hotel I'm building.

I'll go into bankruptcy.

It's illegal.

That's the issue.

The money that has gone into lobbying is rumored to be more than the construction.

Bankruptcy is not the problem.

It will be a big problem in your life as well.

Please save me.

Why would I die with you?

It's as expected.

Why does he want to continue with construction?

Stopping the construction is same as issuing his death announcement.

I'll meet the man who wants to swallow Seoul whole.

Hey, who the heck are you?

I'm disappointed.

Don't you remember Han Kap Soo's second son?

What?

Han Kap Soo's second son?

You died.

I did.

You died, didn't you?

The dead man has returned to save you.

Who said it was okay to take the city-owned land?

Do you have a list of lobbyists?

Of course there is.

If you cough that up, you won't have to issue your death announcement.

I'll lose the Busan shipping company as well.

Oh, yeah, I heard your hyung is assisting General Chun Tae Woong.

Can't he help me with my desperate situation?

Who is your opponent?

The mayor.

The mayor?

Yeah, the mayor.

Are you saying the mayor is denying telling you it was okay to take over city-owned land?

No, no.

The mayor never said that directly to me.

But you know how things go.

So, who told you then?

Should I get stabbed to death after telling you that?

Maybe if you let me meet your hyung...

Well...

Will you look into it?

We are brothers after all.

Yeah, that's true.

Former Busan Security Director...

Kim Jung Chul.

Kim Jung Chul, Kim Jung Chul...

You wouldn't know him.

Your father knew him well.

When your father passed away,

he was the Busan Security Director.

The Security Director?

He was the one...

who laid the foundation for connecting Busan Construction to Seoul.

He's the only lead I have.

And?

As far as I know, there's someone above him that only he knows.

And above that is the mayor.

It sounds unbelievable now.

That man...

Are you sure he was the Busan Security Chief

...when Father died?

I'm positive.

Please...

help me meet your hyung.

Would you like a newspaper?

Just a moment.

Anticipating Seo In Ae's first commercial to take the world by storm.

My-chell

It's refreshing!

Who is she?

Isn't it that girl?

It's Seo In Ae.

Turn it off.

Just leave it.

Director Im is skilled at shooting commercials, too.

It's ten years ahead of its time.

Skincare commercials are not geared toward men.

Advertisements are used to accelerate national and international sales.

I think this commercial was made for international export.

Do you want Tae Kyung to go crazy seeing this in the US?

This is my lifeline.

Lobbyist names, lobby figures, dates and locations. It's all there.

I think Kim Jung Chul met someone before meeting the mayor.

You're right, you have a keen eye.

Do you have a picture of Kim Jong Chul?

It would be better not to see.

If I meet your hyung, I was going to show him this.

It was taken long ago in Osaka.

Stop the car!

Stop it!

Who are you?

You!

Who are you?

Is this him?

He was a Japanese lackey who...

rose somehow to become the Busan Security Director.

Then the Busan US Cultural Center incident happened.

Where is he now?

According to his words, he works in the Seobinggo branch.

Right.

Seobinggo branch?

Focus and check the special lists thoroughly, alright?

Gate 2 needs more guards.

You would have just left if I hadn't called.

I'll come back often.

Right-hand.

Were you going to leave without saying anything?

Right-hand is staying behind.

What?

He'll be staying in my hotel long-term.

Kwang Chul will also be using this car.

Wow, you're treating him like a son.

Of course.

He's working in my stead in Korea.

I'll do it.

What?

I can do anything right-hand can do, Uncle.

I'm better than a driver.

I'm much more skilled.

Uncle.

Hurry back.

Even if you don't have a reason to come back.

Alright, I will.

Don't forget to take your blood pressure medication.

You're treating me like an old man.

You must exercise as soon as you wake.

Hey, I'm going to live to be 120 years old.

Kwang Chul.

Fight the good fight.

But not with Se Kyung.

Bye.

I'll call you when it's time to take your medicine.

You're like a guy in a cartoon.

You're about to cry.

You're the real ugly one.

What's up?

What is it?

I won't make fun of you, ugly.

Stop there!

Who are you guys?

You need to come with us.

Who are you guys?

Who are you?

Make him confess.

Or he'll die.

Keep yourself hidden.

Of course.

I feel strange.

That's how life works. Your feelings are not important.

But still...

Instead of working in the field,

I'd like to work in an office, Director.

Find me a regular position in Seobinggo.

Impatience is your disease.

You haven't taken care of your loose ends yet.

Where are you?

A pay phone. The surveillance is bad.

Good work.

I'll be waiting for good news.

Now, I'll repeat.

If you don't tell us what you reported to the Kingmaker in Washington,

you'll become fish food in Han River.

I told you I never went near Washington.

Whether I become fish food,

or your food, I don't care.

Do as you wish.

You tenacious bastard.

Beat him until he begs for his life.

What is this?

Stop them!

Who are you?

Are you okay?

How did you get here?

What happened?

Why are you here?

Answer me first.

Why did this happen to you?

Hyung, hyung.

H... Hyung!

The sun is setting, hurry!

Okay, let's go. Ready!

Ready, action!

For a woman...

maintenance is absolutely necessary.

Cut, good!

That's all for today!

Good job.

Good job, good job.

Director.

- Good job. - Good job.

You did well, Seo In Ae.

Thank you.

Just a moment. In Ae.

Master.

Kwang Hoon is badly hurt. He's hospitalized in Hangook Hospital.

Director, an emergency came up. I have to go. I'm sorry!

Seo In Ae.

Seo...

What happened?

Well, that is...

What happened?

He's badly hurt. Is he okay?

I told you not to tell her.

I brought her.

I brought In Ae after Kwang Chul called me.

I told you not to tell her!

Is that the first thing you say after I saved your life?

Who else should know but In Ae?

You shouldn't have told her if I said not to.

Don't get involved.

Everyone leave.

They should've busted his mouth.

Let's go.

Oppa, what happened to you?

How did you get this way?

You don't need to know.

I don't need to know?

Leave with the rest of them.

It won't be good to get involved in my affairs.

Ignore it.

What are your affairs?

Who did this to you?

Han Kwang Hoon!

Han Kwang Hoon!

Han Kwang Hoon!

Don't move.

Be careful and move him quickly.

Yes, sir.

I'm his family.

How can you move him without one word to his family?

Han Kwang Hoon is a military officer.

His family comes before the military.

His family has a right to know what happened to him.

This is an emergency!

Tell me, oppa.

Tell them you want to stay with family, oppa.

Move aside, In Ae!

Wait until I contact you.

Do as ordered!

Oppa.

Oppa!

What happened, Father?

How could something like this happen in the country?

Be quiet.

He nearly died!

How could they do this?

How could they batter a person like this?

Kwang Hoon, are you okay?

Where is she going...

Just trust me no matter what. Don't doubt me.

I trust him.

Don't trust him!

Do you hope I get betrayed by your hyung?

You're the one who's crazy, Mother!

Even an evil witch couldn't think of such things!

You bastard.

I'm worried you'll get in the way of all our lives!

You're worried I'll ruin your future?

Bring him here immediately!

I'm going to teach that girl a lesson.

Seo In Ae might get hurt.

Who's giving you orders?
