How are things

Things are good. We’re coming
up on six months now,

and I don’t know, it’s wild.

That’s literally like four
years in lesbian time.

Everyone in my life
knows that I am in fact

a "le dollar bean,"
but my grandparents.

I have not breached the
conversation with them of,

"Hey, I date women."

And I don’t want to have to
hide who I love or who I am.

If I’m being
completely honest,

I do not ever see myself telling
my grandparents I’m gay.

Where my grandparents grew up
in Iran, it’s just so different.

Like I don’t even know like

if they would understand
what being gay actually is.

with my mom multiple times,
and she’s like your grandparents

are from a different generation.

and tell them.

My mom broke the barrier
on her having

an interracial relationship
with my dad in the ’90s,

home a Black man

and, you know, had to break down
that, so she gets it.

But it’s also like my sisters,
for example,

like my sister has never had
to sit me down and say,

"Hey, I like boys,"
so why do I have to do that?

I’m super close
with my grandparents.

I love them to death,

but I feel like I’ve been
walking on eggshells,

and they’re eggshells that
I’ve placed down myself.

And in the event that
they don’t take it well,

then I’m losing time with them.

is like two polar opposite
things, kind of.

It’s so not accepted where
my parents are from in Iran,

my parents are super chill

and like relaxed and

I’m able to have like an open
conversation about being gay,

and I’m just really lucky
and blessed to have parents

from that background that

because over there,

I think that people forget
how spoiled we are
